The service is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I ordered two things and while the employee was packaging the bread, I walked up to the cashier. I told her someone is already preparing my order. She tells me in french to pay to her co-worker and not her - totally fine. I take out my card and move to the side to look at the other pastries they have. There was a long line behind me and the cashier seemed like she wanted to take other orders so naturally, I MOVED TO THE SIDE. Then, the cashier begins YELLING at me. Not loudly speaking, but YELLING. She continues to yell "NON, MADAME." Utterly shocked and confused I look at her and her co-worker. After yelling at me 3 times in french that "I must pay her coworker," she yells in english, "YOU PAY MY CO-WORKER, BUT HERE." Her co-worker knew that I spoke french because I ordered and conversed with her in French (I live, study, and work in Paris). I glared at the co-worker because I was furious at how rude the cashier was being and the co-worker sheepishly smiled and ran over to me asking me if I wanted anything else, in french.
Overall, was it so wrong that I chose to move to the side and look at the pastries instead of standing directly in front of her for her to "monitor" me or something? Anyways, the cashier (the blonde one) was absolutely awful and rude. I've never experienced service like this in any part of the world. At first, I thought it must be because I'm Asian and so she just assumed I spoke no french (which would be odd because in the end, she clearly spoke english and if she assumed I didn't speak french then why scream at me in french? Also, I was speaking to my mother in english in front of her so I cannot wrap my head around why she was acting like a legitimate psychopath.)
Oh, and the bread is subpar. If you are a tourist going around Le Marais, avoid this place at all costs. It's pretty expensive, nothing great, and you can honestly get a better baguette from a G20 than here. Not worth it, never going back. I've read over reviews of this place and it seems like other people have had pretty bad experiences here too. read more
