I'm a bit surprised by all the rave reviews, to be honest. I mean, the sushi was fine. Nothing extraordinary, just... fine. Service was extraordinary. Extraordinarily slow. I think this is a factor of the space. There is an extremely small sushi bar, which only had room for two people doing all the work. Definitely a bottle neck for getting food out. Maybe we just had an off night, and given the total lack of other options for sushi in the area we may give it another try, but not enough good there to make it a priority. read more

We have been here before and it was really good but tonight it really left us disappointed. We were excited to get a 7:30 reservation and were really looking forward to some sushi tonight but we were immediately disappointed when our server told us that it would be an HOUR for any raw sushi, and so she recommends we order a hot meal...not exactly why we chose a sushi restaurant for our night out from the kids... and I don't come to a sushi place to order a steak or chicken! We ordered calamari (which was way over cooked and rubbery) and 2 other warm rolls(the only ones she said would come out fast) that the server recommended. Yelp friends, what in the world just happened?? I just had a middle-of-a-hip beach town dining experience in the middle of a small town in Indiana! The owner was a delight! So friendly, warm and welcoming! We are outside and it was so peaceful and relaxing! There is a little bar in the back of the patio area, and the patio has whimsical lights and comfy seating. The menu is not overwhelming but there were a great number of choices. Here's a MUST: The ceviche was INSANE! It tasted like vacation at the beach, I had to remind myself that I was in Indiana! Please please please do not miss the ceviche! Just to be transparent- we ordered one and then had to order another- and there were only three of us ladies!! Haha!! I had a couple of sushi rolls and they were fresh and delicious! My friend had steak which she said was very flavorful and it was served with potatoes that were crazy yumm! The owner said they were prepared with Japanese mayonnaise and we were convinced we needed to find some of this stuff immediately for our own potato making experiments! There was a Japanese craft beer that was quite pricey ($10!!) but man oh man it was a dang tasty brewskie and if I wasn't living on a teachers salary I would have had 2 more!! A delicious splurge! Crazy that this place is based in Westfield, but I'm here to tell ya- that patio was so chill and the food was so fresh and flavorful I left feeling like I was transported to some cool beachy locale! 5 stars, but understand I'm rating this on a curve. If this was in downtown Indy (or any other sizable city) it would be a four star rating; not the best sushi I've ever had and slow to get the food, but this is Westfield, IN! Let's get the slight annoyances out of the way first. . .parking on Park St. is a nightmare. There are a limited number of spots available for Chiba, Italian House, Rail, and Greek's. The public lot down the street, whilst large, still fills up pretty quickly on the weekends. Second, the other reviewers comments regarding the pace at which sushi is prepared are correct. You're going to be waiting a while if it's busy. Now, the good stuff. . . the space is super-freaking cool. The outdoor/stage area is hip and the back bar area (second building) is where you want to sit. Service was solid with detailed explanations of options/specials. I like the fact that they offered to make any of the specialty rolls with the weekend special fish (Hawaiian fish featured). Teresa said the lemongrass hot and sour soup was some of the best she's ever had. We ordered four rolls. Two were excellent, one was above average, and the fourth was meh. This is a great place for a date/night out/kid-free evening. My wife and I really enjoyed our meal at Chiba. We arrived in the early evening on a Saturday and they were already pretty booked up, but the hostess was able to seat us at the bar. The restaurant is a retrofitted house and garage with a large patio deck that encompasses the entire back yard, super cool. We ate in the bar, which is in the garage, and found the ambiance really charming. Both the environment and the friendly staff made it feel like a barbecue at a friend's house. The sushi was good. We really enjoyed the kamikaze, eel and avocado, and tempura sweet potato rolls (the sweet potato rolls came with a really interesting sauce on the side that was very good.) read more

Our first time was nearly perfect! We couldn't have asked for a better experience celebrating my husband's success at work. We booked on OpenTable. Requested to be in the bar (out back) for dinner on a Friday night. Our server was amazing & so was the food. We had the potstickers, crawfish fried rice, thom yum soup, and a couple sushi rolls. We especially liked the Kona beer; I had 2 of the IPAs in a frosty bottle. The ambiance is awesome & we just wish the live music would have started on time. So, this place is in an eclectic neighborhood outside Westfield. It reminds me of a college town style restaurant area. Chiba is set in a house converted into a restaurant. The building and grounds are well maintained and the service is beyond compare. Ashley was amazing and the owner came out to chat with us. If you're waiting, ask for a tour of the place - it is beautiful. Now, for the real part - the food! The Sashimi platter was well laid out with fresh fish. Their rolls are very good as well. I had an Eel and Avocado Roll - again, it was all very fresh. For a finisher, I had the Mardi Gras roll. Lots of fish and topiko in different flavors. The roll has slivers if lemon in it, which was good but very strong. In all, it earns the 5 stars through excellent food, great staff and a nice place to eat. Thanks! read more

Food: The rolls are all excellent. Even the hot ones are wonderful which I don't tend to order personally but I have tried with friends. All of the ceviches are yum and served with lightly seasoned wonton chips (pretty sure that's what they are anyway). This is one of the few sushi places if I have leftovers I will box them up and take them home. I rarely order dessert I'm an appetizers person but the bread pudding here is really good. I think they have some actual entrees on the menu but I've never had one so I can't comment. Cocktails: So many delicious cocktails it can be hard to choose. The Kokomo has coconut water in it so you can pretend it's a healthy drink and have a few. ;) Atmosphere: Both the inside and outside area is super cute and they have excellent service and you can tell they understand customer service. I was most recently here for a girls lunch and they didn't have one of the rolls we ordered and the owner brought us over something complimentary with the bad news. Pure class. I feel like the vibe is fun and chill. Good for a group, date night, or girls lunch. What a great addition to Westfield! Located in an former and charming home, this new sushi spot fits right into this up and coming Westfield area. It's a little confusing when you walk up to it as there are two buildings. For dinner, go to the building on the left...Walk straight to the building in the back if you want to hit the bar. We were there for dinner so after we checked in, the host walked us thru the cute, little multi room restaurant out the back along a charming walkway that included hanging lights and tables for seating and into the bar in the back. Yes, there are two separate buildings that make this place up. We sat in the bar. Tiny but manageable. TRY THE SHORT RIB TEMPURA! It was soooooooo good. Tender, delicious. A real gem. Gyoza could be better...Too bad too because my fam lives some gyoza. Sushi was on point. Their chefs special was probably my favorite. Banana bread tempura pudding was another hit. Update: Tried some more stuff and everything has been 5/5. Had some Hawaiian sashimi with sea salt, truffle oil and scallions-- wow. The staples of the spicy salmon crunch and all the nigiri are the absolute freshest consistently. The brickyard sushi roll had salmon, tuna, avocado and smelt roe( fish egg). Lemongrass soup had crawfish, citrus and slightly spicy seasoning. Crispy duck salad was made very well; duck was braised for a few day, then it was flash fried that gave it the crispiness. Knowledgeable staff was very attentive; answered our questions.
