Small homey place. Food does taste homemade, more like my mother in law's then my mother's, but good nonetheless. I had chilaquiles with green sauce, the chips were crispy as they should be. My 90 y/o Mexican mother had the mini menudo, past her high standard. My brother had barbacoa plate, greasy and overcooked, I think they added oil. Service was amateurish, they ran out of coffee during middle of meal, waited 10 mins for my second cup. May come back, probably wont. read more

Everything seemed like it was made fresh and on the spot, with that being said, be prepared to wait a while for the food to arrive. Freshly made is always nice, however, we all agreed that the food was lacking flavor. The limeade was freshly made and was perfect, not too sweet, not lacking sugar. After reading the mixed reviews online I did not know what the outcome was going to be. Well I just say that I only take the time to write a review for a restaurant who deserves the time for it. I must say that you need to try it for yourself - I ordered the chicken fajita plate and it was delicious. Good portion size and the server was very nice, polite and honest about the food being served. My friend ordered the menudo (of course I had to try it) it was good menudo, unlike other places. My chicken fajita was seasoned and cooked very good. You must try all 3 salsas that they offer with the chips - all 3 are delicious! The only downfall is that they do not have fountain drinks only bottled and Mexican sodas. But other than that it's on my "will return" list. read more

I was expecting more than what I got for the price. Had a free coupon for puffy nachos and got half and order of puffy nachos, which were a puffy fried tortilla chips and a cubed piece of American cheese nothing more, I always thought nachos had some beans as well. I had one carne guisad taco while I waited for the to go order. That was very good. The main course of fidello holgada. Rice and beans. Wow this place has really gone down it used to be really good. The owner the man with the long hair would be at the cash register greeting everyone and asking how things were. Went today and I specifically asked for my eggs over hard not over easy no one ever went by the table to see how everything was. I ate around the eggs went to pay and the waitress didn't even bother to ask how everything was. Nor say thanks come again and I paid 20 bucks for food that wasn't done right. I'm sorry but if you are wondering why there is hardly any people at your restaurant it has to do with the service and if you are going to charge so much then seivce and food need to be at its best and not so so. read more

The food was good but not great . The rice is the same type you get at steak plate sales . The beans nothing to rave about . I had the cheese enchiladas . It was ok but would not order again.The waitress was slow to take our order but we are in Laredo . This place has the best traditional Mexican food in town. Great puffy tacos and cheese enchiladas! Charro beans and rice excellent as well.

Chico's Comida Casera (home cooking) is just that, delicious South Texas Mexican home cooking in a bright, cozy environment. It was not far from our hotel and the Laredo airport and the service was excellent. I ordered the bean and chorizo and the egg and bacon tacos with corn tortillas. Super good! Everything is fresh and made to order, even the corn tortillas are home made. The home made salsas were also scrumptious additions. I've eaten many good breakfast tacos, but these were the best I've ever had. I highly recommend this place! read more

Great food! Great service! I enjoy eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Their Chico's Deluxe Plate is awesome, menudo is so tasteful, and their guisados are Casera style. They also have several salsas to choose from. Very down to earth and homey environment. A must try!!! read more

i literally just finished ordering a plate to go, and when i got home, i was very disappointed! don't you just hate that feeling? you're hungry and excited to try something "new" only to be deceived! i walk in and ask for a fajita plate with some chicken fajita, which the waitress was attentive at least. it came out to be 17.00 and change including the large fresh limonada which was 3.00 by the way. the reason i was so disappointed was because it wasn't even fajita, it was arrachera. i know that cuts of meat are subject to preference, but i wanted fajita. and the worst part was that there were only like 4 small, skinny, and short pieces. the pieces of green bell pepper were bigger, which weren't even grilled properly, they were practically raw. and to make matters even worst the chicken fajita wasn't even chicken breast. they were small chunks of chicken thigh, and there were only like 5 chunks. the rice was very basic, and the beans were just the same. it felt like i picked up an order from a plate sale on the side of the road! and for the cherry on top, they only served 2 corn tortillas with the order. they were homemade which was the least they could do. people think that because the restaurant is on the north side they can charge palenque grill prices. lol at least palenque grill's portions are worth the money! i do not recommend eating here. there is nothing unique about the cooking style, and the quality is very poor. man, for 14.00 i can get a big bowl of all organic food from chipotle, and that's only 12.00! it also came with a small side of lettuce and 2 slices of tomato, and a small dollop of avacado. i hate it when restaurants get stingy with avacados! the 1 star was for the limonada which was decent, i felt totally ripped off, never again! read more
