The ice cream shop in the restaurant.
Steven T.

I have driven past these restaurant/ice cream shops and I have only done the ice creme part because I like those assorted ice cream bars once in a while so I decided to try the food. The menu is Mexican/chicken/sandwiches with sides basically and a huge cold treats menu on the entire back side. I decided that I would do the two piece chicken with two sides and an ice creme bar. I will admit that at first sight it screamed cafeteria looking food but lets see what we have here. The drum was on the dry side and bland, the thigh was a little moister so I tasted the skin by it self and it's bland not seasoned at all. The Mac and cheese was cooked to mush in a soupy bland cheese sauce that didn't really taste like anything and just texture for the most part. The biscuits were dry and on the hard side, hockey puck style. Grilled onions and a pepper was on the side with six warm corn tortillas so I guess I'm making like chicken tacos with geilled veggies which is what I did. Pretty much I ate the chicken/corn tortillas and threw the the rest away. The best part of the meal was the tequila ice cream bar with almond slivers, cold/tasty with a thick sticky texture and not at all like ice an cream texture. I'm not saying that the food was horrible but it was average bland cafeteria style unseasoned food and with that said I will stick to the cold treats because I have had them all over and enjoy them better.

I came back to try the grilled chicken and it is officially my favorite. Forget the tacos, get the grilled chicken. It's going to my new go to. I got the 3 piece ($7.95) which comes with 2 sides and tortillas. The 3 piece came with a leg, breast, and a thigh that connected to a wing. This was more than enough food for 1. I ended up sharing my platter. I choose the french fries and corn for my sides. The corn was soft and not your typical corn on the cob and the french fries were seasoned and crispy, just how I like em. Definitely try the grilled chicken, it is called chicken palace for a reason.

Absolutely delicious... When they start serving in-house I am praying they have good margaritas!

Amazing Mexican food. Tons of places along Sunset. This one is the best. The nachos, enchiladas and tacos are all amazing.

Chicken is in the name for a reason. The tacos and tamales are fantastic too. Great food and reasonable prices.

The fillings were all delicious, especially the cactus and rice was well seasoned. I was a bit disappointed that the burrito wasn't hand held when I ordered togo and was more enchilada style. It's set up to order at the counter, they give you a number, and then bring out your drinks and food. When we arrived we were greeted by a super friendly staffer. Since it was our first time she explained the process, told us we could open up a tab, which allowed us to get drinks and guac while we decided on the rest of our order. Our drinks, a Margarita and Paloma were both very good. Generous pours, with interesting seasoned salt on the glasses. They had brought us a small complimentary basket of chips, with some Salsa. The Guacamole that we ordered came with another batch of warm chips. The Guac was was good (not great). We like it a bit chunkier, and it didn't taste "just made fresh". After a short wait, our food came out. We got a "Uno Dos Tres", with Empanada, Tamale, and Enchilada. Each of those items was very good. The favorite, Beef Empanada was larger than we are used to, deep fried?, with some guajillo cream that was delicious. The Carnitas was also very good too. It came it hot, very tender, and a good portion (took home leftovers). Throughout the entire meal, the staff/servers checked on us, got us additional napkins, and some waters. Very attentive for having counter ordering. With the exception of the Guac, the meal was excellent. Definitely come back again.

Just went there yesterday, 3/23/26, as it is one of my regular choices for good local Mexican food…read more I feel pretty certain they made some improvements to their food. First, the salsa and chips were improved. The salsa, both mild and medium, had a very fresh taste to them. I was impressed by the chunky medium salsa the most. Secondly, their accompanying chips were darker and thicker. They also had a distinct roasted corn flavor which went well with the salsa. Neither the salsa or the chips were drowned out by the other. The thicker chip stood up to the rigorous dipping I gave each one. Third, the refried beans they served with my chimichanga dinner were above the average pale looking serving. They were darker and nicely seasoned. I'd go back again just for them. I wish they served a little dish with these beans along with the salsa and chips. Fourth, only a one star demerit for their saggy bottom bench seats in my booth. Fifth, thank you for having hot water in the very clean Men's room for washing my hands.

I'm hopeful they resolved those issues by now. At any rate, here were some photos of the food we enjoyed back then, as I did love their chimichangas and really loved this restaurant back in the day.
