This one just needs some tweaks - and I don't mean meth users - to make it a great spot.
First, the inside space is small, so to make the best use out of it you order and pay and then go outside to await your name being called to get your food.
I think the people stacked up outside kept us away a few times because we didn't know the ordering situation.
Secondly, there is no drink fountain, so you are relying on bottled water or bottled soft drinks which to my taste, are unpleasant at room temperature. Your other option is to hold off on purchasing a drink until you get your food which means your bottled drink is colder, but still not as good as ice and a refillable cup.
Lastly the menu and food itself. When we ordered we explained it was our first time there and the guy gave us an ok crash course in ordering the right thing - that's how I decided to make a second purchase of drink once I got my food. I ordered the chicken sliders and an order of French fries and a Coke. When I ordered the chicken I ordered it hot. The guy didn't really react so I thought I was good. When my friend ordered he ordered mild chicken and the guy at the counter said "that will be like hot buffalo". Hot buffalo is typically to my liking so I asked about my "hot" order and he relays to me some sauce variant I've never heard of, but I gathered mild = hot and hot = more hot - which I thought would be ok because there were several hotter levels. That should have been a clue I was in for a treat - that and all the signs that read by my head "if you order too hot, you're on your own" or something along the "no refunds" line.
I'm not a big cole slaw guy, so I asked to have that on the side and that request was honored. We asked about ranch dressing and we were told they didn't have any. Now I'm not crazy about ranch like the people I see in videos online drinking it, but if I'm a hot chicken place I'm probably offering ranch. Further, I can't think of a restaurant or eating establishment that shouldn't have ranch and ketchup (not in packets). If I had Ciro's Cereal House I'm still keeping ranch and ketchup close by. Maybe Nashville Hot Chicken has a purist sect that guffaws at anything other than cole slaw and pickles on the sandwich, but I'm not a member of that crowd and I suspect the general public isn't either.
When I opened the slider box I learned these were basically two sandwiches. When I opened the box of fries I found enough fries to cover as sides for several people. Also the ketchup was in packets which for those unaware is a tactic used by the CIA at terrorist interrogation black sites. It has proven useful in extracting information when the terrorists are served a large helping of fries and given 3 ketchup packets. After a couple minutes battling to open the tiny packets only able to enhance the flavor of about 7 fries they are ready to sing like a bird for a full bottle of ketchup.
Now remember the heat discussion? I did eat one full sandwich, but it became more of a challenge than enjoyment. About 3 bites in I was sipping on my room temperature Coca-Cola to quell the heat attempting to billow back out of my throat, which I can only assume is how a dragon builds a fiery breath to burn down a city. For me, hot was definitely hotter than I was prepared for and I eat spicy stuff regularly. With half the sandwich gone I had begun sweating like the proverbial sinner in church. The last quarter of the sandwich I decided to heck with it, this cole slaw is white like ranch how bad can it be at cooling off this chicken? It did help a little, but I'm still not seeing the allure to cole slaw on a sandwich.
I think to improve our visit the guy who gave us the run down could have said "our chicken is incredibly spicy and I'd recommend ordering one level of heat lower than you are used to elsewhere and the sliders are more like full sandwiches and the fry box uses a full week's worth of Idaho's potato output, it would probably work well if you two ordered one slider box and one order of fries and split it". At this point I'd likely be at a 4 on this review.
I think I'll give them so time to sort their process and go back - with my own bottle of ranch and ketchup this time! read more
