Came to this place after reading reviews. It was on the beach which was nice so view was great. We didn't have reservations but we came early enough where they sat us down immediately. Service was fine. I got the eggplant lasagne and it was slightly cold. I don't know what is up with Italians and serving cold bread, appetizers, and entrees. Nobody wants room temp food! My college days are over and I want grown up food . Anyways, this place is nothing to rave about. I also got the pizza and it was aight. BTW, nobody slices your pizza for you so you are left to use a butter knife and try not to cut your finger off or slide the sauce and cheese on your dress . Oh and I got suckered into tipping the entertainment . I mean how am I suppose to say no to a man whose holding a tip hat in front of me when he just played the trombone until he was blue in the face for 100 other guests. Over all, meh. read more

This is one the most famous restaurants on the Amalfi coast. Frequently visited by celebrities. They have an excellent caprese or tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad. Extra virgin olive oil, beautiful tomatoes, amazingly fresh basil, etc. try the fired anchovies! read more

Great food. Excellent staff. Perfect location. Went 4 nights in a row. Outshines every restaurant we've been to in Europe so far. read more

Chez Black - Italian Near Me - Positano, SA

Loved Chez Black, pizza, seafood and pasta all very good. Senior Black was very welcoming and the staff were fun singing and enjoying their work. Also delicious pizza came out heart shaped. read more

Fantastic location and cool vibe right on the beach. The guy at the next table thought Donatella Versace walked by...she didn't.

Had a wonderful lunch. Pasta, pizza, burrata all was good. They offer brunello and barolo by the glass which was nice friendly service

Not deserving of the current 4 star review. Felt like an upscale tourist trap to me. Tons of American tourists and nearly no Italian diners which is a red flag for me. Overly expensive. Good food but not worth going out of your way for; which by the way, this restaurant is only convenient if you are on the beach. I wouldn't return. Other Yelpers here give suggestions for alternative restaurants in town that seem more promising. read more

This is another restaurant that was recommended by my driver. It's totally expensive and it was decent but not really worth the money. We had the seafood linguini with prawns, a salad and spaghetti and meatballs and a glass of orange juice and a water. The bill came to €60. Also, unless you have reservations, you will be seated in the back of the restaurant even if all the front tables are empty. The front of the restaurant where the pedestrian traffic is was empty for over one hour until 2 people came to sit there. They actually turned away a couple that insisted in sitting in the front rather than be seated in the back. I don't get it. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch/small bite to eat. Right on Positano Spiaggia. Fun location and atmosphere. Food was what you expected. Average pizza al proschuitto. Very good prosecco. A little expensive but expected based on location near the tourists. About what we expected. read more

Not bad. You'll pay an extra €5 for each dish because its ocean front. Very touristy. Maybe just grab an appetizer and a beer and keep on.

We didn't have a dinner plan so randomly went to one of the restaurants on the beach. It looks it's been around for a long time, so we gave it a go. I order sea urchin pasta which I had great expectations but it was just ok. First of all, sea urchin was bit different than the one I used to in US. And spaghetti was bit under cooked. My BF had house ravioli it was nothing special. Seafood pasta and shrimp dish I saw from the other table looked great. read more

I am so glad we ignored our hotel concierge and went to this "tourist trap" for dinner. It was an excellent "tourist trap" if I do say so myself. Customer service - excellent. Food - excellent. The owner visiting our table and welcoming us to Positano - excellent. The view, the food, the ambiance, etc. made this an all around perfect dinner. Another one to add to my "Must Eat" list when visiting Italy. Another acknowledgment to the amazingly handsome owner, Gianfranco, who suggested we visit his nightclub that evening. read more

When in Positano, expect to pay more and see more tourists than in other cities on the Amalfi Coast! Now that we have that out of the way, Chez Black was tasty. I tried the cuttle fish pasta (Thursday special) and it was very delicate with a light tomato sauce! The grilled squid was some of the best I've had so far. It was cooked just right and wasn't chewy. The portions are generous and service is prompt. They have free wifi and bathrooms downstairs. The restaurant is on the beach and there is plenty of people watching to do! read more

Excellent location and friendly staff. Very good food but definitely not in my top list of restaurants while there. The spaghetti with fried zucchini was great and the pizza was good(not great). Overall great location and good food. read more

