Just polished off my first Chilango pollo burrito.. won't be my last! Called in my order, 15 min later pulled into the parking lot, a nice worker came out, exchanged the goods & off I went. Easy peasy. Weighed the burrito when I got home - it was massive & I was curious - thing weighed 1.27lbs!! For $6.50!! Plus it came with a couple sides of homemade hot sauce that was nice n spicy. This is great eats! On the weekends, they even have braised lamb as an option. My wife ordered some off menu cheese and onion enchiladas. They weren't what she expected from cheese and onion enchiladas but they were a special request that they fulfilled. Everything else has been excellent including the service. read more

Fresh corn tortillas for the tacos and the gordita had the same fresh taste and texture. It was the first time at the new location and it didn't disappoint. They offer cilantro and onions or for .50 cents extra you can get the tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and sour cream on the taco. I went ala cart on tacos and sides, Wife ordered the gordita dinner. The red and green table sauce were fresh and full of flavor. The red had some kick but still palatable. Beans are authentic and I'm assuming not from a can. I am sorry Chilango Express. I thought I was one of the first cats to review this place. Most of you think I am a Mexican food snob, and in most regards I think I am too. Other than that I am pretty cool. My mom says I have an excellent sense of humor, and I am a pretty snappy dresser. Every Mexican restaurant in MILW disappoints me. Except this place. By far the best corn shells in the city. Like twice as good. I get tacos usually, Carne asada with lime, cilantro, and onions is a good one to try. Nice prices. Fast Service.Greta salsa verde! Close enough to my house to be a solid take-out option, we have been so impressed with the taste and quality of the food from these folks. I lived in the South long enough never to be phased by a restaurant's location - I know the best food often comes from the unlikeliest of spot. If it's gas station home puts people off, that just means more for me. Not only is the food fresh and delicious, but I feel like I could have something different from the menu every time I go and it would take forever to repeat. The prices are spectacular and there aren't a lot of other places on this side of town where I can get lamb and fresh-made corn tortillas. read more

I really wanted to like Chilango Express. I'd heard so many nice things about its gas station location, and I was really looking forward to its new sit-down location in the old Sofia's. But everything about the place is mediocre at best. The food isn't bad. But the menu is extremely limited and the meals are just so so. Salsa tastes like it came out of a jar and chips definitely came out of a bag. And our ever-confused server told us that it was their policy to only serve chips and salsa when a customer requests them and to serve them in small portions to reduce waste. I don't think I'll be returning. I'm sorry to say that there was nothing about the food, atmosphere or service that impressed us in the least. read more

Hands down one of my favorite comfort food joints in the city. I remember when they had a food cart on 27th and National and now they have a newly opened location. I'm really happy for the owner's of this business as they are sharing delicious food with folks around town. Their Quesadillas with hand made tortillas are huge! Deff worth a try. Uhm, yum, yum yum yummy! I used to go to Chilango Express when it was connected to the gas station on 68th St. I have not been there since they opened their new place. Their new place is obviously a lot bigger and has plenty more seating. The customer service was still great if not better. I immediately asked if they still make their corn tortillas fresh in house and the answer was YES! So that immediately made me happy! They are currently a mask required restaurant with a smaller capacity seating due to covid, which is okay with me. I had the Friday fish fry special but had them grill it uncoated, with Nopales (cactus) and mushrooms on top. The fish is steamed then placed in a pan and fried. It is a tilapia which I also don't mind. I have to say this tilapia was super super I mean super juicy and beyond tender! I mean it was so soft and flakey that it basically melted in my mouth! Then with the nopales, mushrooms and some lime, I want to be hungry again writing this just so I can go back and get more! Oh then have it all on a homemade tortilla! I can't stop! I need more! Okay okay, my wife had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and the mole sauce was perfect. I believe it paste based then made fresh at the restaurant. This sauce is probably the best mole I have had in a restaurant in a long time. My wife loved her dish! My son had chicken tacos on homemade tortillas and when he took his first bite his eyes opened so wide and he said, Dad this is so good! Excellent food is all I have to say! Oh and for the veggie eaters they still have plenty of veggies only options like pumpkin flower tacos, corn truffle and more! read more

It's average place to get tacos. Not as much flavor as I was anticipating. Rice was a little stale and beans were chunkier than most other places. I probably won't return since there's a lot of other restaurants in the city that serve better tacos. This review only reflects the 3 taco dinner I purchased. Service and staff was great. My new favorite Mexican restaurant! Hubby and I went last night. Our dinners were amazing. Hubby had a chorizo gordita dinner and I had the pork sope dinner. The pork melts in your mouth! Tamales are bomb . Great serving of salsa for chips and salsa . Fast and nice service

I really wanted to like this food, I really did. But it was barely edible. The yellow rice had no flavor, like actually zero flavor, every bit tastes like lukewarm tap water. The refried beans were very soupy/runny and bland, they weren't thick and delicious as they should be. And then the main dish, the enchiladas, they were dry (even after drenching them in extra red sauce) and on top of that they tasted like the staff used cinnamon as the main, and only, spice. So to summarize, lukewarm tap water rice, bland soupy beans, and cinnamon flavored corn tortillas stuffed with dry chicken. read more

