Picture crystal blue waters just a few feet from your table. It's the ideal spot to soak in the island vibes while enjoying a meal. The only small downside was the occasional vendor stopping by to sell something or sing, but they weren't pushy, so it didn't take away from the experience. I ordered the agua chile, which was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying, loaded with perfectly sautéed shrimp. To top it off, I enjoyed an ice-cold Michelob Ultra--such a refreshing pairing. We only had a few hours on the island, but we couldn't have picked a better place to eat by accident. Chimbos delivered delicious food, great service, and breathtaking views. On Saturday night at a little after 10 pm, the pounding music started. Since my husband and I had to get up at 6 am to catch an early ferry and get to the airport, this was frustrating. By 11 pm I decided to walk out to the beach in the direction the music was coming from (which was toward Ixchel) to see what was going on. Honestly I thought it was just some people down on the beach partying. But no. As I approached Chimbo's which is a convenience store with an open air deck on the back of it, I noticed strobe lights and a DJ and his assistant (no one else inside whatsoever) cranking up the music so loud that when I went inside the music made my chest pound. Again, who was the music for? As there were zero patrons inside. I approached the assistant to ask if they could turn the music down a little because we had to catch an early flight and could hear the music 3 hotels away. I asked him if he was aware that there were literally hundreds of people inside the nearby hotels who weren't going to be able to sleep. He told me "No" over and over again...that he wouldn't turn it down. When I asked why he just shrugged his shoulders and blew me off. I then began to approach the dj himself to talk to him. After ignoring me for a few minutes he came around his equipment and slap/pushed me so hard on the right side of my chest that I almost fell flat on my face. Is this suitable behavior for a man to assault a woman? Very upset I went back to my hotel to ask if she could call the police because I had been assaulted. I then went back with the front desk person at my hotel to try to get her to talk to them. They flat refused to lower the volume. A woman who claimed to be one of the owners got in my face when I also asked her if she could turn it down and if she was aware that there were hundreds of people that weren't going to sleep tonight because of this. She cussed at me and told me "I dont care!". Cops were called. And of course they did nothing. The music seemed to only get louder and went on til after 4 a.m. When we checked out the next morning there was another couple in the lobby saying they got no sleep either. I have a small bruise on my arm where I was slapped by this man and the owner of this fine establishment (sarcasm) "doesnt care" that they are not only keeping people awake but also knows that her employee hits women and also "doesnt care". I guess Playa Lancheros is the place name as we had lunch in La Casa del TikinXik restaurant. but every review goes by Playa Lancheros so doing the same :P we got the beachside table, it was bit empty, I guess every restaurant along the shore, offers the same view and same tikin xic fish. let me tell you before if you want to order which you should, order ll take 1 hr at least as they ll start cooking after the order. in this restaurant, you can see kitchen (especially for tikin xic fish) nearby parking area. also, they don't serve you nachos free like other Mexican restaurant. they charged us 80 pesos for this when we asked why did not we get nachos. our fish came, it was really good, but it was more than enough for 2 people. 3-4 folks can have whole fish. The fish order goes by per KG. and guesses what it was not expensive. 300 pesos for 1 kg Tikinxic Trad coro, and some other fish 300+ pesos. tikin xic is the preparation, not fish name. Tikin Xic, pronounced "teekeen sheek" in Yucatec Mayan and meaning "dry fish", is a fish dish prepared in the Meso-American style. The fish is prepared whole then marinated with adobo de Achiote and sour oranges then wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked in an earth oven beneath a wood fire in the side dish, rice-lettuce was there with beans and tortillas. the green sauce which was nothing but green chili sauce. mind it, it's very hot but good in taste ;) Waiter seems to very busy. Apart from fish, we ordered Mango Margarita, SOL beer, salsa Mexican. all Mexican restaurant serves their main items with tortillas (bucket of small tortillas) and sauce (green-salsa). you make taco and eat. it's the Mexican thing. Also, they don't serve water in the restaurant. I have read in blogs that one should be very careful with drinking water, but why restaurants don't serve drinking water, not sure. They had added gratuity in the bill. upon asking, you can change the % of tip. 20% is by default added. I have asked for the fresh bill and added 10% to it. one yacht came and all people got off and headed to another restaurant, seems they were under a part of some tour package. This Restaurant had swings and I enjoyed it while waiting for fish, you can also have some fun in the water. water was clear and the reef was not there. we walked on the beach with the drink, took photos, enjoyed swings.
