Came here for dinner with a good friend who works nearby and recently discovered this place. Staff was lovely - attentive and friendly, the food was delicious (paté for starters, Montauk sea bass with marbled potatoes, wild skate with haricots verts, crème brûlée, and profiteroles), and the ambience was nice - dim but nicely so, and a great place to relax and chat. We arrived around 7:15 on a Wednesday and by 8 all the empty tables around us had filled. Probably best for couples or very small groups. I'd definitely recommend and come back! read more

Exceptional experience. Friendly and helpful staff, great food (had chestnut praline crêpes and aptly-named roasted bliss potatoes), and well-made drinks. read more

One of top restaurants (not just French Bistro) in the area, period. This stretch of Atlantic Ave., has seen a bunch of high quality restaurants emerge over the past few years, hopefully that trend continues. read more

Great place for decent French food. Well priced. Portions are big. Never walk away hungry. Just decent good food for a good price.

Still love this place. Came here for dinner with two friends and the waitress was amazing. She did her job with efficiency and care. She also had lots of compliments for our food choices which just made us feel good about ourselves. For dessert she suggested the proliferitoles which were amazing and was no where close to the most expensive dish. She also didn't pressure us to get individual dessert and even suggested that we share since she could see how full we were. The food was great as always. read more

went here the other night for a meal. we ordered the charcuterie as an appetizer. it was a very small portion. the pieces of meat they gave were ok. it came with 2 different types of pate. i didn't like either one and i love pate. it also came with some toasted bread that was just wheat bread from a grocery store loaf that tasted terrible. i ordered the steak for my meal with broccoli rabe. the steak was awful and the broccoli rabe was awful. my friend had some mussels with fries. i tasted the fries which were really good. i didn't taste the mussels but my friend said they were ok. the staff was really nice and they have a speakeasy in the basement. the speakeasy is cool and would be a great date place. all in all i would go back for drinks but not for food. read more

We really wanted to like this place, but it fell short in so many ways. The atmosphere was great, as was the decor, however after being seated everything started to go downhill. The bottle of wine we ordered was perhaps the only highlight of the evening. Aside from that the food was mediocre (I've had better moules frites at hole in the wall places in France and Belgium) and the service deplorable in that we were rushed to the point where I feel I should have just grabbed dinner at some fast food drive thru and called it a night. We had a reservation, which to me means: I have at least an hour and a half, if not a bit longer, to enjoy my meal. That wasn't the case at Chez Moi where we barely had enough time to finish our starters before the mains were upon us. The mussels were decent though some were undercooked and others too rubbery, and though I made my dairy allergy clear I'm still quite sure butter had been added to the broth. The fries served with the mains were an over salted and limp let down, and the steak tartare was less about the perfect combination of ingredients and more about the over abundance of some mayo type sauce. Our bottle of wine - the sole highlight of the evening - had to be chugged down thanks to the server's heavy hand and the generous glasses she poured in a bid to get us to finish off the bottle as quickly as possible. Our unpleasant evening ended when we were presented with the bill (though we each had more than half a glass of wine left to drink). When the server came around to collect the bill and realized we hadn't signed it just yet we were told rather rudely: "Just so you know I'm going to need the table in a couple of minutes." It was the final insult after an already disappointing evening. Mind you our biggest regret was bothering to leave a tip (though trying this restaurant in the first place could possibly trump that error in judgement). read more

Had one of the most disappointing meals in a long time tonight. Gave this place a rest after some bad tuna tartar in August. Went back tonight and had the cod special. Could not eat it. Nice bar, go for drinks, eat someplace else read more

If I could give zero stars to this place I would. Worst service ever -- populated by rude people. While the food is ok, there are many wonderful French restaurants in NY. You don't need to go to a place filled with staff who seem to think being welcoming to their guess is beneath them. read more

This is a very classy restaurant with a hip crowd and vibe. It is a bit crowded and it gets noisy in here. I love the atmosphere and it feels like a restaurant that belongs in the east village. They have a solid menu with delicious sides. The entrees were flavorful and very filling for a guy who normally eats a lot! They have a full bar with many drinks to choose from. It's a great place to take a date. The wait could be a little long during peak hours, but from time to time they'll allow you to hang out downstairs and have a drink first. read more

I come here once a week for my oyster fill and each time I fall in love with this place just a little more. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere here makes you want to linger forever (how I judge a good place). There is always nice music on and I can't help but feel like I am in a quaint Parisian bistro. Chez Moi - you won my heart. Oh and how can I forget their sourdough bread - to die for! read more

Lovely and cozy restaurant with great food. The Foie Gras appetizer is so delicious.

