I have now used this company twice. The first time was in 2016. Right after my first son was born. We had moved into the house in 2012 and neither my husband or myself though anything of a little smoke coming out of the fire place. Eventually it started to blacken the front of our brick so I find this guy off of yelp. He's fantastic! Not only does he dress like he come from merry Poppins, lol, but he is super nice and arrives on time. The first time I had him here I explained I was on maternity leave and that I had a not so 2 month new born. He assured me he would not make a mess and that the sound of the vaccum might put my little guys to sleep. Both were true. I had no mess and an amazing fire after. My baby slept the entire time to the vaccum sucking out all the junk from my fireplace and chimney. When it started happening again in January, we found the fridge magnet he list for us in 2016. It doubles as a letter opener... We called him again in late Jan and he was fully booked, but he was able to show up the last week of Feb. This time he had an apprentice. Both were super courteous and cleaned up after. Now we are having the best fires again and no smoke smell in the house. As always A+++ service. What a disappointment!! After using him for several years and sending him a fair amount of business - even set up 4 clients he could do in our neighborhood the same day he cleaned our chimney. The chimney cap he 'inspected' and reinstalled was mangled and resulted in our home being filled with smoke. When we called him back, he looked at it and said it needed replacing. Why did he reinstall it knowing it was unsafe? He had no answer except that he would fix it. The next week he showed up with the wrong size part and thought that was funny. Today when we called him to check on when it would be installed he HUNG UP on my husband TWICE!! Rude, unprofessional, and a total jerk. We use our fireplace to heat our house and have been without it for two weeks. He has refused to talk to us. Maybe it's time to retire!! read more

Charlie is an awesome guy. He came out to my house about 2 years ago to clean out a dryer vent that was giving us trouble. He pulled out a ball of wet dryer lint that had completely clogged the vent. While at our house, I inquired about getting our chimney swept. Charlie said he had time and took care of it after he cleaned our dryer vent. He even offered a discount for the multiple services. On Christmas Eve, this year, I called The Chimney Sweep to see about a gift certificate to have my parents chimney swept. Charlie took my payment over the phone and said he would send me a gift certificate by Friday, December 27, which was no issue for me. Charlie went above and beyond and sent me the gift certificate on December 25th, Christmas Day! I've read some of the other reviews and am surprised, but I will say my interactions with Charlie and The Chimney Sweep have been nothing but positive. read more

On the recommendation of a friend, I called The Chimney Sweep. They were great. Kept in communication as far as their appointment (they came early!), were courteous, and comfortable to have in my home. I was surprised at how clean and quick they were, while still being very thorough. In nearly four years in my home I never saw my fireplace as clean as they left it. They even showed me how to safely use the gas feature of my fireplace which we had never messed with before. March 2018 Update: A few weeks before moving into our new home late last year, my spouse and I hired "The Chimney Sweep" to install a flue on our fireplace, which did not have one in place. The first time we went to use our fireplace, unfortunately, it stuck closed. This created quite a scare as it did not take long before the smoke alarms began going off and my asthma kicked in. It was only about 40 degrees out, yet it was necessary to open all doors/windows to air out the house. Afterward, it took about four days of running HEPA air purifiers in every room to remove the smoke odor. All of this happened very quickly -- within minutes of starting a fire for the first time in our fireplace. Charles returned to our home about a week later to investigate the cause. The flue, it turns out, was broken in the closed position and apparently beyond repair. It was the first time, Charles said, that he had had an install like this go bad. By then, we had calmed down from the initial scare and were hopeful that it could be replaced so that we could make a first (successful) use of our fireplace in our new home this winter. Charles indicated that it would be about a week to order a replacement. (We reported prior to his return that it appeared to be broken but for whatever reason he did not arrive prepared to replace it were necessary.) Nearly three weeks passed without indication when we might expect a return visit to install a replacement flue. After a number of phone messages, I finally made contact. I expressed a concern that while it may indeed be possible to go on using our fireplace without the flue in place, our concern is also for the impact on our utility costs given that our home depends on electric heating and cooling. (Not to mention, we live in a mountain area that can get snow!) Without a flue in place, no doubt we stood to lose heat through our chimney (which could impact our utility costs for the worse). Charles, nonetheless, decided to cancel his follow up visit -- he provided *no explanation* for why he went sour on us when through no fault of his or our own the flue failed! -- and offered, instead, to refund our money. It took some more phone tag, but he made good on his promise about 2.5 weeks later. Unfortunately, my spouse and I remain without a flue, which is problematic because wind has begun to howl down the chimney during the recent (late) winter storms. I stand by my original review that Charles "The Chimney Sweep" made a good first impression. And he did come through for the promised refund. I only wish things had turned out better, especially since I had taken my own time last summer to immediately post here on Yelp what was originally a five-star review. I am rating "The Chimney Sweep" three stars, overall, because the owner had the decency to refund our money. My spouse and I would have much preferred, however, a timely fix to our smokey predicament. read more

