Great salon. I have been going there since 1991 believe it or not I get the greatest haircuts there. There are other haircutting shops around, if you are into the assembly line bit. I get my nails trimmed and they give terrific pedicures. It's so comfortable and a very friendly atmosphere. Other guys should give it a try. The nail service and pedicures are terrific. I was hesitant to go to a new salon half an hour before closing for a pedicure. My friend who lives in this neighborhood said, Let's check it out, they can always say no. The woman at the front said that would be fine. I wish they had said no, there's not enough time to do it well. When they were ready for us, we had to ask to sit next to each other. My friend was attended to quickly. My woman started on me 10 minutes before closing. I'm always polite, say short and round. And I am ticklish. I may laugh. Keep going it feels fine. The girl was rough with me. At one point she jabbed so hard under the toe nail I assumed I must be bleeding. A few moments later, she dropped a tool on the floor, rinsed it off under the sink and threw it in an alcohol vat for less then 20 seconds. I decided I was done at that point. I get it. It's the end of the day, you're tired. But if you aren't at your best, don't agree to take on walk ins. read more

I stopped into my usual place, All Bright nails (see my glowing review on their page), but they were too busy to take me so I decided to give this place a try. Big mistake! I posted pictures so give those a look. The technician repeatedly rolled over my cuticles with that filing drill thing (if you've ever gotten acrylics you know what I'm talking about). Ouch. My nails had been previously the shape I like them, and she filed them into pointy witch nails. I told her three times to make them look like my right thumb nail (that one had broken off so she had to follow the shape of my natural nail, which was short and round) but she either didn't understand or didn't care what I was asking. She was being so rough with the file on the skin around my nails that I eventually just gave up and stopped telling her to redo them and told myself I'll just go to my usual place tomorrow and have them fix it. So basically it was a waste of time and $25. Update: went to my normal place to have them fixed and it was a nightmare. They were so thick that she had to take them completely off and start over, and they were all stuck to my cuticle which made it painful to rip away from the skin. So it was even worse to fix than if I had never gone. read more

I had gone to Chez Bella once before and liked the simple acrylics that I got. However, when I went back for a more complicated design, which I showed ahead of time and was told would be ok, they did a terrible job. The simple line-work was extremely messy and very rushed. When I asked to tweak some parts that were done completely wrong, the nail tech got extremely irritated and hostile and started yelling at me because it was taking too long and she had another appointment after me. Mind you, she said she could do the design beforehand and I showed up 30 minutes EARLY for MY OWN appointment. It was late at night and I could no longer deal with someone who didn't want to do their own job so I left. I came back a few days later to get the design changed and if they couldn't redo it they could just take it off because the nails were done so badly I couldn't keep them on. I again got yelled at by ANOTHER nail tech who, when I explained my situation, told me I was "harassing her" and that "I was one of those people who will never be happy." It was just so shocking and disrespectful, and I am not someone who likes to raise they're voice at random people so I just had to leave. But if you want anything more than a singular color, DO NOT GO HERE! They cannot take a note of criticism and do not understand it is their job to listen to the customer. Very angry and hostile group. I walked right to Allston nails and got the whole thing redone for less than they asked for a refill. Just go to Allston nails down the street. read more

Waaaay back in the day when I was a youngin I came in here to get my hair cut. I was a kid, so I never really had any opinion on how my cut looked in the end. Now, I only come here to get my eyebrows waxed. I usually only go with Cindy, but sometimes another lady may do it because she it too busy with another customer. So instead of waiting 25 minutes, I take the other nice asain lady's offer. They almost always come out looking good. And for the price is always nice! Cindy's dog is cute too....and his name is (get this) WHISKEY! HA! One day Cindy was sitting behind the desk moaning "Whiskey...oh Whiskey......WHISKEY!"...my mom and I thought she was hung over. When asked about it, she perked right up and said, "Oh, that's my dogs name, I just miss him, thats all!!".......oh Cindy, you crack me up... fyi- if you decide to come here and you are looking for parking, absolutely do NOT park in the parking lot across the street. I made that mistake and after 15 minutes, I got towed!!!! There is this nasty salon in that area next to the Dunkin' Donuts that has beef with Chez Bella. They literali sit outside their door watching to see if anyone parks there and runs across to Cindys. Jerks. $116 dollars to get my car back damnit.. read more

