Normally don't eat meat & so can't remember the last time I ate chicken. Must have been literally years ago. BUT, I'm a Libertarian so when U.S. Mayors around the country started saying a privately-run business would not be permitted to operate new stores in their major metropolitan cities just because they didn't like the personal views of the company's founder, I leapt in to action. I ate at Chik-Fil-A in West Hollywood almost every day for 2 weeks to show my support for private enterprise and personal liberty -- and to fight BIG Government.
And here's what I discovered: THIS CHICKEN SANDWICH IS FABULOUS!! And they make the best commercial lemonade I've ever had anywhere, hands down. The chicken is brined, the way I used to prepare Thanksgiving Turkey when I ate meat regularly. Anyone who's ever brined a turkey or chicken knows this makes the meat succulent, moist and flavorful. The classic Chik-Fil-A sauce is a mix of honey-mustard and BBQ sauce -- 2 of my favorite sauces. And the fresh lettuce/tomatoe/pickle is very high quality.
I am SO glad I didn't know about Chik-Fil-A when I was a regular meat-eater. This is the highest quality fast food I've ever encountered. And I can see how people in the South get so big: this is delicious but certainly not lo-cal (the chicken breast is brined, breaded, and fried). But it's not a greasy meal. Just tasty & fattening!
Well, one must make sacrifices for one's principles, so I'm very glad I turned out to fight BIG Government and to support freedom of speech, freedom of religious worship, private enterprise and personal liberty. There were occasional folks demonstrating AGAINST Chik-Fil-A who were ALSO exercising their principles and their rights to free speech. That's what makes America great! But when elected officials tried to deny Chik-Fil-A those rights.... well, them's fightin' words!
This food is so fabulous, I noticed Chik-Fil-A in West Hollywood was rockin' and rollin' throughout the entire 2 weeks. Looked like a little United Nations, and there were a surprising number of Mercedes Benz & BMWs going through the drive-thru. This place appeals to everyone - well, almost. I haven't canvassed my gay friends, but some of them might have joined the picketers. One more thing: the service was astonishing: fast, polite, friendly, upbeat. And if you eat there, they give you endless refills on whatever your drink is: soda, lemonade, coffee, iced tea, etc. Not many places offer this all 'round high quality value for money. Now I'm back on the vegetable wagon, but I'll still stop by for an ice-cold lemonade in these dog days of summer. And next time I have to cater a casual event with meat eaters, Chik-Fil-A will be just the ticket. read more
