Weavers should be in the Smithsonian. It's an old fashioned local departure store and it's charm adds so much to Lawrence. Even though it's old and local there are some very cool things in this store. Weavers has a wide selection of many different items- clothing, makeup, shoes, home goods, luggage. From the street it doesn't look that large but it's huge inside. So much packed in this store. I always love coming here because it's the kind of store that makes you feel special. There is a personalized touch to this store and they get to know you by name. The only drawback is the parking situation and it's not Weavers fault. Parking in downtown Lawrence should be an Olympic event. However, to get the reward of going to Weavers, you gotta brave the parking downtown. The prices are very reasonable and the merchandise is very contemporary. There's something for everyone at Weavers. read more

Love Weavers. It's been in Lawrence forever. They have a selective amount of clothing, and hand bags, with 2 floors. They have men's and women's. The staff at Weavers are very nice and knowledgeable. They carry Spanx, the full line. I'm telling you, Spanx are hard to find unless you travel to Nordstroms. In reading the other reviews, I can see I missed an opportunity for a bra fitting. I will keep that in mind when I visit Weaver's again. I love their lingerie department. I've been a fan for a long time. They have Sak brand handbags. Again something you see in Nordstrom's or Macy's. I also saw a Coach bag. The jewelry department is selective as well. I think the buyers for Weavers have excellent taste. The shoes, selective, in good taste. Not your studded, stiletto heals heals type, but nice, luscious shoes that go well with the rest of Weaver's type of selection. And make-up also. Higher end brands like my favorite Lancome, Estee Lauder and Clinque. Excellent women's department. It is on the 2nd floor. When I was there there was a 20% off sale. I found alot of good prices. If you want a dress, this is the place. Quite possibly it's one of my favorite stores, and I've been to alot of places and have done allot of shopping. Weaver's is like something out of the Mad Men era when department stores in cities were THE place to shop. I love the nostalgia factor of this gigantic, three story department store parked right in the middle of downtown Lawrence. My most recent trip was to scout out tux rentals and they could not have been more helpful. They were priced better than others I'd met with, and were friendly and on the ball. Definitely looking forward to sending the groomsmen here later on this year. I then spent some time shopping afterwards and they have some very cool things, albeit some of them are pretty high end. They have customized Jayhawk/Southern Tide shirts, well crafted dress shirts & polos, and some awesome KC Royals belts filling the guys section. The ladies would love this store the most though as it spans multiple floors of various options. They don't make many like this anymore, but I'm glad Weaver's is still going strong! read more

Before there were malls and sprawling box stores we had Weaver's. We're damn lucky they're still here. I know what you're going to say. There are a lot of things you can't get here. I agree. I go to the big box stores out south or head into KC to Oak Park Sprawl and I get everything I want in the way of crappy service, messy display areas and retail sales people clearly bored out of their minds. And those items that make you think, "do people actually buy and use this stuff?" Absent here. No people in the hallway that nearly tackle you trying to get you to buy ridiculous items. "No thanks, already stocked up on Tibetan toe floss." SkyMall Magazine has nothing on your average suburban mall but at least on an airplane it's entertainment worth a laugh. For me, I find the best kitchen appliance store in town tucked away in their little basement. Seems whatever I can't find elsewhere I can get it here. Imagine that, a store that carries things you actually use and need. Granted, for guys they don't have a real wide selection of clothing, but I continue to wear a tweed sport jacket purchased for under $100 several years ago and expertly tailored for $10. Ridiculous. My cost per wear is in the pennies on that one. My girls get most of their cosmetics and plenty of clothing here and it's the go-to place in town for someone to do their make-up for those special occasions. Purses, women's shoes, that's just the first floor. Go up a level and it gets a lot more serious for the gals. Not my area of expertise. I dig that the floors creak, that it's dated, that it's clearly a business model from another era. It's the anti-mall, anti-box store, the old neighborhood department store that's a dieing breed. The people working here get that, and it's reflected in the service you receive. That should be enough, but there's something really special about getting your shopping done and then being within about 150 feet of a world class bakery, a Chinese tea shop and a couple of the best espresso shops in the city. Up the block in either direction plenty of solid restaurants and more shopping. Long live Weaver's, part of what makes Lawrence a special town. read more