Service was horrible - I'm pretty sure our order didn't actually go in until I mentioned we'd been waiting for our original drink order longer then people who'd sat down well after us were already eating their food. The waitress explained that some of the drinks we ordered take a long time to make, which is weird because i'd been staring at the bartender for the past 10 minutes chatting up a couple of women at the more or less empty bar. The waiter elbowed me in the back of my head while serving the table next to us. But all that nonsense aside, the food itself was pretty bland. So... read more

I wanted to try everything on this menu! They have a large variety of mussels on their menu and the portion is huge! I would recommend sharing with another person. I got the duck as an entree. Delicious! I thought the portion was a little small when they first placed it infront of me. but then i couldn't finish! For appetizers i had the french onion soup and pâté. read more

Great staff. Wonderful ambience. The grilled octopus is my favorite.

Came here with my boyfriend's family (who are French might I add) and some friends. The food was delicious and even impressed the French natives ; ) I had the French onion soon which was exceptional, the branzino special was excellent, and the desserts didn't disappoint either. I loved the interior and atmosphere: warm lighting, mirrors, and friendly staff. Even though I am from Manhattan, I will def. be heading back to sample the rest of the dishes on the menu. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent French bistro with exactly what a bistro should have - onion soup, steak frites, mussels, croque monsieur/madame, Kronenbourg, nice looking wine list. Husband and wife owners who live locally. What's not to like? read more

One hundred percent lovely. A date? Come here. Decor, menu, music and perhaps most notably, the service: just right.

Had dinner here with a couple of friends last night. Great atmosphere, slightly cramped tables but not really, and excellent excellent food. I had the burger with mixed vegetables, and my friends had the french onion soup and mussels. Burger was excellent, with a delicious bun and good texture. Very good service and very reasonably priced compared to their direct competition (there are a number of excellent places in this neighborhood). I'll be back. read more

ok anyone who is complaining about food or service at this restaurant is either a whiner or maybe they came in on an off night. I was here yesterday (so sat night) and had a fantastic dinner with my parents. Now i want to preface this review by saying I've never been to "Colonie" which is a restaurant that everyone is comparing this one to, but standing on its own this place was great. This is the rundown, our waitress was nice, prompt and unimposing. Our wine was delicious and so were the apps, we had 1. beef salad - fantastic, 2. Duck sausage (special) - very good, 3. Foi gra (sorry dont know how to spell this) - i dont like duck liver but my dad who ordered it loved it so there, 4. tuna tare tare - very good. Then we all had soup - me my husband and my mom had the french onion - great, my dad had the special - ok (not my fave but my mom tried it and liked it). Finally we each had an entree - i had the fish - very good if a little oily, my mom the chicken paillard (special) very good with roasted potatoes and spinach, my dad had the duck - delicious and my husband the steak frittes - really good but a little salty for my husbands taste (he is sensitive to salt) id say if you like things less salty then more maybe ask that they take it easy on the salt in this dish. We didnt have room for desert (too stuffed) but for all that food the bill came to $218 (without the tip). For a dinner for four with apps soup entree and wine, id say thats very reasonable! Now i want to try this colonie place to see what the hoopla is all about. All in all this place is a solid 4 star, with great food good service and good atmosphere - will be back for sure. read more

I hate to see that some people did not enjoy their experience at Chez Moi. My husband and I go here almost every Friday night. We love the food and the great social experience we always have when we sit at the bar. Of the probably 40 times we've been here, I can only think of maybe two occasions where our experience didn't match up to all the other times. I find that they are very accommodating with their guests needs including large groups, children, dietary restrictions (gluten free), etc.... read more

I probably had the best meal I've ever had here. I came here for a simple brunch with my SO on a Sunday. At first I was kind of disappointed that there was no brioche on the menu and I may have mentioned that out loud, (I don't quite remember), but soon afterwards our waitress came up to us to suggest their brioche! Their almond brioche was off the menu and of course, we ordered it. We also got the Eggs Benedict and Croque Monsieur(?) which was essentially a grilled cheese, but is possibly the best grilled cheese we've ever had. Each order came with a side of potatoes and salad. Each were seasoned to perfection. Usually I am reluctant to finish any of the sides because they are either too bland or the potatoes are too starchy, but I felt like I couldn't get enough. The Eggs Benedict was also amazing and perfectly cooked and my SO enjoyed his dish as well. The almond brioche we had was heavenly. It was so soft and the top was slightly crunchy which provided great texture. It came with whipped cream and a perfectly cut strawberry. Even those were perfect. The main meal was so great that we even opted for dessert, which we usually do not do. We ordered the creme brûlée. Needless to say, it was very well done. The sugar was melted well and the cream was delicious. The service was spot on as there wasn't too much attention, but we definitely did not feel ignored or unnoticed. The decor and music were also great. Furthermore, the prices for brunch are great! We will definitely be back for brunch, lunch, and dinner. read more

