Korean Fried Chicken is the best, and has been something that I have eaten a ton of this year! It's so easy to take out and take home for a meal or snack, and awesome to pair with a beer. I was excited to come into Chimcking not only for the chicken, but also for the cheese ddukbokki! Sadly, they were out of ddukbokki AND the spicy choices for wings which was a major bummer. I ended up getting the meal for $8.99 which came with the boneless soy garlic chicken, a side salad, and white rice. They have 4 different meals to choose from that are great, as well as options like the Wing Series, Whole Series, Salad, Pizza, and Ddukbokki. The side salad was a bit lack luster since it was just iceberg lettuce with a side of thick ranch like dressing, but the chicken was great! I was really impressed by how juicy the chicken was, how big the pieces were, and how crunchy the outside was! The soy garlic glaze wasn't sticky so the outside was super flavorful and crisp still. The chicken was awesome (note that I did get boneless, so I can't speak on the wings), but I was sad that they were out of the things that I had wanted in the first place. Woah! Was not expecting to enjoy this so much. 3 of us large eaters got an extra large of the wings (~30 pieces for $32) that filled us up - at 5 pm on a Sunday, they were out of the "whole" chicken option. I agree with other reviews that the hot king was not as spicy as others, and while we don't care for spicy food the wings were more flavorful than outright spicy. The order also came with a small side of pickled radish which was a nice touch. My main concern with this was that they did not offer any sort of rice to go with the wings - I realize that they have rice as an add-on and options for complete, single-serve meals, but I struggle to wrap my mind around an Asian food place that doesn't offer rice. First off, the food is delicious here. It really is. Pricing isn't too bad as well. My reason for the low rating is for the customer service or lack of. Came in around 1 PM and it seemed like they just got done with a lunch rush. Ordered my food but my card didn't work so I paid cash. But they didn't have my change. No big deal. Got my order and checked to see if I had everything, I didn't. I paid for a dollar for two things of ranch which I asked for and they said they'd grab it for me, no big deal. They come back and said they're out of ranch and they walk away. I ask for a refund and they come back with the ranch on the right. I told them i don't need the ranch and just my refund and they agree. One of the worker goes behind and huddles around other workers as well as a potential boss and they come out with the second ranch which was also barely half full. I ask if I can get my refund and get ignored. All in all, I understand that the pandemic is still going on and that the staff and store are still new and I only lost a dollar and some change but it just seemed like poor management and lack of preparation for the lack of change and ranch that led up to this. An even amount of mouth watering drums and flats glazed with soy and garlic. I was disappointed that I received all of one flavor when I ordered two flavors. Chimcking has completely changed my take on what fried chicken can be in the best possible way. I would absolutely recommend this business to family, friends and anyone who'll listen! I went with the whole fried chicken, half soy garlic flavor and the other Hot king. Crispy on a level I have never had before and absolutely bursting with flavor. I never before thought fried chicken could be this good. Note that they fry a whole chicken and while it is cut into pieces there are still all the bones. I didn't have any issues with that but something to be aware of if your not expecting it. I couldn't pick one flavor to be better than the other. They were both delicious for different reasons. The Hot King did not seem particularly spicy which is fine because they have a hotter version of the same sauce. The whole chicken is made to order and takes around 20min so if you are in a hurry order ahead fyi. I paired the chicken with some Sapporo beer and pickled radish which I highly recommend. A combination that was so good it caused me to eat the entire chicken! Yeah, in that regard mistakes were made but if I'm being honest I would do it all over again in the exact same fashion. Korean fried chicken is the best! I always get both their soy garlic and the mild spicy. I love how it comes with some daikon! Their chicken is extra crispy and super flavorful. The flavor just bursts into my tastebuds. I am more of a fan of their spicy than soy garlic. The mild spicy has just the right amount of spice! It has a kick, but won't make me cry. It takes them about 10-15 minutes to fry the chicken. I just wish the chicken pieces were bigger. I find their menu pricey for the size of their pieces. So I live next to Ktown in Los Angeles. I've tried Kyochon, Bonchon, and all the other korean fried chicken places. Always thought they were super good and that Ktown had the best korean fried chicken. I came back home to Portland for the summer and heard that a new chicken place called ChimcKing was opening up. My first thought was that "there's no way this is going to beat the chicken in LA." I was very very wrong. This is probably the best korean fried chicken place I've ever had. The flavor on the wings makes you keep chomping on them back to back to back. The wings themselves are a little small, but honestly it tastes so good that you've don't really notice. If you're looking for a sweet, yummy wing that you can enjoy without some sauce, get the soy garlic. It's amazing. If you're looking for spicy, get the hot king or the extra hot king. Both are pretty hot, so couple it with some of their housemade sauces. This may seem small but their sauce game is IMPECCABLE. The house mayo and the wasabi mayo are game changers. Will definitely change your chicken-eating experience. Other menu recommendations: Rice King - I have no idea what they put on this cup of rice, but mix it up and it's some seriously addicting stuff. After eating here the other day, I was upset with myself for not coming here sooner! The soy garlic wings are sooo good. The fries are decent, but I would come back over and over for the wings. After months of anticipation and long lines I finally ordered some delivery from ChimcKing. It's definitely tasty, a light crunchy batter coated in a sweet honey glaze sauce. Didn't taste the shoyu or garlic much. The wings aren't as meaty compared to bonchon Korean wing places in New York or Cali. The jojo potatoes were ok, popcorn chicken is fried with the same batter so at first it looked like fried chicken skins. Not much meat here either. These wings are already glazed in a sauce so you won't have the Buffalo Wild Wing or chicken fil a experience with multiple sauce choices. I like the side of pickled daikon. It reminds me of meals at Du Kuh Bee noodle house when it was open. Pickled daikon is refreshing especially after eating spicy hot noodles, fatty bbq pork belly and such. ChimcKing has a nice selection, it's hard to order in door dash because there are no photos and menu descriptions are lacking. For example, check out the menu option for ChimcKing rice. Half soy garlic and half hot spicy. When I got my order it was cold. Like they were sitting out and already made. I would recommend they keep the chicken under some heat lights, because it didn't taste good cold for me. I did like the favor and was surprised that it was still crispy for being cold, which makes me think they would be great leftovers. They also had a limited menu. I decided to try it on 9/10 opening date. I arrived at 11:45am and there were a lot of people waiting inside/outside and was little scared to go in due to lack of social distancing. I ordered the large (20 piece) half and half with soy sauce and spicy wings and asked if it can be pack as two small (10 piece) half & half or charge me for the extra box to split the order. First, the employee had to check with kitchen staff to make sure there was enough wings. This was before noon on opening day! When he got the ok, the employee suggested ordering two small half and half for $1 more but turned out to be $3 more. I was little unhappy but didnt want to stay inside much longer than needed. He said it will take 45 minutes so I came back to pick up the order. When I came back, it was ready but under a wrong name...hope I didnt get Tina's order ;) When I got home to try the wings, they were cold but still crispy. However, wings were pretty small for over $1 per wing price. Both sauces are good but very, very lightly coated and spicy is not spicy at all. Maybe extra spicy is actually spicy?
