i was denied service at the bar for not having 2 IDs because I had a New York Drivers License. The bartender seemingly had not seen one before, had to flip through a book of state IDs and i guess mine didn't match the example in the book. The manager swears that NJ requires two IDs when it's an out of state ID, he goes everywhere with his ID and Social Security Card, deeming that to be sufficient ID and that "we like our liquor license, thank you." A Social does not have a photo, date of birth and it is NOT an Identification. needless to say I was irritated and don't intend on coming here unless i have my passport. also because they clearly expect you to bring a passport to NEW JERSEY! I'm 32, there's no reason for my ID to be no good at a franchise. the only difference between me and the other patrons (including a british guy) was that i wasn't white. stating the obvious. read more

I went to this chilis Saturday night around 8:00PM with my mother - I was craving an old timer all day! As I walked in at 8:01PM I was informed they cannot seat the two of us because it was past 8PM. I then tried to call in to see if I would be able to get it to go, to which they did not answer the phone. My mother and I then went to Friday's up the street, was seated by 8:10pm and we were completed with our meal and back in our car at 8:50pm. I was very upset because it was still bright outside and Chilis would not seat us at 8:01PM. Now I'm not saying I won't go back to chili's, however I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

My Daughter almost fell right in the parking lot, told the Hostess and she said " oh we don't have any salt the Plow Company usually treats the lot" It still your business and should have salt to treat the side walks and walk paths.. This review if for a take out order a few months ago. I should have written it sooner, and I still think about it so I decided to write this. I like Chili's and we usually go there to eat. This time I decided to order take out instead. The food was great, but I am not a believer in using non recycled products, i.e. styrofoam. I could understand the main meal coming in styrofoam, since that is their take out container (unfortunately), but the whole rest of the order was placed in styrofoam as well. The small paper containers (salsa, guac) were placed in a large styrofoam container, the additions to the order (tortillas, condiments to the fajitas) all added to additional large styrofoam containers too. I couldn't believe the wastefulness of non recyclable containers. It made me never order take out again since then. Maybe this is petty, but if you think of everyone who orders takeout, and all of the styrofoam used, it makes me sick to think of it. Please Chili's, can you use something recyclable for takeout?? read more

We frequent chilis on roughly a monthly basis, and we just moved to the area so over the weekend we figured we'd go to the nearest chilis as opposed to our regular one in freehold. what a god awful experience! we waited over an hour to get our meals which were some of the most simple items on the menu, mind you the place was not even that busy. Everyone around us got their food before us, even if they were seated after we were. the appetizers were burnt and watery and when our food actually did come to the table it wasnt what i ordered! The waitress was hardly by the table the whole night, especially at the end of the meal so we left cash on the table and left. This place and these people are a mess! read more

We have been going to random Chili's throughout the Tri-State for years and my wife and I will always order a Presidente Margarita. The last two times we ordered from this particular Chili's something was off. One time it seemed like they forgot the tequila and the other time it just had a strange taste. We are in no rush to go back for sub par drinks. However, the staff here always seems like they are in a rush, a rush to turn your table over, even when they are not too busy. read more

Today i had free time to post all the reviews I've been meaning to get to and I've come to two conclusions. 1. I eat out too often and 2. I was not wrong when I said it is hard to find good quality food in Toms River. After a horrible experience at BWW my co-workers opted for Chili's as our new after work spot. The waiter was awesome. The menu looked good. The food was not good. The fajitas were bad. I got three small pieces of sliced chicken with a squirt of some sort of weird pink sauce, right in the middle of what I'm sure amounted to at least two whole onions and green peppers partially cooked on my plate. My tortillas were cold and hard and the salsa made the BWW salsa look good. Our cheesy fries had more grease than the cast of Grease and came in world's tiniest plate. And to make matters worse my co-worker ordered boneless wings but couldn't eat them all because they had dried out all the way through and she could barely cut it with a steak knife...WTF? If I went back I would stay safe with a salad or something, maybe dessert, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back! read more

The Toms River NJ Chilis is outstanding. The servers always aim to please. I drink a lot of soda with my meal (every servers annoyance) and the servers I've had there always keep my glass full! They are on top of their game. We also had a great experience during the Yankees playoffs. The bar has fantastic flat screens and we were able to go watch and eat and be taken care of. What more could you want? Oh, healthy food? YES! I had the guiltless steak and it was out of this world! YUM. I ordered a platter of ribs for super bowl and they were amazing. I ordered the same platter tonite and they came without a side of BBQ sauce. I didn't even ask for a side the first order. First let me start with the good things. My husband's Texas ribs and French fries were very good. His beer was delivered with dinner. We ordered bone in smoked wings as an appetizer. Our dinners were delivered but no wings. They offered to get them for us to eat with our dinners or wrap them to go home. Just canceled. Appetizer, eaten before dinner. I had ordered the quesadilla explosion salad with dressing on the side. The manager took the cost of the salad from our check but the salad had a spicy pepper in it. Never had this salad with any spicy component and I have eaten it many times at this and other Chilis. Never spicy. It would have been a lovely salad with nice fresh veggies. Dinner was done for me. I ate the quesdillas and some chicken but left the majority. Our server asked how things were. No wings, compted salad I couldn't eat. Great, excellent. What the heck? read more

