We always prefer to use family businesses over big corps, when we can. It was time to clean the vent again, so I called to schedule an appointment and got one quickly. Warning: prepare for sticker shock! All service providers are telling us the same thing: prices have skyrocketed since the pandemic. I think they must be out of business? They sent a new employee to clean my chimneys and give me an estimate for a repair. We were told the office was closed and therefore we couldn't get a receipt or an estimate, but they would follow up. Fast forward a few days and we were told we were overcharged by $50 and the owner wanted to come out to confirm the repairs for the estimate. The owner missed our appointment window which put him at our house in the dark. He stated he would come back the following weekend, but totally ghosted us. I called a few times and left messages, but no one called back. The last time I called I received a message stating that the line had been disconnected. No refund, no estimate, and a ton of wasted time waiting for them to show up to our house. read more

I paid $250 for a sweep and inspection. They broke something that cost me $500 to have installed and have completely ghosted me, meanwhile all my heat is escaping out the chimney and PGE bill has sky-rocketed. Call them at your peril. Called Chim Chimney for fireplace sweep and inspection. After waiting around for the appointment they call to tell me they aren't going to make it and they will call to reschedule. Never received a call and should have learned my lesson but I'm not too smart so I called them and set another appointment. This time they did show up but the guy they sent was new or something and was at my house for like four hours! Additionally, in the process of a simple sweep, he manages to break my damper (which I had just replaced a two years prior). Things happen. No biggie. He was going to fix it later in the week. A couple weeks go by so I call and was told they would do it the next day... crickets. I call a couple weeks later they are going to have the guy call me to schedule but nothing. I call a couple weeks after that, they are going to have the big boss call but still nothing. A couple weeks later, I call. No answer so I leave a message but they NEVER replied. Shoddy work and lack of response may pose a danger to your household. We got our chimney cleaned and our fireplace worked on- it's gas, and after a couple grand in repairs, just to get it properly functioning, we discovered it was leaking gas! Long story short, the work was shoddy and a pipe was not properly tightened by Chim Chimney. They were unresponsive to my calls. Fortunately, PGE and they came out hella fast, found the leak, tightened the pipe- (not properly tightened by the company). I never ever got a call back from Chim Chinney and the owner. read more

I had scheduled an appointment with this company for Friday afternoon, 11/22 between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. I took the afternoon off work to accommodate scheduling; yet no one ever showed up or called. I tried calling numerous times with no success. I have been trying to call several times a day since then and get the voicemail message that ends by saying the mailbox is full and cannot accept a message. We paid Jerry $175 to come and do an inspection on 1/12/22 he was 5 hours late. We had called him several times and he did not return our calls. We still decided to use him for repairs because each chimney company charges you hundreds of dollars for their inspection. He was supposed to come out this Monday 1/24/22 and we never heard from him. We've called him and left messages through Chim Chimney's website but have not heard back. Now we have to pay another company to come do an inspection and we lost the $175. I first contacted them the beginning of January and scheduled inspection for the 2nd Friday of that month specifically as we wouldn't be in town until then. Later that week I then get an email saying that they will be in arriving that 1st Friday to do the inspection (when we were out of town). Since I didn't want anyone to be waiting around no one's home and wasting their time, I attempted to call their number to cancel and reschedule for the correct day. I called multiple times and each time it would ring a few times and then the call disconnected with no option to leave a voicemail. Out of desperation I then emailed them explaining the situation and asked to reschedule, no response. This should've been my first warning but they had been recommended by a few people so the next week I reached out again. When I called again on Monday. Beverly answered, apologized for the confusion and rescheduled the inspection. On the day of the appointment I was home and available to let the person in etc. The appointment time came and went without any phone call or or anyone showing up. A few hours after the scheduled appointment, I get an automated email thanking me for my business with a link to client portal for payments etc. That day I placed probably 10+ calls trying to find out information, each time it would ring a while and then hang up without an option to leave a voicemail. On one of my last attempts, Beverly answered apologized for the inconvenience and said that she would contact the technician immediately. In about five minutes she called me back, said that he could get to our house in about 30-40 minutes which was a almost 6pm....waaaaay later than the original 10am appointment! He did an inspection (which cost us $175) and said there were few repairs needed that he would be able to do it the next week. Fine- things happen, people make mistakes. As they had been recommended to us we decided to gave the benefit of the doubt and agree to schedule an appointment for repairs. On the day of the appointment same thing happen again, the appointment time came and went without any phone call or anyone showing up with an email arriving about two hours past the time thanking me for my business with a portal link to payment etc. We tried calling again multiple times, no one answered and no voicemail at all. At this point we were fed up and have begun working with another much more responsive and professional company. I hate to leave a negative review because I understand things come up, however the fact of this happened multiple times, took so much time from our schedules, and there's was no way to get a hold of them consistently is just too much. I can't help but think that maybe he just agreed to do the inspection known he get paid for that and wouldn't follow up on doing the actual repairs. We got a 2nd inspection with a different company and the findings (along with service) was night and day. Save yourself time and money and take your business elsewhere. read more

