I had a great massage there along with a facial and it was everything I imagined and more. I also had my make-up done along with a hair cut. The make-up artist was Karen, and she's no longer there, but she did a great job. The hair cut was beautiful and styled wonderfully; however, I had a hard time styling it that great myself and had to go back to receive more distinct layers. I've been coming to Chikara for over three years now. I've had a few different stylists, and have always had courteous service and, with one exception, great hairstyles that take into account my hair type (fine, thin, and somewhat naturally wavy/curly) as well as my lifestyle (busy) and styling ability (very poor). They carry bumble & Bumble products; I'm a big fan of the Curl Conscious and Thickening lines. The prices are a bit high, especially for their spa services, but it's worth it to me to have hair that actually gets compliments. read more

Horrible place! All the services are overpriced and poorly done. My hair was hacked off when I told the incompetent hair dresser to hardly trim any off. I was trying to get a perm and my hair turned out looking more like dreadlocks. The underneath part of my hair was burnt off. I have sections that are only 4 inches long!! I'm 5' 7'' and my hair was down to my waist. That is saying something!! When I went back to get a refund the dresser talked to me very rudely. I had made an appointment and had to wait for 30 minutes for the manager to show up!! She was very rude to me and refused a refund. She talked down to me and I was very upset. This place is awful. This was once a very nice salon, but it seems like over time the good staff left and we're replaced with people of lesser talent. The stylists seem to be young, inexperienced and poorly trained. Based on that the prices here are extremely high. When you pay a lot for a haircut you expect to have a well-trained stylist who knows what they are doing. You won't find that here. read more

Went in to get a trim and partial color for a follow up visit. The girl must of been having a bad day because she really screwed up my hair. Next day I went back to get it fixed, or at least the sides to be evened out. Apparently that task was also too difficult. So I went to another Salon. I wanted to make sure it was not me. The other salon was able to even my hair out pointed out the many mistakes and I will just have to let the color mishap grow out. My recommendation is to not get your hair done there before an important event...just in case you need to go in for a recut/recolor a few times. Plus, haircuts and products are not guaranteed. I had previously had my eyebrows waxed at Chikara and had a great experience with that- so I figured this would be a great place to have my hair cut. I have curly hair and called to make an appointment and asked if the receptionist would recommend a stylist who had good experience with curly hair and all he said was "Well all our stylists went to beauty school and can cut any type of hair..." I understand this, but generally stylists will sometimes be known if they are good at cutting very curly hair, which initially was sign that I should not have made an apt. He scheduled me with a woman named Deja (unsure of spelling..) I showed up to my appointment five minutes early and was told to sit in the waiting area. After ten minutes of waiting I figured out who my stylist was. She had finished blowdrying her clients hair and was applying product to the hair, so I figured she was almost done. She ended up being almost 25 minutes late. She put about ten different products into her previous clients hair, and then afterwards when they got up and I thought it was finally time for me to get my hair cut, she proceeded to lead her client over to the products wall and try and sell her stuff, none of which which her client bought. Even though I was sitting 10 feet away from them, Deja never once acknowledged me or apologized for the wait. Finally when her client left she came over to me and brought me to her chair. I've been to salons before that when the stylist runs just 20 min late they will offer me a discount or something to apologize for the wait, Deja didn't do this. She tried to sell me a keratin mask, and even after I said no thank you she continued to sell it. She washed and cut my hair, although she literally MISSED my a huge front section. I asked her if she had missed the spot and she said "I don't think so", but by this point I'd already decided to get a followup cut at my favorite salon in Portland so I didn't care. She then asked if I was sure I wanted her to blow out my hair... she wanted to let it air dry to see how it looked. I want a hair stylist who can cut curly hair and not need to let it air dry to make sure it looks good. She tried to sell me like five different products at the end of the cut, which I declined. I left feeling very disappointed with my cut, and overall experience at Chikara. read more

I recently came back to see Renee to get another wax and gave their hair stylists a shot. The wax was even better than last time! It was quicker too, took maybe 10-15 minutes and I hardly felt a thing. I'm seriously starting to enjoy going to my wax appointments instead of fear them. I can't remember the hairstylists name but she was so sweet! She was very patient with me and looked at all the pictures I had so she could get an idea of exactly what I wanted. After being jaded from previous hairstylists elsewhere, I was initially nervous, but the finishing product was exactly what I wanted! And she even curled my hair for free! I can't wait to go back to Chikara again, and I'll definitely be bringing some friends :) read more

I go to Jenne for hair color and cut. She has transformed my hair from dry disgusting hay to fantastic shiny healthy locks that everyone wants. I am not kidding about Jenne, she is talented and knowledgeable. I am picky and my hair is curly and long and dark. It takes a miracle to please me when it comes to my hair. Go see Jenne if you want even and beautiful color, a great attitude, and an up to date style. Catherine is my go-to chic for waxing and she is also very knowledgeable,and gentle. Waxing can be awkward, but she is very easy going and has a great attitude, never awkward, but more like catching up w a friend or something! I have been all over and she was the best waxer, even with my thick hair, unfortunately I can't go to her because I moved away. read more

I'm from out of town but was having my wedding in Eugene. Made an appointment two weeks before the wedding for a Friday to have my nails done for the wedding. The place is difficult to find especially with all the construction. By the time I figured out which side of oak way it was at and found parking with all the construction, I was 15 mins late. They said they had crossed me off. So here I am a day before my wedding and they told me sorry, not much we can do for you and left my hanging. I get it, it was my fault I was late but their "tough shit approach" was what got them the one star. Won't be coming here again or recommending it to anyone. read more

