It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review, especially for a locally owned business but my experience here was the worst dining experience I've had in years. It took 40 minutes for our order and when we checked back in it was clear it had been forgotten. Not a huge deal as accidents happen and I wouldn't bother lowering a rating for that. But when we got the food it was insultingly bad. Bacon was pink and limp and even if it was precooked it was barely cooked at that. Rolls were hard stale baguette pieces, not ciabatta as described. Chicken was thin cut pieces of breast, clearly done to make it stretch. The inside of one of my pieces was black, which I've never even seen on chicken. Lettuce was a wilty gross mess (maybe they were trying to make a slaw out of lettuce?) and there was almost none of it. There was no onion at all. Fries were very undercooked (fairly cooked outside but with a bite to them inside.) I ate one piece of a chicken slice (maybe 3"x1") and one fry. When I asked for my money back, something up to this point I haven't done in my life, the woman at the counter implied I had eaten too much. It's not about the money. It wasn't a pricy sandwich and I had reasonable expectations of the value anyway, but the absolute lack of care was to a degree that even if the food had been edible I wouldn't go back. read more

The Foodie Factory just opened up less than 100 yards away from my apartment, so of course I need to check out every restaurant that ever opens up there. One of the original restaurants that opened up with it is this place, the Local Hen! Cute décor, obviously appealing to Oviedoans, and with a banging looking menu. Would the food be banging, too? Uh yes, it was. I ordered, like I always do when I see a new one, the Classic Chicken & Waffles (Seasoned fried Chicken breast, served with 2 Sugar Pearl Waffles and warm Maple Syrup). And this was a good rendition of it. Two, good-sized, well-breaded chicken breast cutlet patties. Very moist and juicy. Standard pearl waffles, very warm and soft and chewy, crunchy when you run into a pearl, juuust sweet enough. It came with a nice, warm, maple syrup on the side for dipping. I was very happy with it. No complaints. I would like it, though, if they offered a savory version of it. No pearls, maybe some hot sauce dipping sauce. Just throwing it out there. I also got the chance to taste the The Hen's Locals Fried "Messy" Chicken Sandwich (Toasted rustic bread with bacon, dressed lettuce, onions & a drizzle of our pimento cheese sauce. Comes with American Fries). Nice, soft ciabatta roll with the same, nice-sized chicken patty from earlier. Lots of good veg, and a small dollop of that pimento cheese sauce. Could have used more, it was very good! And for funsies, we ordered an extra side of Mac & Cheese. Ooey, gooey, could have used some bread crumbs, but just lovely on the side of this decadent, Southern meal. Overall, this was a wonderful little meal that was even better because it's just a few steps away from my front door, so I can pretty much go back and eat it whenever I want. We came to this casual place based entirely on what I now suspect are fake yelp reviews. We ordered the fried chicken sandwiches which came with fries. What a total disappointment! The ciabata roll the chicken came in wasn't toasted, so it was grossly soggy. The fried chicken was more like a chicken finger, not even covering half the roll. And it wasn't crispy, either. The sandwich came with lettuce, which was completely wilted. I'd be embarrassed serve such a pathetic sandwich. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of zero is because the fries were good. Both I and my husband had the impulse to vomit after eating - it felt like lead weights in our stomachs. have been here multiples times and the experience gets worse each time, however today has hit an all time low. while I can overlook the chicken caesar salad wrap progressively getting smaller with less chicken, I cannot ignore the awful, rude service I dealt with today. after paying for a $13 wrap with a $50 bill I was given only $6 change and had to argue with the cashier about how much I was owed. This was immediately followed by waiting 30 minutes just to be served the wrong food and was met with sass when I asked to just get a refund. The incredibly rude and obviously incompetent cashier that I had dealt with earlier refused to give me a refund despite the error on their end claiming that because the food had been cooked it could not be refunded. Again, the food that I did not order. Since when has insolence become so normalized instead of thoughtful customer service? read more

My first and last time going to this place this evening and I was excited to try the buffalo mac & cheese. It was, by far, the worst tasting mac I've ever had and that is being generous! The chicken tasted like frozen patties thrown in a fryer and drenched in buffalo sauce. I got a Shirley Temple and we got our son a Mermaid Water, which had edible glitter. My husband had the chicken sandwich, I got the chicken tender meal and upgraded to truffle fries, and we got the macaroni and cheese for our son. The chicken sandwich was juicy and crispy, but my husband didn't like the cole slaw on it, which is really just a personal preference. Tried out the new food hall in Oviedo. Starting with The Local Hen. Loved the decor. It was bright, modern and fun. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all excellent. My favorite savory dish were the Hen tostones. They are an appetizer but I would definitely have this as my meal next time. Honorable mention goes to the chocolate cake. I'm not sure how the chef makes this but I don't like chocolate cake and could easily have eaten the entire cake in one sitting. It was heavenly and by far the best chocolate cake I have ever had. I had such a great time at a networking happy hour at The Local Hen, and it great! I wish I could remember the name of the wine I was drinking because it was delicious. I also ordered a small bite which was the perfect portion for me. The sliders were cooked to perfection and had great taste, it left me wanting more!! I've had this place on my radar since I found out it opened. The reviews have me intrigued. Tonight, we got to pull the trigger and order. We did a pick up order and it was ready when I arrived. The restaurant is part of the Foodie Factory in Oviedo. It's a cute, small space with a couple tables inside (plenty of outside seating as well). My eyes immediately went to the chicken & waffles on the menu. I considered the Hen's Local "Messy" Fried Chicken sandwich ( Toasted rustic chibatta bread with bacon, lettuce, onions, and a drizzle of pimento cheese sauce), but went with a dish I know I love. It was served with a warm maple syrup that hit the spot. I'm not sure if the star was the waffles, which were crispy and fluffy, but had an amazing surprise - sugar pearls infused into the waffle. Every bite had a little, sweet, crunchy surprise that just elevated it from a good waffle. The chicken also started. It was crispy, juicy, not over-battered, and had an amazing seasoning blend. It all came together wonderfully! My daughter wasn't that hungry, so she got the kid's nuggets and fries. I tasted hers, as well. The fries were good. Pretty standard. The meal came with a good number of nuggets (she couldn't finish) and were also really tasty. They used the same breading & seasoning and were also nice and juicy. I almost ordered a side of the Cup of Candied Chicken & Bacon (Sweet & Salty Glazed Chicken bits with bacon). I love a good candied bacon, so I am intrigued by a candied chicken! I'm glad we didn't, because we were stuffed from our meals. We will be back!