I needed a chimney cap installed on my chimney. On November 6, 2023, I phoned three chimney companies asking for a quote. One did not return my call and the other two gave me such complicated price explanations that I could not determine the actual end price or get a clear idea of the costs. Just to come out they charged between $99 and $125 to measure my chimney before they could order the cap (the prices quoted for the cap alone were roughly $270 and up). After they ordered and received the cap they would return to install it. I then called Chim Chimney. I spoke with Jerry - he was super knowledgeable, up front and straight with me. He said he had universal chimney caps in stock, which basically fit 95% of all chimneys and asked for a photo of my chimney. He viewed the photo, determined the universal cap would fit and scheduled my installation for the very next day! Not only was Chim Chimney the lowest bid (as far as I could determine) they also offered to look at the flue and cracks in my fireplace and wall free of charge!! I could not be happier with the service I received. Turns out I had two associates who also used Chim Chimney and were extremely satisfied. read more

Called 6 times and texted twice throughout the window. No reply and their mailbox was full. Sent an email and filled out the online form. No response. I called a second company in the area to schedule for their services and when I asked about Chim Chimney, they told me that they had heard that they had gone out of business! Very disappointed...they originally did our home inspection and were fantastic. They told us about the damage to the unit and let us know they could fix it when we were ready. I had my chimney cleaned and had a new cap put on. I paid over 400 and then lit a fire that evening and all the smoke came in the house and was very intense. I called them back and they were pleased to come back and fix the problem. That's what's going on now I'll keep you posted. I have a woodland fireplace insert. Hoping for an easy fix. I increased the stars because they didn't hesitate to come back. Conclusion..Jerry vacuumed out the fireplace, set the handle on the level it should be, stayed until the fire was lit and going good to verify no smoke coming back into the house. I had an estimate from this company in 2014. The repairs were very costly so I'm just now ready to get started. Anyway, between 2014 and now Chim Chimney closed and the original owner's son has taken over the business name. Let me first say, the original owner was highly recommended to me by several people. I call to have the repairs on my fireplace started & also to have my gutters cleaned. I spoke with Jerry. I could tell he was driving and not really able to take down my information so I asked if he wanted me to call back, his reply was no so we set up an appointment and before he could take my info we were "disconnected" or so he says, I could hear him talking to someone else, not business related. I thought this was a very rude move. Here I am setting up an appt and in the middle of our conversation ... literally in the middle of our conversation he takes another call...not business related. I could hear the conversation. I called back and he told me we were somehow disconnected. Hum?? Unfortunately, I had a family emergency and had to reschedule the original appointment. We settled on the day before Thanksgiving. My window was between 1 and 3 for an arrival time. I left work early and was home by 1 but he never showed. Never called. I called him several times, no answer. I was unable to leave a vm because his mailbox was full. I do not recommend. He clearly felt taking his personal call was more important that my business call. And, he clearly does not value my time. To date I've not heard from him. read more
