    Persian tea

Very nice staff, this is a really cute place. I had the roast beef pizza, persian tea and persian nachos. I really liked the pizza, it reminded me of a roast beef sandwich. There are are call buttons on each table so you don't have to worry about waiting for your server to notice you. It sits on a busy street with a nice view for people watching.

The sandwiches and Persian pizza definitely remind me of Iran! The mortadella sandwich was so tasty! It had pistachios in it and the sauce they add is super good. The Persian pizza is incredible. Tastes just like pizza in Iran. Lots of toppings and a nice crust. I've ordered to-go from here a few times and 9 times out of 10 it's been correct. Overall great Persian food spot to hit up!

    Spicy bomb pizza

Amazing food - try the spicy bomb pizza it was so good and thin and we tried it with the special sauce (garlicky) and ketchup and it made it even better! The service was really friendly and the ambiance is casual but cute!

*Currently take-out only but have implemented great safety measure for take-out* At present, they have set up tables at their front door containing the menu, where you just ring the number to order. Love grabbing sandwiches or pizzas from here when I'm in the area. They have a large selection to choose from of unique Persian style sandwiches. I have tried a couple but my favourite has to be their Roast Beef (lots of fresh parsley yum) and their Pizza Sandwich - full of flavour and fresh ingredients. The meat is Halal and service is great. Items are wrapped very well so you can just grab and go. A must to try!

Restaurant looked completely different from outside. When we walked in we felt we were walking into somebody's home but in a good way. There was a family on the dining table who were enjoying the meal. We were welcome by two very nice people and they seated us. Decor looked fancy but the prices are decent. Food is delicious. Here are 5 reason why we will Absolutely go back when we visit again. 1. We ordered sandwiches and they were delicious. Parsley added great taste to the sandwiches. Bread was perfect for this type of sandwich. 2. We were not too hungry so we ordered one large sandwich which was good enough for two people. We ordered Tea and tea was as delicious. 3. Service was wonderful. They were super nice and accommodating. 4. All meats are halal 5. Their pizzas looked amazing on the menu and in pictures. We really wanted to go back to try it this trip but Montreal offered too many good restaurants and we didn't have a chance to go back. We will be definitely going back to try their pizza next time.

With all the positive reviews, I honestly expected more from this restaurant. We came here only to try their famous Persian style pizza, but surprisingly, they were out of pizza dough! This was just so unacceptable! We had a few choices from the menu. Their menu was completely different from the one they have on their website. The prices and the number of meals were different. We tried the shredded-beef special sandwich and the pizza sandwich. I loved them both. The shredded-beef sandwich had an exceptional taste. I only ordered the pizza sandwich just to get the taste of their pizzas, which was amazing! P.S: Don't count on the 10% student discount cause they won't give you any!

You guys. I have the most endearing story to tell you about Chez Hailar. But just so you know, Chez Hailar is an Iranian restaurant that specializes in halal pizzas and subs with their own "special sauce". I didn't know this but Iranians seem to have their own spin on pizza (they add potato chip sticks and a special sauce on top) and it works! So here's my story: we visited Chez Hailar during #PizzaFest Mtl since I had previously tried it for delivery and loved it. While the food was delicious, the service was very slow. When I think of fast food, I don't think of sitting for 2 hours in a restaurant! It took 25 minutes before we received water. That's unacceptable! It also took a while longer before we received our drinks and pizzas - good thing it was worth the wait! The roast beef pizza is really unique and the vegetarian pizza is full of veggies. That Chez Hailar sauce though - yum. I could down that whole bottle. After another long wait and a failed attempt at getting a waiter's attention, I had to get up and ask for my bill. While that was annoying, the food is stellar. Chez Hailar felt so bad about my negative experience with the service that they sent an employee to apologize to my apartment in person. AND he brought me a freshly baked roast beef pizza. On the inside of the box, they wrote: "Please accept our sincere apologies. We would love to serve you @ChezHailar again." Maybe our last visit was a fluke and we were just unlucky with where we were sitting and how busy the restaurant got. Or maybe as they explained, it's normal as per Iranian customs to not want your customers to feel rushed. Regardless, I'm happy that management took my comments seriously and wanted to rectify the situation. It's rare that a restaurant would go out of their way to apologize face-to-face and send over a piping hot pizza! It's also heart-warming to see how important this family business is to them and I want to support that. Order in and enjoy their perfectly toasted subs and crispy, delicious and halal pizzas. I appreciate that while there's plenty of amazing halal meats available for the subs and pizzas, there's also a lot of vegetarian options. I'm really glad that I gave Chez Hailar a chance and I think you should too!

For muslims: its all halal! Enjoy! We highly recommend Hailar special pizza (Persian-style pizza) and shredded-beef Hailar special sandwich. Really delicious!

After some time with the menu, and pitchers of water having been delivered to the table, the server came to take our orders, food and drinks together. The appetizers were delivered before most of the drinks, with one guest not receiving their appetizer until the mains were being delivered. The server had a bit of a hard time remembering who had what, but with some direction, everything was delivered eventually. The food was nice. We had the Lahori fried fish, nicely spiced, fish cooked really well. My partner and I shared the Combo 2 with white meat chicken kahari, beef kebab, and garlic naan. The chicken was cooked very well. The curry paste was tasty. The kahari was served in a large metal bowl, very nice touch. I really enjoyed the kebab as well. The naan was factory made, not fresh. That was a bit disappointing. My fraise rose was delicious. My partner had a mango lassi and said it was acceptable but a bit too thick. The meal had a good spice level throughout. The portions are generous and very filling. Good value for money, however the menu does not make it clear that most dishes seem to be intended for sharing. At the end of the meal, it took some time for dessert to come out (included with the meal), and it seems only some people were asked if they wanted tea or coffee, our side of the table was not. Towards the end, the server simply stood at the other end of the table and asked, generally, if anyone wants anything else. The service might have been better on a busier day, but at 1pm on a Sunday, it was lacking a bit, and we felt a little bit like an inconvenience, even though we were the only people there. We would go back, just maybe for an evening date.

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.

I thought these guys may serve my left on table dish to someone else. We took the left over food and put it in a trash. The Nan was not bad except one fourth of the naan was not properly cooked, so we discarded that portion and ate the rest of the naan with the "DAL HALEEM" Service- the kid was from Afghanistan and was decent. The food is the main selling point here though. I've gotten the mixed platter and shawarma platter; both with generous servings of protein all doused in a flavorful sauce. Ordered the poutine recently and was also impressed how much they loaded the protein. It was a little on the saltier side and wished they had more cheese curds, but still pretty enjoyable.
