I reached out to Chilango for a small catering order (150 tacos) and they were so easy to work with. I was able to do half corn and half tortilla and they put the cilantro, onion, lime, and salsa on the side. They put the meat in the shell and wrapped them in 3s. Which was perfect because the tacos were still warm when delivered. I was able to get delivery to Muskego for a retirement party which made it so much easier. The tacos were a huge hit! I would highly recommend Chilango if you were you looking for catering! read more

The asada enchilada dinner is amazing! So flavorful! I'm spoiled for any other Mexican restaurant in town. Elena was our server and she was very kind and informative. Also, the decor made me feel like I was down in the southwest, and when I walk out, I expect to be in the desert, but I know I'll be in Wisconsin. I almost forgot you have to try the Horchata it is delightful! read more

This place is delicious! Great service! Great food! We drove around to find Mexican food and we were so pleased to find this place!

Had been on my wish list and finally went. And wow, just wow. Very friendly service and some of the absolute tastiest Mexican food I've had around town. We went for it. Lengua and carne asada tacos, the house special with beef, chorizo and nopales. Server brought a sample of the weekend lamb. Oh, and the tortillas were hand pressed. Every single bit was delicious. Everyone ate too much because we didn't want to stop. Will go back, no question at all!!! read more

Simply the best! I have always ordered by takeout, but this time we ate in the restaurant and it was wonderful! The service, the atmosphere, all great! read more

This is the first time we've eaten here and we will definitely be back. The corn tortillas are huge and amazing. The flour tortillas were super thin and excellent. It seems like both were homemade. We had the mole enchilada, an enormous pastor burrito and a chili go dinner. All 3 were excellent and the rice and beans were both nosiest and juicy too. Service was a major drawback in this visit. We waited about 15 minutes to get our dirty plates cleared and for the check and we never got either one so eventually we went up to the cash register and paid our bill. They weee moderately busy but had 2 servers. Food was a 5. Service was a 2 so I'll round up to a 4 because the food was that good. read more

Totally love this place. It's some of the most flavorful Mexican food that I've had locally. The portions are off the hook and the price is super reasonable. It's our "go to" for local Mexican food. Chile Relleno & Pork Burrito read more

This was my first time having Mexican food since I moved to Milwaukee. I saw Chilango Express on a list of the 10 best Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee, so I decided to start with them. After eating here, I will say if this is the best Milwaukee has to offer, then that is really sad. I have previously lived in Chicago and San Diego, so I have high expectations of Mexican food, and this just did not do it for me. I did order delivery. The tacos were packaged very poorly; they were partially wrapped in foil, and the liquid had leaked out all over the bag and the napkins in the bag. The liquid had also made both tacos very soggy. Ironically, the chicken was incredibly dry. I'm not sure how such dry chicken could produce so much liquid leaking everywhere. I wish I had taken a picture. The horchata tasted like someone dumped a ton of perfume into it. I couldn't take more than a couple sips. Giving two stars because the flan was good. Overall, I really feel like I wasted my money. read more

Had a fantastic experience at Chilango Express! The staff were so kind and accommodating, the restaurant was clean, the prices are great, and the food is delicious! What more can you ask for?! Our waitress was great, she helped us pick our meals with great recommendations. We had horchata to drink and picked the Gordita, tacos, and sope for our meals. The chips and salsa came complementary which were delicious and fresh. The meat on the tacos (carne asada and chicken) were both great. Their steak is awesome. It is cooked very well so it is kind of crunchy in a delicious way. The chicken was also moist. I had the sope with carne asada and it was perfection. So fresh, balanced, and delicious (especially with the green sauce added on top). The price is just a bonus too because everything was very reasonably priced. I was impressed with this place and will definitely be back again. read more

Amazing Mexican food without having to go deep into the south side of Milwaukee. My parents showed me this place, and it's now the go-to spot. I feel safe inside and outside of the building. A lot of parking via street or there own parking lot. If you can't handle real Mexican food with real Mexican seasoning, maybe try tacobell. This place is the REAL DEAL! Chicken and steak tacos, cilantro and homemade green sauce. I made my leftovers into nachos and they are phenomenal reheated too! 10/10! Always have great customer service also. Try a Margarita and tip well! read more

