Tech who came out was great, once he looked at the unit and ran some tests, he didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. He gave me worst case scenario based on the issue I was having. He wasn't able to check the AC current as his clamp meter was broken. Hr did explain what I should do about every 3 months to keep the unit running smoothly. Now, this is why 3 stars. The tech said the office would call me on Monday to pay for the service call. Monday rolled around, no call, Tue, no call, Wed, Thu, Fri, no call so I figured they'd just send me the bill. 2 weeks later, I get 3 messages stating I have a past due invoice. Really? It's not even 30 days and they never called to receive payment. Finally, a paper bill arrives, after almost 4 weeks. And, the number they called was NOT the number I gave the Tech to have the office call to receive payment, yes I have a house phone, but rarely use it and rarely see that there are messages. My AC unit went out and had to call for an AC Technician and my regular AC Technician by the name Cody (Cody is Awesome) was off but he referred me to just contact his office and they would take care of me. The AC Technician - showed up at the time i need them most as my AC unit is not cooling and it has been very hot this week so i am in urgent need of getting it fix. After around 10 minutes, he was able to diagnosed the problem being the burn out capacitors + a compressor voltage regulator and had the part with him on his truck. In addition, he was able to get it fix in 30 minutes and they return the next day to perform a full maintenance on the unit. I appreciate the professional workmanship. Nicely done. Many things to like about DS. I had called around to get several quotes. The receptionist pointed out up front that "we won't be the cheapest quote." They weren't. But they were the most thorough and professional. We had a complex series of problems that needed to be solved before our two package units could be installed. We had a broken truss, roofing issues, and solar panels to be moved. Our salesman, Devon, was attentive but not pushy as our family was coordinating all of the other contractors to fix the underlying structural issues necessary for the install. More importantly, he was prompt and available even after the units were installed. Always cheerful and professional. At all times, communication was timely and courteous. Our install was during the first few weeks of quarantine. Workers showed up on time...in booties and masks. When I was concerned about the initial performance of one unit, they immediately sent out a team to troubleshoot and make sure everything performed as intended. I appreciated their attention to detail, such as making sure a previous roof leak around my old unit was thoroughly sealed after the new unit went in. Considering the scope of the project, they were minimally disruptive while my spouse and I were teleworking. They made sure that all of my registration and warranty information was in on time. They were accommodating to my schedule and showed up on a Saturday to check out my air conditioning system and checked everything out, took pictures and showed me and took the time to explain what the readings meant. D&S was called because my wife "heard something funny" coming from one of the two A/C units for our home in the Mojave desert. D&S quickly determined one unit was over 20 years old and the other was 30. The younger of the two was installed in the ceiling and was beginning to leak condensate above out 20+ ft tall entryway. Finally after seeing cracks on our furnace burners where CO was entering the system and a myriad of other problems, we decided on replacement. The options were pretty straightforward, a house brand, Trane, and a Lennox system, one complete system for upstairs and one complete system for downstairs. You can tell that this is getting expensive quick... We then asked that the system be very quiet because the outdoor condenser is just outside the window where our TV watching area is. With this in the equation, D&S proposed a Daikin VRV heatpump solution. Typically you would think of this product as a mini split System, but the outside unit comes in up to 5 tons for a residential application. That was more than enough cooling power to replace both of my outdoor units. I believe it could also power up to nine individual smaller inside units if you were doing new construction and wanted to condition the air only in the room in which you were standing. Now with one single outdoor unit we are able to power both indoor fan coils evaporators. The outdoor unit is nearly completely silent, and the two indoor units are inaudible. The biggest change I noticed with this new system was the velocity of the air coming out of the vents. It is easily double or triple the speed of the air that we previously had on our old air conditioner/furnace set up. Of note, since the old system was 30 years old and owned by cat people, we did a full duct replacement upstairs, and a clean/disinfect/seal on the downstairs ductwork. This reduced leaking air by over 90%, gaining more efficiency. We also added an iWave air purifier. As soon as this was switched on, dust started flying out in clumps, and once we did a thorough dusting, we are down to only dusting every 3 weeks, living in the dusty dusty desert. That was a huge game