Ever have an evening where you just cannot possibly make dinner? I was having such an evening. I had gotten all the ingredients out of my refrigerator and cabinet to make dinner, stood and looked at it, and then put it all back. Because, like a prime number--i could not even. I left the house and wasn't even seeking dinner. I decided to do a Target run for some things I needed and thought maybe I could find something quick and easy there but nothing was speaking to me. I finally brought up Yelp and found Taco Stop was right across the street. Thank goodness. I stopped by, grabbed three chicken tacos for myself and three for my husband and an order of chips and guacamole. The chips were house made, the guacamole was flavorful (it did have tomatoes in it which isn't my favorite) and the chicken tacos with onions and cilantro were tasty. The dining room was crisp and clean. It's more of a fast casual stop so was happy to be picking up to go but that said, their dining room is clean should you choose to dine there. The service was efficient and most importantly--they cooked me dinner (thank goodness!). Get to it! read more

I ordered the burrito - made it vegetarian by subbing the meat with avocado. The refried beans in the burrito were delicious and comforting and was the best part of the burrito. I wish the rice was more flavorful and it was overpowered by the beans and cheese. I tried the medium spice green salsa which was good and given on the side. The tortilla was nice and crispy. Taco Stop has taken a dramatic turn in its customer service. Our last three pickups have had an issue: The first time, the order was incomplete. I must say that I called and they made up for the missing item. The second time, I called to scheduled my order for a specific time. The female on the other side basically repeated the time of my request and hung up. No etiquette or anything. Finally, when my husband picked up our order, he was facing the counter, while the staff on the other side of the counter and kitchen were on their phones or standing and just not acknowledging him. It took them a long time to finally assist him. They were not doing anything but be on their phones the entire time. My husband came home feeling mad and even disappointed. We come here a lot! The food is still good, but if that's how the staff behaves around customers, I can't help to wonder about their standards in the kitchen. We've been loyal customers for years, but that ending now. I will admit I was skeptical because of the name, but I stopped in to try them out with my new-to-me Mexican restaurant order of chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, rice, and beans. The rice wasn't the traditional color, but the grain of rice was famliar and the flavor of it was excellent! The refried beans were as expected and also good, and the enchiladas exceeded my expectations. I was very happy with my dinner and the value. I will dine at a Taco Stop again. Ordered here all the time for my family it used to be good. Recently we had been giving old moldy taco shells. That is disappointing and dangerous considering my kids can get sick. Since my family loves this place so much we went back and kindly let the staff know about the shells. They did nothing but called the so called " owner" and accused use of lying. Ambience probably seems authentic to the elm grove people but not to us! We will not be going here ever again. So sad considering it once was actually decent. read more

It was my first time going. The food is good, but the customer service is shitty. The girl behind the counter doesn't seem to care about the job or about getting orders right. When I went, the place wasn't busy yet, and she still got my order wrong. I ordered a torta with 2 sides, like she helped me pick a side and everything. I ordered a Horchata right after then paid. Like, did she forget right after that? I ordered a meal. I got my food in a brown paper bag and found out when I left that my order was incomplete. Great first stop here! The prices went up compared to the website ($3/taco) but they were all great. We tried a variety of hard/soft shell tacos and they all had great flavors. They fried their own hard shell corn tortilla and it was super crispy. The chips and salsa are a bit pricey but you get plenty to share! Salsa roja is pretty spicy and the mild tomatillo is almost sweet. Very mild but flavorful. Helpful staff who were really nice and dropped off our order at our table. Muy deliciosa I've got a thing for chilaquiles. This is now my second Stop for the chilaquiles but I could eat these every day. I fact, the order is so huge it covers me for two meals. SO YUMMY! I got takeout of three corn tortilla tacos - two steak and one chicken. The steak was my favorite -- it was so flavorful. The chicken was still tasty, but a little dry. Had lunch here today for the first time and was pleased! We ate our meal at the restaurant. Service was very solicitous and friendly. If dining in, you order at a counter, pay first, and the food is brought out to you later; if dining to-go, it's just a straightforward transaction. We had the enchiladas with salsa roja (barbacoa and carnitas), and let me tell you, they were quite spicy! Great for clearing out your sinuses. You get three nicely-sized enchiladas, a small pile of shredded lettuce, and a small thin sliver of avocado. We added on the rice and beans on the side. Really enjoyed the level of spice, and the rice had corn in it and was very nice and tender and offset the spice well. The refried beans were a little soupy but really tasty. My only reason for not giving a full 5 stars is that the ambience is really geared more towards a fast lunch crowd, especially takeout; the plates we received for our dine-in experience were the disposable style, and the rice and beans sides were delivered to our table in the plastic disposable takeout containers. There is no waitstaff to speak of, so this sort of made sense, but after receiving the meals I kind of felt like we should've just gotten it to-go instead. So from an ambience perspective, I'd probably choose to get takeout here in the future instead of dine-in. And it's a little pricey for what you get, but I think that's the case everywhere you go these days. The toppings for tacos being a la carte was a little off-putting so I automatically scanned right past those to the entrees instead. And for the price of the meal, they could've given a quarter of an avocado rather than the skimpy thin slice, but I guess the rent for a restaurant in Elm Grove means you have to cut costs somewhere. I waver between three and four stars. A step above Taco Bell. Have had a tummy ache on more than one occasion after eating here. The spray cleaner they use in the dining room is overwhelming and nauseating. Most dishes are good, but not great. It's expensive for what it is. read more

