Incredible chicken. I stop every time I am in Macomb. Skip the fast food and have a great meal.

I have yet to be disappointed by Chick's food and staff! I usually get the Chickuccine which is fettuccine Alfredo with chicken lip pieces and the buffalo lip sauce. You also get a few small pieces of bread around your plate. It's a phenomenal dish to get! I usually get fries with it, their fries are lattice/waffle fries and are pretty good too! Also the lip sauce is optional if you don't like the hot buffalo sauce, they should ask when you order if you want it at all. The only issue I've ever had is wait times. I've had to wait outside a couple times on busy nights because it's a small restaurant. In the winter they at least have an entry way they add to the front to wait in and on to restrict the cold air coming into the restuarant. Also it's a little bit odd that Chicks has a giant bar in the middle which covers most of the floor. Then they have 15-20 other tables around it which are regular height or tall stool tables. I kind of wish they'd move the bar to one side allowing for more table seating and a lot more customers at a time. I have nothing against bars, most of my favorite restaurants have a bar, but it doesn't take so much space away for regular table seating like this one does. read more

I have been here several times since there isn't much to choose from in Macomb unless you are going to a fast food joint. It is one of the better places to eat, but that isn't saying much. You do get good size portions. Personally, I think their food is okay, but nothing spectacular. I have had their Lips (which are large breaded chicken strips), and don't care for them, although, my son loves them. He also likes the chickquito w/BBQ sauce instead of hot sauce. We always get their Bacon Cheeseburgers and are good sized. The thing I don't care for is they use a lot of garlic salt in them. We called in a to-go order on Thursday and I requested no garlic salt. Well, they forgot to leave it off, and they forgot my mayo. They also forgot my son's BBQ sauce for his chickquito...which is extremely aggravating since he loves their BBQ sauce. They also carry the lattice fries (or waffle fries), but it seems like every restaurant here does. I absolutely despise these things! If a business wants to use them, fine, but have regular ones too. I am originally from a town 2 hrs Southeast from here, and I have only ran across these a couple times in my life in closer towns. At least they offered regular fries too. The best item, in my opinion, is their loaded spud and are MASSIVE! They are probably the best baked potatoes I have EVER had! They are crisp on the outside and rubbed lightly with oil, sea salt, and sprinkled with pepper (which I could live without the pepper)...it doesn't need it. The only gripe I have with these, they don't add butter to them before adding the toppings. They don't even include butter unless you ask. I tried asking them one time to add the butter first and then the toppings, I got butter in a little cup instead. It is a theme of a sports bar and grill, which is very popular with the college kids her from WIU. If you are into that sort of thing, this is your place. They are usually very crowded, but it's a nice atmosphere if you don't mind college kids. It is also closed on Sunday's and only open until 9pm Monday-Thursday. read more

The chicken was very good; menu was confusing. They have entries for 1 lip or 4 on the menu. Most people will never eat 4. They are too big. Two lips with a side would be the go-to order. I'd imagine they do this if you ask for it. read more

#1 question here is why was I in Macomb? I still have not figured out an answer to that question, but I am really glad that we stumbled upon Chicks. The lips are raucous! They are the equivalent of chicken fingers on steroids. The wing sauce was what made it truly outstanding. Three lips will fill you up if you are a hungry relatively large eater. I know this a local favorite and believe me, it TOTALLY deserves it!! Chicks is slightly below a five star rating. Let me start off with their fantastic food. The menu of Chick's revolves solely around their extra large chicken strips called "lips". Everything I have had tastes perfect. Their lips either come naked, soaked in a tangy BBQ, or slathered in their special lip sauce. I have tried everyone of those and they are flawless every single time. I have tried the soups, spuds (potato with lips on top), and lip quesadillas. Their waffle fries are also spectacular. Chicks also offers a full bar and have a huge selection of margaritas and alcoholic drinks. That's a complete plus considering the location of being in a college town. There is plenty of seating and I have never had to wait very long for a table. The staff could be more inviting which is really where the place falls short of a five star rating. Today when we went in, the air conditioning was barely working. The music was extremely loud even though there was barely anyone in the place. Could have just use a little more consideration on those two things. But overall, Chick's is probably the best place in Macomb. Great food and nice atmosphere. Great for groups. read more

