I was in town only a few days to visit my kid's college. Never really tried a Chicago hotdog before. Ordered online and picked up in this food court. Tasted fine. While a Chicago hot dog is not an overly complicated food item - you'd be surprised at the number of places that miss the mark. Chicago's Dog House didn't hit the bullseye dead-center, but the ring just outside. Two and a half reasons why the Chicago dog was shy of perfection. One, the celery salt was hard to pick up on. Two, as much as I enjoyed the frankfurter being grilled and having a decent snap, it felt a little small diameter-wise. I'll share the half-reason later. My voracious appetite was hungry for more, and I also ordered a Snoop Dog, a chili-cheese dog. While not mind-blowing, I think it's A-OK considering CDH's fast casual nature. The service was friendly and welcoming. The speed was about in line with the other spots at Washington Hall. Finally, we have our half-reason. For a hot dog, ~$7 feels a little steep. Though, I do appreciate that rent at Washington Hall is probably not too cheap. Thus, Chicago's Dog House delivers on a respectable hot dog. However, for the time being the GOAT is still that little seasonal stand by the Art Institute. They have faster service, lower prices (IIRC), and and perceptible celery salt. read more

Born and raised on the south side, but living in ATL makes me miss ALL the Chicago food. We came to the food hall while we were out walking around. I can't speak to the parking since, we walked. But the location is very central and Chicago's Dog House is easy to find when you walk in the food hall. I ordered a polish sausage and fries. My daughter ordered a chili cheese hot dog. She said that her hot dog was very good. My polish was cooked just right and had the perfect snap. I'm a fry snob and really only love hand cut fries and their fries delivered! We were walking through downtown doing tourist things and I wanted a hot dog. We went in and I ordered a chicago dog, cheese fries, and a drink. My wife had some mexican food from another spot. This is in a food hall with like 10 different locations to choose from. My dog was good and my cheese fries were good also. First meal after arriving to Chicago so may as well find a Chicago dog right? This Chicago's dog house is in a food hall right inside the loop and conveniently located by lots of shopping and other food options (so if you aren't feeling a chicago meal). Anyway, this is a casual food hall so you order at your preferred vendor, find a seat, and chow down. No bells and whistles as far as service or anything. We got chicago dogs and fries and both were good. The chicago dog had a great snap and my favorite are the peppers and they had a slight bite (my spice tolerance is supposedly high). Well done chicago dog all around. Fries were also crisp and nicely seasoned, think arby's curly fries but thicker and straight. Located in a food court with a bunch of other restaurants, this place is perfect for a quick lunch/dinner/snack. There's lots of space to eat and although it was pretty busy, it wasn't too loud or crazy. The cashier was very quick and the food came out fast as well. The must haves like neon green relish, poppy seed bun, and celery salt (in addition to the usual toppings, excluding ketchup of course) are a must! This place gets it right! Great spot to stop and get a tasty snack as you roam downtown Chicago. Polish Dog has an excellent taste I don't care for onions but the grilled onions really brought out the flavor of the Polish Dog. Corn dog bites are tasty especially when dipped in the dipping mustard they come with. Not too greasy very light snack. Food hall that this place is located in is pretty cool has some great quick eats. read more

Love that it's in a food hall with tons of options! We were visiting the city and ran into this place that served up Chicago Style Dog for $7.50+. The hot dog itself was good with a thick casing. The veggies were a bit much and super overwhelming. Maybe if they were slimmer. We did wait a bit because they forgot my order. Just make sure to check on your order. WHAT A RIP OFF - but since consumers are such sheep and tolerate it this is what we get. Seriously a skinny as fuck hot dog that gets lost in the bun for $9.00!! Then if you want to add canned drink and fries, that's an additional $8.00 bucks so $20 for a tiny hotdog, drink and fries. Absolutely NOTHING special about it you could hardly taste the dog, it was so overpowered by the bun. Portillos is so much better same price for an actual dog you can taste. After pushing through the surprisingly light doors to the food court and meandering your way to the back right corner, you'll stumble upon this humble hot dog stall. There, you'll discover that the food is decent, but also that it's true what they say - size matters. The hot dogs here are smaller than they look online, so if small dogs just aren't your thing, beware. Also, if you order pickup, they won't make your hot dog until you arrive, so you still have to wait once you're there. Also, Obama lovers beware - they somehow ran out of pineapples halfway through the day, at 12pm. The food is decent overall, which makes sense considering this is a chain. read more

I get that food costs have increased and it's in high rent district but $16 for that size I went back for more Adju and a dipped roll just like we did it at Dog Tracks in Barrington growing! Ordered their specialties, a Superdawg and Whoopskidawg with Superfries, Chocolate Super Malt and Black Kows. Service was fast and friendly at 11pm on a Friday. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. Every single time we have stopped in, our order has been 100% correct and piping hot. My daughter and I like the single dog and fries with everything - my husband and son like the double dog and fries with everything. This is a grab and go kind of place, unless you don't mind standing at the counter - that's one of my favorite things to do. I can't wait for hockey season to start again, I am missing Gene & Jude's.

