    Focaccia bread

Here's a polished version of your review that keeps your experience and opinion while making it easier to read: I hate writing reviews like this because my first experience at Lover's Pizza was one of the best I've ever had. I waited in line for hours before they opened, and they made the wait worth it by handing out free garlic bread samples and beer. That garlic bread was hands down the best I've ever had, and the pizza was easily the best I'd had anywhere in Texas. I recommended this place to everyone and always told people it was worth the long wait, the limited hours, and even the risk of showing up only to find they had already sold out. Fast forward to yesterday--my first visit in over a year--and it was a completely different restaurant. The pizza was overcooked, dry, and honestly didn't taste very good. Instead of serving the pizza on a metal tray like everyone else in the restaurant they served it in a cardboard box, I assume it's out of spite for me not tipping the person at the cash register who does nothing except walk the pizza out when it's done. I tip 20-30% at restaurants that provide table side service, not ones that make you order at the counter. The incredible garlic bread I couldn't stop talking about has been replaced with a focaccia bread that just isn't good. On top of that, they still don't make enough pizzas to stay open during their posted hours, so you never know whether they'll actually have food left when you arrive. What made the original experience special wasn't just the hype--it was that the food actually lived up to it. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. The quality has dropped dramatically, and the service and overall experience have gone downhill as well. I think a lot of the glowing reviews today are riding the wave of Dave Portnoy's review from a year ago. At the time, I completely agreed with his rating. Based on the food I was served yesterday, though, I have a hard time believing it would score anywhere close to that if it were reviewed today. I never thought I'd say this after recommending Lover's Pizza to so many people, but I won't be going back.

Based on other reviews, I think I got lucky. I showed up between 4 and 5 PM and there was no line. We ordered our pizza and sat down and our pizza was out within 10 to 15 minutes. We also ordered the bread and butter which came out maybe five minutes after ordering. We really enjoyed the crunchiness of the bread as well as the pizza crust. I also did get their pecan chocolate chip cookie and it was delicious.

Did my research and found out the line starts around 3 pm. We came well prepared with a blanket to sit on a speaker and some drinks. The owners were very accommodating to those in line. We were second in line and maybe waited 15-20 minutes for pizza once we ordered. We got really lucky. The poblano was the highlight but we also got the vodka sauce and it was so creamy and bright. Most toppings are about $5 so we stuck to one topping per pizza. The crust is everything on this pizza and you can really taste the time they put into it.Love the idea of this shop! Can't Waite to bring more people.

Ingredients tasted fantastic, we really enjoyed this pizza. The only feedback I had about the pizza was that the crust was too burned for me, being a crust eater. I don't mind waiting longer for a pizza without the burn. Overall we loved it.

Hands down the best pizza in San Antonio. The flavor, execution, beauty of it all was simply outstanding. I've been waiting so long to try this place and the wait was very much worth it. We came on a Friday night at 6:45 and had no problem. We grabbed an outdoor bench and waited maybe 20 mins for our pie. The Poblano Pizza was absolutely perfection. Highly recommend. Might be the best thing I've eaten all year. Soooooo gooooood!

Have heard lots of great things about this pizzeria so we decided to check it out! I knew that the restaurant does get packed, so we got there around 45mins early to get in line before it opened. There were some people waiting in line as well & people continued to line up. When the restaurant opened we were greeted with the delicious smell of the pizza! The restaurant had a very cute local aspect to it. The food came out very quick & everything was delicious! The bread & garlic butter were excellent. I would get the garlic butter on the side as well to eat with the pizza crust. The pizzas were amazing!! Great flavor, the pizza had just enough crunch.

I was very disappointed with Lovers Pizzeria, especially based on the rave reviews. Parking is limited and overflows onto the street, seating is limited, and after ordering there was a one-hour wait. They don't answer nor take orders over the phone so I chanced driving there. The menu is small, which makes ordering simple, but $24 for a cheese pizza and $5 per topping is very overpriced. I ordered a cheese pizza with half pepperoni and half sausage. The flavor was good, but the dough was not crispy, somewhat chewy, and the slices flopped without holding their own weight. The amount of topping was very light, I felt ripped off. Nothing really stood out to justify the hype or the price. Maybe it was an off day, but for me it was not worth it.