Chez Moi is a fantastic find -- an excellent, but reasonably priced french restaurant, with no pretense. The food at dinner varies from excellent to unbelievably excellent and the service is always impeccable. While the menu choices are sparse, everything on it is delicious, and the often-changing daily catch is always superb. If you like shellfish, they have a $1 oyster deal before 7pm most nights and they have mussels prepared several different ways. It's small and they seem to do a good bit of walk-in traffic, so it can fill up quickly, but they take reservations by phone or email, and you can often get a reasonable reservation for the same day. read more

I have been here a few times for dinner and it has become one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The waitstaff is fantastic. Every server that I have had here has been incredibly nice as well as knowledgeable about the menu and different wines. I have also really enjoyed the food. My first time here, I had the risotto of the day which was fantastic. My friend tried the mussels and loved them. I have also tried the steak tartare and the steak frites; both were delicious. I have tried to go to brunch here a couple of times but unfortunately the wait was about 45 minutes every time. I believe they take reservations for brunch so I may have to try to do that some weekend. read more

I really hate giving a place a bad review, but Chez Moi left me with no choice. The mussels in coconut broth gave me food poisoning. I literally woke up in the middle of the night with terrible stomach pains. They tasted okay at the time, but the broth was pretty strongly flavored so any off flavors must have been disguised. Needless to say I won't be returning. read more

I'm SO SO SO happy that I live around the block from Chez Moi. I have been here numerous times since moving to Brooklyn Heights in August. We wanted to order the baby greens, grilled salmon and seared duck breast; however, they were out of the duck breast so the waitress suggested we instead order the duck confit (the day's special). The greens weren't too bad, very simple. We never got to try the salmon because the waitress got the order wrong and brought us 2 duck confits (minimal and insincere apology). The duck confit was covered with fatty, soggy skin and I'd have been a bit disappointed if something I made at home came out that way. And I'm not very good in the kitchen. The worst part was that at the end of it, the waitress never asked how we liked the duck. After seeing that we had eaten most of what was on our plate, she remarked, "See? That wasn't so bad, was it?" She also mentioned that the chef was thinking of replacing the seared duck breast with the duck confit. This was our first visit so we've never had the duck breast, but it's hard to imagine the confit being an improvement over much of anything. Despite our lukewarm response to her attempt to sell the duck at the end of the meal and her mistake, she didn't offer to take anything off the bill. The one cocktail we ordered was quite good, and the glass of wine a fairly generous pour. read more

Wonderful evening! Mussels in white wine/shallot sauce; French onion soup; fried frog legs and purred mushroom soup! Topped off with Monday Jazz downstairs! A lovely way to end a holiday weekend read more

Authentic French bistro fare, classic offerings with no BS deviations. Very consistent. Fried frogs legs are my go-to -- with another app, just right for dinner. Bartenders and drinks are excellent. French-owned -- was there last night and a couple of the waiters (possibly the owner?) were trying a bottle of wine and discussing its merits. Probably best value on that stretch of Atlantic Avenue. read more

Both our entrees were very good (steak and frites, and steak tartare) and we had the best tarte tatin in a while!

These 3 stars go to the hostess, blonde girl that made us move ( not even asked) because a party of three wanted to sit at the bar... We come here to hang out at their bar, great music, great cocktails and great bartender... Hostess, you suck, need some hospitality skills here. read more

First time here on New Years Eve 2020. Service at the upstairs bar was mediocre at first but as the evening wore on it improved. Classy cocktails on the menu. What made this place truly stand out was the combination of speakeasy covertness on the outside, and a secret bookshelf that you can walk through and descend a flight of stairs into a secret basement lounge and party hall. The party down there was obviously disproportionate due to the NYE celebrations but nevertheless I came away confident that the staff was kind and welcoming yet offering a professional, classy experience. Would aim for it as a Friday night drinks and dance. Side note, the DJ was very talented and tasteful. Great blues and swing. read more

This a sweet little French bistro that serves as yet a limited menu with delicious food. 3 of us ate there on a Friday night before the official opening. Everything we ordered was very good - the charred octopus was generous and tasty, the bouillabaise had 2 of those yummy head-on shrimp. The mussels were excellent with tasty broth and the fries were good but not as good as Bacchus or Bar Tabac and they had fried garlic sprinkled on top which made them a tad more greasy. The roasted market fish with veg. was simple yet delicious. Wines were good and reasonably priced. The service was attentive but flawed, untrained but willing and sweet. The big downside was the noise - by the time we were wrapping up and it became crowded the noise levels were unpleasant and made conversation at our table of 3 very difficult. The white tile and brick and lack of wood and cushioning made the noise level crushing. It was a relief to leave and people were clamoring to get in. The lighting was low and hard to read the menu and our corner table could have used a hanging or sconce light. Next time I would sit at the bar near the door to or go on a Tuesday or Wednesday. So 4 out of 5 for food and 2 out of 5 for the noise. read more