changer! One thing I was concerned about was switching to a heat pump in the desert because we have such temperature extremes. This unit needs to operate from 20°F all the way up to 120°F. So far it's been tested down to 40° and still produces warm air. The design of the system says that it should be able to produce warm air down to 0° without auxiliary heat. I will come post an update after a few temperature extremes have passed. The crew of installers were very professional, all wearing masks and always laying down drop cloths and covering any items which may get dusty from going in and out of the attic. The initial sales engineer was very professional spent a lot of time doing a full load calculation on the home, and then helped us work through many different options to realize that our best bet was to convert to the Daikin VRV system, a huge gain in efficiency and only a $4000 price difference. It draws very little power, in fact I believe my solar panels can run the entire unit. My only complaint is that I was not able to continue using my nest thermostats. The system came with a thermostat which is connected to a smart phone app, but it is nowhere near the quality of the nest app. Sadly the advanced Daikin system requires a proprietary two wire digital Interface between the thermostats and the air conditioner. The only other the thing worth noting is that because there is one single outside unit, both the upstairs and downstairs are both on heat or both on cool. There is no possible way to heat the downstairs and cool the upstairs at the same time. But if low power consumption, quiet, and quality are what you are looking for, then a Daikin system from D&S is what you need! read more

Had a new hvac unit installed in December our unit was fried. They had a new installed within a couple days and followed covid safety. They were super professional and fast. And very polite. Just a couple days ago we found out we needed all new ducting. Alex Cerros and his crew came out the next day and did the overhaul in a few hours. Got straight to work and very polite. They protected our floors and cleaned up after themselves. But best of all the work was beautiful! Feels like a new house new vents and they cleaned up after us too , no more dirt outside our icky old vents they got rid of those. To start with the good...they came out within one day during a heat wave and they did get the unit running (short term fix). However, it was at my rental property and they didn't call to get approval for the repair. They charged $150 to replace a belt, $170 for a water pump, and $69 for the service call. They finally called 3 days later to discuss the charges that I thought were too much. I was told someone would call me back but they never did. I was emailed the receipt with a note from the technician that the bottom of the unit was rusted and needed to be replaced! For $390 I could have had a whole new swamp cooler! I have been a client of DS Heating and Air Conditioning for 15 years and I have always received excellent service. Last December I had to replace my HVAC system. The installation crew (Sean, Juan and Robert) were knowledgeable, professional and efficient. In spite of having to crawl into the extremely narrow space under my house to remove the old ducts and equipment, they did an outstanding job! This past week, Hermes came to my house for the maintenance of my new system. He arrived on time and observed safety protocols. He did a through cleaning and inspection of my system. Prior to the appointment, I had decided to have a surge protector installed in the event of another power failure during heat waves in the summer. Hermes explained the cost and benefit of surge protectors and I felt confident in making the decision to add them to my system. I would not recommend this place. I asked for an estimate and had a schedule date for it. The day of the estimate the owner called to ask what was wrong to maybe instead of an estimate they can have someone come out. I told him what was wrong and he said it sounded more like it just needed to be cleaned so he didn't want to waste anyone's time on having someone come looking at it when it just sounds like the cleaning needed to be done. I don't know anything about air conditioners so I said okay. The guy comes out and all he does is put a new filter in and take some dirt off the unit and I get charged $175 for just that. Make matters worse is it did nothing and I still had to have the guy that I originally asked for to do an estimate come out. Turns out I need a whole new hvac system that was going to cost me about $18,000. I don't trust this company they are just out for the money bc I had another company come look at it and I did get a whole new hvac system, ducting replaced, and insulation done but it only cost my $11,000 not $18,000 when all they were going to do was put in a new hvac system. I was told I could go to home depot and buy the part to replace a belt on the unit...which was not even the issue. Techs refused to do any actual work. My family suffered for weeks in 100 degree and higher temps until I could afford to hire someone else. Hired and paid a handy man off yelp under Blue shirt handyman who had my cooler repaired and working with in an hour. Friday I spoke with Amanda in regards to a quote. I advised her I had just purchased a new ductless mini