Came here for a quick pedicure and the results corroborated with the price-- $20 for a regular pedicure. Because this salon offers a variety of services, they don't really have employees who quite SPECIALIZE in nails which could explain why the pedicures turned out to be..JUST okay. The service was fast and the lady doing my toes didn't bother with any chit chat and just got to work. My pedicure was done in about 15-20 minutes. A few things I didn't really enjoy about my pedicure is how rushed the pedicure felt--sure, these ladies have probably been doing it for years and can do my toes while asleep and I didn't expect to feel pampered and all that, but it just seemed like she was doing a sloppy job. I think the salon could probably be more sanitary. Their instruments were kind of just sitting out there and at one point the lady took the dirt underneath my toes and wiped it back on my feet (wtf?!). Okay, I know you're probably trying to have me rinse it off, but seriously, wipe that on the towel or something. Gross. Also, the "spa" chairs (if you could even call it that) were outdated. Overall, I didn't really enjoy my experience, but the lady did do a hell of a job of using that cheese grater to slough off the dead skin off the heels of my feet. However, i don't think I'll ever come back here for pedicure. I'll save my money to go somewhere else for a better experience. BUT I will say they do great eyebrows ($9). Ask for Cindy--she's the owner and she does a fairly good job with shaping/waxing eyebrows. But for any other service, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

I had an appointment at 7pm for a pedicure. Got there right at 7 and was put in a chair, but sat with my feet soaking for a good 20 minutes before I was attended to. Then the tech rushed through my pedicure. She cut my cuticle pretty deep on my first toe enough that it bled. She was a lot lighter on the rest. A 10 second per foot massage and then it was onto the polish. I gave 2 stars as it was only $20 and a 5 minute walk from my apartment, but the bleeding and lack of massage bummed me out. The polish was done well though and the girls around me getting a fill all had great looking nails. I would go back if I couldn't get to my normal place in Braintree or maybe on a week day when it was less busy. read more

It broke my heart to have to find a new nail salon when I moved out of Allston (...leaving Allston in-and-of-itself may have made up for it though.) The reason I gave not all five stars is because my experience happened over time and was not always great. This is only for eyebrow waxing: The first time I went to get my eyebrows waxed here was awesome! In fact, I did not even tell the woman what to do and I still came out looking great. The second time I went was horrible. The lady seemed inexperienced and messed up my eyebrows pretty bad. After that I did not return for over 1 year. The third time I went because I was desperate and my regular lady left Boston. This time was the BEST! Cindy is very experienced with waxing. She knows what she is doing and is very careful. I asked for a certain look and she delivered! I can't speak for the other services but the facial waxing is great. Just make sure you ask for Cindy! read more

I live around the corner and mostly just pop in to get my eyebrows done. That's literally all you need to do... pop in. It's very convenient. I've never had to wait more than 5 min or so. It's quick and cheap, and always a decent job. Only a couple times have my brows been a little bit thinner than I would have liked, but after reading the other reviews I see I should be asking for Cindy (I'm not sure who I've gotten before). I'm a nail-biter, so I've never had the mani (although my friend from nyc seemed pleased). Pedi was very nice though, no complaints there :-) All in all, this place is convenient (if you live close-by, that is... parking, I'd imagine, could be a pain), cheap, and does a good job... plus everyone is very friendly! read more

