We have been customers of Chiarugi Hardware, for 35 years. Helpful advice, kind service, and extra care are traditions that get polished by Paul every visit. We depend on Paul to make our extra keys. Sometimes our old lock rebels against a new key, Paul will do his magic on the grinder so the key works more easily. This is a small store, so Paul may have to check with his warehouse for an item, and he does! I don't recall using a credit card ever, so join me in paying the old fashioned way. I went to Chiarugi's by chance, and I'm so glad I did! The owner, Pauly, was very helpful and friendly. He helped me find what I was looking for and insisted I come back if I had any problems or needed any additional help (with putting up some blinds). The extension I bought for the screwdriver ended up being the wrong fit for the drill, so I went back to see if I could exchange it, and he gave me a second one at no charge. I think he felt bad I had to come back, but there was no way he could've known it was the wrong size. Unlike any other store, he holds himself responsible for what he sells to his customers. He treats everyone he walks into his store very well, and I intend to go there for tools, light bulbs, cleaning products- all of it. They have my business for sure. read more

What a great hardware store! They helped me get my keys copied fast after I just moved in to the neighborhood. Looks like they only take cash right now. A lot of brick and mortar shops like this have a hard time dealing with high processing fees for credit and debit cards. This makes it harder for businesses like this to compete with corporate run stores. I recommended bitcoin as an alternative and the owner told me another customer expressed interest in paying with bitcoins as well. If this owner reads this I would like to recommend bitpay.com or Coinbase.com for cheap bitcoin payment processing. Great customer service! Glad they were open on Christmas Eve! read more

I had to write about my service at Chiarugi. Went in yesterday to get two keys made and also to inquire about options for locking a bifold closet door. They gave me all my options and I ended up not buying anything as I wanted to think about the options. I than went to pay for the keys with a credit card and he either didn't take them or maybe the amount wasn't big enough (sorry didn't clarify this) but than said to take the keys and come back with cash. He kept saying don't worry about it....I will make sure I go back and pay and keep going there for with my business. As other people have said, this is the kind of business we need to keep in our neighborhoods. read more

My wife came here to make keys and was short about $10. We really needed the keys made that day and the owner let her take the keys and asked that she would just stop by with the rest of the money the next day. This is what a Ma and pop store is all about. The keys work great unlike Home Depot. I know there are a lot of college renters in the area and they should all go here. I have been going to Paul for my household upkeep since moving to the neighborhood in 2010! He is extremely knowledgeable, efficient and really does care that you get the product you need and that any problem you have is solved. Recently, I needed a few keys made after mine had snapped in the cold. I brought my roommates key, and Paul was able to match it and get them cut very quickly. The keys work perfectly! I can't stand going to Home Depot for making copies of keys. Every single time I have to come back because at least one key doesn't work. When you need to make copies of keys for tenants this becomes a big issue. Chiarugi Hardware does a great job every time and I've never had a any problems.