If you are looking for convenience this is not it, but if you are willing to wait for some seriously good pizza then you will be rewarded. Lovers uses locally sourced ingredients and makes a lot of in house sauces. The pizza sauce is phenomenal and gives sweetness that goes so well with any toppings you pick. I'm so sad because every time I go the desserts are sold out, but that peanut butter tres leches thing looked amazing. The wait is usually around an hour, but they should hopefully have online ordering soon. I usually just do other stuff and they text me when it's ready. Worth the wait.

If you're up for an adventure and some seriously good pizza, this spot is worth the wait -- but ,plan ahead! We arrived 30 minutes before opening and were already halfway through a long line. Luckily, the staff made the wait more bearable with a cooler of free beer and water, plus a tray of their delicious focaccia bread to sample. Pro tip: bring lounge chairs, an umbrella, and don't come starving -- you might not eat for two hours. Once we got our food, it was easy to see why people line up. We ordered a regular cheese pizza and garlic bread, while our friends got the cheese with vodka sauce -- hands down the winner. That vodka sauce was rich, balanced, and unforgettable. The crust was perfectly crispy and the cheese blend was spot on. The garlic bread (really just focaccia with a side of garlic spread) was a little underwhelming, but still tasty. We were lucky enough to snag a table and passed the time playing games while we waited another hour for our pizza. They sold out just one hour after opening, so come early and come prepared. Despite the wait, we'll absolutely be back -- that vodka sauce alone is worth the trip.

I didn't intend to eat here, but someone I know ordered and waited the two hours for his pizza, so I took advantage of it and tried it out. The base pizza was cheese with extra toppings of pepperoni, onions and garlic. The pizza is thin crust and crispy right out of the oven. There was good ratio of sauce, cheese and toppings. The flavor was definitely there. They sell house made ranch dressing that was really good. The dessert that day was a banana split tres leches and it was to die for. I would go back just for the cake. Would I wait this long for this pizza? The answer is no. It's good pizza, but I don't have the patience to stand in line and then wait an hour or two to get my food. You really do have to stand in line before they open and be one of the first ones to order. They sell out quickly too. Parking is on site. It's nice to have that available. They have inside and outside seating.

    They have games!

Got here early cuz we heard they sell out fast and I can see why. The pizza was so yummy and with their sour dough pizza dough gives it a wonderful taste. This business gets all their ingredients local as they even have a sign showing where they get it from. The service was great we told them we were new so they gave us the run through about the business. Since we're in spooky season they were playing Halloween which fitted well since my lil one was dressed up as a witch. My only thing was there are very little room to seat and eat so u might have to ask for it to go if you don't get a table but beside that their pizza is a 10/10

The only downside to this place is waiting. We arrived at 3:15 today, stood in line for 20 minutes and was told the pizzas would take 50 minutes. Totally worth it though. There are about 8 tables inside, and 2 outside. People are pretty good about getting up, some take longer than others after they are finished. The poblano pizza is one of the most flavorful, unique pizzas I have ever had. You can see them hand tossing everything in the back, that's why it takes longer than the chain pizza places. The amount of car and love they put into these pies are evident though. The homemade ranch is really good too. Make sure that you get everything when you go up to order, if you aren't quick, it might be gone when you go back.

Went in April of 2025 to the location by the Pearl and the line was around block, I got in line at noon and was first person in line. I tried the poblano, marinara, bread and got a free drink for being first in line. They also have free beer while you wait which was the best. They serve bread while you wait in the long line, I recommend bringing a foldable seat and or an umbrella and use sunscreen. Worth the wait. Very low amount of seats, if you're not able to get a seat be prepared to wait outside longer or just get it to go.

That attention to detail definitely comes through in the food. I ordered the arugula salad with chicken, and it was outstanding. The combination of candied pumpkin seeds, creamy goat cheese, roasted beets, and balsamic vinaigrette was perfectly balanced, with every bite offering great texture and flavor. My friends ordered the pepperoni pizza and couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was. Then came dessert... and I completely lost all self-control--in the best way possible. We ordered the affogato, tiramisu, torta di polenta, and the Nutella torta. Every single dessert was beautifully executed and absolutely delicious. If I had to pick favorites, the affogato and the Nutella torta were the standouts, but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Excellent service, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and food that delivers from start to finish. I'll definitely be back!

The host was very pleasant and mentioned she would make a note of my birthday. When we arrived, our waiter was attentive, funny, and accurate. We tired their pizza, burrata and bread, olives, salad, and the tiramisu. I really appreciated their NA options of teas and mocktails. The whole experience was awesome and my tastebuds were spoiled. I do with they would have comped a beverage or dessert for a birthday celebration. That was really disappointing especially considering the bills total.

The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.