I only came here to get my eyebrows waxed, so I can't speak on Chikara's other services. However, I had a great experience! The salon is very clean and well put together and the staff are super friendly and kind. Kendra was my aesthetician. She was very detailed and careful and I never felt like she was rushing to "get things done." I'm very particular about trying new places to get my eyebrows waxed, so I'm glad that this was a positive experience.They seem to have a lot of availability as I made my appointment only 20 minutes before. This place is SO unprofessional!!! I went there for over a year-and it was CONSTANTLY a mess. My appointments were written down wrong (so they acted like I was late even though I showed up at the time on my card) and I was frequently not scheduled for enough time so I always had to make ANOTHER appointment to get everything done. Well foolishly I started going back last year. The first two appointments were great. The 3rd appointment they called the day before and asked if I could change my appointment time. I wasn't busy so it was OK -but still pretty flakey.On the 4rd they switched me to a different stylist AND changed my appointment to just a cut instead of cut and color. Luckily there was someone else there to do my color-but again flakey. So yesterday they call to remind me of my appointment at 11am-except the card they gave me says 10am! but it turns out that it didn't matter because less than 2 hours before my appointment they called to cancel!!!! I love Chikara, I wouldn't go anywhere else in Eugene. I've been going for almost 3 years. I get my hair cut there, and highlighted (I recommend Loubai, she's great). I also get waxed there and I don't know who Liz C. waxed with, but from my experience they're all qualified. I also get my nails done there sometimes but their prices are too high when it comes to nails. Everyone at Chikara is friendly and their service is great. Highly recommended. read more

I have used Chikara Salon in the past for eyebrow waxing and facials. I have had some really good experiences in that regard. Recently my hairdresser moved away and I needed to find someone else, so decided to try Chikara. High price, high quality? No. I have grey hair that is hard to cover. They use Wella haircolor, which in my opinion, doesn't cover the gray as well as other products out there. The girl was nice that cut my hair and did a good job of color matching, however, I noticed that she applied the dye thinly and didn't pull it through to the ends. I had the normal 35 minute processing time which is usually all my hair requires. However, within a week of my over the top expensive color job, the grey was starting to show through! And I only shampoo about every 3 days. I most likely will not be going back for a hair cut and dye, but will continue to go there for eyebrow waxings as I have no complaints there. read more

Went in for a haircut and got Deja as my stylist. She was very nice, listened to what I wanted and gave me a very good haircut. It seemed awkward that the stylists had to walk around the sinks to get to the products on a shelf that was at the feet of the clients leaning back into the sinks. I wonder if that was to make sure the client saw what products were being used. My stylist did try to sell me all the pricey products and add ins (special $25 conditioning treatment) but I am sure that they have to offer them to help increase POS. The prices are reasonable, my haircut was $40 and the salon itself was quite spacious in that warehouse type decor. Overall I am pleased with my experience and plan on making this my new hair salon in Eugene. read more

Amazing. I had the same hair stylist for 12 years before I moved to Oregon a few years ago. After getting my haircut elsewhere and not being that happy with it, I came to Chikara Salon. Alyssa was not only such an amazing artist with my hair (artist because she literally transformed it from horrible to chic and classy in just an hour!), but she was really easy to talk to. I had only had a few facials previously so I had a lot of questions and was interested in both the treatment and a consultation about my skin's needs. She was up to the challenge and was able to clearly identify recommendations and tailored the facial specifically to my needs and preferences. She was also just really friendly and thoughtful in her overall attitude toward me. I could tell she cared about the job she did and I also learned a lot. She didn't try to sell me a bunch of products or services at the end (which is much appreciated) but I would definitely go back just because it was so good for my skin and it was relaxing. I have been going here for 3 years for all my waxing services and can not recommend Cassidy enough. She always makes you feel comfortable and relaxed and is very patient. She never seems rushed and I have never had a bad experience with her. I have also got my hair styled and highlighted as well as a pedicure there. My hair always turns out nice. I went in for an Olaplex treatment, and explained my hair needs - I have brittle hair that responds negatively to 'cones (silicone, dimethicone, etc.) which I am trying to grow out. Apparently she took none of this in, because she literally tore through tangles while it was wet, and used the wrong products on my hair while styling it. Upon looking at the ingredients when she was done - which she could easily have done beforehand- every single one had the type of ingredient I specifically said I didn't want. read more

AWFUL. If you are a blonde, trying to get highlights, DO NOT COME HERE. I had to go back twice on several occasions because the colorist destroyed my hair. She turned my hair ORANGE and thought that it looked good. Then the second time, she turned it GRAY and charged me $160. I asked for my money back and they gave me horrible attitude and would not refund me or help me. Awful service, terrible colorists, over priced, and dumb dumb dumb employees. The atmosphere of this Salon has always been attractive to me. I have patronized Chikara on 3 separate occasions for a haircut. Three different stylists cut my hair. I've tried very hard to make this salon work for me however it has been a disappointing experience every time. The first visit I requested a lot of layering and movement around my face. At the completion of the service, the stylist handed me a mirror proclaiming how well layered the back was. He was right. It was not what I asked for. The second time with another stylist, I made the same request adding that I wanted to achieve body and height in the crown, I was given a conservative look styled stick straight without body or movement. The stylist proclaimed "this MY favorite style to cut". Again, not what I asked for. The last and final time I asked for a stylist who was good with razor cutting and requested "messy" layers. Again, I wanted a lot of movement . I walked out with a perfect conservative bob, the hair line length was uneven and my scalp was scalded with the blow dryer. Never again. read more
