Absolutely my guilty pleasure!! The restaurant is small and located on Portsmouth . They have recently remodeled and installed iPads to order and checkout for quicker service. I also get sushi. Chick n Roll used to be the restaurant I recommended everyone to try. It was my favorite- I came at least once a week from Virginia Beach to eat here! It was my favorite restaurant in Hampton Roads About a year ago we had an order that was just not good. The sushi did not taste fresh and it was soggy, very very heavy on the rice. The chicken was hard, tough and barely sauced. I had been 5 more times since then and the quality has still been bad but now the service is unfriendly. The younger workers we've encountered at the counter tend to scowl, sulk and are overall unhelpful when ordering or asking questions and it makes the entire experience uncomfortable. Still a solid place. We like to come here for quick lunch dates as they are close by and give great food. They're streamlined their ordering process through the machines in front of the register. Lately we've been playing with the chicken bites. They are good because they are simple and quite clean. The only thing starts to get kind 'meh' is when you realize that's a lotta dang breading. I've been hearing about this place since it opened, but we don't get over to Portsmouth often. I'll definitely be making more regular trips for this! They were practically empty at noon on a rainy Saturday, and we were directed that we could pick a table if dining in and order when we're ready. The worst part about this place is deciding what to order because the menu has a wide variety and EVERYTHING sounds good. The food came out very quickly, and not a single person at our table was disappointed with anything. I got the CNR Soy Garlic chicken sandwich with fries. Everything about the meal was perfect... the chicken was super crispy and well coated in the soy garlic sauce. The toppings wonderfully balanced with the chicken. The fries were hot and crispy. Our table also tried a few of the chicken and sushi combos, and I think I'll try that next time to test out a few menu items. Sophia and I made the drive to check out this little spot. They've been around a bit churning out items from wings to even sushi. Recently, they opened up another location in Chesapeake, which we'll check out down the road. Would our first visit be thumbs up or meh? We were greeted by the host once we walked in. He said we could take a seat and once we're ready, place our order at the counter. The decor inside was really nice with a few tables and artwork on the walls. There's even a station for takeout boxes, utensils, sauce packets and also a water station. Two thumbs up for yours truly. For my order, I chose a medium order of soy garlic wings (12 total) with a side of steak fries and Matcha milk tea with brown sugar jelly tapioca. This was very good. The wings were cooked perfectly and had just enough soy garlic where it wasn't overpowering. A slight crunch with every bite. The steak fries were pretty good as well. I don't know what dipping sauce they had as a side, but thumbs up. A sweet taste with a bit of a kick. You can even use it on wings if you want. Liked the matcha boba tea as a beverage. Both of us (Sophia ordered the same with french fries) got full halfway so we took it home. And it was just as good. I can definitely see why this place has pretty good reviews. I was still half asleep, but definitely hungry, and walked into this cute lil place called Chick N' Roll! I think what woke me up was reading the appetizers. They had shrimp tempura, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, shumai, and inari! I was surprised! Lol. I ordered the potato croquettes. If you've had gamja salad (the korean banchan potato salad), imagine it coated in panko bread crumbs and deep fried, with a drizzle of eel sauce. It warmed up my tummy for sure. For my entree, I ordered a lil combo that included a roll of choice (I got the salmon crunch roll) with a half pound of soy garlic chicken and French fries. My partner got the Sweet & Savory sauce on his chicken and it reminded me of Peck & Pour's Sweet Spicy Sauce we washed our food down with a strawberry lemonade and a lavender milk tea. This was my first time visiting Chick N Roll. I'm not a frequenter of Portsmouth, but they didn't disappoint. It's a cute restaurant that's easy to find, and they weren't busy at all. We were the only dine-in customers there last night. The service was friendly too. It's the best of both worlds if you like sushi and Korean chicken. After ordering at the counter, we went to the self-service area to get utensils, napkins, and condiments. Our food came out SUPER fast! I don't even know if we waited 5 minutes. However, the chicken and fries were hot and fresh. I would prefer warm sushi rice, but it was tasty. The seaweed salad was delicious and a good serving portion. 3.5 STARS! Went here for lunch to try it out after seeing good reviews. No one greeted us when we came in and I wasn't sure the process. There are self order kiosks so that is what we used. The food was fresh and the servings are fairly large. We got a chicken sandwich and the boneless chicken. The sauce was good but will try the spicy next time. There is adequate seating and it was not crowded for lunch. It would be nice to have the option of a fountain drink instead of a bottle though we got the lemonade. Definitely a fan of Chick N Roll. I've been here about three times this year so far and I have enjoyed each and every time. I'm not usually one that will opt for a "Order at the counter first" type of establishment, but it works out for this place. It's so tempting to order just so much food because it's all so good! I like doing the chick n roll combo, usually gravitating towards the spicy tuna roll and the soy garlic chicken bites. The sushi and the Takoyaki here are pretty good, and their boba tea is also awesome. Every person that I've encountered here has been very helpful and sweet. I even went here to do some work while I ate, and it was the perfect place for that. I will definitely have to come here again in the next year, and hopefully more before the year is out. read more

I DON'T LIKE SUSHI - something I'm working on branching out and trying more of. A California roll is safe for me (not raw!) I enjoyed it a lot and LOVED the crunch. My sushi loving husband said it was good too. We also got a small order of wings, I loved how crispy they were (also theyre pretty big!). Once order was placed found my self a seat. They brought out my Thai tea first, I don't know what it was but the taste was very different from any other one I've had before, there was a hint of banana or something else, prolly wouldn't order again but the food was 10/10. The pork dumplings had to be the best I've ever had, they were crispy on the outside but still soft and no hard edges when biting down, and flavor was on point. Pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Drove by and saw the sign and decided to come back for a try as the ratings were good. Well, the ratings were accurate. EVERYTHING was great. We got the Soy Garlic wings since they are our go to flavor. They were crispy and had a great crunch. It also had a hint of a ginger flavor, but it wasn't overpowering the taste thankfully as I'm not a big ginger fan at all. We also got the fries, pickled onions and cucumbers, coleslaw, & dumplings. I really enjoyed the coleslaw because it was rich and not heavy on the mayo. The service was great and the waitress often visited us for refills and checking on us. The way it works is you grab a menu and order at the register and pay, you sit and they bring it to you. Surprisingly we didn't sit too long and they brought our food out to us quickly. The sushi is a little above grocery store quality in my opinion. I feel the main focus here is how good this chicken is! They can fry! It is a self serve type restaurant. I only ate a few pieces and I was already full. When I came in, i was quite confused of their service. You have to place your order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table.
