Chicken and #5 Mac Stack & Fries
Alex W.

Shaver hall is generally pretty pricey for the food you're getting, but I was pleasantly surprised with the chicken with mac n cheese and fries from chick chick. The chicken was spicier than I expected (in a good way), and the portion size was generous.

Chicken sandwich & fries

Both Laura and I chose fried chicken at Chick Chick. This is a Korean restaurant and the first in the Big Apple. Laura had the Mac Stack & Fries for $22. Yes, it's all pricey so be prepared for sticker shock. I opted for the KSG-Wich & Fries not realizing that this was a sandwich. Koreans know how to cook fried chicken that is greaseless and tasty which this was. However both were too spicy and coming from me this was a surprise as I often eat chili hot food. The helpings are big which is one consolation considering the high price. Both of us took a bag home. The fries were tasty but not shoestring. Service was fine. We sat at a table and ate our lunch. Not sure if I will return.

Broth was light and flavorful. Not sure if it's every Ichiran since this is the first one we were went to but we had to peel our own egg. Kinda threw me off. We went with the classic Tonkotsu ramen. After ordering, the staff directed us to the main dining area, where each seat is separated by wooden dividers. If you're dining with others, don't worry the dividers are retractable. The ramen came out pretty quickly. The broth was solid, with noodles cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the toppings were a letdown. For $23 a bowl, it only came with 2 thin slices of chashu which were pretty dry and bland. A soft boiled egg costs an additional $3 (not marinated, and you have to peel yourself). The room is very warm and a bit stuffy, almost like their way of telling you to slurp your noodles quickly and get out. Given there are many quality ramen shops nowadays, this feels more like a tourist destination.

We sat at the booths by the bartender and it was clean. It was my 2nd time having a dipping ramen and it did not disappoint. The broth was so savory and full of umami, I wish it had a little bit more ingredients. I recommend getting your own add on's for this dish so it feels more complete. The spicy tan tan ramen? Absolutely incredible. Worth getting again and again if you like spicy. My experience? Top 10. Their old fashioned was great too, highly recommend that as an accompanying drink.

We started with the pork belly appetizer which was recommended and stated on the menu indicating it's their featured dish. It was the biggest disappointment as it was extremely fatty with large chunks of fat, while the lean portions were dry. It didn't look very appetizing. The dumplings were just okay--they had decent flavor but I was hoping for a crispier texture. I ordered the Zebra Ramen. The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, but the broth was much saltier than I would have preferred. The pat of butter felt unnecessary and made the broth overly rich without adding much depth. The chashu was on the small side and also quite fatty and I assume it's the same as the appetizer but was sliced instead of in large chunks. The marinated egg had good flavor, although the yolk was a little more cooked than I typically like. Another thing is the pork belly appetizer came with an egg. I wish the server would tell us so we didn't have to add it to our ramen with an extra charge. The nori was also completely soggy by the time it reached our table. Overall, the noodles were the only highlight of the meal and the rest were very underwhelming. It's definitely not a place I would recommend.
