Target Optical: Outsourced incompetence I took two pair of…read moreframes I already owned - one of them quite expensive for me - and both that I loved - to Target Optical to have a new prescription inserted. I was called that "Both frames were returned, and they couldn't put the lenses into the frames. One of the screws was hard to replace." They offered to "give me a frame out of their store" - which I already knew I wouldn't like - but would allow them to keep the $700+ for the lenses. To my surprise, when I picked up the frames, they had been rendered unrepairable and unusable- the screws on BOTH sides of the expensive frames had been destroyed, and attempts at replacing them resulted in the disfigured photos below. I grabbed the frames and left - I don't even know if they had the lenses that had been in the frames - but, of course, it wouldn't matter as the frames are no longer usable. I highly recommend you do not use Target for lense replacements, give this level of technical incompetence.

Not the same story when I got them home. I immediately put on my favorite of the new shirts, looked down, and was horrified to see the chewed up stick of someone's Sucker. The spit stick was hanging firmly to my shirt by little, blue remains of the candy, the same candy that had been in someone else's mouth (hence the name 'spit stick') and--suspiciously enough--resembled the same subtle blue lip color of the check out girl. Now, I'm not saying she spit her Sucker trash in with my newly purchased clothes, but two plus two does equal four. The only other possibility that I can see is that the spit-stick was already in the plastic bag that the girl threw my clothes into. Either way, it's disgusting and unacceptable. I called the store and spoke with Jamie, the supervisor on duty, and she was utterly useless. I hardly doubt I will be doing business with Ross ever again.

One can easily create a whole wardrobe for less than $150 bucks and look presentable doing it. You probably won't be on the cutting edge of fashion, but if you're on the cutting edge of fashion you're probably not excited by 75% off sales on dress slacks. Decent customer service, as in they leave you alone and don't stalk you in the aisles, but can be easily found if needed. All the atmosphere of a sterile medical clinic, but the bright lighting and low sight lines makes it easy to avoid the annoying screaming baby in it's stroller while the mom eyes clothes she might've worn 10 years ago. You may have to dig a bit to find what you want, but the money you'll save makes putting up with the rest of the trip worth it.

Due to this I wanted to purchase a jersey to commemorate their accomplishment. I looked online to see if there was a Dick's Sporting Goods near me and to my surprise it was one very close. So I came to this location 30 minutes after they opened for the day. I have never shopped at a Dick's Sporting Goods store before, so everything that I seen was new and fresh to my eyes. As I enter the store they had a huge sign stating that there was no discrimination allowed in the store and that everyone is welcome. I know that this sign clearly catered to the LGBTQ community and not necessarily to someone like me. I walked further in and immediately I saw the rows and rows of chief memorabilia and gear laid out for customers to pick and choose to their hearts content what they wanted to parade on their bodies or in their cars. As I went through row after row, I kept seeing the sizes of S, M, L, and XL. There were no plus sizes of any kind. Now of course it would be a Health nuts utopia to actually believe that every fan of the Kansas City chiefs was an extra large sized person or smaller. But if any of you have ever been to a game and looked at those people in those stands the majority of the people up there are from the flabby family to which I am a member. So as I rummaged through all of these shirts, hoodies and jackets and saw nothing that I could wear , I became more angry at the sign that I saw as I entered the store. How can you say that you don't discriminate when you know there are people of plus size that are Chiefs fans and you don't have anything to accommodate them. But I decided that I was shopping for my love of the team, not my love of the store. So as I wandered to the front of the store, I saw a table of chief gear and found a beautiful authentic Chiefs Tumblr and decided to purchase that. When I came to the register the lady actually had the audacity to ask me if I found everything that I wanted. I bluntly said, "no, because you have nothing here that accommodates people of my size. I guess fat people can't be fans" I must admit that she was quick to apologize, quick to assure me that more shipments would be coming in and to call before I come and they would surely try to hold a jersey for me so that I could purchase one. She did make an attempt to correct the situation as best she could and although I thanked her for being nice and I can appreciate the apology, in my mind it wouldn't even be necessary if they had thought of people like me in the first place. Her actions to try to correct it is sort of an afterthought of the company. I can't blame her for doing her job but I can blame the actual company for not making sure that they ordered sizes to accommodate all fans of the Chiefs. And the reason I know that they could've done this is that when I left dicks sporting good, I came home went online to fanatic.com and found a championship jersey in my size and placed my order. Brick and mortar stores need to really stop and think about why they are losing customers at an alarming rate. It's all about the customers and being sure that you have the supply and demand to meet the customers need. When you don't care enough to meet the needs of the customers, the customer will take their need to someone who can, which is what I did. So I guess when it gets down to it if you are thin, petite and athletic , This is the store for you. They will have everything to meet your desires. I found out about Ditto when I was looking for a consignment or resale boutique that wasn't low…read moreend, like Plato's Closet (Plato's Closet caters to teenagers, and the clothing was cheap when new, mostly from Wal-Mart and Debs at best). I was hoping to find a consignment shop in town, but this was even better - Ditto buys (very selectively) for cash or about 20% more for store credit. I found a few grungy pieces while I shopped but 98% of what I saw was is in excellent condition and is not wash-worn, and I think they must dryclean or steam clean everything before putting it out, because the shop itself smells like new clothes, like any other boutique - unlike Plato's Closet, which smells like a chainsmoker wearing Axe body spray. Plato's Closet only seems to recognize cheap brands. They're not going to give you fair trade for a leather bag, all of their bags and most of their shoes are made out of plastic pleather and they seem mystified by anything nice. Ditto gave me a fair valuefor my clothing/shoes/bags, and saved me the time of having to try to ebay things, or find a consignment store in KC and wait to see if things sold eventually. I think you can expect to get about 10-20% of your item's original retail value; they're going to sell it for 50-60% under original retail value, so they're covering all their operating costs on the relatively thin margin of what's left after they subtract what they pay you. So the Prada boots, you're going to get maybe 30-40 dollars for them and might do better on ebay, but ebay is a PITA. I've read the reviews saying the sales staff are snobby, rude, whatever - and I think that's not quite right, or at least not quite fair. They're weird and aloof and awkward because they're SUPER YOUNG. They're not comfortable interacting with adults yet and that's really obvious if you've spent any amount of time with people 18-24 (the age of most of my students). Yes, they look like adults, but they're not. They're basically teenagers, and having to hold a conversation with someone who is older than 40 makes them feel like they're coming down with Ebola. If they look at you like they're judging you, it's because they're still living in that horrible self-conscious adolescent world where they do judge others, and themselves, harshly and nearly constantly. Most of them seem to be interesting and introverted, not the kind of kid who is extroverted and P-E-P-P-Y. So don't get snippy with them because they haven't learned how to effectively kiss a stranger's butt yet (sorry, practice "customer service"), that hostility seems to come out of nowhere to them and it just makes them more feral and weird. Be kind. Remember what a hard time that was. And if you're interacting with an awkward millennial, thank your lucky stars you're not dealing with the extremely weird older lady with the big frizzy bun hair and the pinched face who works there sometimes, or used to. I haven't seen her in awhile, maybe she has moved on to being offputting somewhere else. If I had to deal with her every time I brought in a bag of things to have evaluated, I'd never go at all.