How do you make the best tacos in the city even better??? You open a new location, with more seating, a parking lot and add A BAR! Chilango's sit down location is finally open, a mere 2 blocks down the way. The inside is simple, but clean and inviting. Did I mention there's a bar?? The food is still amazing (and cheap!), the tortillas are still freshly made, the orange salsa is still fire and the folks working are still the friendliest around. All the good stuff is still here, just with a bar! Had a great lunch here with coworkers today and I know that I'll continue to be a frequent visitor because their food is great and they now have A BAR! Did I mention that they added a bar? read more

Chilango Express - Enchiladas and one of the best taco dinners I've ever eaten - Mexican Near Me - West Allis, Wisconsin

Updated: 3/23- new location is just as delicious. Service is a little bumpy but they are trying hard. The tacos with their amazing house made tortillas were delicious- one pork, one chicken, one steak with rice & beans. You can have them traditional with onion & cilantro or ask for the tacos special to have them with lettuce, tomato and cheese. Margaritas were large, refreshing and on point. Previous review: Don't let the fact that they are attached to a gas station stop you. This crew works hard. I watched them making their own tortillas the entire time. Muy buena comida. Me gusta mucho. Mas por favor! This place is busy with only a handful of tables but we were able to nab one. The food was delicious, made to order and came out quickly. We mixed it up a little and ordered ala carte: chicken enchilada with green sauce (the green sauce is mild here and the red is hot), steak tacos and chicken taco, rice and beans. Nom nom nom. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. Can't wait to work through this menu read more

The food was amazing! I haven't been able to find a place with a really good homemade mole and they've got it. We will definitely be back! read more

Vegan options galore! I had mushroom, cactus, and pumpkin flower tacos and was so impressed! Well seasoned and a good level of spice. My friend had an asada torta and she was not disappointed either! Do I always eat at the gas station? Sometimes. Will I do it again? Definitely. This spot is pretty small but the tables turn over pretty quickly so you can likely get a spot if you want to dine in. The menu is pretty comprehensive and likely to have what you're looking for. You can customize your tacos to your liking. I highly recommend the chorizo. Be careful of the red sauce, it will definitely kick things up a notch. Service was extremely quick - explains the Express in the name - and very friendly. The prices are also extremely reasonable. You can't really go wrong with a full dinner plate for $9. Likely not the fancy dinner spot you're going to take a date or special occasion, but if you want something quick and delicious you should definitely stop by. read more

I searched taco restaurants they popped up. I read the reviews, thought it'd be awesome. I wasn't impressed at all.

Just had carry out from here and what a great experience. Service was awesome. The food fantastic and they did everything right.

Best mexican food in Milwaukee, in my opinion. We come here for the menudo on Sunday mornings. My only complaint would be the sign prohibiting Concealed Carry, but other than that top notch. Also, lengua is fantastic and so is the lamb. read more

Best tostadas and best seasoned pork and chorizo I've ever had. Service is quick and friendly. Regular customer for life.

Yum yum yum the tostada (steak) was truly amazing! The staff was so nice and food was hot and fresh. I can't wait to order again!

Chilango Express is one of our favorite no-frills Mexican eateries. You can always count on simple, flavorful dishes with fantastic prices - oh... and a really nice (and big) margarita to boot! On our latest visit, I had the Chilango dinner for the first time. It had steak, chorizo, cactus and poblano peppers and was very tasty. The size of the dish allowed me to take away enough for a substantial lunch the next day - and it reheated very well. My wife was looking for a lighter meal, without the rice and beans, so she got two tostadas ala carte and really enjoyed them. We both enjoyed the margaritas! These are some of the largest "house" margaritas we've been served. I know that you can find places that serve a monster fish-bowl sized margarita, but these were just the regular ones. And some of the best tasting, as well - not just the largest. The value for the money is what really makes this a five-star restaurant. Granted, we were there just before six, in time for happy hour pricing, but still... two great-tasting meals (one with leftovers for lunch the next day) with two large margaritas for around $25?!? A deal like that is hard to beat! If you like Mexican food, this is a place you should try. read more

Excellent service and great Mexican food. Would recommend this restaurant. Chicken tacos are great.

