I needed to get a new pet sitter for my two cats after moving outside the service area of my previous pet sitter. I researched a bunch of pet sitters on Yelp and contacted a couple. Stephanie was very responsive and immediately set up an introductory call to get to know my needs and everything about my cats. Stephanie and her team took great care of my cats while we were out of town for a week. The app that Chicago Urban Pets uses allows you to include all the information, and pictures, of your pets. When the sitters come to visit, it lets you know when they have entered your home and after the visit the sitter sends you a detailed report and pictures. Chicago Urban Pets Review We called Chicago Urban Pets in advance of our arrival to Chicago. We requested their services for 1 hour with our dog in our hotel room while we would be gone for less than 2 hours. This is what happened. Text message to company: Stephanie, Unfortunately, we aren't very satisfied with the services of the sitters. They arrived late, at 11:00 am, for a one hour visit due to "transport issues." We made it clear we were checking out of the hotel at 12:00 pm. We also made it clear we needed a one hour visit between 9:30-11:30 am. We left at 9:10 am and returned at 11:30 am while the sitters were still present. They said they had just gotten back to the room with Ivy. By our calculations Ivy's walk was very short. Additionally, as a result of the sitters showing up late, Ivy had an accident in the hotel and the hotel is charging us a $250 deep cleaning fee and a $100 annoyance fee. One of the two hours that we were gone was dedicated to your services that we did not fully receive and it also cost us an extra $350. I never want to poorly review any company, especially a locally owned company. But I feel I have no choice in this case. Is there anything I am missing regarding your policies for sitters showing up late? Jodi Watson Text response from company: Hi Jodi I am very sorry to hear about these unforeseen's. Additional costs from the hotel is no one's idea of a good time. Looking over our notes and communications it looks like you had expectations that were different from the nature of our policy and I will make sure Sophie calls you Monday so we can clears things out. Best Stephanie, owner Resolution: I spoke with Sophie on Monday, Jan 30th. The company felt a fair resolution would be to charge us $40 for a 45 minute stay, instead of $48 for a one hour stay, although the sitters were alone with Ivy for 30 minutes. The other 15 (ish) was with us present upon our return to the hotel. Sophie stated the policy is that if you book a sitter from 9:30-11:30, they can arrive at any time between those hours. So, technically, they could have arrived at 11:30 and stayed til 12:30 - even with our hotel check out at 12:00. Had we known this, it would have changed our timing of events and it certainly would have changed who we chose for an agency. The Gwen Hotel recommended we use their Consierge service when choosing a pet agency in the future. We feel this is a good idea. read more

Two days ago, this would have been a five star review. I was quite happy with Chicago Urban Pets...until the last few days. I didn't appreciate the spam email for tips when I already tipped a total of $80 to two people (last time was about $120 to three people). Had an issue of a key return, charge for the return, then waived because of their bad communication and coordination. It was a stupid $7 charge that should've been a non issue except: 1) there was mixed communications on the key return charge 2) if I had my key returned to me as expected--would have really been a non-issue. The keys are about $270 each at my high rise. Never had this problem before. I'm fine with a pet sitting company keeping a key but that wasn't a set expectation. I was a happy customer until things turned south quickly. Seems well run until you realize it's uncoordinated with college kids doing the work. *I completely forgot about this review. Looks like the owner decided to reply on here after I posted--way to do service recovery. From the first email inquiry to Chicago Urban Pets and their rapid responses, to questions about their services and the use of their portal we have been nothing but amazed and appreciative of the business model and individualized attention from Chicago Urban Pets. One of the most appreciated aspects of the sitting service for us were the daily updates we got on the visits from Jackie, Angela and Stephanie we knew we had chosen the best team for our cat. The initial option for a meet and great with the sitters is a huge plus, it is important to get a feel for who would be coming to see Coco and eased any anxieties for us. When we decided to book the service Stephanie had the sitters available to meet us within 24 hours - seriously unheard of and both Jackie and Angela were on time and truly invested in getting the information needed for them to complete the upcoming visits. The option to put the feeding, daily routines and contact information in the Chicago Urban Pets portal was seamless. Their portal has every aspect of what will be required to have a pet cared for included in it. Being able to see the schedule of who was coming and what time, payment options and notes highlighted the level of commitment and professionalism Chicago Urban Pets maintains and should be proud of. Most amazing was to get the updates outlining what each visit entailed through emails directly after each visit. I was nervous about finding a petsitter for my senior dog now that I have to travel again. I was gone for a week overseas, and this was my first working with Stephanie and her team. Stephanie and her team have been walking my dog Charlie for over 2 years (over 400 walks). As Chicago Urban Pets has grown Stephanie continues to hire the best of the the best. Charlie is not the easiest to get to go and they spend the time working on finding favorite spots or a specialized route. I have had a handful of walkers over the two years. Some have been Charlie's regular walker and others have just been one off walks. From my experience I have loved having Emily V., Parker G., Samantha P., Ashlee H., Danielle B., Adrienne S., Alexis K., Ariana B., Myra R. and most recently Ella A. walk Charlie. Stephanie goes out of her way to ensure your dog has met each walker before they come to your house and she will have them come meet you before also. Each walker provides their own unique photo's and stories. It is so much fun during the workday to get a note on how Charlie's walk went