I really enjoyed our experience at Il Tridente. It's very difficult getting reservations. I recommend looking at their policy and setting a reminder in your calendar so you can book as soon as their books open. Especially if you're going during tourist season. We went in October and it didn't seem too busy at most places. We got a lovely seat with a view on their patio. The service and food was great! The restaurant itself was quiet and had a vintage hidden away feel to it. We ordered: Prosciutto and mozzarella 8/10 Seafood pasta: noodles were over cooked and soggy but flavor was great. I'll give it a 7/10 Seafood assortment: Some of the fishes were great others were too oceany like it wasn't prepared properly. 7/10 Affogato 9/10 Spritz 8/10 not bitter and prepared well Overall the food was good, some things were just hit or miss. We made reservations for lunch because I had heard so many great things about this restaurant and the hotel itself. The restaurant has one of the best views in Positano from the east side which is usually not appreciated as much as the west side. The whole terrace area and tableware is a pastel lover's paradise. We ordered Mezzi paccheri pasta with shrimps, lemon and basil, and Tiramisu. I absolutely loved each and every dish and especially the lemon pasta - so refreshing! We made lunch reservations to try to get the view during the day rather than at night. They called us to confirm the day before. Enter through the Hotel Poseidon. The view is breathtaking and the servers are generous to offer to take pics for you if your party. Lunch dress is casual, as the hotel's guests lounge by the pool nearby. We had the Dal Mare appetizer which was perfect to share and gave us just enough of three different items that it was the perfect start. We all opted to indulge in pasta dishes, each ordering a different one. Homemade Scialatielli pasta with catch of the day (sea bass) with yellow cherry tomatoes and seafood was flavorful and fresh. The spaghetti with clams was bright and lemony. The Linguine pasta "alla Nerano" with zucchini and cheese was my personal favorite, and the pasta our server recommended. View here is breathtaking!!! Was able to see the ocean and the hills, very romantic vibe. We made reservations in advance. I ordered the fennel salad which was refreshing and had mandarins in it (it was a nice fiber break from all the pasta). They gave free bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The veal steak was also delicious! It was just slightly overcooked for what we asked for (more medium than medium rare). Service was great. At Il Tridente, the terrace is spacious and the tables are large, unlike some terrace restaurants in other parts of town that squeeze as many tiny tables as possible onto a narrow sidewalk. We liked the following: * Antipasto Poseidon: tuna tartare with citrus, shrimp with candied ginger, and seared squid * Scialatielli pasta with fish, mussels, clams, and yellow cherry tomatoes * Paccheri pasta with shrimp, lemon, and basil We also ordered the paccheri pasta with cherry tomatoes, burrata, and basil. The pasta and tomatoes were good, but the burrata did not taste fresh and was very salty. It was almost like the burrata was brined too long, which was something I had never experienced before in Italy. The only entree that we did not like at all was the multi-grain eggplant sandwich. I am vegan and I had some choices but there was no menu like Tridente that had the style and sophistication for vegan food like theirs did. Not only does their restaurant fulfill the needs of any diet. They do it with care and love. Liliana is the manager and did she go just ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. It was our 1 year anniversary and she made sure we had a beautiful table with service that was impeccable. She came in to frequently check on us and see if we needed anything and ensure the food was nothing but phenomenal. The atmosphere at Tridente is probably the best view you can get overlooking all of positano in one glance. It was truly a magical experience dining with them. We made reservations for both the cocktail bar and dinner so that we could have aperitivo first. The drink selection at the bar was fairly basic and a bit pricey, but the drinks were good and the view is spectacular. We had complimentary small bites with aperitivo, and they also brought us a few bites of fried Mozzarella, gnocchi and panino, which are all delicious. Service was very good and attentive. We then went to our table for dinner. We chose paccheri pasta with redfish ragu, an agnolotti pasta stuffed with monkfish, and a main dish of roasted amberjack. Each dish was prepared well and was highlighted the seafood. The roasted amberjack was probably our favorite overall. If anything, I would have liked something to brighten the flavor of the pasta dishes, like a little more acidity. Was excited to take my partner who is vegan bc they offer a special vegan menu. I even made a note in our reservation. They list closing at 10 but offer reservations up until 945? We arrived for our 9pm reservation at 830 and were seated into a mostly empty balcony which we were excited about as the view was amazing. The service was decent and they brought us out a little bite each of shrimp from the chef which was appreciated but weird bc my partner is vegan and we let them know ahead of time. Then she ordered the vegan zucchini appetizer that came out with ricotta inside and was not the vegan version on the menu. Then all the entrees were cold when they arrived bc clearly they were closing and didn't want to remake them after the first course mistake. The music was turned off at 915 and we finished our meal in silence and could feel the unspoken nudge that the restaurant would be closing soon. I would not have made a 9pm reservation had I known prior they did not want guests that late. And in addition, they don't read the notes you put in the reservation bc my vegan partner was served shrimp and cheese even after letting them know prior to us dining w them. I've worked in hospitality for 17 yrs and I know sometimes mistakes happen, but I would not dine here again, especially for our e220 bill. The view was 10/10 and it's a beautiful hotel. However, you could find the same view and food for much less elsewhere in Positano. read more