A hot new restaurant with a wonderful ship theme has opened in positano! This would be the headline in 1985. However it's 2014 and this restaurant is starting to show its age. The all male waiter staff (from what I can tell) wore sailor outfits. One in particular was a great waiter, but his shorts were falling down and his shirt was hanging out. The pizza chef also looked like a slob. Though these are all silly things to pick on. The food was bleh and uninspiring. I ordered a T-bone steak that was a quarter inch thick with almost no seasoning. Also no sides, which is fine but if I had known, I would have chose something else or ordered a side or two. My wife's risotto with sea food was under cooked and fishy. She also couldn't find a shrimp in there. The desserts were decent but ordinary. I did notice someone's pizza looked good and a sea bass that was nicely deboned by the server. I wouldn't bother coming here unless you really can't walk up some stairs to a better restaurant in positano. read more

Tourist trap. Ordered squid ink pasta and a seafood pizza. Pizza was alright but the squid ink pasta was just salty.... without any other flavour.. don't go. read more

Just came here for a pre dinner meal (everyone eats later here). We had the squid ink pizza and the octopus carpaccio and we were pleasantly supposed at how delicious both were. It is expensive because of the primo real estate but it's definitely worth it compared some of the others in the area. They even offered me a bib since I was wearing white and the pasta could stain. Good service by Italian standards! read more

I'm sorry I decided to try this place because I read something good in a blog post. Mediocre service, mediocre food, high prices compared to much nicer places. My spaghetti with mussels had broken pieces of shell inside, my salad no olive oil, burrata tastes like yogurt. My server took my knife without a second thought, nobody comes to ask you if you are ok. Do yourself a favor and go to Da Vincenzo or something. I with I had. Actually, I'll leaving food on my plate and going somewhere else. Seriously. read more

The location can't get much better, as it's located steps from the sand in Positano. With that said, the view comes with a cost. While the prices are high, the quality stands up to the price tag. It was very busy, so service was a bit slow. From a view and food standpoint, it was a 5 star restaurant. The service and cost dropped it down to 4 stars in my mind. I started with an octopus carpaccio, which was unequivocally the freshest octopus I've ever had. It was sliced perfectly thin and dressed very lightly. 3 members of our party got the tomato salad which was very fresh and delicious, and the other member got a delicious stuffed pepper. Not to mention, all food was served on very colorful dishes decorated with sea creatures! For our main course, most of us got their version of frutti de mare, which couldn't have been fresher. Altogether, a fantastic meal. Ps. They also had gluten free Gnocchi! read more

Nice location but the food was awful. Half of it was sent back and later decided to get dinner from another restaurant a little further from the beach that was great and half the price. I wonder if Salvatore ( the owner) has tasted this food recently? I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It'll ruin your trip! read more

Great experience at Chez Black. Our tour guide recommended this gem. Loved the vibe, the food and the beachy decor. Our waiter, Antonio was very delightful. I loved the photos on the wall, especially the photo of an adorable dog. Would love to come back if I had a chance! read more

My wife and I started out with house red and a brick oven Margherita pizza which was fantastic and the waiter had it made into the shape of a heart for us. We had the homemade linguine with pesto and gnocchi with mozzarella and tomato sauce - very good. To finish things - and us - off, we had the tiramisu, espresso and limoncello. I lovely experience thanks to Peppe, our waiter, the food and the lovely sparkling view of the sea. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant as it's very popular and we were staying in Positano for one night.. but unfortunately the service was terrible. Our waiter was Rosario. We ordered drinks and that took 20 mins to come. We eventually had the chance to order, we had the caprese and pizza. The food was fantastic but my husband asked for a refill of his beer 3 different times to Rosario and he didn't get it for 15-20 mins. We went here around 3-4pm, it wasn't THAT busy. It just made our experience shitty there even though the food and atmosphere was great. Very upsetting. read more

Really bummed. After reading three or four blogs about this place being amazing, we went here on our first night of our honeymoon, as it's literally next to our hotel. Pasta was decent, seafood was fishy, bread was stale. It all makes sense really, given the touristy vibe (pricey, prime location, waiters wearing sailor outfits).. regardless, bummed. Just a warning for those considering it. read more

Had very high hopes for this place as it came highly recommended bu locals and tourists alike for the seafood. Ordered white fish of the day and swordfish. Both were drowned in olive oil to the point you couldn't even taste the fish. Also, service was terrible. Took 15 minutes to even get acknowledged by our server and receive menus. Food came immediately but never checked back to refresh drinks or too see if we needed anything. Very disappointing all around read more