Total hole in the wall authentic Mexican restaurant that just so happens to be in a gas station. You can fill up two tanks at once. If you crave a delicious burrito and care more about the taste than the decor, this is your place! I had the chicken burrito with extra avocado and a side of guacamole for lunch and loved every bite. However, the red salsa it came with stole the show! It had just the right heat (meaning a good amount) and a smokey depth of flavor. I'll be back! read more

I stopped in for the first time a few nights ago. The menu is limited and the space is small, since it shares a building with a gas station. There are two or three tables for dining in, but this place was intended for carry-out service. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas and tamales make up the menu. I decided on a chicken enchilada dinner with salsa verde ($8.50). The salsa verde is mild, while the salsa roja is hot. I prefer the flavor of salsa verde without the heat so this worked well for me. The rice and beans had nice texture and good flavor. The shredded chicken was tender and also had a nice flavor. The enchiladas themselves were not smothered with cheese and sauce. Instead the cheese was lightly sprinkled on top and the salsa verde was lightly poured over, and I like that approach. It made the dish look made-to-order versus out of a large batch for the masses. The dinner also came with a side salad of lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced avocado. The tomatoes and avocado looked and tasted fresh. The lettuce, not so much. I thought the avocado was a nice touch. I think the food came out in about 5 minutes, may a bit longer. I have other options closer to my house for Mexican food, but this is one I will work into the rotation, and I definitely recommend that you pay them a visit. The food is good and the prices are fair. The venue is small and unappealing, but it is fine for what it is, "a take-out food joint." It's not the best Mexican food I've had in Milwaukee, so 4 stars versus 5, but it is definitely good enough to hold it's own against the others. read more

I checked this place out with some co-workers for lunch. As previous reviewers have commented this is an unassuming place connected to a gas station. Don't let the size of the place fool you though. They are cooking up some big flavors and make their own tortillas on site (you can hear the thunk of the tortilla press). I wanted order one of everything, but restrained myself knowing I had to go back to work and they have this no snoozing on the job policy. I ordered the Hurache with steak. It is a large corn tortilla stuffed with beans, then grilled, topped with meat, sauce, cheese, onion and cilantro. So good. You have to get there early cause they get super busy. My only complaint is that the paying situation. You order at the counter, they bring your food out and then once you are done you go back up to the counter to pay. Once it gets busy, then you have to wait to pay your bill. Would make more sense if you paid when you ordered. read more

I love this place. Fair prices, friendly service, and a good if small menu. The margaritas are good too. They get all the basics right, and their homemade fresh tortillas are the best in town. Dinging them a star because their chips and salsa game needs work- the chips we got were tortilla "rounds", clearly from a bag of chips. The checkout process is unlike I've ever seen before too- the two times we've visited since their move from 68th and Beloit, they never left a bill at our table, and it was up to us to guess that we just walk up to the front counter when we're done, tell them where we were sitting and what we ate, and then they rang our order up at that time. I'd like to see them go to the usual system of bringing a bill to the table when you're done. Otherwise, probably my favorite Mexican food in the metro area. read more

Fantastic authentic food, ordered tamales and tostadas to go (I live nearby) and they were great. The tostadas were just like my grandmother used to make. The place looked nice but I was only there to pick up, the staff was friendly. Ordered from here again the next day it was that good. read more

The staff was nice. The chicken tamales were good. The veggie tacos were missing something. The steak tacos were better...just very gamey. The rice and beans tasted so strongly of garlic that I couldn't finish them. Salsa was yummy. Chips weren't super fresh. Just polished off my first Chilango pollo burrito.. won't be my last! Called in my order, 15 min later pulled into the parking lot, a nice worker came out, exchanged the goods & off I went. Easy peasy. Weighed the burrito when I got home - it was massive & I was curious - thing weighed 1.27lbs!! For $6.50!! Plus it came with a couple sides of homemade hot sauce that was nice n spicy. Chicken was tender & flavorful, beans creamy, and rice was legit. What more could ya want? read more