Went to Chili's today to try some of the new menu items they've been advertising, including the supposedly "smoked in-house" ribs and iron skillet sides. Here's the thing - anyone who's ever been to a place that really smokes their food knows the first thing that happens when you walk in is that you smell the smoke. That didn't happen when we walked in. Also, after leaving, we drove around the back of the building and guess what? No smokers! Now, I'm not naïve enough to believe they are really smoking the items (no chance the company would spend the money to retrofit their restaurants with smokers for temporary menu items), but I just wanted to prove my point. Anyway, we started by ordering the fried pickles from the appetizer menu. A lot of places are adding these to their appetizer selections, and almost all of them are doing it better than Chili's. The pickles they use aren't crisp and are too thin to hold up to being fried. Also, the batter is thin and fell right off the pickle when I bit into them. The fried pickles at Buffalo Wild Wings are much better. For my lunch, I ordered the half rack of smoked baby back ribs with Dr. Pepper sauce. They came with the new skillet smoked potato wedges. I also ordered a side of skillet jalapeno corn bread. My wife ordered the spicy shrimp tacos, which come with rice and beans. My ribs tasted good, but they hardly had any meat on them, and they didn't have the taste, texture or look of ribs that have been smoked. They must source their ribs from hog farms that specialize in skinny pigs. The sauce was tangy and sweet. The skillet potatoes were actually very good, and I could have ordered an extra helping. They did have a lightly smoked taste, but again, I'd be willing to bet they use liquid smoke at some point in the prep. The star of my meal was the jalapeno cornbread. Though it was unnecessarily covered with melted cheddar cheese (which I peeled off), it was moist and buttery, with a spicy kick that sneaks up on you without being overwhelming. The shrimp tacos my wife ordered looked sloppily thrown together, and even though she asked for the sauce on the side (in the past, she has found it's better to add it on her own as it can be very hot), the sauce wound up on the tacos when they were made. Also, the shrimp were cold, which, when added to the warm tacos made for an unpleasant combination. I don't mean they were cold as in "they had been warm and cooled off." I mean, they were cold, like "right out of the refrigerator" cold. The rice appeared dry, and the beans were a bit soupy. We ordered iced tea for our drinks, and the wait staff filled our glasses without being asked. There's also an option to request drinks from a computer tablet on the table, but we didn't utilize that option. By the way, there are other things one can do on these tablets - see other menu offerings, desserts, a bill-pay option, and games that can be played while waiting for one's meal (further evidence that our society has become overly dependent on online entertainment, even when out for a meal with other actual humans). The staff was okay, but we spent nearly half our meal having to listen to the personal conversation between a bar patron sitting about 3 feet from our table and one of the waitresses who must be an acquaintance of the man. Also, they had seated a family with a loud young child in one of the booths bordering the bar area. Seems like an odd place to seat a party with a child in a half empty restaurant. Overall, the meal and the overall dining experience was just okay. Nice staff, mediocre food, lousy presentation. It certainly wouldn't encourage me to want to return to Chili's any time soon. I've eaten at several other Chili's locations over the years, but it seems their quality and service is on the decline. read more

Every time we go, we always get Fajitas. Every time we've gone over the past year or so, the portion sizes have dwindled. Tonight we went & they have dwindled to the point that it is no longer worth it to eat here. I am not joking or exaggerating when I tell you that the sides that come with the fajitas (sour cream, salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, and some spicy purple stuff that's new) come in the tiny cups (that are usually reserved for ketchup to dip your french fries) are pitifully small. Less than a teaspoon of sour cream, guacamole & salsa (that is all watery - not a remnant of a tomato in this nor in the larger portion of salsa that came with the chips & salsa appetizer). The shredded cheese - 12 shreds of cheddar cheese! No I did not mistype that - 12 individual shreds of cheese... SERIOUSLY??? Was I suppose to portion that out to 4 shreds on each of the three tortillas? And the tortillas have shrunk also. There were barely any peppers & onions. It was disgraceful. I guess they're saving money - but I wont return, so they wont get another dime from me. 12 shreds of freakin' cheese!!!! SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?! read more

I went to chilis last week with my boyfriend. Our waiter was excellent but I don't understand why I'm tipping the server if I'm ordering drinks and desert myself on a tablet. Its uncomfortable does anyone know how to go out with technology anymore. The food sucked I got a steak so tender but no flavor. We went to this place last night and it will be the last time here. After we were seated it went down hill from there. We decided to keep it simple for food big mouth bites the southwestern rolls and the nachos. Pretty simple right easy fast. Well it was anything but that first the server must have had a cold. Kept coughing and sneezing over the table told her to get another server for us.meanwhile we are waiting for our food for a hour as other people are coming and going. Realizing that this is a chain restaurant and also that these type of places are hit and miss, this review is based on my recent visit to the Toms River Chili's on Hooper Ave. Our server was the best. She couldn't have been more pleasant and attentive. The food was awesome. I had the Fajitas from the 2 for 20 menu. (2 full sized entrees and one app for 20$) The portion was huge and sizzling hot. The side toppings for the fajitas were fresh as well. My kids had the chicken tenders and burgers which all looked very good. My wife had a Cajun chicken pasta dish which she enjoyed. My brother in law also had the fajitas. For the appetizers we got the onion rings, chips and salsa and Texas fries. All were were spot on. The chips and salsa as a separate appetizer are all you can eat, but this was the first time a server allowed us the same deal with the 2 for 20 deal. Their were six in our party so we got 3 of the 2 for 20 deal and since we really enjoy the chips, by the server allowing us the endless chips deal on one of the 2 for 20, this allowed us to get 3 different apps. We always assumed that the chips and salsa on the 2 for 20 deal offered no refills, since you're already getting a good deal for 20$. So we were going to order 2 chips and salsa and the onion rings. She immediately brought out 2 baskets of chips and refilled both of them. This trip was a great experience. read more

This place was very good in the summer of 2015, but that winter it came to a halt when the burger I ordered was so raw it wasn't even chew able. When I told them the problem they did not make a new burger they gave me the same burger but just covered it in more guac like it wasn't soggy to begin with. I guess it's worth a try considering it is not expensive but to me it's a hit or miss. read more