split AC unit and needed it installed in my garage. Amanda was great booked an appt for today. I took the day off from work cause they insisted I be here and not my mom who could've shown them what I needed and where. Any who, Two people showed up today. Sat outside my house for about 10 minutes, no phone call or door bell ring. Instead they sat in their truck and once my mom walked outside they decided to talk to her from their car asking for me by the wrong name, btw. So I go, call them in and proceed to ask me the reason for my call I walk them to the garage and explain same thing I told Amanda and they said "oh, we don't install previously purchased AC units". Are you serious?! As I walk them out she asks "well, where did you purchase it?" What the hell does it matter, if you're not gonna install it?! Waste of time. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. I use them last year in July and I was charged $1100, this year the unit did not work. A technician by the name of Robert came out to check the unit, he lied to my tenant and said that I did not approve the repair and the he called me and I did not answer. I finally spoke with him and he said the the repair would be $3500. They are a true rip off. I would not use them. The supervisor is a joke as well, the do not stand behind there repairs. They again use cheap parts from another country. I called another company and the repair was done way less than they quote and I have a warranty. Again, I will never use this company again. Expensive!!!! They charged me almost $600 to clean a dirty squirrel cage blower( fan) for evaporator. I will not use again except in case emergency . And this was emergency with high temps topping 100. Back was agaisnt the wall. Advise suffer a Little and Save Lot! Company said they spent 3 hrs cleaning a evap fan due to lack of maintenance. Our a/c went out last Sunday. My husband called DS Heating and Air late Monday afternoon. By Tuesday Kenneth (a/c technician) came to the house to check it out. Had Gabriel as our service tech today for the first time. 2 AC units and then we surprised him by having a 12,500 CFM commercial swamp cooler at our home... He did a masterful job, and was so clean working, putting booties over his workboots in the house... Very impressed all the way around! This was my first time using DS Air but I look forward to them being our long-term air conditioning solution. UPDATED REVIEW- today had Anthony from DS come to fix an unrelated issue and have to say, he was as excellent as Gabriel the other day. And their office staff very professional as well. Issue: master bed/bath stay 15-20 degrees colder in the winter and hotter in the (desert!) summer than the rest of the house, and high electric & gas bills, despite keeping the house less than comfortable & having solar. We've had 2 HVAC guys sent to our home through the home warranty company who shall not be named, since we bought it about 2 years ago. Both went into the same access panel to the attic, came down, looked around the house and declared that our filters were dirty, causing little to no airflow to the master bed/bath. One went so far as to say that the setup was too far from the master to properly heat/cool the air going into that room, and there was nothing that could be done, other than reconfiguring the HVAC system. We gave up. Scott from DS was sent to us from another contractor who was fixing the tub. He couldn't believe how cold it was in the bathroom. Scott gave us a courtesy inspection, complete with thermal imaging that showed where issues were...and, boy were there issues!! Oh, but that was after he used the same access as the other 2 "HVAC professionals" sent by American Hone Warranty (oops, it slipped out). He couldn't find the HVAC system up there...because it was sealed off from the other side of the attic, so he used the other access panel to get there. Interesting that the other two never asked (we didn't realize it didn't go through from one side of the attic to the other, having never been up there) where the furnace was when they went up. Anyway, DS was very thorough. Scott explained things very well, gave me 4 different levels of repair that we could do to fix the problems, and was honest about what each would and wouldn't do, as well as offering financing on the expenses. My vents finally blow out hot air in the master, and I'm no longer heating and cooling the attic. Pretty sure my elec & gas bills will also reflect a happy change. I highly recommend this company. They are fast, reliable, trustworthy and professional. They also try to work within your needs and budget as much as they are able. I'll never use anyone else for my HVAC needs. read more

We called several other companies to correct the issue, without success and they were not able to diagnose the problem. A DS technician came our to troubleshoot my AC unit and told me the pan was leaking and that I needed a complete new system. DS quoted me $12,000 for a new system. I had another technician come out and he found the real problem and fixed it for $325 and quoted me $5,000 for a new system. I don't think DS did a very thorough job trying to find the problem nor did they offer me any reasonable alternatives to purchasing a new system for a very high price. They were very nice and professional but not very knowledgeable or cost effective. read more

