The worst experience ever at Chili's on 39th Street in Independence, MO. The server (Gregory) was THE most unattentive EVER. He didn't write down our order at all. We never saw except when he took our order and brought our drinks. He never once checked on us. It took nearly 45 minutes for our food...and my order came with chips and salsa, which didn't come until I asked the manager when she brought our meal. THEN, my son's burgers were burned and inedible. We had to flag the server down to tell him, as he never checked on us. The manager brought the new burgers and said, 'oh, those are really burned. I am so sorry about that.' I mentioned how inattentive he was and she apologized, but didn't really seem to care and brought a 2nd order of chips and salsa because we had to ask, as well as ask for water refills. To top it off...they removed the cheeseburgers from the check and added the charge back on!!! I left a very small tip...just so they know I didn't forget the tip (I am known to tip 20-25%) and left a looooong comment for them. We go to Chili's once a month, or so, and it's always been a favorite but over the past year it has gotten worse. After today, we are done. read more

Well this is a very sad day for me when I have to share what I am about to share. I would like to first explain that Chilis has been my favorite restaurant since I was 17 (when I worked there) and I am now 35. This has been a place I look forward to going if I've had a really terrible day and need cheering up or had a great day and want to celebrate. My husband and I went last night as a celebration for me doing well on a nursing school exam as these are very difficult. The first thing I found odd was of course they had a new menu (again) which normally isn't a big deal because they have new menu choices. However, this time it was as if they cut their menu in half!! A lot of items were removed and it seemed like I was looking at a menu on the side of a street taco vendor downtown. Two of the pages were just alcohol drink options. Then we ordered the chips and queso (a staple if you ask me) and we're delighted to find they still did half priced apps, but you never would have known it because all of the signage around the restaurant and on the tables was removed. So we get our queso and what they really need to say is you get half the size of the appetizer for half the price so basically it's a wash. I then ordered my fav on the planet, classic chicken nachos!! This was the most disappointing plate of nachos I have ever seen. I ordered them without the seasoning stuff they put on the chips and it looked as though the cook started to put the seasoning on and realized part way through the order was 86 seasoning and stopped because some of the chips had the seasoning and others didn't. The chips were burnt and would normally be loaded with yummy goodness visible on each chip and these looked sad and homely with little chicken, queso, etc. I didn't want to complain because I was awfully hungry and didn't want to chance new nachos with a new mystery ingredient (wink wink). As we were finishing up I ordered the beverage I was drinking to go and expected the normal 32 oz foam cup and the waiters brought out theses tiny little kids cups. I questioned her about this and she said they did away with those larger cups. As we were leaving I stopped by the ladies room and OMG! The first thing I noticed was the smell! It was awful! There paper towels and other misc items on the floor. The toilets were disgusting and one of the doors wouldn't even close! I would like to give our waitress props! She was great. Friendly, fast, and attentive. Other than that I feel as though a part of my life that I loved for so long has died. The only thing I can hope for is maybe I can go to another chilis in a neighboring town, however it was quite convenient to this one right down the street from my house. But unfortunately I don't believe I will be back to this location. So sad. read more

I've been reading the negative reviews of this place and honestly they have left me confused. I have been to this Chili's many many times over the four years we have lived in the area and have never had a bad experience, excessive wait, cold food, really anything at all to complain about. I cannot speak to the experience of others, but for me and my family we highly recommend the restaurant. The 2 for $24 meal deal is perfect for couples, has a good variety of options, and the portions are good for the price. We always leave full and happy. read more

Back once again. Got a new server this time, Jordan, and he was damn good for being new. Love breakin in the newbs. I make it pretty easy though, with my serving/bartending experience. Late last night I went to dinner with my daughter. She ordered sliders with fries and I ordered spicy shrimp tacos. My daughter ate 1/2 of hers. My shrimp tacos were cold and not even sure whether even cooked all the way. Disappointing. While sitting there in deep conversation with my daughter after paying my bill... out of the corner of my daughter eye was a roach on the wall in our booth and then crawled on the table! Went inside to get name put down for wait. The host took my name and phone number. I received this message "Chili's: Check your place in line: https://yelp.to/qTKq/HApySSh6sP We'll txt when the table's ready Reply STOP to end msgs" the inside was busy and was told about 20-25 min wait for two people. So we went back to the car to sit in the air condition to wait. 35 mins later still no message, went inside to check the status of our wait and the lobby was clear no one was waiting. Everyone after us, small and large parties have been seated, confused I went back up to the host and ask about our table and she said " I called your name" well when you have people over flowing outside/in their cars waiting "calling their name" isn't going to get them. Why ask for a phone number and a text message that says it will notify when it doesn't? There is a reason this location is only 2 stars, we won't be back. read more

We had the worst lunch experience at the Chili's on 39th St across from Independence Center 2/26. First we found hair a in our super greasy chips. Then it took over an hour to get our food (it was not packed by any means.) We finally get our food my sisters salmon is burnt and dry and when she asks for her broccoli that comes with the meal as listed on the menu they said " Oh, we are out of broccoli" didn't offer to replace it with any thing. Then my moms chicken fried chicken was burnt to a crisp her mash potatoes were super cold and her gravy looked like mayo. My salad and soup were not good either!! The cucumbers on my salad look like they were two weeks old kind of shriveled and my potato soup tasted like baby food with lots of cheese. Oh, and did I mention I did not get any dressing or silverware. When I asked for a fork they brought me back a knife. Then as if things could not get any worse I left my favorite sweater vest. I called an hour later to inquire about it and was told "sorry, but my manager says we did not find any sweater vest ". Which is bull because I know I took it off as soon as we sat down. The manager did not offer to comp anything to make up for the mess other than more burnt food and her apologies. This whole process took over two hours. Walked in and was told it would be a 10 minute wait. There were empty tables available on the left of the dining area. There was a crowd gathering in the waiting area by the front door and then the oddest thing happened. A couple walked right past the hostess and sat down at a booth skipping the 10 minute wait. We mentioned this to the hostess how unprofessional that was only to be told that the bar area was "open seating". We left immediately and went to 54th street grill one block to the west. After seeing the level of incompetence at the door was not willing to gamble with our lunch. read more

I go to Chili's a couple times a month, but I have never been more disappointed than I was yesterday. I will say our server was a nice young man. However, my son's tortilla shells for his fajita's were crispy, like they had been sitting out for a long time. I love their Southwest Eggrolls and I eat them for a meal, usually not the entire serving. However, this time they were about half the size as they usually are. What really topped things was when I asked for my check I was asked if I was paying cash or credit. I said credit and was told to pay on the little computer they have on the table! Seriously, if I wanted self service I would have gone to a fast food restaurant. I'm surprised he didn't tell me to order from the computer to begin with.