We made reservations prior to our arrival and got seated immediately. We arrived around 7pm (dusk time) and the view was spectacular as you could see the skies changing from daylight to night. The space is well spread out yet very cozy! The servers were extremely polite and gave us good recommendations for vino. We got the fresh fish and the chicken and loved every bit of it. While in the Amalfi coast we really enjoyed the Costa Di Amalfi wines as they were local and had a mild spicy flavor to it. It was beautiful. They had a few in their menu. Their fresh sea bass was cooked in a salt cover and it was extremely soft. It came with some veggies and was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place :) read more

We were lucky enough to be passing the Hotel Poseidon during lunch time, to see a sign for Il Tridente. We asked if they had availability and we were seated right away. We must've picked a great time, because 15 minutes later it was pretty filled up. Tridente is probably a little on the pricey side compared to most in the area, but I can attest that it's totally worth it. Seating on the patio, it's a perfect view. Definitely go during the day, so you can take it all in. We ordered prosciutto mozzarella for the table to start. So fresh, and so good. It's my staple appetizer when in Italy, and never can go wrong. My entree was their gnocchi alla sorrentina. Little baby pillows that basically disappeared in your mouth. It wasn't your typical heavy gnocchi dish either which felt great. Some of the best gnocchi I've ever had. The fresh mozzarella on top makes all the difference. Tridente probably was our favorite lunch spot in Positano. It's a tad pricey for some, but for the food and view, it's well worth it. read more

Located within Hotel Poseidon, this restaurant offers sweeping panoramic views of Positano. Luckily, you don't need to be a guest to reserve a table for lunch or dinner. Il Tridente was the first lunch we had during our time in Positano and we were seated out on the terrace where we could take in the view of the colorful houses and sea below. I'll admit, I originally came here solely for the view. However -- pleasant surprise -- the food actually really impressed me! I had the homemade scialatielli pasta with eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and provolone del Monaco (€21), which was surprisingly the best pasta I had on this trip. Scialetielli is a basil-flavored ribbon pasta rolled slightly thicker and cut shorter and wider than the traditional tagliatelle. And the basil flavor melded really well with the eggplant and the melted cheese. And for dessert? The quintessential dessert on the Amalfi Coast is the lemon delight (delizie al limone in Italian), so of course we had to try that. It's essentially a lemon sponge cake with a lemon and vanilla-bean infused cream. We ended up trying this dessert at 4 different restaurants / cafes during our time here, and this one was my favorite. If you come to Positano, this is the restaurant to eat at! The food is delicious and the view is perfect. The only downside is that the restaurant is pretty difficult to get to from the beach. Its easy to get lost going up the large amounts of steps and little side streets. Its located on one of the upper floors of the Hotel Poseidon. Once we finally got to the restaurant the view was worth it! Their little terrace faces the rest of Positano and you can see all the colorful buildings and the ocean. They also have beautiful plants and trees surrounding it. Its very picturesque and pretty. The staff were all very attentive and helpful. The whole experience was very enjoyable. The food was so good and they have lots of vegetarian options! They even marked the vegetarian options on the menu. We had the eggplant bruschetta appetizer to start. I had never had eggplant prepared this way but it was one of the best things I tried while in Italy. For lunch I had the seitan sandwich. It had lots of great flavor and was filling. There was also a nice desert selection, and we tried the lemon delight and the tiramisu. Another one of my favorite places to dine in Positano. Located in the Hotel Poseidon, this restaurant has spectacular views of the water and of Positano. While they serve breakfast lunch and dinner, we visited a couple of times for an afternoon lunch as well as stopped by in the evening for drinks to enjoy the wonderful views. The staff is excellent, asking when you arrived and remembering you between visits. We were not guests in the hotel but were served with the same grace that the actual guests were. To get up to the restaurant level you need to enter at the lobby level and then either walk up the stairs or take the elevator to the 4th floor. Walking is fastest as the elevator is slow given this is a historic building. Try to sit by the railing as the views there are the best. And know you will be charmed by the beautiful ceramic dishes that they use to plate your food. They are so in keeping with the local flavor! They have a nice list of wines by the glass as well as limoncello drinks. My favorite meal had to be the caprese salad which was super fresh and large enough to share coupled with spaghetti with clams, also perfectly prepared. We wiled away many hours enjoying bloody marys, and drinks while enjoying the beautiful views. Lunch for 4 with drinks ran about 200 euros. With such great service, food and those amazing views, you can bet I will be back the next time I am in Positano! read more