Fast, reliable, professional service with amazing response times. Our families air conditioner started acting up on a Sunday night. After a day of it blowing warm air and watching the temperature climb, I picked DS on a whim out of a Google search. I called them at 11am Monday morning to schedule an appointment for some time later in the week, but was told there service man could be there at 3pm the same day. He was on time and did an inspection of our system. Unfortunately we were told we would need to replace it. His supervisor Devon came out on Tuesday to give us some options on replacement and an estimate. I also told him that before this problem my upstairs would be 8 to 10 degrees hotter than the downstairs. It turns out a lot of the duct work in the attic was leaking. Devon recommended replacing the duct work and furnace along with the a/c. That replacing everything would balance out the air throughout the house. Devon was able to get all the parts and start work on Thursday. By 4pm Thursday everything was installed and the whole house was cool. With only 1 degree difference between the upstairs and downstairs. With in three and half days of when I called them, all the HVAC was working better than it ever has. DS heating and air are absolute professionals in there field. read more

They wanted to charge me $500.00 just to fix the pump and belt on my swamp cooler. It's at most an hour's work and and the parts are not more than one hundred bucks for both pump and belt. That's a rip-off. Instead I had a handyman do it for $160.00. I was out $125.00 simply to have them come and look at the cooler so I was none too pleased. $125.00 just to have them tell me what I already knew. My AC unit stopped pushing out cold air. DS came out and said I needed a new coil for the outside unit. They did a pressure test and found a leak. They ordered the new coil and told me they'd be back on a Thursday. I got a phone call during the week from their office to offer me a sooner date ( the Saturday b4 my original appointment). I also wanna point out that I dont live in the AV and they still came out. So today Gabriel came out to replace the coil. He called b4 to give me a heads up on his eta, which helped me arrange a parking spot for him because theres no parking in ELA. He took apart the unit, cleaned the whole thing and put it all back together. Ran all the tests with me present and explained everything he was doing as he worked. Super cool guy, he knew what he was doing and now we have cold air just in time for summer. Eh...we bought a house and got and installed a full air conditioning system. My wife and I have thus far been satisfied with the system - its really quiet. We did pay an arm and a leg, but any central air system of modern quality will be. Installing the system was a real pain in the butt. The sales guy said initially 2 days. However, this turned into 4 days, and considering my wife works from home, it was frustrating for her. Also, they weren't up front about possible incidental costs before we agreed to the contract, and there just seemed to be a lot of miscommunications during the process. We had to hire a contractor to drywall over the new exposed ducts, which was never suggested until the walkthrough. The sales guy and the chief installer seemed totally out of sync. They did provide us a credit for our trouble. They also agreed to pay an electrician to come out to re-install a light they knocked out. I think I got a good system, and in the long run, I'm pretty confident I'll be happy with the A/C itself. But the cost was a little high, and, as stated above, the process was a bit rough. I'd make sure to ask the right questions about incidental costs and have them provide a real timeframe around installation with the chief installer BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMITMENT to use the vendor. Again, I'm pretty confident you'll get a good system, but ask good questions to avoid a headache. read more

Received a call through Lowe's and made an appt for Oct 30th. They called to change appt to Oct 31st in the morning Scott came-the S in the company job title. I asked for a quote to replace, repair and for annnual Maintenance. The man SHOOK MY HAND in agreement He told me I'd get the estimates by my email. Facts: I NEVER received any quotes, even after calling them and inquiring-then Scott called and said the credit "Dept" was preparing it. Now it's 11/7 still nothing. They don't want competitive bids and seem to be looking For someone stupid enough that will hand over the dough. Will call Lowe's to complain. He never went up to attic to look at anything. I dont recommend them. They shake your hand give their word then lie. 11/9/17-good News for Yelp users-3 hours after I posted the review above, I got a call from Scott. They read this posted review. In short h sat first asked me if I had received the estimate from somebody at Lowe's then Read back my email address. This after saying he hand the written it down correctly. HOGWASH. I had given the office my email address already before. He had made a comment about me saying I wanted to wait and talk to my wife when she got back from a trip. So that tells me they dismissed me when I didn't say yes right away. They emailed the estimate and, no lie, over 12,000.00-highest of my bids. And for not even inspecting the attic.
