I have been coming to this restaurant for years and have always enjoyed it. But this last time was very disappointing. The gyro had very little sauce and just a few onions and two small pieces of tomato. I also ordered spanakopita. It was a 3-in triangle about a half inch or less thick looked fried no layers of Philo spinach feta were discernible. Plus it was stale and inedible. What a fantastic hole-in-the-wall I am so sorry I have been missing! It's unfortunate this pandemic is taking place, but this gem is SO worth supporting for pickup orders! I can't decide for the life of me when it comes to Mediterranean cuisine- it's ALL good! But, I opted for the combo platter, a side of spanakopita, hummus, pita & both flavors of baklava. Absolutely ALL of it was delicious! They also offer Chicago style dogs, gyros & burgers. They cook everything on the spot, as it's ordered. So everything was entirely fresh off the grill. Their presentation & packaging of to-go was perfect. The food was still piping hot as I got it home. And the quality/quantity was also more than my expectations! Plenty of a serving, definitely enough to make 2-4 meals out of it (in my opinion). So, I about did a double-take when I got the total- but it is worth it. I appreciate they provide a generous serving of basmati rice (my favorite!) and a plentiful salad. What makes the salad perfect- they don't drown it in dressing to sog. Lightly dressed for flavor & still crisp after sitting & transport. While I feel like the portions of meat were a little weak... we are also experiencing a shortage at this time. And what was provided definitely tasted great & was cooked to perfection. I just wish a side of the traditional sauce was offered or provided, otherwise it's a little dry. But the pitas were warmed, soft & fluffy. Hummus has excellent flavor & consistency. The spanakopita is a little "flat" compared to what I've had elsewhere, but also very good! Plenty of spinach to round it out. I just especially love the baklava! Both the almond and pistachio flavors are SO good! It's a definite must. I'm excited to come back after the quarantine is over! They have a great, cozy spot with a nice dining area, full bar & tv for entertainment. Very clean and tidy- and the staff are fantastic! The young lady at the register was on top of it, very friendly and polite. During a pandemic, I felt very relaxed & welcome during the brief wait as my order was being finished. Tried this place today since it was close by. The hot dog was pretty decent however the previous comments said the fries were awful! Well I have to agree, possibly the worst fried I've ever had. Asked for my fries to be made we'll done...what I got were fries that weren't even close to being prepared properly! Not what I expected for $7.50! It gets better....my wife ordered an Italian beef for $12.50. Great big piece of Italian bread but really wondered "Where was the Beef?" Oh and her fries were just as bad as mine were. So with drinks, two sandwiches and fries I dropped $27.00 there. The upside is we will NEVER GO BACK THERE..... Not sure what they don't understand when you ask for the fries to be made we'll done? Stopped by today for lunch around 2:00 PM. As 3 Stars suggests, it was okay. Bought the Gyro and fries ($10.50 about). The Gyro was okay, nothing notable. There was plenty of meat, but pretty dry and didn't really have any other condiments inside. The fries were very good. Service was... Pleasant. Looked like a nice place. It had a nice-looking bar with draft beer, and lots of seating as well. The premises were clean as well. But most likely won't go back as the Gyro was maybe average. Just not a good atmosphere with the employees yelling back n forth. We've been here before and the food was better in the past. Generous portions of delicious food. The restaurant is much more spacious than you would think from the storefront. Full bar. The only thing I don't like is a surcharge for using a debit or credit card. I'm seeing this practice increasing, and I am increasingly disliking it. I am buying food and usually tip 20%. I am penalized for not carrying a wad of cash everywhere. Businesses need to rethink this practice. read more

Anecdote: I was born in Central Illinois and introduced to "street style" gyros at a young age. Being a rural Alabama resident since preteen age, my access to gyros has been limited, and what I typically find is either "fancy" or pretending to be fancy, with farmers market type ingredients trying to make the "freshest gyro". These things can be nice, but it's not what I crave. Reality: I was attracted to this restaurant by the "Chicago" in its name. That word alone told me what to expect. I ordered a gyro & fries, with an extra gyro sauce (tzatziki) on the side. The gyro wrap was a perfect embodiment of my childhood memories: well-seasoned beef and lamb on a moist and fluffy pita, with onion, tomato, and thick, zesty cucumber sauce. A perfect ratio of fat to acid. The fries tasted just like something I'd make at home, and dipping them in "gyro sauce" made them perfect. This was my first trip to this spot. I'm in town for the week, and i will definitely be back for one more before I head home! read more

My family and I LOVE this place!! We come atleast once a week. The food is always fresh and hot, the vegetables are never soggy or gross tasting. Great customer service, you can't beat their prices, and the baklava is to die for! It's hard to find a place with authentic tasting gyros. I hate to say it but I've lived 2 minutes from this place for years and never tried it. I've never eaten anywhere in AJ that was all that great in 20 years so we never thought this place was any better. We were wrong. Their ingredients are fresh and their food is great. The place is clean and nice. Clean is a plus and rare AJ. Their hours are consistent also which is another problem in AJ. I'm in love with this place now and can't wait to try new things. I've never had a falafel but that's my next order. I do have to say that after reading a review from shawn , I did not notice that they expressed any political opinions. I used to come to this place quite often and today I did after quite a while. Previously I would've given this place five stars, but not today. I ordered a Gyro and large fries to go. When my order was up in 60 seconds I should have known, but I took my meal and drove off The french fries are absolutely horrible because they had been sitting under a light for I don't know how long and they were like oily rubber. There's no way these were fresh. I was I was going to order an additional sauce, but when they told me it was two dollars for a small container, so I passed on that. Two bucks! For a Jell-O shot size of sauce. The Gyro was a mistake in ordering as well. It lacked sauce so much that it was as if there were none. In addition to that, the single onion slices that they put on this Gyro was only on the end rather than being spread out throughout the Gyro. The way they put the onion in there would've worked great on a hamburger. The bummer is I really enjoyed this place but I guess I probably will not be going back. Truly unfortunate. Hands down, the best food in Apache Junction. Everything made fresh, in house with fresh high quality ingredients. I cannot get enough of the Chicken skewers and rice. The Vegetarian Delight is my favorite, with dolmas, spanikopita and falafel! All fresh and full of flavor. The tazhikj sauce is to die for! Dip your fork into the sauce and eat with chicken and then rice, you will thank me later! Portions are huge. I love everything about this place. Everything from appetizer to bavklava is incredibly good as well. Staff is wonderful and friendly. We eat here a few times a week, it's the very best food in Apache Junction. I'm really sad to post this review. We discovered this place years ago and it was great. Unfortunately, not anymore. The fries were good, and the pita were lovely and soft. My chicken shawarma sandwich was just OK. My husband ordered beef shawarma plate and it was NOT beef shawarma. Over the rice and little salad was what looked more like the scrapings from the pan when you start cleaning it at the end of the day. There was little meat there, whatever you wanted to call it, and even the rice was dry. This is a little out of our area so we hadn't been in a while, and we won't be back. read more

One of my favorite spots in AJ! Consistently great food each time I visit. My go to is the Chicken Kebob Plate ($13) and Triple delight (7.99 baba ghanouj, hummus, tabouli & pita), which is what we had tonight. One of my other favorites is the gyros sauce, it comes with the plate and hits the spot. The flavor is always perfect & the owners are very nice. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because price, although I feel the food is worth it, I think it is a bit high. Price does keep me from visiting more often.