What a fun store! I assume it's the original store in the original building, why do I assume this you ask? Well take a step inside and you will see why. Very old, 4 floors (if I recall), when you walk up the steps inside it is the sound of an old creaking building. They are a high end store for the "elite" Lawrence shoppers from what I gather. I very much enjoy their sale racks and clearance room. Wonderful options and brands to choose from. Service is really friendly and helpful. At least 4 people say hi as I walk in...they have a men's and women's department. They also offer cosmetics, formal dresses, perfume/cologne and shoes. Jason finds a specific brand of golf shirts here, Peter Millar I think is the name, he gets them for 50% off in the sale room. You can also grab your KU gear here. Weavers continues to satisfy...even last minute! Two weeks ago I found out at 3p that I was to attend a black-tie event that evening (yes, really, in Topeka). I knew my only option was to head to Weaver's and hope the sorority girls hadn't picked over all the dresses. So I raced in and the gals working the formal area were awesome! They pulled dresses, zipped, buttoned, hooked, and held up my hair. I ran across the hall and picked up jewelry then ran upstairs and bought underpinnings while the girls wrapped up my dress. In and out of the store in 45 minutes! I left that day with a $200 dress for $69! The dress looked great and I probably told people I bought it at Weavers. Yes, it's expensive. This isn't an everyday place. This is where you go when you need actual, you know... Customer Service. When you need to be measured, or need a little tailoring, or help picking out something that's actually going to look good on you. Their sales are excellent and that's really the time to shop there. I just wish they advertised them better so I knew about them all. I got a very nice dress shirt for less than $30 and easily the best belt I've ever owned for $20. It's the quality that makes the difference. That belt is going to actually be much cheaper in the long run because I won't have to keep buying a new one for $10 every year. Why is their selection so small? Well partly because of limited space, but also because they don't sell cheap crap. There's still a place for an old school department store in this town and this world. I hope they last another 100 years. I buy most consumer goods online these days but not clothes and shoes. Oh, how I love this store! Alas, I moved out-of-state and there is nothing else like the old, hometown feel of this deceptively massive store in the middle of downtown Lawrence. The basement houseware section has items you don't see in today's chain stores. I love the street-level ambience of the cosmetics section and the casual wear. There is a wonderful men's shop adjoining it, and then it's upstairs to the lingerie and women's floors. For a store of its size (granted, 4 floors, but not even close to big-box-store-sized inventory), the selection of brands and unique items is unsurpassed. You think "small-town department store," but you get big-time clothing store + quirky, clever gift shop all in one. I like not having 10 gazillion things to sort through and 5 football fields of space, yet I never feel like anything is lacking in terms of choice or quailty. You'll find Ralph Lauren and Tommy Bahama, plus Calvin Klein and DKNY clothes, as well as Cuisinart home appliances and Born shoes. I swear, I don't work there, but I love the place! read more

Weavers offers clothing for the young and professional. Similar to a Macy's in that it sells clothing and home decor along with other household items. The men's section is seated on the left side of the building if you're facing it. Great place to pick up a new tailored suit. I have been able to get quite a few brand name button ups that I have been able to wear for a couple years now. It is a bit pricey, but the staff is very nice and helpful, and their products are of very high quality. Check it out if you're looking for a gift for your dad. A Lawrence-based department store that helped me keep my post-Thanksgiving shopping out of the cash registers of Big Boxes I don't wish to support. Staff were knowledgeable and courteous. I bought two Tasc brand bamboo athletic shirts that the manager pointed out to me when I asked where to find sporty gear. I decided to stop by during my lunch break to do some shopping the other day. Honestly, their selection of clothing is rather small, although to be fair most of it was cute and reasonably priced. The makeup counter ladies are perfectly friendly, easygoing, and had plenty of helpful recommendations. However, as I was browsing the racks, I noticed one girl tailing me a bit. I was also rudely greeted with an emotionless "Hi" when I was looking at shoes more or less towards the back of the store. Yeah, I've gotta say a sour-faced blonde woman observing me, and then stopping dead in her tracks and "greeting" me when I turned vaguely in her direction didn't exactly make me want to patronize the business. Actually, my two daughters (in their teens and twenties) love Weaver's if they're looking for a dress, either for church or for a special occasion/party/prom. Since we live in a rural area we may go to Lawrence, Topeka, or K.C. to shop. But if they're looking for a nice dress that doesn't look cheap, Weaver's is their first choice. Junior size dresses can look so incredibly cheap. Going to Weaver's first usually saves a lot of the searching (and hassle) of shopping. read more

Last Friday, Sept 12 2014 I shopped in Lawrence for 2 outfits for an upcoming wedding. I walked in the door at Saffees, I was not greeted nor acknowledged. I browsed the racks while a few other woman entered. They were very well dresses. The Saffees employee were all over them, paying them compliments and helping them with their needs. While I may have not been dressed to the hilt, I did have the money to spend. I was very upset over this and made the short walk to Weavers where I made the purchase.
