My family had lunch at Chick's on freshman move in day at WIU. We arrived around 1:30pm and were seated at a table right away. Chicks is comfortable inside, with the kitchen in the back, a bar in the middle, and seating all around. We ordered the spicy fried pickles, pizzadilla, the lips nachos, lips fries, chicken tortilla soup, and lips salad. We were happy with everything except that the tortilla chips in the nachos tasted slightly stale and we wished that the fried pickles were a little crispier. We were impressed with the plate sizes, and we had plenty of leftovers to enjoy later. We will definitely go back and try some other things off of the menu the next time we're down in Macomb. read more

The service was nice, other than needing to get my own refill more than once due to lunch rush, which wasn't a major concern. But considering the price, the food was a letdown. My "lips" were ordered with the hottest sauce available, which tasted like regular franks red hot and butter, extremely mild. They were also *very salty.* I don't usually complain about salt but my mouth was dry for hours. Burgers for the rest of the table were undercooked and very pink despite ordered medium, and everyone mentioned their buns were soggy and fell apart. The guy who ordered the pizza liked it. But for a $100+ total before tipping, even with most of the table ordering water, this place was highly underwhelming considering all the good I've heard of it. read more

Always good service and great food, but I do get the Lip Fries every time I go and the serving size has gone down significantly since I started coming here. I love this place. I live clear across the country in California, but my business has brought me to Macomb twice now, and both times I've eaten at Chicks! It becomes obvious when you walk in that "Chicks" may not be a reference to poultry. The wait staff is predominantly beautiful girls. But they hide the men making the delicious comfort food behind a wall with a pass through that makes you know they exist! All in all it's the perfect blend of great service with a smile and tasty food and drinks at a reasonable price! Definitely try the chicken tortilla soup and any kind of lip you can get! The "Lips" are pterodactyl sized tenders that are perfectly fried such that they are crispy, moist, and NOT greasy. The sauces are also a great addition and lots of choices to make it fun. I was done but I should mention beer, besides the boring mass produced stuff most of the country drinks, they have a thoughtful selection for the beer snobs (like myself). My partner and I had never been to Chicks before and decided to give it a try for takeout. Upon walking up to the takeout register, we were asked what we wanted...no menu offered, visible, or QR code for menu. (hence no picture). Luckily, we just had the menu up and had some idea what we wanted. So I recommend going prepared! We ordered two loaded potato's, six "lips", and an order of waffle fries. While we waited for our food, we sat at the bar so we could try a couple of martinis off their extensive list. Although there were other customers at the bar, there was no bartender for about ten minutes and then once he returned, he blatantly ignored us and we were never offered a drink. Our food was ready after about 15-20 mins and headed out. Overall, the food was good. We ended up missing our order of waffle fries but we weren't charged for them either. It's a rare day that I give a 1 star review but it was deserved today. We are in town for holidays and decided to head to Chicks for some takeout since it had been years since we've had their famous lips. Upon entering we were greeted and mentioned we were ordering takeout then directed to the back counter. We went to order but looking around saw no menus, and weren't offered any. While kind of fumbling an order, the cashier said to just take our time, no problem. So she was nice but odd that no menu was offered or nearby and it seemed up to us to pull up on our phone what they had to offer. There was a little difficulty placing the order but another employee, who seemed rather annoyed, helped the cashier and we finished our order. Since we were going to be waiting, we headed to bar to grab a seat and drink. No one was working the bar when we sat down but other patrons were sitting across from us with drinks so we waited...and waited...and waited. Five employees were just hanging around by the counter about 10 feet away and none of them thought to come see if we wanted to order a drink. It was odd. Even when someone came to check on the two others at the bar and get them their check, they completely ignored us. It appeared that none of the employees wanted to be there and the attitudes of all were pretty dismal. Ultimately, we got our food and left. In the car we found part of the intended order was missing but upon checking the bill, they never rang up the missing item so we just headed out. Once we got home, the food was good but the whole experience in the restaurant was enough to have us skip it on future trips to Macomb. While visiting Western Illinois University for a college tour with my daughter, our group tour guide brought us all to Chicks for the end of the day meal. It was the quintessential college town spot to grab a bite to eat, watch a game, or even have a first date. If you like Buffalo Chicken Tenders, this is the place for you. A little bar and restaurant on the southwest corner of the Macomb town square, this place is known for its "Chicken Lips" AKA giant chicken strips with a variety of sauces, including their signature "Lip Sauce" which is a nice buttery medium Buffalo sauce. They also have a full burger and sandwiches menu. Our party each ordered one of their signature chicken lip dishes, the "Lip Nachos, the Lip Fries, and the Lip Spud. The Lip fries were a huge portion of the chicken lips chopped up on a plate of bacon cheddar waffle fries with ranch dressing. The Lip Nachos were super tasty and not overpowering, the lip spud was fantastic a huge baked potato with a giant chicken lip, cheese toppings and your choice of dressing. The beer was nice and cold and the staff was friendly, it was a pretty busy afternoon as it was a few hours before the Western Illinois University homecoming game. My only small complaint with this bar was that as a sports themed bar, they didn't have the Big 10 network on their cable package so I couldn't get the game I wanted on the TV. Chick's is my favorite place in Macomb! I moved to Macomb from Los Angeles for grad school and although I've been gone for 2 years now, I still think about it! The chicken lips are their version of all white chicken breast fried in a batter and tossed in sauce. Lip Sauce = buffalo and Lip Gloss = BBQ, both are great! I recently came back to visit and our first meal back was Chick's - although they've expanded their menu since I was last here, I didn't even have to look, I knew I had to get the Lip Fries with Lip Sauce and ranch and it did not disappoint. I like to ask for a little extra lip sauce just to make sure I get a good saucy dish. I highly recommend their loaded baked potato soup as well. I want to give it a 4 star rating, but I just can't do it and be completely honest and fair. I went here and it was as you can imagine- mediocre. First, when I was in I am seated and my waitress is...robotic in her manner. No pep, not cheery, just blase. Ordered the Chicken Lips Nachos. The sauce was okay ( Frank's Red Hot, butter, and a little cayenne/garlic mix), the lips breaded over a plate of dull nacho chops from a bag. The bad part, was that it was cold when it got to my table. Also, I am not sure if this is normal or not, but they weren't taking credit cards when I went. Maybe the machine was down or something, but when they came to the table to take orders, they told us upfront it was cash only. It's a small place, almost always packed, again they're doing something right. This place was recommended on a recent trip to take our son to school. Since it was our first time here we tried the Lip fries. The chicken chunks were dried and over cooked as if they had been microwaved for too long. The chunks were hard and dry. We sat at the bar and the bartender us this was their most popular item. While the chicken was horrible the fries were ok. My husband decided to try one Lip and it came out hot and was tasty. It was so strange that they decided to put dried out chicken chunks on the fries. Stay away from them and just order the Lips and fries separately. Took off two stars for the horrible Lip fries and the fact that they did nothing to address our displeasure after giving them feedback. The way the chicken on top is prepared is a mystery. read more