I love this nail salon! There is only 1 woman that does Acrylic nails, however, she does an excellent job! She is gentle and takes her time to ensure your nails are perfect. She even does a great job when your in a rush! My refill was $20 but I always tip her well because she deserves it! They even have a few mood changing colors, which is why I come here! Cindy and her sister do great work when it comes to eyebrow waxing. Not to thin natural. If I am in the area will stop by and wait no need for an appointment. I use to go there all the time when I lived in the area but since moving to Somerville it vaires from J's place to Chez Bella for the eyebrow shaping. That is all I have done. This is exactly what I was looking for. A $10 manicure. You get what you pay for. The girl who did my nails, Ruby, was very sweet and thorough. No frills, but a good manicure and the polish still looks great 3 days later. I even tried to get up quickly to leave (I wasn't in a rush but am just careless about drying time) and she was like "you really should wait another 5 mintues. the top is dry but the inside's probably not." and so i did, no smudges :) I'm really spoiled because my nail place at home does mani + pedi for 20$ and they do a greattt job, but this was comparable. ($10 mani/ $20 pedi) and you basically get what you pay for. which is the risk of some kinda gross infection cus their mani/pedi instruments look like they haven't been cleaned in forever. I have mixed feelings about Chez Bella Salon. The first time I went to this salon was because there is no other place in my area that does acrylic nails, and I didnt want to do them myself. When arriving I was introduced to a short chubby asian lady, I did not catch her name, and was told this would be the person that was going to do my nails. I have had my nails done hundreds of times, in fact I am a certified nail technician as well. When she began to do my nails I instantly noticed that she was doing them incorrectly so I payed close attention to what she was doing. She was even filing the nails while they where still wet which makes the nail feel granny like sand instead of smooth, but I did not stop her because sometimes the nail technician will do little tricks to fix the nails at the end and at least make them look somewhat descent. When she said my nails where done I was horrified! I went to the guy upfront to pay and I expressed to him that my nails where done incorrectly and looked horrible, my fingers where bleeding, the nails where granny, some nails had lots of acrylic on one side and the others had hardly any acrylic and he called the women out to fix them. I told him that what she did to my nails was not fixable, they needed to be removed and redone correctly but I did not want her to do them. I also told him that if she would have done a mediocre job I would have not said anything I would have just not come back but she screwed up my nails to a point that I couldnt just not say anything about it. So in the end I left there unhappy with chunks of acrylic all over my hands, not just on my nails. I then called back and told them I wanted my money back and that I was going to report them to BBB and he said that was fine, talk about customer service. Later on I received a call from the owner apologizing and offering for her best nail tech to take my nails off and redo them, so I said that was fine because in the end all i wanted was my nails done. The next day I went in and a woman named Ruby took the nails off and redid them correctly. In my opinion the owner and Ruby are very nice and they do care about making there customers happy which is what it should be about. When Ruby redid my nails I was very happy and satisfied but now I am not so sure she is so great. I have had my nails done with Ruby maybe 8 times and the last 3 times she has done them I feel as though she rushed doing them therefore my nails have come out messy. Now I am under the impression that the first time she did my nails she was under pressure because the owner of the salon was there therefore she did an amazing job, but since the owner wasnt there the last 3 times shes rushing when doing my nails. At this point I feel that this place isnt worth going to and even though the owner is nice and Ruby is to, the staff is what makes a good business and the staff at Chez Bella rude and could care less about their customers. If you are absolutely desperate to get your nails done because of some event or something I recommend going to get your nails done with Ruby, but if your looking for a salon that you can go to on a regular basis for your nails, and consistently does a great job do not go here, it is not worth the money plus the staff (excluding ruby and the owner) are rude and unprofessional. RESPONSE to message posted Thank you very much for responding on my post, by doing so when future customers go on yelp to see reviews about your salon they will see the way you talk back to customers that are just trying to express themselves about an unpleasant experience at your salon. Also I would like to state that you saying that I was looking for free service is absurd! I paid even when my nails where like that and I paid on every occasion after that occurred and have left a 10 dollar tip as well. When stating that the first time I was uninterested in fixing my nails was in my opinion a dumb comment considering you where not there and I told the gentleman at the front desk I couldn't fix them because I had to go to work and I was already late. Everything I said in my yelp review was true, even about my nails bleeding when I left, whether you would like to believe it or not. In fact when I was there 2 weeks ago a women came to Ruby looking for someone to fix her nails because they where bumpy and yellow when she had them done the day prior and the sides of her fingers where also bleeding (if you dont believe me ask your staff) even your own nail technician commented about having to fix other peoples mistakes on a regular basis. My experience at Chez Bella was, for the most part, disappointing. I went in on June 29, 2012 to get a manipedi, advertised on their website for $28. I don't normally get my nails done, but when I do, I usually go to a place on Newbury St. for $35. I figured I'd try Chez Bella because it's close to my apartment, and I thought it was $28 - turns out they raised their prices recently; it's now $33 for a manipedi, and it's cash only. The salon itself is pretty shabby; it's not unclean, but I don't get the impression that hygiene is a priority. The color selection could be broader, and most of the polishes are old and streaky. The only choice I had for a lavender color was a half-empty OPI that looked like it hadn't been used in months. The gentleman who did my pedicure, Tony, was very nice. I prefer male manicurists because I don't really like talking during my appointment. He did a good job of shaping my nails and massaging my legs, using several brushes. However, I noticed that the woman next to him used the same brush that she used on her client's feet to scrub the tub after the appointment. I hope that isn't standard practice. While I was getting my pedicure, a girl came over and asked if I wanted to do my manicure at the same time. Wanting to save time, I said yes. I felt bad that she had to stand next to me, but thinking back, I should have said no. She placed a towel on my lap and spilled the oils on me several times. She cut the nails on my right hand slanted, as she was standing on my left and I had to reach my arm across. She also didn't realize that I was bleeding at one point. Additionally, because there was no arm rest, I had to hold my arm up for her, which became tiring after a few minutes. All of the debris and cut nails subsequently fell onto the floor, onto the arm rest, and onto my lap. Not appealing. The old polish caused both the manicure and pedicure to look faded, and I already noticed bubbles and puckers on my fingernails before I went to the drying station. Having been there for an hour already, I didn't say anything (I should have. The drying station is tucked in a corner; it's hard to get to and very cramped, not to mention it's next to the hair salon part of the store, in which one of the hair stylists was yelling incessantly in Portuguese. Overall, I'm disappointed that I paid $41 (with tip included) - not a good experience, and I won't be going back. read more

