I've never been in to a chicken express before as I am not in the area. I went in to get something quick and decided I would try the fish. It was about a five minute wait but it was definitely worth the wait. The fish was breaded well without a lot of excess breading. And the fish itself was flaky and flavorful, not bland like a lot of fast food food fish is. There were two fillets on the order, which was plenty for me. I got the mashed potatoes, which were about what you would expect, but the biscuit was top-notch. It wasn't very big, but it was flaky, buttery, and very flavorful. The prices are about average to what you would expect. The cashier actually smiled and say good afternoon, which in today's terms that ranks up there with great service now. I don't know what the chicken is like here but I highly recommend the fish. Great job. read more

To make the customers pay your credit card terminal fees is a scum bag move. That's the fee you pay to be in business and to word it like your getting a discount if you pay cash is a new low. On 12/26, about 1:30 I stopped in to get a family pack. I was glad they were open. Apparently so were many other folks. The drive-through line snaked around to the entrance on the opposite side of the building. It is good to see a restaurant having a great following. While waiting in line inside, one of the employees started a sneezing fit. You guessed it - on the food. The rolls, fish, tenders and the counter seemed to catch most of it. The fellow finally started sneezing into his hands. Other employees noticed this. The sneezer did RINSE his hands. Obviously management did not see this. I hope managers will review with their teams what to do when this happens. After telling the counter help I saw what happened, I left without buying food. read more

This was our go-to place for take-out chicken until yesterday (Sunday) at about 1:30PM. I know they had an after-church surge, and what food we got was good, BUT . . . (1) after we waited in like to order from our car, gave our fairly large order, and waited some more to pick it up, THEN the guy at the window said, "We're out of thighs." . . . O.K., we'll take a couple of breasts. . . . "We're out of breasts." . . . Uh, OK, please substitute 3-4 chicken tenders for the thighs. . . . "We can't do that." . . . You're out of chicken tenders? . . . "No, but I can't substitute them." The fellow was also having trouble with English. He called another attendant to the window. We finally started over and placed an order. Fast forward thirty minutes to our arrival at a park to enjoy a picnic. NO UTENSILS (for the green beans and coleslaw), just two small napkins, and they forgot my wife's drink. The rest of the food was as expected, but next time we're going to KFC. read more

First time they left something out, this time they charged me for 2 fish filet dinners when all I ordered was 4 filets and then did't even include the sides. Like they didn't on the first trip. Done with these people, worth the drive to Popeye's, better food and smarter employees. No excuse for this, they weren't even busy. Came in around 3pm on Sunday for a quick bite after fishing at inks lake. Food was hot and delicious, service was quick, employees were friendly and the restaurant was very clean. We don't have a chicken express where we're located at, so it was nice to be able to stop into one. And even better that it was a great lunch! I ordered the chicken strips with French fries and my fiancé had the 2 piece thigh plate with jalapeño poppers. I love the Chicken Express in Lakeway, so when I was in Marble Falls for a quick bite, I stopped here to grab chicken strips. The good news is that the chicken strips, once I finally got them, tasted the exact same. The bad news is that they took about 10 minutes or so to get them. I'll be optimistic and say that fresh is better, so there is that. Fries were standard frozen fries and the roll had seen better (and warmer) days. The Lakeway location has self-serve tea refills including sweetener and lemon packets. Not here. You have to ask for any condiment/accessory beyond napkins and ketchup packets. When you combine that along with the busy and frazzled staff, it's a less than welcoming experience. read more

GREAT choice during COVID. The staff were all wearing masks and gloves, service was fast... and everyone was super friendly! The chicken was absolutely amazing, even better than we expected. Eh. It's okay -- at best. We popped in via the drive-through today for a quick snack, and they got 50% of the order wrong. We asked for lemonade, and they gave us tea. We asked regular chicken, and they gave us spicy chicken. And, too, the chicken was stale with us tossing a couple of pieces that tasted near-rancid. But, too, by the time we noticed this and, then, considering Marble Falls (and US 281) on a Saturday afternoon, there was no turning back for $10.81; the now longer line; explaining this to a teenager debuting as a manager; etc. At least, when the dining room was open, one could return to the counter and get something like this easily fixed. I was looking for something to eat on a Sunday in Marble Falls and a suggestion For Chicken Express was made. Ordered my food and presto it arrived as soon as I paid for it. Really fast and good service. Excellent chicken strips, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet tea and gravy. You can put that gravy on anything if you want it to taste better! The fries and macaroni and cheese were ok, which is unusual since these two items are usually the stars of most restaurants. I am a chicken express customer now. read more

Fast! Yummy. Affordable! They actually come out and take orders in line in person to keep it moving! So we go often just for the BEST TEA, 32oz under $1 and sold cheap by the GALLON. PELLET ICE FOR SALE BY BAG! WOOT! On Sunday we actually order chicken and hit the generous special! 16 tenders, 2 sides (we get both as mashed potatoes) rolls or biscuits (rolls are honey top, I love the biscuits) and a gallon of tea, just over $20. Excellent chicken, mashed are not watery (but are peppered), gravy not too spicy for kids. They also run the special on Tuesday, and it can be an 8 piece instead of tenders, but we get the best value for feeding 4-6 (and a relaxing Sunday without breaking the budget) with our order. read more

Staff was really struggling, just completely clueless and frazzled. We could clearly see the manager inside speaking to the staff and seeing her struggle, but failed to step in and help. Horrible service, bland food and lazy employees. Made us wait 5 minutes last visit at the drive thru intercom before coming out to tell us it did not work. After which the girl starts to take the order by MEMORY which was a disaster. Then come to find out they don't "allow" kids to have french fries with their meal, apparently the portion is so small they refuse to make them. We eat out twice a month, when we do all 7 of us eat out and we only do it on grocery day like so many parents I know. Which means we will be eating in the car. What kid wants mashed potatoes, cole slaw or beans with their meal? And what parent will allow their kids to eat this food in the car? You are making fries for 5 older people, why not throw some extra fries in the fryer for the kids? Even the employees admit the practice of no fries on the kids meal is stupid. Their lack of customer service and inability to give the customer the food they want could explain why this place is always empty. I gave this Chicken Express a great review just because of how they handled the huge rush of kids that I pulled in with, but I had to come back and update it. We were all on our way to Camp Eagle for for a week with this group of teens. I found out a few days in that one our campers had left all of her spending money in an envelope in the booth. What I didn't know, was they called and the staff had found the money. 5 days later on the way home we stopped and she walked in and got it back. I've eaten here often and usually enjoy it. The School Special is a good value and the staff is fast and courteous. The chicken tenders here are my favorite over any other "chicken joint". They have always been crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The Cole Slaw is excellent Southern style slaw, pretty sweet but so fresh and crunchy. The rolls are good, gravy is pretty good but most of the fried okra has been overcooked, soggy on outside and "woody tough" inside. Avoid it read more

My family just bought catfish and hush puppies. They were nasty. The fish is so salty you can't eat it. The hush puppies are hard as rocks. Our side was supposed to be a family french fry, but they gave us a small. We found all this out when we got home in Spicewood, TX. Your food is usually alot better.