and a fun photo's and stories. Some of these photo's even hang in my place and are my background at the office. The online portal is an incredible resource. It makes it so easy to request additional walks and cancel walks if needed. It also provides a space for you to give updates and notes on your pups routine and favorite things. Chicago Urban Pets (CUP) is amazing. I have been working with them for several years and I cannot relay enough praise. I work full time, live in a condo in the Loop and my pup Tia is 9, an active Aussie mix. Cup embraced my Tia, I typically have them walk her to the park for the long 90 minute visit, and I come home to a happy and calm dog. I travel for work occasionally and have also used CUP service for overnight stays which has gone smoothly.As a healthcare worker, CUP was instrumental in helping me with their care of Tia while I worked since the onset of the pandemic. And in the course of the pandemic my poor Tia went blind! Not even a hitch in CUP working with and walking my girl. I've had many who work at CUP walk Tia, never an issue, all have been professional, and loving towards my Tia. However, Angela has gone above and beyond for us, and owner Stephanie even stepped in to walk Tia in the height of the pandemic while I was working. I'm not going to miss Chicago's famous wind, the city's aggressive panhandlers, or the feeling that I'm living in a very tall, dense human filing cabinet. I will miss the five-minute walk to Trader Joes, the Starbucks on the corner, and...Chicago Urban Pets. Our 14-year-old rescue cat, Ezzy, was accustomed to a swinging screen door, a heated cat house on the porch, and the freedom to roam Big Sky Country. Moving from Montana to a highrise was a tough transition, and I felt even worse when we had to leave her alone for days at a time. Chicago Urban Pets eased my mind. They followed my explicit (and somewhat strange) protocol to a "T." They feed our cat THREE types of food, like, uh...three times a day. They walk our cat in a stroller (Yep). Ezz has a recurrent ear infection, and they medicate her with enzyme drops. She has a timed 'night feeder,' and they fill that up too. Oh, yeah, and they clean the litter box, refill the fountain with filtered water, and groom & play with her. They leave MSNBC on TV for her without questioning my taste in TV or my politics. Chicago Urban Pets has been incredibly responsive, sending descriptions and pictures for every visit. Concerns and questions, via email, have been answered within minutes. We are so sad to be moving out of Chicago Urban Pets' service area! We were so lucky to find them after a less than stellar experience with another local dog walking company. We were thrilled to be matched up with Bryn for our apartment in the Loop, and she immediately hit it off with our boxer mix, Siggy. The owner, Stephanie, made sure that we kept the same walker, and Bryn and Siggy were a wonderful pair! When we met an alternate walker just in case we ever needed a back-up, Andrea was also fantastic and it was so nice to meet her before she and Siggy had a few walks together. We loved seeing the great pictures Bryn took of their adventures, and she always wrote sweet and funny notes about their time together. I contacted Stephanie to watch my cat over Memorial Day weekend. She was also very responsive with her email, and it was super convenient that she lived in my building. We scheduled a time to meet up and talk over some specifics (where is the cat food, how much to feed my cat, what time she should come, etc.). As I saw Stephanie taking down notes, I could tell that she was organized, responsible and had a professional demeanor, and I immediately felt very relieved that I would be putting my cat in her care while I was away. For the 2 days that Stephanie came to watch my cat, she sent me email updates of how my cat was doing, along with photo that she took of my cat (which were absolutely adorable!) The pricing was also good, and I was also at ease knowing that she had a lot of experience with pet care in the past. Stephanie has been the best thing to happen to my dog and I. We are probably one of the more difficult clients to take on and Stephanie has always been there when we need her. Due to my schedule Stephanie has had to make herself available on very short notice (we try to be respectful and give her at least a week's notice, I am sure she would appreciate the same) and she comes through every time. My dog has a history of behavioral issues, and I feel safe leaving her in Stephanie's capable hands. It is great she comes to the house, sends email updates (complete with artistic photo), and even brings extra treats around the holidays. It is such a joy to be confident leaving my pup with Stephanie and allows my travel to be as stress free as possible. I first found out about Chicago Urban Pets through a groupon deal. I was a little reluctant to use them, especially from an ad but I did my research and I have been very happy with them. I have a 2 year old French bulldog, that wasn't use to being in the house by himself for more than 6 hours at a time. Now that I moved, I knew I needed a dog-walker. Stephanie came over on a Sunday to introduce herself and see if Oscar, my frenchie responded well to her... and he did. I think it takes a lot to trust someone to give them the keys to your home as well as the code to the alarm system. Stephanie and I immediately got a long and I could see that she was great with Oscar. So, I tested her out for 2 weeks (the groupon time). She texted me everyday with the exact times and what Oscar did on his walk with pictures, that was really great to see. Soon after, with business booming we were assigned a new dog-walker, Terry. It just so happened that Terry is originally from my home town and has a love for dogs. They came over again on a weekend to introduce my dog to the new walker and everything was fine. Terry emails me everyday with the times and has some pretty amazing pictures. I know just from the way Oscar looks in the pictures, he is very happy. I would highly recommend Chicago Urban Pets to someone who is considering a dog-walker. They are professional, dependable, enthusiastic and have a love for animals. Mia has a genuine love for animals and her updates and photos while with our 2 cats were always great. Mia is gone for the summer so now we've had Stephanie and Ariel watching our kitties. They were wonderful and willing to come over to meet me before they took over, which was very appreciated to make me feel comfortable about having someone new.
