Chili's in La Mesa has taken a stand. They prefer to allow dogs at the table rather than tell the owner to keep the animal on the floor at their feet. They claim they are "sensitive to the subject", but just know that the table where you are sitting probably had a dog laying its head on it & the water glasses were probably licked by that same dog. Now that service dog certification is easily obtained online, anyone's animal can be called a service animal. Service animals are trained. Your "other child" is not & I do not care to eat at a place that prioritizes animals over humans. read more

I love this Chili's! The best waitress is Amadi! Even though they messed up my order once - I will always go back! They brought someone else's food to our table. The manager always comes to check on all the tables and when they served us our meal plus someone else's meal he came on back and gave us chili's dollars to spend on our next visit! I think they are a great friendly place to go anytime of the day. read more

Came in yesterday for a early lunch with my wife an son. This place has completely changed! And couldn't be more pleased with the place. Only downfall was our waitress she had a sour attitude n didn't pay much mind to us, other then that utterly fantastic. I ordered the Big Mouth Bites their version of sliders, let me just say man are those things tasty, my wife got a bacon burger with onion rings, she said it wasn't just another run of the mill burger, she really was loving the new pickles they served with the meals she said best pickles she ever had. I took a friend of mine for lunch who had a hard time walking to the La Mesa Chili's no direct ramp in front. I wanted just chips and salsa I got a full coarse of guacamole and salsa which I did not order. I accepted it anyway. I was charged 1.00 for playing half a game on the tablet which was sitting on the table and said free games no big deal. The blackberry ice tea was never really cold despite being in ice. The salad was good not exceptional and her soft tacos were just ok. When you pay $5.50 just for two ice teas I consider that too pricey. My bill for two of us was over $40.00 just too expensive for what we got. I went to Anthony fish grotto two weeks ago and the price out the door for a great lunch was $38.00 Will not go back. read more

The few times I have gone to any of them the food (by the time it gets to u is cold!) the cooks need more culinary experience, and the waitresses have attitudes if u change ur mind on ur order, ask for a baby seat, and take about 15 minutes on average just to take ur order. I went here the other night for date night with my boyfriend. It was $5 Margarita Day which is mostly the reason we came. It was super busy but we were still seated very quickly which was nice. We got there during the dinner rush too. It took a little while to get my Margarita but that was expected since it was so busy that night. The waitress was so nice and warned us ahead of time that the bartender was a little backed up on orders so we were fine. I'm glad she told us because otherwise I would have assumed they forgot about me. She even brought us out chips and salsa while we were waiting for our appetizers. The appetizers were delicious! Fried pickle and fried asparagus. The food was very good also, Chili's is one of my favorite places to eat. I always find myself ordering the same thing though which is the Bacon Chicken Ranch Quesadilla because it is so delicious!! I love chili's and I was very disappointed with this location we had a party of 10 and we were told it would be a 45 minute wait. So we decided to wait after the 45 minute wait it was it will be about 10 minute and it keep being even longer and longer and there were people who came after us getting seated and eating and leaving we waited forever and decided to just leave because it made no since to tell us a time and keep giving us the run around I will not be going to that chillis again. read more

SAD SO SAD, I grew up here in La Mesa and remember when they built it. When it first opened it was ok We live near and have stopped in plenty of times and watched it slowly get worse. Just a matter of time and it will fail if they keep up high priced poor quality food, (service is ok I guess.) But restaurant was dirty, tonight my food came out not to my order (chicken) I had to watch daughter and wife eat and almost finish while they put the right meat (steak) on my cold old plate. $5.65 for a bottle Corona. That I finished drinking waiting for my proper plate to come out. (They should have offered my second one for free) COME ON. (I COULD GO ON BUT WY BOTHER) I very rarely complain but im just sick of it. Never to go back and lots of family and friends to tell about my bad experiences. SAD Just SAD. read more

