Horrible company. At first, they seem easy to work with and promise high-quality work using good materials and very friendly - However, after the the work was done I noticed the shingles were not laid properly , and the invoice says that I would get color-matching shingles--which I DID NOT GET. It looks like they used leftover shingles from a previous job instead of purchasing new ones that matched. My main issue was a leaking valley and a leaking bedroom ceiling. They "repaired" it very poorly, despite charging me $4,050. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts leaking again soon, considering the exposed nails and misplaced shingles. ( they did come to lay the shingles better by leaving EXPOSED nails which will soon cause a leak and didnt want to change the shingles to color match ) I also paid them $500 to seal my roof hatch, which I understood was a temporary fix--but that repair didn't even last a month before leaking again. When I called them, they quoted me $1,500 to remove the hatch and said they would credit the $550 toward that job. Two weeks later, I followed up by email, and the price suddenly jumped to $3,500. Their final email said, "You want to play games--let's go!" What does that even mean? Is he threatening to come to my home and start a fight? I'm reporting this message to the police in case they attempt anything. A HARD pass on working with this company. My HOA hired them to do a complete roof tear off and replacement. While that project was underway, CRS failed to adequately protect the exposed areas of the roof, resulting in substantial water damage throughout the whole building, to the tune of $600k in damage. They are a fraud, they are not licensed, and even the license number on their website is false. We had a roof inspector prepare a report to prove the negligence, and nothing...NOT ONE THING...was done according to the standards of the National Roofing Contractors Association. Go take a look at the complaints section on the BBB website where there's a good discussion between the clown(s) at CRS and our attorneys. We worked with Chicago Roofing Services recently to replace our flat roof, which had been leaking and causing significant interior damage to our home. They were responsive, professional, and understanding, especially since we'd let them know that numerous other contractors had been unable to find the source of the leak. Not only did they find it, they gave us part of our home back with beautiful new roof decking. We had worked with them previously on a smaller project (repairing a finished porch), and when issues arose with that recently they were incredibly helpful in working with us, including in conversations about the cost for additional and do-over repairs. The team is super-communicative, courteous, and diligent. They send frequent updates, including photos, when they're working and reach out whenever they have a question (e.g. about the color of materials, etc). The prices are reasonable and reflect the very high quality of their work. I am so glad I chose CRS and would do so again in the future without hesitation. read more

CRS did repairs at my house in August 2024 to include roof repairs, rewrapping a window frame, replacing a section of gutter facia board, and re-pitch another gutter that wasn't properly draining. I worked with the owner Bob and his son, Robert throughout the process. I have a very steep/slanted roof and out of 5 different roofing companies I called to inspect my roof to see if any repairs were needed and to estimate when I might need a new roof, CRS was the only company who inspected the roof from the ground, the attic AND topside, via flying a drone to get close up and take video/photos to show me the condition of my roof. They gave flexible options and competitive pricing. Only 3 of the other roofing companies bothered to inspect the roof from attic and 1 of them only estimated from ground level. So I was impressed that Robert from CRS used a drone to get an accurate snapshot of exactly what was needed. All of the others quoted a range of prices to replace the roof, but didn't give options for repair/maintenance, but Robert was transparent in providing details to help me make an informed and non-pressured decision for the scope of work to be done. Bob the owner oversaw the whole process and their quote was professionally written and transparent to what was material versus labor costs. Only 1 of the other roofers provided a written quote and the rest just gave me a verbal quote. CRS was honest to tell me only the ridge cap needed to be re-done and a small valley section connecting a dormer section. They provided some general guidelines for when a full roof might be needed, and also provided a quote to do that, which was competitive (inline) with the other vendors' quotes to replace the full roof. CRS also rewrapped the metal frame around a window that had a moisture entry problem. The next day it rained and was a good test of the new wrapping; when I noticed the water was standing on the window ledge and not running off to the ground, I called CRS to fix that and they were responsive to come back as quick as 2 days later to rewrap/reposition the metal to ensure the drip angle was more pronounced and that water would run off the ledge more reliably. So I appreciate their promptness to do a service call and ensure the quality of their work. When I need additional repairs or when I'm ready for a full roof replacement, I would not hesitate to call CRS again to bid on my project. read more