Any place that serves an item called "chicken lips" deserves a try. Good thing we did because it was crazy good! The place has a sports bar feel with plenty of screens to watch a game on.They have a large martini menu (I know, you wouldn't expect it, but they do). The four of each ordered a different flavor and ALL were so good! If chicken lips (basically large chicken fingers) aren't your thing, they have other items to choose from on their menu as well. Their potato soup was out of this world too. However, I highly recommend the lips! I ordered the wrap and it was so filling. There is just enough buffalo sauce on them. They also have waffle fries! Overall they are decently priced, cheap really. The service was great - she was very attentive and we were all impressed that she did not need to write anything down! Chick's is pretty good. Their menu is very thematic so if you have a hankering for great bar food, hot sauce, and friendly people, this is the place! Chicken lips instead of strips, they are huge & 2 will fill you up. I'd heard quite a bit about this place & their martini menu is a novel idea in this town. Several to choose from & I tried two, the dreamsicle and the cherry starburst both good. I will eat here again next time I'll try the lip fries, looked yummy. My only complaint is that they don't have more dipping sauces. Only their lip sauce, buffalo or ranch. I like honey mustard, Polynesian or something else to choose from. read more

Passing through Macomb on the way home from Saint Louis, we stopped here for lunch. What an interesting place. If you can get beyond the dumb puns played around chickens, this is a restaurant that presents chicken breast meat in a rather remarkable variety of ways. The basic unit is the lip (you got it - chicken lips), but it is presented in numerous and clever ways with any of several kinds of dressing up with sauce. Mine came on top of a baked potato with bleu cheese crumbled into the potato. They offered their BBQ sauce, but I asked for it on the side. This was a filling meal. The bleu cheese was tasty and the sauce was sweet and hot. If I lived in Macomb, this is a place I would make a regular stop. read more

I know this is a local favorite and my family must eat there every time they visit but I get bloated every time I eat there. You do leave smelling like grease and their prices are expensive in general but you get a lot of food for it. My favorite thing is the martinis since they are unique and well made. Really good chicken, great waffle fries, and ice cold micro brews on tap. Clean, updated interior, which is nice considering much of the town is very old and has not been updated since it was built. We brought our son to Western on a tour and stopped here for an early dinner. The menu is decent, prices were right, however the bar menu left something for me as a customer to be desired, they had 47 martini's and several decent beers but no malt bottled liquor, No Mike's No Smirnoff's. Just didn't have anything that I was looking for cocktail wise. The food was really good, the Lips were gigantic! Lips are their version of chicken strips covered in their buffalo hot sauce (which wasn't too hot) or their own BBQ sauce. They serve 1, 4, 13, or more, both my son and his friend got 4 and even as much as they can eat they couldn't eat all 4! My husband got a chicken wrap and it was big and stuffed with veggies and roasted chicken with a light salsa flavored dressing. Waffle fries were battered and fried so yummy!!! The service was excellent! Food was out quick and she was on top of pop refills, they serve Pepsi products. Overall it was a positive experience and we will be back. read more

The only extremely consistent great food in Macomb. The place to take visitors, family, and friends any time you can't decide on a place to go. Good portion sizes, high quality, ALWAYS fresh and hot. Their specialty and menu revolve around chicken lips, which can be eaten 7 days a week twice on Sunday. My only problem with this place is that I'm not eating it right now. Waffle fries worth the price of admission of high prices...