Do not spend your hard earned money with Charles Baltimore at "The Chimney Sweep Co". We recently decided to install a pellet stove and called him on a referral from Lees Bees. We initially called Mr. Baltimore in January for an estimate on the job and informed him that we already had a stove picked out. Mr. Baltimore came to our house to see the job and take measurements. We agreed on a price and set an installation date for two weeks away. Due to the timeframe we had to adjust our schedules to get everything ready on our end. We told Mr. Baltimore that we would remove our existing gas insert and wire a 110V receptacle to accept the new insert. As we're anticipating our new stove, and no longer have our old one, as we rushed to remove it and prepare for the new one, Mr. Baltimore calls several days before the scheduled install date and informs us that the stove we choose was back ordered until May, four months out with no stove in the middle of winter. So May arrives and Mr. Baltimore shows up with the stove. It's a good thing my husband was home as he had to help with the installation the entire time. My husband had to provide a ramp to get the stove into the house, and miscellaneous tools and hardware as Mr. Baltimore was unprepared. As the stove is being set into place we notice that about eleven inches of the stove frame and front adjusting bolts are hanging out unsupported. When we question Mr. Baltimore about this he says "oh that's okay, it's not a problem". When we get more specific with our concern and inquire about how the stove will be properly secured and leveled, he becomes quiet and sullen. After waiting several minutes for an answer from Mr. Baltimore, he starts saying, "I guess I didn't measure for that" and "Maybe my father in law can build a stand or something", his solution was to retrieve fire blocks from his truck and spray paint them black and use them as a stand! As he continued to work on the stove my husband commented on the cold weather and stated that it would be a good day to test the stove, Mr. Baltimore immediately commented, "Oh, you have pellets?", my husband replied "No, I assumed you would at least bring enough too run the stove as a test". Mr. Baltimore replied "Well pellets are hard to get this time of the year." Mr. Baltimore called his wife and had her deliver two bags of pellets, not without plenty of colorful language coming from the other side of the phone for all to hear. After finishing this installation Mr. Baltimore demonstrated opening the hopper door, which was difficult to open and close, and the on/off button. He offered nothing else and said that we needed to read the manual to figure it all out. We questioned him about the door and he said you just kinda have to lift it to get it to close. Mr. Baltimore demonstrated that the stove worked, then presented us with the invoice. After looking at the invoice which was what we originally agreed upon, we inquired about the mounting issue and if he would re-consider the amount due to additional work that would be figured to fix the issue. He became noticeably agitated and reluctantly lowered the bill by $200.00. We paid him the balance and he left saying that if we need anything to call him. Later the night we tried to turn the stove on only to get an error message on the control panel. The next day after several hours of work, the hopper door slider had to be fixed and a sensor on the door had to be re-installed due to being knocked off because of the broken slider. Remember, this is why Mr. Baltimore said you just have to lift the door a little to close it! Later that morning we call Mr. Baltimore to inquire about the support for the stove and to inform him of the broken parts and issue with the sensor. During our phone conversation Mr. Baltimore continually asked questions regarding the broken slider that I was trying to explain to him. I got frustrated with his demeanor and asked if he was listening to anything that I was saying, his reply to this was a complete tirade of obscenities and name calling and an ultimate hang-up! Mr. Baltimore abandoned the job and left us with a partially mounted stove. He did not install the thermostat that came with the stove and he dropped his ladder on our roof breaking several tiles. read more

Charlie was right on time and very pleasant! He repaired some cracks in the fire box and caulked the gas line for no extra charge. He cleaned the dryer vent and was able to seal it better than it had been to prevent lint from spewing out into the laundry room (our dryer vent was really dirty, oops!). I highly recommend The Chimney Sweep. I have a rental house in Lancaster with a fireplace that I thought might not be properly venting. When I bought the house a couple of years ago, there was soot on the bricks. I called several chimney sweep services and talked to them, asking what they recommended. Most were hot and ready to have me pay for them to come out and take a look. But Charlie took the time to talk it over with me on the phone, told me several issues it might be, and recommended he take a look. I worked out a time and date when he would be int he area of my rental, so it would not be out of his way. He said he would stop by and take a look at for a free appraisal, no cost to take a look and see what the issue was. That alone I thought was extremely professional, the sign of a good business person who is in it for the long haul, to get and keep clients. When he came out, he called to say that actually there was no problem. He suggested that I should instruct the tenants to build the fires closer to the back of the fireplace to avoid potential issues, but nothing was wrong and everything was venting properly. He also told advised me on another issue. The thing is, he could EASILY have lied to me and sold me a service I did not need. If you are looking for an honest person, I think you've found the right place. I'm grateful and impressed. I will definitely call back when and if I do need work done. Charlie is an excellent sweep and pellet stove tech. He came to my home and cleaned up the mess left by another sweep(?) that recently bought another local, long-standing franchise. Charlie checked and cleaned the chimney, the flashing, pulled the pellet insert out, throughly cleaned everything, checked for proper flow, ignition and left everything neat as a pin. He was well worth his fee and in my opinion, the ONLY sweep to call in the Antelope Valley. Thanks a million! read more

