I had the pleasure of working with Darryl and Don after the spark arrestor and chase pipe blew up off the chimney and slammed into the ground in the back yard in the wee hours - scared the bejesus out of my daughter and the neighbors! For anyone who lives in or is familiar with the winds here in the High Desert be wary - this could happen to you! Apparently it was just a matter of time that it happened since it had never been properly fastened down when it was installed - so maybe those of you with fireplaces might want to consider having your system checked. Darryl and Don came out to check out the situation to see what needed to be done and were able to fix the issue without having to do a lot of extra work; like tearing out the drywall or removing the insert and replacing the whole thing. Once the part was obtained, Darryl, Don and a young man/assistant had it all fixed in about an hour; I think the prep took longer than the actual repair; checking things out, getting measurements and part numbers, finding the chase pipe and other parts needed. Update 10/21/17 today he arrived 8 min early! My kind of on time !!!! I appreciate that he is try to his word and values my time as much as his own! Again I am very impressed he spent a while trying to get the wood lighter in the front fire place but the pipe was installed at an angle so it was not possible - he showed me and explained other ways to use the fire place an show to repair it if and when we were ready he then put the lighter in the second fireplace without issue and only was going to charge me for the one he could install! He took time to come educate me the other day then spent a solid 45 min at the house mostly trying to get the first installed and was still only going to charge me for what he completed ! This man is seriously amazing with his business and professionalism he is honest and upfront and does not try to take advantage ! I really appreciate him and as I said before he will be our fireplace guy from this point in and he should also be yours ! Original encounter : From 10/19/17 I have been calling all over to get someone to come tell us how to use the fire places safely and see what needs done and it was a nightmare. Every single place I called wanted to come clean and inspect our chimney and such from 175 for each to 100 an hour .... I just need to know how to use it !!! I finally called Darryl at Chimney Chokers and he was AMAZING ! He said he would be over after lunch in about an hour and when I asked how much he seemed surprised he said free and true to his word he came and told me all I need to know and as I asked others we need a log lighter installed and he will do it Saturday! We have lived in our home for over 15 years and thought that we needed to have our chimney cleaned. I called Darryl and he called me back first thing the next morning. Darryl arrived and looked at our chimney. He stated that our chimney did not need to be cleaned at all. He did note that we had the wrong type of set up in the fireplace and he could change it if we wanted to make the change. He stated that if we were getting a good fire that it was not necessary for us to change it. There was no charge for him to come out. Bought an older house last year and these guys come out to clean the chimney. Just had them out this year to prep for winter. They said we still had a real clean chimney. They gave us a calendar and some pomegranate jelly and left, no charge. The company we used at our old house would have needlessly cleaned our chimney and charged us. I would highly recommend this company. Gary was friendly, knowledgeable, professional and knows his business. I called several companies and he was the only one who responded to me the same day. His communication was excellent. He walked me through everything that he was doing and showed me exactly what needed to be done without making feel stupid. I thought I was going to have a huge expense and Gary dug around in the ashes and found that a peace of my flue had simply fallen off and explained that with a heat shield I could extend the life of my aging fireplace for many years insted of having everything replaced. He could have easily charged me more and I wouldn't have know better. It's was great to have a honest jovial professional not take advantage of me and save me a lot of money. Best rate in town! I called around but somehow missed this number and called on a whim. Turned out to run $50 less for a sweep than the other local companies. Most places were booked for weeks but Chimney Chokers came out the next day (would have been the same day but I wasn't available) Informed me of some issues that need attention but didn't insist I needed to get everything done that day and let me know how to take care of my fireplace. I had been going through a nightmare with Sears about my dryer repeatedly failing. They kept blaming it on my vents needing cleaning (although I had them cleaned before by another company and the dryer failed AGAIN right after). I called this company and they came out the same day and even offered to come to my house when Sears was there the following day to show them that there is no problem with the vents. I had an emergency situation with my dryer. I went down the list of top reviews on Yelp, searching for a company to clean my vent. What jumped out at me was a previous review which said Chimney Chokers provided a same day response. Sure enough, the owner, Darryl, answered my call... while in the field. It was already after lunch time, but he promised he'd get to me the same day. He and Don were fast, efficient and knowledgeable. Darryl took the time to explain to me the difference between the vent issues and the dryer machine issues (which were left unaddressed by the appliance tech who came out earlier the same day). Aside from the great service, Darryl is a very personable guy, who cares deeply about his business, his customers and his family (obviously, we had an in-depth conversation). What's more, his extensive background lends him to being a treasure chest of information and experience in a number of other maintenance areas.