Bottom line, whoever is in the kitchen has no idea what they're doing, and when we complained, the manager sounded like she has given the same speech to apologize for the bad food a million times which was not comforting. The "grilled" chicken Caesar salad is made in an oven BECAUSE CHILIS BAR AND GRILL NO LONGER HAS A GRILL and came out cold. Stopped into Chili's today to eat lunch. It had been a few days that we decided on Chili's for our lunch/business meeting. I can't tell you how excited I was to dig into my absolute favorite Chili's meal. Perhaps my FAVORITE meal, that happens to be served at Chili's When I gave my order to the waitress, she replied, "I'm sorry we no longer serve chicken fried steak." OMG no longer serve chicken fried steak! Have the terrorist finally won? So I was saddled with something light years away from their chicken fried steak, the bacon cheese burger. was dry as can be, fries were decent, but could not even finish this hockey puck. I gave the place 2 stars, because the others did seem to enjoy their meal & the salads that came with theirs did look decent. Our waitress was very pleasant & very attentive to our needs during the meal. One thing I noticed was a sign in the men's room on the paper towel dispenser that it was out of order. It was laminated & professionally made. It looked like it had been there awhile, I'm thinking, by the time it took to make the sign, they could have called the vendor & have it repaired. I spoke the host about it & he told me there was another paper towel dispenser on another wall. I gave a quick glance around & did not see it, maybe an additional sign might help. I reverted to the old standby, a wad of TP, but I wonder how many other guys would do the same, or just head out the door. After all, it is in the MEN'S room & you all know how disgusting men are.. I'm one! What really put the meal in the dumper was just as we were served our food, they sat 6 people & 2 crying babies right next to us... no wait, not crying babies... WHALING babies! How people can bring their whaling spawn into public is beyond me, that's what McDonald's has a playland for, so we don't have to listen to what obviously you have successfully tuned out. But I would not have minded it the manager came over & asked them to be considerate of others & take them outside, if they don' t have the common sense to do so on their own, which they did not have. And lastly, don't really enjoy eating at a restaurant/day care center, as there were 2 other kids seated in what might consider an out of the way place where they were playing with trains on the table, playing computer games running back & forth from one table to the next & the whole time, no parental oversite that I could see. It seemed like they were just dropped off there. Chii's... you want 5 stars next time, bring back the chicken fried steak, fix your paper towel dispenser & tell parents to take their kid's outside if they can't be quite! read more

I usually love eating at Chilis. The food is usually really good and so is the service but not at this one! We were greeted at the door by a super friendly guy which was a plus. We got a really nice table but the server was horrible. She didn't smile and when we asked for more time to order she rolled her eyes and took even longer to come back. When she came back to take our order she seemed annoyed that we made her wait. She has to realize that sometimes there may be new people coming here and patience is key. After she took our order she kept slamming things down on to the table and then going to a register to gossip with her friends. People at tables could see all four of the women gossiping and they were talking about the people at their tables. So unprofessional! When we got our food the woman didn't say anything nice like enjoy your food or how was it, she just kept walking by and then put the check on the table. the food is okay but this location should really work on their customer experience. every time we come in here like 3 members of the staff are in the front and never greeting anyone. we always have to stand awkwardly in the front staring at them while they avoid eye contact and act busy looking over the screen in front of them. we will stand in the front just waiting for them to take a moment so we can, at the very least, get on a list to be seated, but they just keep whispering among themselves. i have to interrupt their conversations just to ask if we can please be put on a list to be seated since no one seems to think it's their job to be the host/hostess. ive worked in busy bars and restaurants and everyone knows at least greet the patrons when they come in.... we finally get seated and the hostess doesnt smile and just puts the menus at the end of the table dismissively. thank goodness the waitress is usually nice read more