They serve huaraches , taco plates, quesadillas and tortas ($5 each) just like the cart. But they also have gorditas, burritos and tamales too. Great food. Very clean. Nice folks. Did I say great food? Some awesome tacos. The house made tortillas make a big difference. The beans tasted like my mom or even grandma made them... MMMMM! Both salas, mild and hot had great flavor. Not a quesadilla fan, but my daughters, ordered with pork, was the best I've had in a restaurant. Crisp and well prepared. The Food was good, the service could definitely be improved though. Cold drinks were warm, and sitting at the bar to eat, with no bartenders or an operating bar was kind of weird. This is probably a much better place to get carry out then it is to eat in their place but it won't stop me from going back in the future. Give it a shot if you haven't tried it yet. read more

Weekends have roast lamb and goat which can be in the tacos or burritos. I love lamb and the thought of a lamb burrito which I have never ever saw before would be sampled. It was very different and good. I posted an up close view of the inside to give you an idea of what it looks like. The amazing chicken and pepper tamale is not always there as I found out, I got pork today, see picture. I will have to call first to see if the amazing tamales are in on a given day, found this out the hard way today. I called and asked if they had the chicken and pepper after getting the pork one and I was told not today, what a shame they bait and switched me. It's only my second visit so I don't know all the specials, tamales are not even on the menu. read more

The basicness of the building is reflected in the amazingly cheap prices. The foundations of the business is reflected in the delicious food and family-based business model. My wife has a special love for amazing Mexican food / sketchy location combination. While the location isn't exactly sketchy - it's in a gas station in West Allis - it is an interesting location in which to house some of the best Mexican food in the 414!! Chilango's roots are in its food trucks, and it still shows. It's menu is simple and concise, the food comes out fast, and it really shows that they appreciate every order from every customer. The freshness of everything here really shows.They are still hand-making tortillas for each and every order! The chicken here is some of the best I have ever had. Throw away your preconceived notions of gas station food! Chilango is fantastic!! This place is getting really popular and can get packed at any time since it's so small. Be prepared to either wait or eat in your car. As quaint as this place is, I'm ready for them to bust out of here and settle down in a larger place. We'll be there when they do! read more

This is my second visit and their food is delicious. My husband had steak tacos with lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream, I had Chile relleno stuffed with cheese. There food is all homade and the red sauce has a pinch of cinnamon so very fragrant and delicious!!!! We also had the flan for dessert. Had a strong pregnancy craving for a burrito and boy did I pick the right place. The beef burrito was seasoned really uniquely and with a ton of flavor and their green sauce is literally the best sauce I've ever gotten from a Mexican restaurant (a bit salty but on the burrito it made for an amazingly addictive meal, each bite better than the last). Wasn't a huge fan of the pico de gallo style salsa with their chips but my burrito more than made up for it. I'll be back when the next craving hits!! read more

The food was fantastic!!! I heard about this place from several people. I had to stop by on the weekend because I heard they have roasted lamb as a meat choice AND you can buy it by the pound. I wanted to try a few things so I ordered a chicken tamale, lamb huarache, al Pastor taco and Chile relleno with their red sauce (super spicy). The lamb was so tender and moist absolutely phenomenal! The al Pastor taco was on point. The Chile relleno was perfectly done and the red sauce was Hot Hot Hot!!! Next time I will try it with mole. The tamale was wonderful. I can't wait to try all their tamales. The place is small but they have several tables to dine in. The staff was very pleasant. Been here a few times fresh homemade tortilla. Well seasoned meats chicken, beef lamb will be back.

This is my favorite Mexican place in my neighborhood. The food is so great, and I am never disappointed by anything I try. I love the homemade corn tortillas and the salsa and chips are great too! But the best thing of all is the award winning Chilango's margarita that I highly recommend trying. The staff is friendly, and the prices are great. I have no complaints and stop in and eat at least once a week sometimes more. The staff even knows we don't need menus anymore and know what our regular order is. Always a great time when we stop in! Besides the amazing authentic food, the staff is sincerely warm and friendly and the restaurant is consistently clean and welcoming. I'm a huge fan of the barbacoa shredded beef even though I tend to order the pork most other places. The tortillas are freshly hand made and they fry up the huaraches (like a tortilla but thicker) when you order. The red sauce has the right amount of heat and the green sauce is milder but delicious too. Don't let the fact that it shares a building with a gas station put you off, I've heard a lot of people say it's kept them from trying it. It's probably why they can afford to keep prices so low. Be sure to tip in cash! Many smaller places don't have a good way to get card tips to their employees. read more

You can't miss this building on the corner, with the bright paint and awnings. Inside the atmosphere is simpler, understated, and comfortable with a great background of Latin music. Warm welcome and promptly seated. This is a straight forward menu, with more unique and authentic choices. Chips and salsa to start, very good and not so much to leave you full. We had a burrito and enchiladas, both were great and generous portions. Mole sauce was nicely balanced and the rice perfectly cooked. Margaritas were solid and standard beer selection. Amazing tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, burritos and then there are the foods not often found at other Mexican restaurants like Sopes, Huaraches, real Gorditas, etc. All fresh and just fantastic! On top of those offerings how about adding poblanos or pumpkin flowers as toppings! And... on weekends get lamb by the pound with fresh tortillas and enjoy a truly authentic weekend meal with the family. One complaint... you have fresh tortillas, but then serve run of the mill store type chips. Step it up and serve fresh chips and this place is an 11 out of 10. read more
