Having not been to a Chicken Express since high school I thought this would be an awesome experience. It was during the meal... but right after I threw up walking to my car. Figuring maybe I was getting sick I chalked it up to that as the food was very tasty. About a month later I was in the area and I went back. The exact same thing happened. I'm not sure what it is in the spicy tenders/ corn poppers/ mashed potatoes but it sure didn't work well for me. For someone that can do anything spicy on the planet these chicken tenders had me feeling like I left a college kegger. Maybe the grease? Maybe something in the batter that didn't work? First time coming here and it was a great experience. I was even given a complimentary combo meal the next time I came back. Very friendly waitress and overall excellent customer service and readiness of my large food order. I recommend this location to anyone who loves Chicken Express. It will not dissapoint you. They even have a drive-in similar to what Sonic has--where you can stay parked and eat in your car. Very impressed! read more

This is my new American style fried chicken spot. The manager, JC, let me and my friend in about 30 minutes before opening, and hooked us up with a number one plus more chicken and rolls. It was my first time trying Chicken Express after my friend told me about it. The chicken strips were juicy and flavorful especially since it was the first batch. The corn nuggets were to die for. Normally good service. I hated to drive off after placing a order but after 25 minutes I'm pretty sure they forgot my order.

Very very slow. That's all I have to say. The customer service is nice and friendly, but they need to hire more people or work that drive through system out! Because your order will be ready before the car in front of you and half the time the waitress will stand there asking the other car in front of you to pull around or asking what order they had, meanwhile your food is getting cold. I'm currently at the Midway/Frankford location, where I've just received probably the best fast food customer experience of my life. I was offered a discount because there was a short wait before the cashier could take my order, of which I declined to take advantage, and a free small drink for what was only a 4-5 minute wait on my food. The cashier was very attentive, polite, kind, and seemed interested in engaging with the patrons. He even asked me about my t-shirt! I wish I had some cash to leave a tip. I highly recommend the chicken strips. They're seasoned well, and the white gravy they come with is delectable! My family stopped here once while we were on a road trip when I was a young teenager, and the food was so good that I still remembered it when I tracked down the restaurant over ten years later. read more

We are liking Chicken Express. It's fast food but you have several choices of side items most of which are pretty good. Their tenders have a good sized portion of meat and are always hot. The catfish is not the best ever but pretty good considering you are at a chicken place. They have excellent self serve sweet tea and the price is fair. If you are not a big eater you could split the bigger tender dinner that is offered. Overall has been a good experience the times we've been. read more

I've lived in this area for many years and frequent this location a lot. I usually don't post reviews but felt this place needs a shout out! First of all whether calling in an order or dining in, the people are always friendly and professional. The food is always fresh and oh so good. My mom loves the livers and I'm a fan of the chicken and fish. But what makes this location exceptional is their customer service. I placed an order thru Postmates and received the wrong food. Now I could have emailed Postmates and waited for someone to get back to me, and that would have probably taken forever. Instead, I called Chicken Express and advised the manager I would just come pick up my order and deal with Postmates later. However, the manager said not to worry, he would have one of HIS employees deliver my food. It was there within 15 mins and he even threw in a couple of cookies. Talk about beyond pleased. But this is just the kind of service I've come to expect from this establishment. Whenever there's an issue they always go above and beyond to make the customer happy. There are a lot of food places in this area, but the employees of this particular Chicken Express outshine them all when it comes to customer service. Kuddos to my Midway Chicken Express! The establishment was very clean, the restroom spotless, and the customer service was awesome! The atmosphere is family oriented since they play Christian music on their speakers making it a peaceful environment. The food was fresh. I'm trying to figure out why this location doesn't dry their fish to order. You know people don't order fish often, and the customers know it too. We will wait to get some fresh fish. The last few times the fish has been "hot light" warm. I told one of the "car hop" ladies to tell them that they should probably send people hot food. Well, the last time I went (which is why I'm writing this review) is because I specifically asked nicely if they could make me some fresh fish and told the guy (who was dressed in a button down shirt do I assumed he was the manager) that I would even wait on the fresh fish. Don't you know these people had me wait on fish that was "hot light" warm. Are you freaking kidding me? The corn on the cob was piping hot, as always, but the fish, not so much. You don't think I know when something just came out of the grease? I am so done with them. I'm not sure how hot the tenders are, but if you want warm fish, here's your place. The food is ok. I will say that a large majority of the time the chicken in the tasting like liver and gizzards since they fry it all in the same oil and that turns me off. I think the chicken would be a lot tastier if they used to separate oil. read more

Tenders are a little salty for my taste but I like the gravy, not too chunky and not too runny.

