Light, Dark and naked wings. I will start with sides. The greens, better than I ever had including AL, MS, LA and TN. Slaw was classic LA. Good, I am vinger slaw guy. Now for the chicken. First and foremost the medium is no joke HOT. Anyone can make something hot. But the flavor of the hotness is world class. Whatever they do, (brine whatever) the flavor is deep in the meat, including the breast. Absolutely fantastic. My only advice is if you find a raw jalapeno to hot, go one level down in spice. Unless you can set an eat raw Serranos, don't pay .$50 to go spicier. Who would have thought, amazing hot chicken, Indy.

It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

I don't remember the dish ware but it was appropriate. I also remember a celery and radish plate along with nice table decoration. Well, that is a memory busted. We were met when we walked in and seated at a cafeteria table. No décor, no table cloth and a menu that says white chicken dinner is $38.95. We had a lovely server who was accommodating as she could be but she was serving to large parties. One was about 16 people the other 12 and then our little party of 4 We ordered drinks but my friend ordered gin and tonic. They brought 2 different drinks, never tasting good and settled on a coke We asked about an offering on the menu. Turns out it is $29.99 for mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans. No chicken. We asked how many pieces are served in a chicken order and our server noted 2 or 3. We saw liver and gizzards and our server said they could make them a dinner ($29.99). We ordered those and it was a full dinner plate full. More than we could eat Eating on the "folding table" we were served food on Walmart dishware. They used to bring peppermint ice cream or syrup for a Sunday. It was served in a serving nice bowl. Now you get chocolate, butterscotch or strawberry in a squeeze bottle. Just another thing to cheapen the experience. Will I go back again? No way, after experiencing the before and after it is like going to a business that is struggling at the expense of the customer experience. I believe we could have eaten in Popeyes and had just as good of an experience $100 cheaper. Another Indianapolis tradition like Ayres tearoom slipping away.

The parking lot is a mess and the sidewalks are crumbling. Chris is a small hole in the wall place, not fancy or upscale, but the food is amazing and Chris' family is welcoming and genuine. The menu hangs above cases of fried chicken, fish and potato wedges. Gizzards are a popular menu item. Chris takes your order. My husband wants a 3-piece chicken meal with cole slaw. I select a Buffalo chicken wrap that comes with fries. Ricardo, Chris' son, comes out and asks how spicy hot I want my chicken and I ask for mild. Wow, what great service! They tell us to grab some drinks and have a seat. The dining area is small with three or four tables that seat two. Most people come in for carry out. Chris laughs and jokes with a customer in Spanish as he cooks. I sip mango nectar. My husband's 3-piece meal has four pieces of fried chicken with a cup of cole slaw. The chicken is hot, crispy and moist, not too salty, perfect. The fried batter is thick and flavorful. This is great fried chicken. The slaw is finely chopped and creamy. My wrap with fries comes out on a beautiful white platter. The wrap is huge, and the chicken fresh, hot and moist with lots of crispy lettuce. The fries are batter fried and fresh. The portions are generous. My meal was delicious. Ricardo and his sister checked on us a couple times, thanked us for coming and told us their story. I felt like family. The food is easy 5 stars, as is the service. I'll be back. I want to try the fish next.

I recommend doing that because their standard buffalo sauce (which was alright) was the worst of the sauces that I sampled. I ordered hot honey wings and loaded fries. The restaurant consists of a take-out counter so you have to place your order to go, which takes about 10 minutes. They have a couple of picnic tables outside. Chilly Water Brewing is across the street if you get bored waiting for your order. There isn't a parking lot so you have to park on the street. Chicken, with wings, drums, and tenders offered in several heat levels. I went with the Curry tenders (medium), and my husband chose the Hot Honey wings (also medium). Both delivered exactly the right amount of heat--noticeable but not overwhelming. The crunch factor was definitely there, and the chicken itself was moist and flavorful. Sides are ordered separately, so we added onion rings. They were large and looked great, though they were just okay for me. Portions, however, were huge. Our total was around $32, which felt a bit pricey, but the amount of food made up for it. Honestly, we could have shared one entrée if we ever agreed on the same thing. They do serve beer, milk teas, and smoothies too, but we took our order home and enjoyed our own drinks. The atmosphere inside is casual with a giant screen playing K‑Pop videos, which adds a fun vibe if you dine in. Overall, I liked it and would return--next time with fewer items or more people to help tackle those portions.