Bob and his son and team replaced a flat roof and gutter on an addition to a new flat I purchased in the summer of 2024. They had to take apart the deck belonging to the unit owner who lives above me and then put their deck back together in order to replace my roof and gutter. They were professional and hard working. They did charge me more than they had quoted due to the roof being more damaged than they had originally quoted. I asked them to come back in the fall of 2024 to attach a gutter to the corner of my roof where I noticed standing water when it rained. He did so promptly and did not charge me for that work. It was a challenging job, and although I did not love the additional charge being added to the original quote, the roof is no longer leaking and the gutter is draining properly to date. read more

I discovered a leak on my roof where the front porch met the house due to some popped nails and lack of sealant around the flashing. When I called Bob, he was professional, friendly and responsive, sending his team out the same day to assess and perform the repair. His son Rob and crew explained the cause and even looked at other aspects to confirm a good seal around the windows and that the rest of the roof was in good shape. My condo association has used Chicago Roofing Services twice - once for a large repair just before winter and once for a smaller repair when some old shingles flew off the roof from all the winds. Both times CRS was very responsive. Bob is the owner and he responds to every call. His son is the primary foreman and gets work done quickly & efficiently. We have not had any problems with the areas they've repaired of the roof and if we did they offer a 2-year warranty which they seem very willing to honor. When I called them back, the fellow acknowledged it was a mistake to not let me know they'd not be able to come out as planned. He said he would call me back with a new date/ time. First, let me say, that I am extremely thorough when it comes to diligencing any type of service provider. I check yelp, google, ask friends for recommendations, interview the provider and then ultimately make a decision. In this case, I met with and received offers from 6 roofing companies (all 6 were in the top 12 on yelp) Let me be clear, Bob was not the most expensive but he certainly wasn't the cheapest. This is exactly what I was looking for. Quality without breaking the bank. Fortunately, he had also performed roofing work on 2 of my neighbors homes, so I could see his work first hand. Both roofs looked great and we decided to proceed. Bob's crew arrived and demolished our existing deck which took about a day. As other reviewers mentioned, Bob's crew will take pictures throughout the job and text them to you to keep you updated. The next day they laid down the new roof. Then it took about 2-3 days to rebuild the deck and pergola. In all, the job took about 5 days (to clarify, at no point in time did we not have a roof over our heads). The entire crew was extremely respectful and friendly - I can't say this enough. Overall, this is a highly professional outfit that delivers quality work at a fair price. DO NOT HIRE! Have a leak? Go somewhere else (see below for our full experience). Seriously, anywhere else. We paid this place ~$2500 to fix a ceiling leak only to have the leak become worse and eventually pay another company to fix not only the original leak, but also this place's mistake. I am not sure if this company is just really bad at their job or a scam - maybe both? Regardless, HIRE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. My opinion: RUN AWAY, FAR AWAY -- Find a different place! Find a place with guaranteed work too. This place isn't it. For anyone who wants specifics: Earlier this year, we developed a ceiling leak on the first floor of a two story flat in the back, master bedroom (no leak on second floor), especially after the major snow in February. The leak was filling a gallon bucket every ~3-4 hours. We called this company to fix this leak. After a week or two, they came out and assessed the problem. During this initial visit, no one wanted to come inside and take a look at the actual leak, which we assumed was due to COVID policies. Instead, the company assessed the outside of the house and said that our ceiling leak was due to improper gutters that filled up quickly and caused water overflow onto the side of the back wall, into our bedroom. This made perfect sense. A week or two later, we got new gutters and paid them for their service. Fast forward a week or two -- it finally rains and rains hard. 15 minutes into the rain I start to hear the rapid dripping at the back of the house, near the master bedroom. The leak was back! Not only was the leak back, but it was now coming down at a faster rate than before. What was once a gallon bucket being filled became one of those 3ft tall plastic, round trash cans. It was obvious the leak was worse. The ceiling was cracking. Due to the fact that this was in the evening, we waited until the next day to call. No one answered so my other half left a message. This went on for a few days -- call, leave a message -- he didn't get a call back. Frustrated, I decided to call the company myself and finally someone picked up. I explained that the leak wasn't fixed and they said that they would have someone come out and look at it again. Well, they came out. Quite a few times. They kept telling us, after each visit that they knew what the problem was, they would send us a quote (so yes, we would have to pay them more?!). This went on for over a month. No quote ever given. Many unanswered voicemails were left -- it took many calls in a row to reach a person. After their last visit I finally gave up and called another company. This company came out, told us we needed the back wall fixed, new siding, AND we needed to fix our gutters (not knowing yet we just got new gutters). This is where the situation got even more frustrating -- the new company told us the gutters were too high above the roof line, causing water to pool at the gutter-roof line, which was making the leak worse. The leaf guards were also not helping. I called Chicago Roofing Services back. I told them this to which Bob, the owner, told me that the gutters were not aluminum, but galvanized, so they would have to remove part of the roof to put the gutters below the roof line. I found this sadly amusing as when I went back through my initial invoice, it SPECIFICALLY stated aluminum gutters were installed (which the new company confirmed when I asked). Also, due to some miscommunication between Bob's son and my other half, we decided to set up a conference call to rectify everything. We called for a week+ straight, we left more voicemails, I also emailed. To this day, they have NEVER returned our calls/emails. We were ghosted. I mean, they got their money. They won't refund. So what does an unhappy customer matter to them if they already have their money? Also worth noting, the second company came inside (keeping with COVID safety protocols), assessed the actual leak, took measurements, and importantly fixed the leak with only ONE visit (I specifically waited to write this review after the first heavy rain following second company's fix. That was last night and I am happy to report that after 3-4 months we are finally dry!). OH. The second company also cost us less to fix Chicago Roofing Service's bad job + fix the back wall and siding. They also guaranteed their work. So if you got this far in the review it's up to you to hire them; however, if you want my opinion hiring them will only lead you to disappointment, frustration, a waterfall in your house, and potentially a future mold problem that will cost you even more money. read more