I did come back that next morning because inwanted to video the girls because rhe are funny and rude but real funny with the rudeness!!! Both visits were super cool and exceptional.I recommend if you're new to chicago pick the time stop.In order some ketchup it willl be quite the experience *WINK *WINK* When you walk in, you place your order first and pay second then you wait for them to prepare and bag it unless your eating in.. Conversational extras are expected and will be given back if you dare... The decor is typical outdoor dining and the indoor area is for ordering and takeout!! I wish I could post the shirt video from my first visit but it will probably get pulled... Awesome experience!!!

Not sure if it's normally that texture, but definitely a miss. Devil Dawg (4/5): Bun and toppings are pretty much standard issue down the board, but the actual hot dog is a much nicer quality than at other spots around the city with a good snap. Portillo's is definitely a vibe, but I do prefer the Chicago dog here. Nicely balanced across sodium, tangy, sharpness, and even a bit of spice.

How was it? Fries- Delicious! Fresh cut fries, made right in front of you. They were great! Huge portion, too! Merkts Cheddar Sauce- Hell yeah! Give me a gallon of this, and I will chug it! Such a tasty cheese sauce. Loved dipping my fries in it. Great combo! Char Dog- This dog was delicious! Great char, great toppings. My only beef would be the bun. It definitely could have been more soft/steamed and fresh. It held up pretty well, but there were a couple bites where it broke and flaked apart. Hate when that happens. Still...didn't ruin the overall experience. Had a great last meal in Chicago before I headed to the airport.

Service was friendly. Seating is shared with the rest of the food hall.

Made last minute reservations for brunch next day after the infamous architecture tour. It was quiet as we've put in an early morning. All the more better to savor all intricate dishes from start to finish. Like the name, The Purple Pig, their specialty is pork dishes so majority of our orders were this. Daily special of the bone marrow bacon jam toast - glazed, slippery off the bone, savory and sweet. Always love a good bone marrow dish to get the sweetness off it. This was so good that there were bits of the marrow and jam left stuck to the bone, I took a piece of the toast and scooped the bone dry. Nothing left for anyone to attack this. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.

Every single part of the meal was outstanding. The pulled pork was delicious on its own, but I also loved the sweet barbecue sauce. The cornbread was, without exaggeration, the best I've ever had!! It was moist, flavorful, and served with absolutely incredible butter. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and one of the best I've ever had as well. Even the sweet tea was perfect: actually sweet without being overpowering or having that bitter, earthy aftertaste that some sweet teas have. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I came back the next night and tried the brisket. It was sooooo good too. It was tender, smoky, juicy, and packed with flavor. At that point I knew the first meal wasn't a fluke. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are generous, and I felt the quality more than justified the price. I was there by myself because I'm traveling for work and actually enjoyed the communal tables. They made the atmosphere feel welcoming and a little less lonely than sitting by myself. The staff was excellent, too. The gentleman with the glasses at the meat counter was friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. He even threw in a complimentary rib, which was such a nice surprise and a great example of the hospitality here. One thing to know before you go: the line can get long, but don't let that scare you away, it moves efficiently, and the food is absolutely worth the wait. Green Street Smoked Meats lived up to every bit of the hype. Between two visits, I tried the pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, cornbread, sweet tea, and a rib, and every single thing was excellent. This will be one of my first stops the next time I'm in Chicago.

The Pork Ribs (6.5/10) were somewhere between tender and chewy, so I'd probably skip them. The Pulled Pork (6.5/10) was slightly sweet but tasted pretty standard. All of the meats could've used a little more seasoning, and I wish they came out hotter. The spicy BBQ sauce and golden sauce were both delicious though. The Elote Style Corn (8/10) was my favorite side. Super creamy with plenty of parmesan. The Broccoli Salad (7/10) had great crunch from the pumpkin seeds and sweetness from the raisins, though I wish the seeds were toasted. The Baked Beans (6.5/10) had pork belly and onions mixed in, but otherwise tasted like a solid, classic baked bean. The vibes felt like a true Texas BBQ joint.