Sub par today for sure. My son chose this place for our lunch date bc he really likes their soup and loves their salads. When we pulled up the parking lot was empty so I pulled into the first spot. There was a boy there bent down by the curb and apparently he was fixing something but I couldn't see until I got out after he shook his head in disgust and mouthed some words. This guy looked 15!! How was I supposed to know he was cemeting something??!! I had to give him some common courtesy rules and explain to him that he could've politely asked me to move my car which I did anyways. Super rude I wanted to leave but my son insisted!! So anyways we get in and sit. He ordered the unltd soup and salad that way we can get the chips. Mind you he's 5 so he won't eat even half a bowl of soup and maybe a whole salad. I asked the server at the end if he could have his salad to go and she said no. I said okay fine we'll just take his soup to go. So before we were done my son had to use the bathroom. I told the server and the hostess! 2 people not one. first 2-star review on here? i was debating between 2 & 3 stars but based on my most recent experience, a 2 it is. the sister and i went here for lunch last week...it's close to my house and i always seem to think that going to chilis is a good idea once someone suggests it. so we get to the restaurant and the parking lot looked pretty dead which was a good sign (the service sucks ass here when it's busy.) the hostess was nice and led us to a booth in the back by the chilis-to-go station...meh, whatever. since it looked slow in the restaurant, i was surprised that it took five minutes for someone to come get our drink order. the waitress explained that she was not our server but she was taking our drink order...apparenlty jens, our server was off doing something more important. jens came by after another five minutes and asked us what we wanted to drink...and was confused that the other server took our order. we both had the bottomless express lunch which is your choice of soup, salad and chips & salsa. it's pretty cheap (6.99) and sounded like a good idea. the food took a little long to get which i didn't understand. we both chose the enchilada soup which came out luke-warm. since the broth is so thick, the soup not being served hot made it a bit of a turn off. since we had a long wait for our food, i'm assuming that it was just sitting in the kitchen window ready for awhile. the salad was fine as were the chips and salsa. jens came by to ask us if we were doing ok, i didn't hear him because he mumbled and when i said "what?" he responded as if i were an idiot by slowly saying "aaaarrrre...yoooou...o-k?" charming. everytime this server came over and interacted with us, he had an attitude...like we were inconveniencing him. due to the fact that we had bad service and our server was such a douche bag, we were both over lunch and asked for the check. we left cash including tip and were finishing up our iced tea and jens comes over and says "are you done with that?" and reached over my sister to take the money then waited until he was walking away to say "have a good one." bad lunch in my opinion. based on it being so close it's possible i will give the restaurant another shot and just insist on not being served by jens to the hostess. i wont be back here for awhile, sorry chili's. read more

We usually love Chili's but we will not be returning to this Chili's after our horrible service tonight. We called and spoke to two different employees who told us there was happy hour until closing but when we arrived we were told that happy hour stopped at 7pm. We called later to complain to the manager and the hostess who answered the phone was rudely talking to other customers in the restaurant while I was on the phone explaining to her our situation. The manager took about 5 minutes to come on the phone but barely spoke English and just offered to give us Happy Hour rates after we had already left the restaurant. If I was able to give no stars I would. I tried to give this location a chance, but I guess the staff members here do not put their customers first AT ALL. I understand how it is to work in the food industry and customer service but it seems like none of the workers here understand what it is to give customer service. I had came here with my boyfriend maybe 3 times now and I had no choice but to review this location. I hope that the management team look at their staff and maybe re-evaluate or train all of the team members here. 1st time here my boyfriend and I dined in and our service sucked because we ended up waiting for our food for so long and the thing was the restaurant wasn't even busy that was our first encounter so I thought maybe they were under staffed or something. 2nd time ordered for pick up Walked in through the main door and the hostess just pointed at the bar, I guess that is where we have to pick up our food I waited so long at the bar no one ever came out, again they were not busy. So instead I walked around the corner and they had there to go area there, a little advice maybe the door to pick up shouldn't be in an area that is most likely missed my customers. So we had to ring the bell they had there to get some service. NOBODY WAS THERE!! 3rd time ordered to go again What can I say, I am a nice person I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but again the young lady working in the front told us to go to the bar again to pick up our food the thing is if you have great customer service or any type of knowledge of customer service especially when it is not busy wouldn't you walk your customer over to let the bartender know that we are picking up our food!! Again I waited for the bartender he ignored me and my boyfriend went to the pick up area again rang the bell and ask for help while I was still waiting on the bartender maybe after 20 min he noticed me and walked over by the time that happened my boyfriend had already paid for our food. Oh and to put the icing on top of the cake there was a worker sitting at the area where he could of helped us or said something to us about if we were already being helped or not!! Also I recommend your workers not speaking in their language in front of their customers Even if you are on your break again side note I highly recommend that all the workers get trained or better yet get new ones that understand what it is to give customer service I'm not asking for high customer service just customer service. Being that this place is less than 5 minutes from where I live, we wind up eating here fairly often. There are a couple really great servers, but the food is not always consistant. It's great that you can turn any of the hamburgers into a vegetarian burger, and I love that they have Blue Moon on tap. Good place, for the most part, but there are a few servers and hostesses that they could do without. read more

