Crab season was very delayed this year so as soon as they became available, my friends and I were definitely itching to get some. Lucky for us, eater published an article of best places to get crab and I found a familiar chef offering her Indonesian Crab feast. I used to attend Chef Siska's pop-ups back in the day and she's one of the only people offering Indonesian cuisine in the Bay Area. Most people are familiar with Singaporean or Malaysian Chili crab but chef Siska offers a great Indonesian Crab with Padang Sauce. The crab was really fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed this crab feast. The sides were crab cornbread, crab Rangoon and crab salad. These were probably the best crab Rangoons I've had and the crab cornbread blew my mind - it's the kind of fusion that was unexpected but was fantastic. Chef Siska is definitely one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to getting some rice plates from her after crab season (she's concentrating on crab orders in January/February). She's the type of chef that deserves the support from our Bay Area foodie community. Highly recommended!!! read more

Siska and her assistants catered a party at my home yesterday. The food was amazing, and she and her staff could not have been more attentive and helpful! We did an entire roast pig, skewers of pork, chicken and fish, noodles, and Indonesian salad. It was a lavish spread, and absolutely delicious! I recommend Cisco highly for your catering needs. I have been following Chef Siska for a number of years now. I eat out a lot but Indonesian food is so hard to find in SF/Bay Area. I adore Indonesian food and her dishes are crave-worthy. Unfortunately, I had a pretty suboptimal meal last night at the April Balinese Feast. Although I appreciated the concept, execution was lacking. Pros: - The chef seems super nice and passionate - As mentioned, I like the concept of a family style Indonesian feast because there is nothing else like it in SF. I appreciate the diversity - Really enjoyed the use of SPICES/fragrants - For the QUANTITY of food, it was not expensive ($45 which includes service) - Amuse buche - 2 of the 3 items were executed very well - the peanut/anchovy and the pickled cucumber one. Cons: - All the proteins (chicken, prawns and fish) were painfully overcooked. The chicken THIGH (not breast) was dry. The prawns were mealy, either from being overcooked and/or from being not fresh. The tuna was the best out of all the proteins, but that was still overcooked. - I actually really don't like oversalted food, but even this food was under-salted for me. - The fish soup would have been the best thing, if it had not arrived luke warm. - Even the coconut rice, which is usually an easy win, was undercooked. read more

I had asked Siska to organize a private dinner for a surprise proposal to my now fiancée up in Marin. She created an amazing, customized, seafood-oriented multi course tasting menu for the two of us. She used a lot of locally sourced ingredients and prepared a fascinating Indonesian-Californian fusion menu. The taste profile was incredible and the courses were creatively designed without trying too hard. Siska also did an amazing job pairing the food with incredible wines from Italy and seeing through overall execution of the dinner and had great suggestions to ambiance and setting. Lovely meal, lovely chef! I've been attending Chef Siska's dinners for awhile and am a big fan. The food is always incredibly delicious - the flavors were rich and complex without being overwhelming. She also has a knack for serving ingredients I'm not fond of in ways I love. Example: she served a delicious eggplant coconut soup and I usually detest eggplant. An excellent chef can prove to any diner that any ingredient can be liked and enjoyed, its just how you prepare it. Chef Siska is also a wonderful joy to be around- very sweet and friendly. This review is based on our EatFeastly dinner on Friday, 3/23/2018. We attended the North Sumatra Journey: Lontong Medan dinner and it was absolutely fantastic!! We had a party of 5 and everyone of us was amazed of the intense flavors of each of the dishes. As explained by Chef Siska (who was awesome!), each of the dishes...Chicken Opar (curry), Beef Rendang, Jackfruit Curry, Egg Sambal (deep fried hard-boiled eggs) and Long Beans/Shrimp/Tempeh are each layered over a bowl of compressed rice cakes that were boiled in banana leaves. This resulted in a combination of flavors and textures that I found extremely incredible. I personally have not had a whole lot of Indonesian food in the past but, after this experience, I am very anxious to try other Indonesian dishes and Siska's other meals. Siska is an outstanding chef and I highly recommend this dinner. As a side note regarding wines, we paired this meal with a German Riesling (2015 Selbach-Oster Riesling Spatlese) and it was perfect. read more

Chilicali is a great experience. We went on a Sunday. It is located on the 2nd floor up a non-descript elevator and feels hidden, sort of special. I don't often find many gems like this in crowded San Francisco. Service is friendly and very pretty--always a plus. The food was excellent. Each course was amazingly aromatic. I was trying to think of a couple of the courses to highlight, but as I wrote I realized I'd listed everything, so suffice to say we enjoyed each dish. It all tasted fresh and honest, like each was a treasured family recipe. The menu was well paced and had great little surprises. There was a galangal (akin to ginger, I learned) tea served after an indonesian take on banjan. I thought this was a really nice way to begin the meal. A Friend invited me to a ChiliCali dinner, last month on February. And I must say it was SUPERB. That night the first 3 courses were Malaysian prepared by Stacy, and the other 3 were Indonesian prepared by Siska. I could go on and describe each course bit by bit, but it's not necessary because the both Siska and Tracy do a great job at that. They also do a great job at cooking and pairing dishes from both cultures that mesh well and delight the senses. It was a smooth transition with very distinctive flavors, that brought out a lot essence in the food. The atmosphere is great for date nights, friends and solo foodies who love a fun experience. That a must try. I also bought 2 of her sauces (the turmeric and the spicy one). Super easy to bring an Indonesian twist to your dish like veggies, fish , meat or whatever you have in your fridge. I attended Siska's Indonesian Seafood Feast collaboration with chefs from Kaki Lima visiting from Boston. It was a fantastic dinner with many courses, all successful. Usually, when a local chef collaborates with a visiting guest chef, you can see the seams and the meal feels a bit disjointed, but this meal came together very nicely. Elevated and refined Indonesian dinners are rare in the U.S., so this was a unique treat for me. I've since returned for a Siska solo dinner, and a collaboration with another local chef. The dishes at those two meals were more rustic and boldly flavored, but equally delicious. Siska comes out to explain dishes between courses, and chats with the diners when she has the chance.
