We left the island on Sunday after being there 8 days. Had an amazing vacation there as we always do (this was our 6th visit). We stayed at a hotel right on Playa Norte near Ixchel. On Saturday night at a little after 10 pm, the pounding music started. Since my husband and I had to get up at 6 am to catch an early ferry and get to the airport, this was frustrating. By 11 pm I decided to walk out to the beach in the direction the music was coming from (which was toward Ixchel) to see what was going on. Honestly I thought it was just some people down on the beach partying. But no. As I approached Chimbo's which is a convenience store with an open air deck on the back of it, I noticed strobe lights and a DJ and his assistant (no one else inside whatsoever) cranking up the music so loud that when I went inside the music made my chest pound. Again, who was the music for? As there were zero patrons inside. I approached the assistant to ask if they could turn the music down a little because we had to catch an early flight and could hear the music 3 hotels away. I asked him if he was aware that there were literally hundreds of people inside the nearby hotels who weren't going to be able to sleep. He told me "No" over and over again...that he wouldn't turn it down. When I asked why he just shrugged his shoulders and blew me off. I then began to approach the dj himself to talk to him. After ignoring me for a few minutes he came around his equipment and slap/pushed me so hard on the right side of my chest that I almost fell flat on my face. Is this suitable behavior for a man to assault a woman? Very upset I went back to my hotel to ask if she could call the police because I had been assaulted. I then went back with the front desk person at my hotel to try to get her to talk to them. They flat refused to lower the volume. A woman who claimed to be one of the owners got in my face when I also asked her if she could turn it down and if she was aware that there were hundreds of people that weren't going to sleep tonight because of this. She cussed at me and told me "I dont care!". Cops were called. And of course they did nothing. The music seemed to only get louder and went on til after 4 a.m. When we checked out the next morning there was another couple in the lobby saying they got no sleep either. I have a small bruise on my arm where I was slapped by this man and the owner of this fine establishment (sarcasm) "doesnt care" that they are not only keeping people awake but also knows that her employee hits women and also "doesnt care". While driving around Isla Mujeres in a golf cart, we stumbled upon Chimbos by complete chance--and what a find it was! We ended up at a dead end where a friendly guy let us know we couldn't go any farther. That's when we noticed we discovered a restaurant perfectly situated near the water, and it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The setting is absolutely stunning. Picture crystal blue waters just a few feet from your table. It's the ideal spot to soak in the island vibes while enjoying a meal. The only small downside was the occasional vendor stopping by to sell something or sing, but they weren't pushy, so it didn't take away from the experience. I ordered the agua chile, which was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying, loaded with perfectly sautéed shrimp. To top it off, I enjoyed an ice-cold Michelob Ultra--such a refreshing pairing. We only had a few hours on the island, but we couldn't have picked a better place to eat by accident. Chimbos delivered delicious food, great service, and breathtaking views. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Isla Mujeres! read more

Stay away from this place at all costs! They will rip you off! Went there and had some decent food, paid my bill and the next day I saw a tip for $50 on a bill that was $25. The staff is rude as Hell too. I love Isla Mujeres and have been going for years but this place gives the people and the island a bad name. read more

My families favorite beach restaurant on north shore. The prices are really good and the staff is super friendly. It's right on the beach and if you're buying drinks they'll let you leave all your stuff for as long as youre there to swim and stuff. The garlic shrimp is amazing and so is the shrimp cocktail. They have gold non alcoholic options too- lots of fresh fruit smoothies. read more

Beware! These people are scam artists. Tried to charge us for beach chairs and minimum beverage service before they were even open and serving! Half of our party inquired about the beach chairs and we're told they were not open. We waited and when the other half of our party showed up and decided to find another location they threatened to call the police and said we owed them for the chairs and beverage service (THEY WERENT OPEN YET). Stay away from these guys... RUDE, FRAUDULENT, and lost out on days worth of our business. read more

Chimbo's is a great spot to visit for lunch/dinner at Isla Mujeres. There is limited street parking so remember to wear comfortable shoes if you're walking or using a golf cart. The restaurant sits right at a beach front and they offer beach chair reservations too. The ceviche I had here was the best I ever had. I love my ceviche lemony and savory, and this was the perfect combination. The service was kind and consistent. Highly recommend. read more

Located right on North Beach this is a great spot to start your day on Islas Mujeres. You can order drinks and some food and also enjoy the beach. They don't mind you to leave your stuff while you go take a dip in the water. David emphasize that they have cameras all over the restaurant so you can feel comfortable to leave your stuff to go onto the beach. The food was good and the service was great. What a great place to stop on the island. Roger flagged us down in the street and helped us park our golf cart. He then proceeded to serve us the great food and beer that is well known for this establishment. The sand on the beach is like talcum powder, and everything is absolutely beautiful. BEEARE OF THEIR SCAM went here month of may 2022. I will give warning for tourist, the servers here will charge you more than the total amount just like what they did to us. The server wrote down our total amount in pesos and told us the amount in USD, we checked the conversion and he added $30 more in the usd price coz usually tourist wont notice that when paying since servers already concerted the price for them (which is the scam). The waiter noticed I told my husband to convert it and you can tell he's pissed since he didnt thank me on our way out, he intentionally just mentioned my husband's name and thanked him. LOL also, their other scam is they only accept cash, dont believe it. Pay with card (yes they do have the machine for that if you insist and tell them you dont have cash), they cant charge you more and watch them enter the amount in peso. Your bank will do the conversion itself and you wont fall in their scam of charging you more read more

Found this place was accident on our day trip to Isla Mujeres. We could not have been more pleased with the food or service. The coconut shrimp were HUGE. And I couldn't stop myself from eating what was one of the best guacamoles I've ever had. Beautiful to sit in the shade, order food, & take a quick dip before our food was delivered. read more