I love this restaurant! I don't care if it's a tourist trap. The food was amazing and the staff were fun and friendly. We didn't have reservations on a very busy evening but they squeezed us in. I got the black in pasta with cuttlefish and it was delicious! read more

Chez Black - Black ink pasta with cuttlefish - Italian Near Me - Positano, SA

This is a great place to dine near the beach, on the other hand, the flies are very bothersome. They are this way in almost all of the outside restaurants in Positano, so nothing against this restaurant, but be ready to be shooing them away from your food. The grilled swordfish was fresh and delicious, but the chicken salad was a weird mix of sweet corn, carrots, raw fennel, huge leaves of lettuce and dry chicken. I would suggest sticking with the seafood or pizza. The prices were very average for the tourist area near the beach, but it was fun to watch the painters crafting their canvas landscapes and listening to the ocean. They also own Rada, which is supposed to be a much better quality of food and higher prices. read more

Very busy lots of people watching. Food was good for it being so crowded. Right on the main drag by beach in positano. Went twice for lunch. Had mussels that were very good lots of butter. And pizza which was shaped like a heart and very cute. Make reservations to be safe. read more

I was in Positano for the day and honestly, didn't have high expectations for Chez Black since we were steered here by our tour guide (Vincenzo! You maniac driver, you!) BUT - I was very happy with my heart-shaped margherita pizza, which was about all I could stomach after being green and about to ralph the entire drive along the Amalfi coast. My only regret is that I didn't try anything with seafood in it - next time I'm bringing Dramamine for the ride! Great views, decent service, reasonable prices. read more

We made the walk down to the beach from our hotel one day to eat here for lunch. We only had pizza and a few quick drinks, but I thought the experience was pretty good. Service was friendly and attentive, which was good since we were in a bit of a rush and didn't want a long lunch. We tried a margherita pizza and spicy pepperoni pizza, both decent options. Pizzas were around 12-14 eur, a bit pricy but I guess to be expected when you're on the beach in Positano. Not sure if I'd try the other main dishes, but seemed satisfactory for pizza. read more

Ate here while visiting Positano. Located right on the beach and was very busy. Service was friendly and pretty quick even though they were slammed. Food was pretty decent. I just ordered a pizza and thought it was pretty good. Pretty cool to see pictures of all the celebrities that have been here over the year. They charge a service fee, which was the only restaurant we encountered that with in Italy, so that was disappointing. For being in such a touristy area not sure it can be beat out by any of the others. read more

Heard lots about this place by reputation. Famous people eat here etc, so we were looking forward to checking it out while staying in town after the Path of the Gods. Great location right on the main beach of Positano. We had a reservation for a rather large group, and the place was already full when we got there at 2000. Staff was very slow to come get our orders, but when I started to engage them directly for drinks, things started to pick up a bit. Very large seafood menu of course, as well as a fair number of pizzas. Overall I would rate it as OK based on the experience most of the people in my group had with the service and food. We will go back as it's a great location and has a nice ambiance, but I think their days of celebrity service may be well in the past (based on how old the pictures are hanging on the wall.) Don't let that dissuade you from going though. Just make sure you are going for the sights, sounds and smells, and not in the hopes of seeing someone famous. read more

This is the worst restaurant in Positano. The food does not even qualify for Italian food... Save your money and go to Olive Garden in the USA . After many years of eating in Positano, we decided to give it a try, but the food, bar, and service was horrible. We should have known at the outset when the host completely forgot about, and sat parties ahead of us, but we still persisted and entered. Big mistake. read more

Been here a dozen times over the years. It might be very touristy, but the food never disappoints. The menu is large, and almost every local dish appears on it. Lucky for us, they do a decent job at it. Even their pizza - traditional Neapolitan style - beats that of most restaurants on the peninsula. The pasta w/squid ink is a must try, especially if this will be your first time eating anything drowned in squid ink :-) read more

POSITANO restaurant with wonderful food, very welcoming host; Ate at this waterside restaurant several meals in a row.

Decent Pizza and beer.... service lacked enthusiasm... good views of the ocean. Free wifi.

The best restaurant I found in Positano. You would of thought it was a tourist trap since it's right in the harbor, but I found it sophisticated, delicious and had a really cool crowd. The owner and waiters looked like they stepped right out of GQ. Wait for a table out in front, it's all about being scene in Italy, as it should be ;) read more