Took my father in law for his birthday yesterday to Chilis and the service and food was ok. I ordered the combo mix shrimp and sirloin steak and my shirmp was over cooked and steak looked like well done instead of medium rare like I ordered it. My daughter had the child pizza off the kids menu and she did not like it she had to send it back. What child does not like cheese pizza...Waitres seemed pleasant and sweet but in a hurry and the place was not busy they had plenty of open tables. It seems like it can be a hit n miss with their food. Their enchilada soup is good, tasty with pieces of chicken with some spice to it. Salads were good, brother in law ordered salad with grilled chicken and he liked it. My husband ordered grilled shrimp and he did not enjoy his dish, he ended up with an upset stomach that evening. On another note if you have a sweet tooth, being it was a birthday celebration we ordered a few desserts to pass around the table and Chilis desserts are good especially the molten chocolate lava cake. I even enjoyed it and I do not like chocolate cake but that one was spongy and ozzing with hot fudge from the center when you cut into it not too rich just perfect to take care of your sweet tooth. read more

I'm usually a fan, but not this time. My mom, my friend and I went there for lunch today, and we had a few problems. For one, the place was freezing. The air conditioning vents were blowing out ice cold air on full blast. I mentioned it to the hostess, Kaliee, and she did everything she could to help with it, but to no avail. I then mentioned it to our server, but nothing happened. I really don't think it was their fault. I think the manager just didn't care. I am in a wheelchair and on oxygen, and told her that I have lung cancer and that it wasn't good for that freezing air to be blowing right on me, but nothing changed. I even left the table to try and wait somewhere else that was warmer, but the whole place was freezing. And it was cold outside so there was no excuse for the AC. I don't know if I was the only one who complained, but as I looked around I saw other customers shivering and putting on sweaters and coats while they were eating. When we finally got our food after over 45 minutes, it got ice cold immediately. The food was good, ( not great) but I got the Smokehouse 2 item combo, and was definitely NOT worth $16.49. My mom got the sirloin steak and a shrimp add-on, and the shrimp were little baby shrimp that almost looked like salad shrimp. All-in-all, decent food but a very uncomfortable experience. Between the wait and being half frozen to death, it will be a LONG time before we go back. And we were pretty regular customers. Sad. read more

Food is garbage. One bartender in particular is a rude, unhappy person and it shows.

I don't care that this is a chain restaurant, I'm frickin HAPPY that it is...that means wherever I may roam, there will be a CHILI'S! Standard order is southwest egg rolls appetizer and the chicken caesar pita, which is no longer on the menu, but they'll make you one, and if they don't, use the "puss in boots sad cat eyes look", it works everytime!!! (see other reviews). This order varies only slightly, sometimes its the loaded nachos appetizer, where someone very carefully adds beans, cheese and jalapenos to EACH CHIP! I mean really, that is love right there! And sometimes its the chicken ranch sandwich...which you have to order with extra wing sauce and ranch on the side cuz you'll need to dip the ginormous chicken breast in it when you run outta bread. And the fries are super salty, just the way I love them! I don't know what's not to love about this place, it's better than Applebee's fo sho! read more

I LOVE coming to this chilis! I think I come here too much. But I can't help it...I enjoy the food but I most definitely enjoy the staff. From mornings right when they open...until the minutes before closing. THEY make me want to come back. Even if it's three times a week. Okay so this is solely based on the catering experience that I have had. So for my dirty thirty I had my party catered by this particular Chili's. My food was made on time and they staff went out of their way to give me extra utensils!! What great is that the food was plentiful and soooo reasonably priced. Chili's is a great option to cater a party without having to spend soooo much time in the kitchen!! It's a good idea to transfer the food into warmers so the food stays hot for the duration of the party! read more
