There is a large selection, all organized by color (can't decide if I like that or not, because it can be hard to track down all the dresses, say, all over the store). There is casual sportswear, jeans, blouses, slacks and dresses, so stuff for all occasions. The help was fantastic, guiding me to things that would flatter me and also keep me fashion-forward. They have lots of cute jewelry and such, but not much for shoes and handbags -- stick to Weaver's or other specialty shops for those things. I will keep coming back for sure. A fun place to shop!

I love the nostalgia factor of this gigantic, three story department store parked right in the middle of downtown Lawrence. My most recent trip was to scout out tux rentals and they could not have been more helpful. They were priced better than others I'd met with, and were friendly and on the ball. Definitely looking forward to sending the groomsmen here later on this year. I then spent some time shopping afterwards and they have some very cool things, albeit some of them are pretty high end. They have customized Jayhawk/Southern Tide shirts, well crafted dress shirts & polos, and some awesome KC Royals belts filling the guys section. The ladies would love this store the most though as it spans multiple floors of various options. They don't make many like this anymore, but I'm glad Weaver's is still going strong!

Not the same story when I got them home. I immediately put on my favorite of the new shirts, looked down, and was horrified to see the chewed up stick of someone's Sucker. The spit stick was hanging firmly to my shirt by little, blue remains of the candy, the same candy that had been in someone else's mouth (hence the name 'spit stick') and--suspiciously enough--resembled the same subtle blue lip color of the check out girl. Now, I'm not saying she spit her Sucker trash in with my newly purchased clothes, but two plus two does equal four. The only other possibility that I can see is that the spit-stick was already in the plastic bag that the girl threw my clothes into. Either way, it's disgusting and unacceptable. I called the store and spoke with Jamie, the supervisor on duty, and she was utterly useless. I hardly doubt I will be doing business with Ross ever again.

I found out about Ditto when I was looking for a consignment or resale boutique that wasn't low…read moreend, like Plato's Closet (Plato's Closet caters to teenagers, and the clothing was cheap when new, mostly from Wal-Mart and Debs at best). I was hoping to find a consignment shop in town, but this was even better - Ditto buys (very selectively) for cash or about 20% more for store credit. I found a few grungy pieces while I shopped but 98% of what I saw was is in excellent condition and is not wash-worn, and I think they must dryclean or steam clean everything before putting it out, because the shop itself smells like new clothes, like any other boutique - unlike Plato's Closet, which smells like a chainsmoker wearing Axe body spray. Plato's Closet only seems to recognize cheap brands. They're not going to give you fair trade for a leather bag, all of their bags and most of their shoes are made out of plastic pleather and they seem mystified by anything nice. Ditto gave me a fair valuefor my clothing/shoes/bags, and saved me the time of having to try to ebay things, or find a consignment store in KC and wait to see if things sold eventually. I think you can expect to get about 10-20% of your item's original retail value; they're going to sell it for 50-60% under original retail value, so they're covering all their operating costs on the relatively thin margin of what's left after they subtract what they pay you. So the Prada boots, you're going to get maybe 30-40 dollars for them and might do better on ebay, but ebay is a PITA. I've read the reviews saying the sales staff are snobby, rude, whatever - and I think that's not quite right, or at least not quite fair. They're weird and aloof and awkward because they're SUPER YOUNG. They're not comfortable interacting with adults yet and that's really obvious if you've spent any amount of time with people 18-24 (the age of most of my students). Yes, they look like adults, but they're not. They're basically teenagers, and having to hold a conversation with someone who is older than 40 makes them feel like they're coming down with Ebola. If they look at you like they're judging you, it's because they're still living in that horrible self-conscious adolescent world where they do judge others, and themselves, harshly and nearly constantly. Most of them seem to be interesting and introverted, not the kind of kid who is extroverted and P-E-P-P-Y. So don't get snippy with them because they haven't learned how to effectively kiss a stranger's butt yet (sorry, practice "customer service"), that hostility seems to come out of nowhere to them and it just makes them more feral and weird. Be kind. Remember what a hard time that was. And if you're interacting with an awkward millennial, thank your lucky stars you're not dealing with the extremely weird older lady with the big frizzy bun hair and the pinched face who works there sometimes, or used to. I haven't seen her in awhile, maybe she has moved on to being offputting somewhere else. If I had to deal with her every time I brought in a bag of things to have evaluated, I'd never go at all.

Maybe you've walked by Urban Outfitters and mistaken it for a teeny tiny person's clothes store. And it is that. But it's also a great place to find weird stuff like naughty books and dorm room decorations and cult favorite toys. At Christmastime I look here for cool gifts that are reasonably affordable. The rest of the time I search the tables and shelves at the front of the store for bizarre conversation pieces or stuff that I can put on my desk and stare at when I'm trying to come up with headlines. Seeking inspiration yourself? Check out Urban Outfitters -- they have plenty of stuff that's so kitschy it's cool.

He also happens to have an extremely big foot and is very hard to fit. They do have an excellent selection of shoes to choose from, but it just wasn't in his size because of his "BIG FEET". She was so nice that she actually took the shoes out to my van so he didn't have to actually walk in the store, which was above and beyond the call of duty! It was so nice of her to have such excellent customer service! Prices seemed to be in line with the quality and brand of shoes. Great place and well organized!