I'm not really picky when it comes to cutting my hair, as I usually go for what's open, cheap, and convenient. Although this is a "salon," it appeared to be unisex and I took my chances after seeing it was under $20. It didn't really hurt that this place was within a 1 minute walk, but it might be a little difficult if you're driving and need to find a parking spot. Just a friend note, don't park in the parking lot across the street as there's a 40% chance you'd get towed. My only complaint would be that I think there was a slight language barrier between the "barber" and I, as he did something that I didn't want him to do. Then again, I probably said yes after he repeated himself for the third time. So I suppose that's my fault, but like I said...I'm not picky when it comes to getting a haircut. read more

Cindy is amazing at hair, eyebrows and making you smile. The only place I will go to get my eyebrows done and I'm always happy with the outcome as long as Cindy does them. My boyfriend loves getting his hair cut from Pablo and he is a very picky guy when it comes to who cuts his hair. I would highly recommend. However, my nails chipped within a day. So within 2 days I had to take all the nail polish off because it looked really bad. Worst eye brow experience of my life! I have never had someone wax my eye brows in the opposite direction of the root! I didn't think to stop them as I assumed they were professionals and know better than me but boy did I regret not speaking up by the next day! I was puffy and had scabs where the hair was removed! Newbury Street Quality at Neighborhood Salon Prices! I have had manicures and pedicures at more expensive, higher end salons, and the manicures and pedicures at Chez Bella are just as good if not better. The nail technicians really take the time to do an amazing job! I have also had my eyebrows shaped by Mondi, the 2012 Best of Boston winner who was at Michaud and is now at Isoci, and I love her, but Cindy, the owner of Chez Bella, does just as good a job at a fraction of the cost.