Chicks on the Square makes giant fried chicken breast strips and they do it well. I came in around 3 PM on Thursday and was greeted at the door, but I chose to sit at the bar. They have a decent craft beer selection. I went with a bottle of the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and it was served cold in the bottle with a cold glass. For my food I ordered the 4 piece Chicken Lips (which is what they call their large chicken breast strips), 2 dipped in BBQ and 2 dipped in Lip Sauce, with a small order of waffle fries. I was expecting them to be big but not as big as they actually were, which is a good thing. What I got looked and smelled excellent in the form of 4 HUGE breaded and fried Chicken Lips glistening from the dipped-in BBQ and Lip Sauce. I cut up one of each and went to town, and they were delicious! Imagine your favorite fried chicken wings, but instead they are huge, tender, juicy, perfectly crispy fried chunks of delicious boneless real chicken breast meat. The BBQ sauce tasted like some sort of soda-based bbq with some kind of tang in there and paired great with the ranch. The Lip Sauce was the perfect blend of spice and hotness, not so hot that it burns but just enough so that you know it's there - and with the ranch - DAMN. The Waffle Fries were decent, but nothing to write home about. Being that they are pretty much the significant side dish, I was expecting a little more from them. The one issue I had was the service, and it was not the server's fault. After the bartender served me, he disappeared with one of the other servers/hosts, leaving one waitress to serve the entire restaurant. In the industry, this is what we call a dick move, and BAD management. The place soon filled up with customers. This waitress comported herself with grace under fire. While clearly frustrated as any person would be in her situation, she sat all the customers, took their orders, got their drinks and food out to them, and did an overall OUTSTANDING job. What I had heard about this place was that it was overpriced. While pricey, if you really look at the portion size of the Chicken Lips, it is in line with what you would pay at any other restaurant and some fast food places. It may not be an everyday place for the budget conscious WIU student, but I would much rather nosh down on some of these Dipped Chicken Lips than Buffalo Wild Wings anyday. And in my opinion it's MORE AFFORDABLE than B-dubs. The Chicken Tortilla Soup is fire. Bruschetta is good, too. Management, don't screw your servers over. Not everyone in there will understand that it's not their fault, and they will get screwed on tips. It's a chicken place that specializes in chicken. Order the Chicken Lips. Why try something new when you already found the best thing on the menu? Also have a good beer and mixed drink selection, with pretty darn affordable prices. This is probably the best restaurant in town. Attracts older couples/families and college students alike. The biggest attraction are the "lips" which are basically giant(6 inches or so) tenders deep fried and then smacked with a ton of their signature "lip sauce" which is phenomenal. Their BBQ sauce is also very good. They have an easy to access layout that welcomes people who just want to go for a drink and meet new people. The staff is generally made up of a bunch of college students looking for extra cash so the service quality is sort of hit and miss...but I mostly get pretty good service. My only complaint is that nearly everything is a tad pricey and therefore not a place I go to more than once a month. Their chicken lips are $3 each...which is pricey in itself, but their next offer up is four chicken lips for $10. So they kind of get ya there at that kind of price point. Hard to leave this place without spending at least $15 for yourself. With that said, it's still worth going to every so often because the food is so darn good. The sauces are a tad spicy in the beginning but not enough for you to put it down. I usually leave this restaurant hating myself at how full I am. :) read more

After graduation, I miss Chicks on the Square! They had a great variety of Martinis (seriously- something for everyone!) The chicken lips were tasty, the baked potato soup is spot on, and they have this dessert (I think it's the big ass pie or something like that) which is great to share with a group. Loved the nights when they'd have the truck outside the bar, so you could get some chicken on a stick... The only gripe I have is how small this place is! Forget about going here on any special weekend: Homecoming, Mom's / Dad's etc... Also parking in the square can sometimes be a bit of a pain, but oh well. It's worth it. In terms of a small Midwest town, this place is great. The staff was friendly and pretty on point. The food was tasty and in large portions. Great value for your dollar. They have two things that are their claim to fame. One is their large list of martinis. Somewhere over 50, I believe. The group I was with tried about 4 of them. Everyone seemed to like them. Im a beer guy and was a little disappointed that they only had 5 (possibly 4 or 6) beers on tap. The second thing is they have what they call "lips". Its just a fried chicken strip. I don't understand why they call it a lip but it doesn't really matter. It is what it is. My brother had the spud with a lip (a baked potato with a chicken strip on top with all the toppings). It actually looked amazing and he said it tasted as good as it looked. I would go back here again when in town. read more

I am a recently graduated student from Western Illinois University and I have to say that Chicks is one of the best places in Macomb. When you go you definitely need to get the Lips. They are huge and filling. It's a deep fried strip of chicken breast, covered with hot sauce. Most people get it with the Blue Cheese Sauce (which comes on the side) but I usually get the Ranch (their's has dill in it). The Big Island Burgers are also very good and my friends frequently get them. The waffle fries are also delicious. If you have room for an appetizer to start with the Mushroom Fries are amazing. They have a fantastic selection of Martini's. My favorite would have to be the Lemon Drop Martini. I haven't had one as good anywhere else Macomb or otherwise. I usually never have had room for dessert, but if you go there on your birthday you get a free "Big Ass Ice Cream Pie". It is very big, but very delicious. read more