This location is not one of the good ones. I've been here a few times over the last few weeks hoping that I just stopped in on a bad day but unfortunately not. Everything is consistently over cooked. The chicken is dry and the rolls are always dark brown and dry instead of the golden and moist they are at most other locations. Chicken Express is generally one of my favorite lunch spots. The location in The Colony is always fantastic. And the radio system is always full of static!!! read more

I love the chicken tenders, the mash potatoes, and the best seasoning powder ever. I usually just pour one packet into the gravy, and one on to the mash potatoes, and that makes all my chicken express dreams come true. I'm not sure, but I don't believe their green beans are on their menu, but they do serve them, and they are delicious. The people that work here are always friendly, and the sweet tea is definitely worth a large cup size. The bread rolls should have an award given to them though, you can't just have one. The chicken is tasteless, no flavor at all. The corn is boiled until all the flavor is replaced with water. The catfish is under-cooked and without any flavor. They use no seasoning at all in the coatings on the fish or chicken but give you a pack of seasoned salt, what a stupid idea. Seems the french fries are cooked in batches about an hour or so before they are served, very nasty sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The only thing with any flavor seems to be the hush puppies. Way over priced and about the worst chicken or fish you can find...better to pass up on trying this place. read more

Every time I go here, they get the order wrong. Went about a year ago when they first opened, and I was missing a side I paid for. Called the store, the manager gave me a free order. Went back for the free order, and was missing a side again! OK, my fault for not opening the box, but still. A year later...order a three piece chicken to go...get home and have two pieces. How hard is it to count chicken pieces? The manager took my order outside, while one of his workers comes out flirting/pouting with him about something I couldn't nor cared to hear. Teen age drama means I can't get what I order? I'll never, ever go here again. At least KFC knows how to count. read more

Chicken Express is one of the few fast food places that I will eat at. I know, I'm kind of a food snob. The livers and gizzards on the menu really freak me out, but I'm sure it's delicious for some people. I get chicken tenders every time. The fries don't appear that appealing, but looks are deceiving because they are so good! It's tough to decide between the roll or biscuit option, this has been a much debated issue, but I go biscuit every time. The strawberry smoothie, which I am sure is loaded with sugar and has no nutritional value, is AMAZING. Love it. No other fast food smoothies can even begin to compare. The last two times I visited this Chicken E, they forgot my biscuit. Boo. The first time, I turned around and went back, but the second time I checked the box before leaving. i am what you would call a chicken whore...i do anything for a good piece of fried chicken which means driving out of the way to get my fix...lets cut to the chase...got the #1...chicken tenders were very good, comparable to golden chick, ce batter is a little more flavorful....got the biscuit kinda doughy, if ce had golden chicks rolls oh me oh my...mashed potatoes were pretty good had those big black pepper flakes reminded me of school dayz....but for some reason the gravy is like crack...not too thick and not too watery...wow i tore that shiet up....the sweet tea is comparable to golden chick and chick filas which i think are all really good....total was like 6 sometin bucks with tax....i feel a fix coming on read more

I went here for an Amex promotion for Small Business Saturday with the incentive if I spend $10, they'll give me $10 credit on my next statement. I ordered the 7 finger combo with family sized mashed potatoes which was a little under $12 and wow that was a lot of food. I eat a lot too but I didn't finish the last 2 fingers. I didn't find anything special about their chicken fingers though and asked for a biscuit and got a roll. Their mashed potatoes were pretty good though, I don't find many that are already peppered. Their sweet tea was pretty bomb but I still prefer Chick-Fil-A, Raising Canes, or Zaxby's. The setup was pretty weird too - you order through the drive thru but someone brings out your food and if you pay by card there is a line for tip so I didn't know what to do. I tipped because I assume that line is there for a reason but I thought this was fast food? I mean Sonic has a similar set up but if I pay by card, there is no option to tip unless I want to give additional cash. Not sure I would go back when there are so many chicken options that are among the same price ranges. read more

Food is good on most days though we've found not always hot when arriving home. The service leaves a lot to be desired as almost always on our twice monthly to-go order of 3 combo dinners, a side is wrong or omitted, 3 strips when 4 ordered, or roll left out. Unfortunately it's gotten to the point where we no longer use the drive-through so we can check the order at the counter before leaving store. On every occasion that these screw-ups have occurred, when I've called from home the mgr has made good on it providing replacement meals on next visit.
