The food, service and quality of the ambiance hasn't changed since moving to their new location and I love that so much! First time since trying the new location and it's just as good if not better! Their new location is beautiful! Bar and entire restaurant look brand new and they still have some of the same wonderful staff members it looks like! Congrats on your new location! Food came out fast and hot. I thought it was pretty good. The green sauce was way better than the red. The chips were thick but ok. I got the chili rellano stuffed with chicken it came with one enchilada rice and beans. The tortillas were homemade and wonderful. The inside was nearly renovated and nice. Ambiance very good, remodeling some noise. The plate I got had way too much breading (chile relinous?) around the pepper, beans were tasteless and not right consistency . Rice seemed like instant. This is the second time in a row my family and friends wanted to go to El jimador, it is also the second time I have explicitly explained that I have Celiac, asked questions, and explained everything possible. That said it is also the second time it has made sick before I even made it out of the restaurant. Met my BFF for an all important brunch catch up. Our usual place was closed so we checked out El Jimador. Fairly busy; most tables were occupied or not bussed. Had to ask for a table to be cleaned in fact so we could dine. Bartender/server was attentive; he was also the one that bussed the table. We arrive around 10am so I couldn't decide to go lunch or breakfast..why not both! Migas taco to start which was the best bites of the day at least for me. The next dish is a personal favorite if done right. My love affair with shrimp enchiladas started early in life in a now long closed Mexican Louie's in Drippin' Springs. They used ranchero with government cheese. Strange combination but it worked. Other contenders for best in the area is Mamacita's in Fredricksburg/Kerrville. That's a scampi cream sauce with cilantro added. Well, EJ's won't be adding to that dreamy creamy list. Tough tortillas! Not enough sauce and cheese; ample application would have made it a better dish. But it wasn't meant to be for this visit. Three stars for the brunch taco offering but I'd never go back for that shrimp enchilada plate. read more

Excellent food and prices! My husband and I had #34 on the menu. It was 4 enchiladas, (chicken, hamburger, cheese and bean), plus moist rice and great refried beans for only $9.99! Which is great with our economy right now! We also ordered cheese dip and they brought a bowl of white quaso that was super yummy! The waitress was very attentive and had our food to us very quickly. The restaurant was clean and had a bar, too. The parking lot was full of cars when we came in and when we left. You won't be disappointed with the food here and the prices are very reasonable. read more

While waiting for my car repairs at Colonial Auto, I was looking for a place to have coffee. After reading mixed reviews of El Jimador, I decided to give it a try; primarily due to its close proximity. I ordered the Omelette and coffee. I found the staff friendly and my coffee cup never went empty. The coffee was hot (not McDonalds hot but hot) and I enjoyed several cups. Breakfast was good and I loved the green hot sauce. More food than I could eat (that's saying something for a guy my size). I look forward to trying the lunch menu on my next visit. read more

First time I came in, I wasn't expecting much. It's certainly not fancy but it was spotlessly clean so I decided to give it a try. For the last year, I've been eating there several times a month. The food is good. Not fancy or "gourmet" but just good basic Tex Mex. So many choices-very big menu with full meals, light entrees, and a la carte selections. I usually have a chili relleno or enchiladas. Portion sizes on the entrees are very generous. AND, this is the shocker, their Margaritas are good! They too are very generous size. A regular size one is more than enough for me. A friend ordered the large and couldn't finish it. The waiters are friendly and kept the chip basket, salsa cup and water glasses full Now the most surprising part. My regular order of a Combo Plate and a regular Margarita is about $13 every week. You can't do better price-wise anywhere else. read more

We are locals and really didn't give this place enough of a try when it first opened. However, we find ourselves there several times a month now for their fajitas and margaritas. The fajita meat is great, but the homemade tortillas make it even better! Parking is a pain because they are well liked, so we usually have to circle a fee times or park down the road. We dine here occasionally. We like the carne guisada. All the chicken dishes are full of oregano. The salsa too. We don't care for oregano in Mexican food. We waited 20 minutes after our drink order was taken. We did get our drinks but the staff walked by our table multiple times, looked at us, and kept walking. We left. We'll never go back. This family run restaurant is a great value. Because it is so popular, their service can be a bit slow on a crowded Sunday. But the food is hot fresh and tasty. It is a different flavor than most Mexican restaurants in this area. The prices are very reasonable. Have not tried takeout. But look forward to going back. We heard this restaurant has a few good food options and came highly recommended, but we wish we would've eaten elsewhere. We waited 10+ minutes for our drink order to be taken, 10+ minutes later we received our drinks, and after about 45 minutes of total wait time we received (partially) our food with no forks. We waited another 10 minutes to get forks so we could begin eating only to find our tortillas were dried out and the food was not as ordered. Service is very slow and there is a lack of communication between staff members to allow things to run smoothly in the restaurant. In addition to the slow service, stale tortillas, and lack of needed supplies, the restaurant feels to be approximately 80 degrees inside in the middle of the Texas summer. We would not visit again and recommend to others to try nearby restaurants. read more

It is a cozy family restaurant with Tejano music playing. Bottom line, the frozen margarita was tasty and the daily special chicken fajitas were delicious. We ordered takeout & the restaurant even read the order back to us. My husband drove from Buchanan to Marble Falls to pick up. The to-go boxes were counted & they were short an order. They reread it & missed the nachos. They not only got our order wrong but the food was horrible. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to Mexican food. The lettuce was wilted, like it had been frozen then thawed. The beans & rice were bland. The supreme nachos were dry, like they threw lettuce & chunks of cheese on some chips with very little meat. The burrito meat was dry & overcooked. We ordered 2 Durango Chicken with Cheese & Shrimp & got some kind of fatty meat mixture. See photo. The taco salad shell was burnt & tasteless.