Have you ever had an occasion where you really built up an experience and convinced yourself it was…read moregoing to be awesome only to be kind of, well, let down? I must admit that's kind of what happened with tonight's visit at the new Raising Cane's in Castleton. Raising Cane's acquired the space formerly inhabited by the old Lifeway Bookstore. That building was torn down. A Raising Cane's was built in its place. Raising Cane's is a definite upstart chain having started in 1996 in Louisiana. Founder Todd Graves first proposed the restaurant a couple years earlier in a business class - the proposal received the lowest grade in the class. After all, who really would want a restaurant that only serves chicken fingers? Apparently, a lot of people. I'm a relative newbie to Raising Cane's, though I have been to the Avon, Indiana location a handful of times. And yes, it serves nearly exclusively chicken fingers - with the exception, I believe, of one chicken sandwich that I believe is actually comprised of chicken fingers. Now then, I also have to acknowledge that tonight I was hoping for something special. It's my birthday today. I'd contemplated going someplace where I'd get a freebie, however, when I saw Raising Cane's was open I knew I wanted to try it. I figured maybe I could sign up for a club or reward? Maybe I could get a dessert to celebrate? Nope and nope. It started off a little weird. There's a traffic guy in the parking lot helping to direct traffic. There's a two-lane drive-thru and parking along the side with a handful of spots directly in front of the building including two accessible spots. This guy, while friendly, was so chaotic I found myself worried an accident would happen. Plus, the parking is narrow enough that he encourages you to back into the spot. The other issue was that he never seemed to grasp I was a wheelchair user and pulled me back into a spot where I didn't have room on the side. I had to pull up and back again to force the issue - it was only when I got out that he seemed to grasp I needed to park next to the blue stripes. So yeah, that was weird and frustrating. I decided to dine in - again, hoping for a bit of a birthday thrill and time to relax. The decor is very Indy - lots of high school and college banners. You go up to the counter, order, and then they call your name (though sometimes also seem to bring it out). They call your name - LOUDLY. The acoustics are already a little tinny and the extra noise was a bit overwhelming. That said, I had a couple different people who were quite good in customer service and that deserves mentioning. There's some tables and booth/tables. I found the end of a table where I could park myself. Drinks are self-serve (large lids are far out of reach of most folks in a wheelchair). I ordered a Three-Finger Combo - three fingers (you probably guessed that), fries bread, and drink. You can upsize the drink for $.30. As is true for most chicken places, they do have both sweet and unsweetened iced tea. The food was good. Fries are crinkle cut. I'm not totally sold on Raising Cane's sauce for dipping the fingers (I didn't see other options). I did like the chicken fingers. I kind of have a feeling that those with sensory issues may get a bit overwhelmed here. There's a couple disco balls attached from the ceiling - they don't twirl or anything - between those and the noise level, it's definitely a bit overwhelming. Relaxing was definitely not what happened here. I left and an employee raced over to grab the door. Fortunately, the vehicle next to me had parked well enough that I had space to get in my car. I will admit that the birthday disappointment weighs in here, however, even without that I think the opening week vibes were showing - they actually opened yesterday. I'm hoping things will calm down. I'd definitely hit the drive-thru again, but I'd be hard-pressed to go inside. They do sell gear. They had lots of advertisements for an upcoming movie (produced by Peyton and Eli Manning). They apparently do have a rewards club called the Caniac Club - it's weird to me they weren't promoting that during opening week - I wouldn't have expected a birthday reward on my birthday at sign-up, but it still would have been nice. I'm still glad they're in this spot, however, I likely won't return until things calm down and they get the kinks worked out.
