Ordered cod with coleslaw for my dinner. I get cod no cole slaw. That's my dinner, 3 pieces of cod because someone couldn't handle two items in a carry out. Managers excuse we got busy. Do I want to come and pick it up when I had Uber eats deliver it?? Do I want a credit?? I wanted my dinner but I guess that's too much to ask for. Ordered 2 bite size buckets, meat is from the chicken tenders. We ordered 3 sauces without an up-charge. We got the BBQ, hot and spicy and honey mustard sauces. It was $52.98 with taxes. Smells good, that cozy smell of deep fried chicken. It's pretty quick and efficient, your fried goodness will be out shortly. I can see them putting together our bucket as well as the orders inside and online. This is my first time ordering and I hope it's good. For a bucket of 40 pieces of chicken bites we were given 1 small container of each of the 3 sauces, seems so little. We got 3 of each kind, that's the best they would do for us. The chicken bites taste decent without the sauce, definitely bite sized, better with sauces. Wish it came with more sauces for a bucket is all. We like our bites good and saucy. For over 50 years you had the absolutely best broasted potatoes Anywhere. Then some corporate genius decided to force all of your locations to buy potato cutting machines to make the potatoes "uniform" at every store (they already were pretty dang uniform & they were great!) So I go to your Royal Oak store the other day & tried the result of what you've labeled "Shack Potatoes" & I gotta tell you that it's an Epic Fail. 2 thirds Little squares & a bunch of small crispy left over pieces. Leave it to some corporate hack to mess something up that's been Perfect for more than 5 decades. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT, GENIUS. Because you might just ruin one of your signature items. Well, this is a revision of my previous review. Their good is still great but the no longer deliver. With the work shortages I can see if this is temporary, but they now want you to order off Door Dash. I would not mind this either but i placed an order for abour 50 bucks. But the final total was OVER 80. Door Dash added over 30 bucks in "Tax & Fees". This is the very definition of gouging. I tried and did order a similar order from KFC and the "tax & fees" were only about 10. I can live with that. I will no longer support Chicken Shack until they stop gouging their customers. If you are going to say its Door Dash doing the gouging, then maybe so... but Chicken Shack agreed to it. They could easily use a different delivery service. Manager Keith is a quintessential case study in how to run an establishment right. 02 clarify right off the bat, I do not know him personally and this was my first time meeting him. My order was missing an item and had no sauce in the bag after I got home. I called and returned. Keith not only made me a new order but also a full bottle of sauce. On top of that, his demeanor attitude, and overall approach to the situation was, through everything I've learned working in customer service, the food industry and starting businesses, textbook in how to maintain a return customer base and quite frankly, just simply being a good person in a world where everything has become transactional impersonal and sterile. Visiting my hometown of DETROIT and I always have to get food from certain places...Chicken Shack is one of them! I was the 2nd customer in and got my food really quick. I order the same thing all the time. 3pc tender meal with breasted potatoes with extra butter. Bonus if you get the bbq sauce and put it over everything so it mixes with the butter *chefs kiss* See you guys next visit! They can't seem to get a delivery order correct. 3 out of the last 4 times I've ordered, we've been missing items or charged and sent items we did not order. This is a prime example of why people oppose raising the minimum wage. The fact that this continues to happen is a sign the management does not care. I really debated about whether this should come in at 3 or 4 stars, but my complaint/critique is only about one "real" thing, and they do most everything else pretty darned well, so 4 stars it is. Darned their chicken is good when it's fresh and hot. I mean, *DARN* it's good. It's crispy. It's juicy. It's flavorful. It just *hits*. I mean, shoot...it ain't cheap, but it sure is worth it to me sometimes. As well, their potatoes (no butter for me) are also good, but not quite to the same ethereal heights as that fresh-from-the-broaster chicken. There are rare occasions that they might serve me chicken that might have sat for a few minutes, but I always send it back if it's not piping hot and wonderful. That doesn't happen often, and when it does, they're always willing to freshly prepare some for me if I'm willing to wait for it. The wait is worth it. Too, I'm kind of partial to their coleslaw, which has a nice dusting of paprika on it, the way my mom and grandma used to top theirs. It's not the best coleslaw you'll ever eat, but it is quite good, of solid quality, and is always worth ordering that second side for me. Suckers me every time, but I enjoy being suckered that way. Good stuff. Staff always has a positive attitude, though I will admit that the nickel-and-diming nature that is Chicken Shack does get a bit old. Every single thing seems to cost extra, but at least they're up front about it. Having said that, the prices are pretty high as-is...you'd think sauce wouldn't be too much to ask sometimes. It is what it is, but I can see it being annoying to some people. I should also add that the place is usually very, very clean, both in the customer area and the food preparation area, of which you can see a lot from behind the COVID glass. As well, the restroom is usually clean and well-stocked with paper products. Good things, a restaurant being quite clean. Makes you feel more confident about eating there, and lets you know that the important things aren't being ignored due to laziness or the I'm-sick-of-hearing-it-by-now "We're short-staffed due to COVID". That has never once been an excuse offered here, which is a refreshing change from just about *everyplace else*. Where they lose points with me is in the ribs that they sell, and while they're certainly not inedible or anything, they are *definitely* not inexpensive, and in the multiple times I've had them (usually in combination with chicken, potatoes, coleslaw and roll), they're pretty much the lowest member of the totem pole on the plate, with the possible exception of the roll. They tend to be very dried out and undersauced, or maybe they taste undersauced simply *because* they're dried out, and you're wanting something to make them a bit juicier, more moist...