I just read the review from DI A. and was shocked. This doesn't sound anything like the same Charlie that came to my home last December. Charlie and his worker could not have been more professional and informative. I didn't mention in my previous review that part of the wall inside my fireplace, that was already cracked when he started working, cracked more and he totally insisted on replacing it at no cost! This included going to get the replacement and installing it immediately. Charlie is great. If you have a chimney or fireplace then he is your guy! Honest and Trustworthy, professional work. He repaired a leak in our Chimney that was flooding our Fireplace and did it super quick and on time. He performed a full inspection inside our old chimney and found an issue that would make it unsafe to burn wood,so we are glad he found the issue before something dangerous would happen in the future. Since the chimney/fireplace system is out of date the issue could not be repaired without a full overhaul of the chimney- but Charlie didn't even charge us for the inspection since the issue would not be able to be repaired! Super honest and friendly guy ! His rate for fixing our leak was great and I was impressed by his work, he took photos of the issue up on the roof to show me before he started the repair. He also helped me to learn more about how my fireplace and chimney work. We will be converting the wood fireplace to a gas insert at some point in the future, and when we do, Charlie will be the guy we call to do the installation. I was scared to have anyone looking at our chimney since I've heard of a lot of disreputable companies charging for things that don't really need to be done. I was relieved when Charlie showed up, instantly I could tell he was a friendly and honest guy. He didn't try to sell us any unnecessary services and was super honest about the issues we had (which he could have charged us a bunch of money to haphazardly repair, but he didn't) Thank you Charlie. read more

WHISPER'S HERO'S Whisper is a beautiful Russian Blue boy kitty that was rescued from the streets as a kitten by Forgotten Angels Cat Rescue and adopted to a wonderful family back in 2011. This past week we received a call from the Dad, Guy Painter, letting us know that Whisper was missing after a door was mistakenly left open during a family move. We rallied the volunteers and went into search mode. The task was daunting with the boxes, clothes and all things moving but we were determined to find him, IF he was still in the house. The hope was that because of all the commotion that he would be hunkered down somewhere waiting to be found. Well, about an hour into the search, one of the volunteers noticed a tail INSIDE the Pellet stove insert (inside the fireplace)!!!! The Volunteer was going to try to scruff Whisper and simply pull him out..... That did not set well with Whisper at all. When he scrambled for safe refuge (crawling into a tight little spacing within the sheet metal barrier) things seemed to get much darker for little Whisper (literally). He was now trapped behind a sealed double walled sheet metal enclosed fireplace insert. The new plan.........Have his Dad sit there with him all night and try to coax him out with food and a comforting voice. Once again, Whisper had other ideas. As morning came, and now without food or water for 6 days, a new plan was put into action. After meeting with Guy, Whispers Dad, it was decided that we needed to have a professional come and move the insert out so that we could get to him. Later that morning an Angel arrived by the name of Charles Baltimore, a technician for The Chimney Sweep, Co. in Lancaster. Charlie would soon begin on what seemed impossible, but being a cat lover himself, he knew what had to be done. Once the stove was removed we discovered that there was a double metal box encasing the stove and Whisper. Charlie mentioned he would need to use a sawsall to rip through the metal. Obviously that wasn't an option with Whisper somewhere in the middle. While the rescue volunteers discussed options and how to get a camera back there to take video and/or pictures, Charlie mentioned he had a camera and monitor in his truck.......AWESOME!!!!! Once everything was set up, we could see exactly where Whisper was. What a great sight to see. We all collectively decided that the sawsall was still not safe enough, so now what? Jerry from Forgotten Angels Cat Rescue suggested that we use metal cutters to cut through the metal, piece by piece. Thankfully, as an animal lover himself, Charlie was on board for whatever we suggested. Over the next 3 hours the two of them cut through and bent back the metal plates trying to free Whisper. Once the dust settled, they peered up through a very tight space at the top of the steel enclosure and saw a wonderful sight. Two little eyes staring back at him with a look of total anxiety and helplessness. The good news was that throughout the whole process, Whisper wasn't moving! He was just too afraid of that horrible noise, and could see daylight, and the possibility of being rescued. As the sheet metal plates now gave way to just enough space to reach in and grab Whisper, the rescue Volunteers knew there would be only one shot at grabbing Whisper by the scruff, facing him the right direction, and pulling him out to without anybody getting cut on the sharp metal shards. As Whisper was pulled out of the hole the entire room erupted into what can only be described as pure, and honest to God heartfelt tears of relief. No one dare shout out, or make a loud noise. Not until Whisper was safe in a pet carrier. Whispers dad Guy, quickly rushed him to the local Vet for a much needed checkup, and rehydration. The report later that day was that Whisper would be just fine, and just needed some R & R and to be with his family. If it wasn't for the efforts of Charlie at The Chimney Sweet, Whisper would not be here today and back safely with his family. read more