Il Tridente was the last dinner we had during our trip to Positano. The seating is all outside on a terrace covered in flowers. The view is simply breathtaking. Go before sundown so you can watch as the sun fades over the town. We actually arrived here about an hour after our reservation time due to a longer than expected activity that day. We felt terrible showing up so late, but the restaurant was accommodating and squeezed us in anyway. The service was excellent throughout the entire evening. The meal started with a "taster item". Something from the chef that you didn't order. Many of the restaurants in Positano do this, but being picky eaters, most were not enjoyable. Il Tridente's taster item was actually delicious! It was a fried ball of cheese and zucchini that was light and salty. We each ordered a pasta and meat course. Everything was delicious, but I highly recommend the lemon pasta. It was in a very light lemon cream sauce. Since lemons are grown in the surrounding area, this dish is incredibly fresh and pretty unique. We also had an eggplant parmigiana appetizer that was incredible. **note that they have a full vegetarian menu with creative dishes that sounded great. Warning- there are about 1000 (likely an over-estimate) stairs to get here, so leave your hotel early! read more

I had a great time here, emailed them to make sure we had reservations for lunch time on the day we were in Positano. It's located inside Hotel Poseidon and beware there are some steps you need to climb to get to it. It wasn't very busy for lunch and we got there at opening time and stuck around for a few hours. The view is absolutely stunning, service was impeccable and food very good. I also thought prices were reasonable for the view, the service, and of course location inside Hotel Poseidon. We ordered the Caprese salad to share, a glass of white wine each. I ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina which was I very much looked forward to since the disaster of eating in a touristy spot in Sorrento. My husband ordered some seafood pasta which was perfectly cooked and so good. The caprese salad was well balanced with fresh ingredients, my gnocchi I think is what it really is supposed to be like. The gnocchi was small but light and pillow nearly melt in your mouth with a unique sauce. We ended up taking a very leisurely long meal ending with another glass of wine and espresso. Words can't properly explain how grateful we are to have chosen Il Tridente restaurant and the Hotel Poseidon for our wedding lunch. This place is not only about thoughtful design, breathtaking views and highly rated Mediterranean food (which was basically our reason to chose it in the first place!), but mainly about PEOPLE. Our initial correspondence was very smooth and friendly with a very prompt response. We were presented a variable options to choose from in regards to the table settings and food. We had asked whether it would be possible to apply some of our regional traditions to the day, what was responded to with the biggest enthusiasm and genuine curiosity. We had quite a few requests that were outside of the offering and every single one of them got handled with the kindest manner. When it came to the day itself, it absolutely went beyond our biggest expectations. From the moment you walk in, to the very last second of your stay, you're surrounded by the most genuine and loveliest human beings. The team that had looked after us and our family and friends, made us feel the most special. Food and drink is absolutely divine, and the views are one of most spectacular on the coast. Place has got a beautiful combination of what you look for in Italian hospitality as well as a romantic and very cheerful ambience. If you're rich it's great but it's a huge tourist trap for the rich. Food is like what you'll get in America -- nothing authentic or special. This restaurant however is wonderful. We've been here previously at night for cocktails and they were amazing. This review was based on their lunch. The Caesar Salad was average and had a lack of flavor had to use the white wine vinegar on the table to help it. The spaghetti with clams would have been decent had it not been completely drenched in butter. I want to give it another try in the evening for the dinner menu, but for now I would say stick to cocktails. The service was above average and at nighttime Luca treated us very well with some amazing cocktails. Additionally there are a series of great tables with breathtaking views that are reasonably spaced out so you are not sitting on top of other tables.