*something*. The ribs add a lot to the bill, but end up bringing in the rear of the food offerings that they have. The chicken, they have down in spades. The ribs? Well, the best grade I could give them, on their very best day, is a C-minus, but usually somewhere in the Ds. The sauce is actually pretty good, but when you cook or dry the life out of the ribs that pad the bill this much, you've erred. Again: they're edible, but they won't cure your jonesing for some good ribs if you're hungry for them. Plus, you'll wonder why you paid that much for them. I'd avoid them, but I do think that the BBQ sauce they use is a good thing with the chicken sometimes, and you can get the chicken dipped in that BBQ sauce...for an extra charge, of course. I know, it's called "Chicken Shack" and not "Rib Joint", and that's a fair statement, and I do give them *gobs* of credit for their chicken, amongst other things! But if you're going to have ribs, and you're going to be charging these kinds of prices for ribs (and inexpensive they are *NOT*!!!!), you need to be bringing a better, more moist, saucier experience to the table, lest you overshoot the target, so to speak. It's consistently a too-dry ribs experience, here, but everything else that I've had, so long as it's freshly made? Good stuff, Maynard. Let me start by saying I love Chicken Shack. I drive by other chicken places, because I know Chicken Shack is my favorite. Until yesterday. I ordered chicken wings for the first time. I have never seen smaller and more meatless wings in my life. The price for 4 wings and fries is $7.50. I spent $35 yesterday and was disappointed to say the least. My family has gone here for decades. They have rapidly gone down hill. My second to last visit, the chicken was just so underwhelming. Parts of it were chewy and full of tendons and just all around nasty. Like no one took the time to properly clean, and cut parts off. I decided to give them one more try, and this was the nail in the coffin. After opening up the potatoes and putting some on my plate, I saw a huge, long hair at the bottom. And I have very short hair, so it wasn't mine. Absolutely disgusting. I didn't end up eating anything, because really, who could after that? And I just threw it out. I then called the manager, and told him my situation. And all I got was a very underwhelming response of- "We're sorry to hear that...." No offer of a refund, or even half off. No offer of a credit to get another meal on my next visit. Just simply, oops sorry. He really kind of acted like, what do you want me to do about it? Without actually saying that. I wasted around $40.00 that night. And will never go back. Not just because of how he handled the situation, but also because once I go somewhere and find hair, it's hard for me to ever want to go back. Some people can get past it. My friend and I were debating where to go for a post shopping excursion to rejuvenate after spending money. We had already been to one spot that was cash only and had to walk out. The debate continued as drove down 11 Mile. My friend exclaimed suddenly (with glee) I may add- "Stop here!" After voicing the name of the restaurant out loud. She relayed that she had recently been to this restaurant in a different location and had a lackluster experience. She was advised by a third party that only THIS location was worthwhile going to. We walked in, the restaurant area is small and clean. You walk in and place your order. Not many people were here as it was off hours. First we were going to do take out and then we decided to eat in. We sat down and waited for our order. There is a sign that informs you "in off hours food is made to order for freshness." It was a minute to get the food, we decided on the "chicken snack." They were happy to change our order from take out to eat in. We were served after a bit. It appears the way to go is order ahead and pick up the order BTW. Our food showed up. Piping hot. Not for the calorically minded. Our potatoes were dripping with butter. And well salted- as was the chicken. This was seriously good chicken! May I say the cranberry jam was a nice touch and pretty good with both the potatoes and chicken. It may have been for the biscuit but I didn't really make it that far into the meal. It was a lot more than a "snack" for me! Definitely going back to this location for this treat! read more

My husband and I cooked fresh collard greens and sweet potatoes. We wanted chicken to go with. Several of the places he passed had very long lines, so he went to Chicken Shack. The service was not good. The girl didn't seem to know what light and dark meat meant. Her interpretation was a breast ,2 wings and a thigh, all equally scrawny and overcooked.The pieces were so small I could have held it all in my hands and I have small hands. This snack cost $10. The chicken tasted like it was sitting around a few hours, the potatoes and mushrooms not fried enough. I usually get from the Clawson location and will never go to the 11 mile. The Clawson gives a different honey mustard (homemade perhaps?) but I got Ken's Honey Mustard, which is much different and not tasty. Never again from here. read more
