I've always loved Bonchon Chicken, so I was honestly so excited when they finally opened in Norfolk! I used to drive all the way to Northern Virginia whenever I was craving Bonchon, so having one much closer to home is such a treat. Their chicken is always crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. My favorites are definitely the Garlic and Soy Garlic flavors. The crispy texture combined with that savory, slightly sweet sauce is absolutely addictive! If you love Korean fried chicken, Bonchon is definitely one of my favorites. Now that there's one in Norfolk and Virgina beach, I don't have to make the trip to Northern Virginia just to satisfy my craving! The food is delicious, but the Norfolk location can have long waits, slow service, and occasional issues with online ordering. Parking is also difficult. I prefer the Virginia Beach location for easier parking and a more convenient experience. read more

We used to love BonChon in a different state and decided to try this location after moving. Honestly, we weren't super impressed. This particular location is very quaint and loud, we were given dirty plates, the service was slow, our chicken tenders didn't have a lot of flavor, and the pork buns were not right (over-toasted and the meat was too tough). The bulgogi fries were delicious though, so points for that. We may try another location, but we won't be back to this one. read more

Horrible experience.. I ordered $75 fried rice for 12 people and they gave me 2 containers.. my wife and I finished the containers. I guess we're considered "12" people.. what a scam. I also ordered the street corn for 12 people for $35 and they gave me 1 container! The ONLY good thing from this horrible experience is their store manager Xavier who helped as much as he could. Dropped by this location- honestly just because I couldn't decide what I wanted for lunch and Ya Ya's is near by so I was initially heading there. Then I stumbled upon a lunch special - and I love a deal. I ordered 6 wings with a side of white rice and added some ranch (came to approximately $14). I should have skipped the ranch because it wasn't needed at all. The flavor of the wings, sweet with a tiny bit of spice, and the CRUNCHINESS! Absolutely delicious. After going to a Bon Chon near DC for the first time last month, we were excited to find there was one close to home! The Bon Chon is Norfolk was awful in comparison. They have a sign that says Happy Hour 4-7 crossing out with 4:30-6:30pm as the correct time. We arrive a little after 5pm for the waitress to tell us they actually don't have happy hour at all. We order the bao buns and the chicken on them was 1/4 of the chicken we had received in DC and there was no sauce on them. The fries portion was also half of the portion at the other location. With no happy hour, we paid significantly more for SIGNIFICANTLY less. For a chain restaurant there is absolutely no uniformity. Not to mention the waitress made my mother in law a second drink when we didn't ask for it and then charged us for that drink. False advertising and sub par food. So upsetting cause they do have good wings but we ended up not even ordering any after seeing the other portions of things. won't be back. read more

They still have the best Korean Fried Chicken, and I would only recommend carring it out. My last experience dinning in was disappointing. Several items on the menu we wanted to order were not available and the server was not aware of this when we ordered. The server forgot part of our order, and the fried rice was burned. The place seemed understaffed with the server frequently apologizing for what might happen, instead of what did happen. Sticky tables and the place is looking old and worn. And it wasn't a slow kitchen thing either I watched at least half a dozen door dash drivers pick up orders. Probably not worth going to unless your ordering wings because at least they have to give you the amount of wings you ordered. I got the bulgogi bowl... flavor was good however the fried egg was extremely runny ( I hate runny eggs). The rice, or what was supposed to be rice was mush. I've been going to this location since they first opened. Until recently, they opened another location and wasn't pleased so came back to this one. I came her with the wife and kids on a Thursday evening before the JoKoy show and has an hour to spare. Knowing the chicken takes about 15 minutes or so to make, we still wanted to eat here. WARNING: The spicy potstickers are no joke! Bonchon had really amazingly delicious food! They were pretty busy at dinner, so the food came out a bit slow. Everything was bursting with flavor. I especially loved the pork belly steam buns. The only downside was the service. Giving some grace because it was busy, our server was especially inattentive, mumbly, and seemingly annoyed when I asked her to repeat what she said because I couldn't hear. We were told when we were seated that drinks from the bar were 30% off, but when we got our check, they weren't discounted. The wings were warm. Everything else was room temperature. This was confusing considering there were only two other people dining. If we're coming to a place that is known for KFC it would be best to serve your guests with HOT chicken. As we tasted the food we'd consider the wings a 7.5/10. I've had authentic Korean Fried Chicken and it came pretty close. It definitely should be fried harder. The corn was mediocre. The coleslaw was mediocre. I would've loved to substitute this for kimchi. Although the bulgogi fries weren't the warmest they were probably the best thing on the plate. The spiciness of the sauce compliments the oily fry, the seasoned bulgogi, the cheese pull, and the zing of the spring onion. The service was ok. Nothing extravagant but nothing that warrants a terrible review. They played R&B/hip hop during our visit which we appreciated. I only rate it a 4 because of the warmth of our food. read more

I don't think I would have been so displeased with my order if it wasn't for the lack of care when I went to pay for and pick up my order. There seemed to be no sense of urgency between four workers to retrieve my order from the kitchen and I stood around for about five minutes after having asked to pay to two different people. Finally one person stepped in and was very helpful and proactive, but by this point, my food was already cold. He helped set up a table for a party of 17 and accommodated all of our questions especially those who have never been here. Loved it! Wait time I would say, average. We were a big party and their food was freshly fried. Udon noodles I had was lovely and comforting. A little bit on the sweet side for me, but definitely something to enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen, you have to try this! The fries are perfectly fried, seasoned, and the bulgogi is layered on top of the fries. I've had a little bit of Korean fried chicken lately, most notably at a small restaurant in Hampton. But Bon Chon is the big name with many locations around the country. On a Friday night, I was able to snag a small table against the wall and I went with the small combo, which is 9 pieces of drumsticks and wings: half and soy garlic sauce and half spicy and it was a great contrast of flavors. The spicy ones had my mouth pretty lightened up though, I needed a couple of breath mints later to get over it. It probably took another 20 or 30 minutes for all the heat to fade. The drumsticks and wings were rather large, BonChon definitely doesn't skimp on the size. The skin was super crispy, I'm willing to bet they use rice flour in the breading. For my side, I went with the pickled radish over the Japanese cole slaw and it was decent, but it acted as more of a palate cleanser, it didn't really have much flavor to it besides vinegar. But I did get a side of steamed rice for another $2.25 and it was a welcome addition. I think if anything, a little more of that soy garlic sauce would have complimented the rice beautifully. For drinks, I got a sweet tea along with a canned vodka and soda mix that they're currently selling. I liked the black cherry flavor. The taste reminded me of a hard seltzer, but still less than 5% alcohol. Good place to stop in with good food. It's not large by any stretch, so you might want to get the food to go, if you can. read more

The chicken didn't have the coating of crunchy exterior that I remember, but they were good nonetheless. The pickled radishes were on point and a nice palate cleanser. I ordered the bulgogi bibimbap with kimchi on the side. My bibimbap was dry. I didn't know it was supposed to come with a sauce until I looked on Yelp after my meal. I didn't get the sauce. I put the kimchi in it to help sauce it up a little. It was alright. The bulgogi meat was dry as well. Everyone else at my table got the bulgogi dinner and remarked the same. It was dry. And that's kinda hard to eat by itself with rice. The bathrooms were literally hit/miss. My sister went to one bathroom and said it was really gross and the toilet didn't work.