I've had Taco Stop on my list for awhile and my husband goes quite often for lunch with his co-workers. Figured now would be a great time to try them while I was working from home due to the pandemic. They don't offer a combination plate, but we ordered enough different items to make our own. The steak tacos were really good, but maybe just a little too much cilantro. The refried beans were really tasty. Overall, I thought the food was pretty solid and I'm sure even better if you get it fresh. I thought I would do lunch here today because I was off and they were open, not open on Sundays. This space has been a few different restaurants but a taco spot seems like a good option so far. I have eaten at the other location and I liked it but I noticed the menu as you get to the register now had carnitas in the meat options. Looking over the menu as I wait for my turn I decided on the Al pastor taco $2.75, carnitas taco $2.75 authentic style and the $3 dinner beans and rice so I pull out a $10 and place my order. When I placed my $8.50 order I was charged $11.04 for some reason which didn't match the menu prices at all that I just looked at WTF. The rice was white with corn in it and super boring. The beans were loose but seasoned nicely. The red hot sauce was tasty with some heat and that's how I'm going to save the boring rice, I'm going to mix the beans, rice and hot sauce which made it better. The tacos were nicely stuffed with the Al pastor and carnitas meat and both were tasted before I put hot sauce all over them. The Al pastor was pretty good but the carnitas was my fave with the citrus flavor finish. The tacos were pretty good with the fresh cilantro onion flavors playing well off the meat and hot sauce flavors on the corn tortillas. Overall the tacos were better than average but I probably will not be back because the register doesn't match the menu prices three feet from it on the wall. read more

This is my go to for tacos in the burbs. I love their options and ability to eat them right, not like the gringo I am. Guac is great, but they have increased the price and decreased the size. The food here is pretty good, middle of the road Mexican fare. The chicken flautas as were great and the chicken nachos were a nice large portion. The prices are a bit higher than comparable places, I'd say 20% higher. Some items like tacos are $3 where other places would be $2 and the entrees don't include the rice and beans, that's another $3. read more

Feeling a rumble from hunger, I decided to stop in for a quick (1) taco to go for the next series of events, since I already stopped at Subpuria just up the road, for a planned late lunch as I was on the go. This is definitely not fast food, as it is prepared as ordered and made with attention to detail for the customer, so please be prepared to wait just a little. I think this is going to be my new FAVORITE taco spot. Had the steak tacos and absolutely loved them. Authentic style paired with the green salsa. Very good! Only reason for a 4 Star is on the saltiness of the tacos. My review might change in the future as I continue to go back but defiantly a fan and when I want Mexican and need a taco fix I'm coming here. My wife had the chicken US Style tacos and devoured them so that's a good sign. My kids had the chicken chimichangas and loved them as well. My only thought on those would be shredded chicken vs chopped. But that's a personal preference. Very clean environment, busy when it came to dinner time (great sign) and lots of seating. They have Apple Pay which is a plus in my view. NO BEER which is a bummer but hopefully they get a beer licenses. read more

This place is really cute inside and you get in line and order at the register. My wife had 2 steak tacos, I had a steak and a Barbados chili and we split an order order of chips and spicy salsa. The steak was fantastic. The best steak tacos and steak chimis we've had in forever. Their tortilla chips are fantastic . Still warm and Super thin and crispy and nice and salty. They lose a star for getting my wife's order wrong the first time, but they get half a star back for promptly fixing it. This area (ElmBrook) needed an authentic taco joint like this, so I'm glad to see it open up. First off, I love the branding and over all design of this place. It's new but it's clean, well organized and open. The menu selection is expansive without being exhaustive. Lots of options for whatever mood. On to the food. I got the authentic style tacos (al pastor and barbacoa) which is soft corn shells, cilantro and onions. Coupled with a glass bottle Coke. Boom. All you need in life. Flavor and quality wise these are on point with any of my favorite taco places around Milwaukee like Mazorca and Taqueria Buenavista. Where they fall short is the quantity. I feel like a properly filled taco should be one where you can fold the shell and just have the shell touch at the top (if that makes sense). These were pretty light. I usually order 3 tacos at joints like this and by the second one I'm getting full. By the third I'm completely content. After my second one here, I felt like I needed 2-3 more. Now if the tacos were maybe $.75 less per tacos, the filling might be justified. All in all I'm happy this place is here and I'm going to be back real soon and want to support them. Food was OK. Chorizo taco was the standout of the three types that I ordered. Others seemed dry. I understand that food costs are rising and that times are difficult. And I fully support my local restaurants and their ownership. However, I was surprised at the 15% upcharge due to rising meat prices. I completely understand that margins are small, however this needs to be posted in plain view (I did not see a sign at the registers) so that customers are aware of this BEFORE they order. I've added avocado for all my tacos at $0.75 each and I think it would be even better without it. Elote- corn covered with cheese was so good and large portion. Small quesadilla was good too.