Bob and his team were scheduled to arrive for a full inspection we had booked several weeks in advance. However, when they missed their window and did not call to let us know, I called to see what was up. Bob said they called multiple times and left voicemails. I politely told him that they didn't as my wife and I work at home. We are on our phones all day for work. Usually the saying goes that the customer is always right, but in this instance Bob proceeded to curse me out ... dropping multiple f bombs and hanging up on me. I am so thankful to Bob's team because they really saved us today! My 95 year old grandmother's bedroom started to leak yesterday (she asked us why it was 'raining' on her while she napped) and it progressively got worse. We called a few people for advice, but because of the 10 inch snowstorm that was already in progress they said we had to wait until Monday for help. The leak got worse over night and eventually we had four buckets and bowls on the ground and had to take out the mattresses from the room. I was super worried and frustrated that it would get worse so I called Chicago Roofing Services and Bob was so friendly and responsive! He asked me if the roof was flat and how long it had been happening and when we had our roof done. He said his team would be at our house in about an hour and a half. Robert and Miguel were really nice, respectful, and efficient. I was weary of what they could do with the ten inch storm (schools were even closed today!), but they brought a ladder and had the right tools to get up there. They shoveled the roof and eventually found two holes and some issues with a pipe. Bob called me and kept me updated and gave me a quote before proceeding with the work. I really appreciated that he sent me photos of the roof while we talked through the work his team had to do. They also showed me 'after' photos which made me feel more comfortable with the work they did. Thank you so much! After leaving a voicemail saying I needed a roofer and a mason, I received no reply. After 2.5 weeks I called again and the guy made an appointment to come out. But that appointment time came and went--he didn't come and didn't call to say he wasn't coming. I turned down other appointments for this day for this. When I called to ask about the no-show, the guy said he'd call his son "to find out what happened" and he would call me back in a few minutes. While waiting for a callback, I realized I'd be crazy to deal with this guy anymore. (This is not a big company, it's a guy working out of his home--which doesn't make them bad people; what's bad is their inability to respond to calls and to make and keep appointments, as other reviewers also note.) I dispute that the weather was too bad to come and look at the job, but the point is, I screwed up my day and inconvenienced a tenant because this outfit just left me hanging. read more

I may have been able to live with the guy who always answered the phone, Bob (owner?), consistently screwing up times for appointments. I also might have been able to live with him ignoring my directions. I told him not to clean the gutters and that's the only thing his guys worked on. What I can't live with is that when I called him while his crew was here to ask them why his team was doing the gutters he told me to f*** myself. Utterly unprofessional. The first couple of times when we all reached out to him, he was an absolute nightmare to deal with. He didn't believe us and he finally sent his guys to "fix" the leak. Not sure what they "fixed" but all of our roofs are still leaking! This past week, same leak... through our bedroom ceiling, we reached out to him again and this time he has completely IGNORED our calls and emails. This literally has been going on for a year now.
