Everything about the pizza is great...except the crust. The sauce is nice, the toppings were good (pepperoni and sausage and mushroom) and there was a TON of cheese (we did have extra cheese as a topping). But the crust is...too moist? It's almost wet or undercooked (and I know the pizza looks over done but the bottom, especially at the outside of the crust is not). Maybe this is from having it in the car for 10 minutes to take it home? But it was just weirdly baked for the crust. Would try it again if someone else suggested this place and we did toss a few slices in the fridge (because again, it's HUGE) so would update if the reheat solves that issue. read more

Awww... this was a bust! I just got back from Chicago and was excited to compare this place's deep-dish pizza to the real thing. Since I'd never been here before, I had high expectations, especially after our server told us it was San Antonio's version of Chicago style pizza and the best in town. I thought, "Yes! I can't wait!" Unfortunately, it was a letdown. The crust didn't taste like fresh bread. It reminded me of Pillsbury dough from a can, and it even had that same yellowish color and flavor. First time driving by this place and we immediately had to try it out. My kids LOVE pizza and had never tried a deep dish. We are so glad we decided to stop, the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! My Littles were in AWE with the amount of cheese was in this pizza. The place is small, but the service is great. There were lots of pick up orders while we were there, so we know this place is good! Ambiance is cute, classic pizza parlor, would love to be able to see back in the kitchen but the window is too high and can't watch them cook, one downside to it. The staff the day I picked up my Togo order was really nice, pizza order was ready, which was nice, I placed an order an hour in advance to picking it up. Chicago Pizza is a very homey place. It has very authentic vibes. We went to try their Chicago style pizza. We got the meat lovers pizza and it was loaded with meat and cheese. You can also order an advance since the Chicago style pizza takes at least 45 minutes. I ordered 20 minutes before we got there and it was nice and ready.. The staff was really nice and I had my order ready and brought it to the table. We went for the Chicago Pizza but when we looked around, we saw people with other dishes that looked amazing. My kids and I walked in and was told that we could not be served because the restaurant closed in 40 minutes. Sounded more like the staff was being lazy and wanted to get out early. We ordered the medium deep dish pizza and found it quite much for two people. Highly recommend to go smaller unless not opposed to having left overs. The pie was very well cooked and not raw like most deep dish pizzas we have had. The customer service was very friendly and could tell that the waitress has years of customer service experience. Very helpful and friendly. There's nothing like a waitress that will inform you when you're headed the more expensive route and instead recommends the daily specials for something you're already ordering. When I was younger, my family and I would frequently come here. Now that I live in Austin, I hardly ever make it back to visit my favorite places. Last night after the Spurs game - we called ahead and asked them to put a meat lover pie in the oven - because it takes a while. When we got there they treated us like family. They didn't know us, but it felt like they did. Everyone was chill. The place was full, but not packed. When we first walked in, we were told to find our own seats, which we did. However, no one attended to us for at least 15 minutes. After two hours, we still hadn't received the pizzas we ordered. I couldn't decide between brownies or chocolate cake but the cake has a fudgy icing so it's satisfies. The large Chicago pie is wonderful reheated in the air fryer 370 for 7 minutes. I overordered but I knew that pizza was wonderful the next day and the next. Order more pizza than you need. You can always freeze and when that craving hits, air fry it. The sauce is bright, those mushrooms were well cooked. You have to knife and fork it until you reach halfway through the slice and then the crust is sturdy enough to handle by hand. Only recommendation is for the staff to cut it all the way through into slices. it didn't get through all the way and I had to cut it in the box and I was afraid I was gonna cut the cardboard box but I didn't. Calamari and zucchini fries would be a perfect add to the appetizer list but that's because Gino's East really spoiled me. Maybe some Italian lemonade or ice. When we got here, I was super excited about having Chicago pizza for the first time, but they got our order wrong. My dad asked for a full refund on the pizza, cheese bread, and sweet tea we ordered.
