Edit: Phil Salmon did compensate me approximately 2/3 of the total damages. However, he repeatedly denied that his shop was responsible for the transmission failure. A rather curious denial because when I called around at several other shops, they all told me that removing the transmission fill plug is a standard part of oil change procedure. I am still at a loss of almost $1000. I will not be a repeat customer at this shop, which is sad considering how conveniently close it is located to where I live. I brought my car in for a routine oil change at the end of May in preparation for a road trip that I was taking with my family in June. I thought I was taking care of my car by getting routine maintenance done. Little did I know that they would not replace an essential part which resulted in the manual transmission in the car failing less than a month later. We were driving down from the mountains when the car stopped shifting into second gear, and was extremely loud in idle and in third gear. Being only part way through vacation, I had the car towed to a shop in Olympia. This shop discovered that the manual transmission had failed due to the transmission fill plug missing and there was not enough fluid. This shop replaced the transmission, and told me that the only way for the fill plug to be out would be for someone to take it out manually with a wrench. It is not something that can just vibrate out. The mechanic at this shop also told me that manual transmissions in Hyundais simply do not fail! I called Salmon's Service Center, and spoke to the manager, who told me the owner is on vacation. He called back a little bit later, and denied all responsibility for the transmission failure. He even told me that my car doesn't have a fill plug, that it has a dip stick, and that the other shop is lying! I called the Olympia shop and they told me that indeed, that transmission has a fill plug and no dipstick. When I spoke to the manager again, he claimed that he was looking at the wrong diagram. I had to pay over $2300 for the transmission replacement, tow, and rental car. All this for a $50 oil change! read more

Our Honda Pilot was on the blink and my wife brought it to our nearby Salmon's as it was convenient. They pulled the error codes and determined it was a valve gasket leak messing with a cylinder firing which led to the traction system freaking out. The tech reset the system and said we could continue to drive it for the next couple days - until we decided when/where to get it fixed which was super nice to know we weren't causing unfixable damage while we were driving in the meantime. We ended up getting it fixed here after all. The tech was excellent. Explained everything to my wife and I and even offered to show her the dirty spark plug when they were all done. Fix ended up slightly more $ than expected based on what I gathered calling around to other shops for similar work. However, I didn't check around until after the job was completed and they were very up front about the estimated time to repair so that's on me. Also, estimates over the phone are estimates... often a job ends up more complicated once someone gets eyeballs on it which end up in higher bills anyway. This wasn't the cheapest fix I could find in the city perhaps, but they are close by, the service was superior and we've been driving now for a few months with no issues so I'll call that a win. Also - I've been by before with a screw in my tire and they've pulled it out for me and mentioned it didn't need a patch - no charge. Thank you. I'll definitely return for additional service work in the future. read more

Great job by Salmon's Service Center! My car was having issues upon start-up (car would shake and it didn't feel like the car fully started) and was getting terrible gas mileage (~15 mpg for a Mazda 3). One day my car stalled out and lost all power while driving, which triggered me to bring my car in to Salmon's Service Center on the Sunday before Labor Day. I thought it was an issue with the ignition switch but it turns out that it was a dirty Throttle Box. I didn't even realize there was a Throttle Box but the car is running great ever since Salmon's cleaned the Throttle box. No issues with start-up and I'm getting 25 mpg now. Thanks to Salmon for fixing my car issue! read more

Marty was such a huge help. We knew we had issues with our car and he identified the problem without trying to convince us it was more than it was (we had a previous quote to compare it to). Both my husband and I felt at ease and trusted him. It was especially helpful that he worked with us to pick our car up after vacation and pay when we got back. He also found a way to keep a part working and save us some money in the end. We have an old Subaru and know where we are taking it moving forward! read more

They looked pretty busy when I drove up but they still went above and beyond to help me with some bumper clips for some loose moldings on my car's undercarriage. Excellence service and a great asset to the community! read more

Thankful for Daryl! I had to fill up 2 propane tanks right before closing time and he was super helpful. My general experience with gas stations is that they are grumpy when it comes to propane, but it was quite the opposite experience at Salmons. I'll definitely be back! read more

I recently took my car into the Toyota service center to get a nail removed from my rear tire. The service center stated that they couldn't repair it and that I was going to need replace that tire. I decided that I should take it somewhere else and see what another shop would do/say. Salmon's not only removed the nail, but also informed me that it didn't puncture the tire and that I didn't need any repair work or replacement of my tire, saving me over $300. I really appreciated the honest service provided by this shop and will now look to always bring my car to them first for any types of issues or problems in the future, as well as recommend this shop to my friends. The workers are courteous, friendly, and seem to be very personable. The manager of the shop, I believe his name was Dan, personally helped me out and made sure I was happy with the service after it was all said and done. read more

Always honest about repairs. They don't try to sell you parts or work that you don't need. We also like that you talk directly with the mechanics, not some cheesy desk salesman. Wells and Kathryn read more

So far I have had several great experiences. I believe it is Phil who helped me out. The mechanics at Salmon's are both innovative and customer service oriented. I feel as if the mechanics there are extremely skilled and with such skill are able to work outside the box and give you several repair options. They are very straightforward and they are a mechanics shop that will actually take you in their shop under the bottom of your own car and explain any issues that are going on. I really trust these guys and they seem to be a mechanics shop for the realist. They don't mess around and really let you know what you need to do with your vehicle. read more

I'm a longtime customer and have always had good, effective service. I'm a mechanical dunce, so I rely on their experts and haven't been misled yet. I posted an earlier review complaining about a recent unhappy experience. Dan and I have talked, and that situation has been resolved. read more

Salmon services is the place to be for you car! They were able to get me in for same day service on my Wrangler. Jason was on top of communicating with me throughout the day, giving me the scoop on what was going on and what needed fixing. I appreciated him taking the time to explain the issues I didn't quite understand at first. Daryl at the check out was so personable and nice to talk to after a busy day. Overall 10/10 experience. Would recommend Salmon Service centers to everyone. read more

I'm not sure what their service is like because before I could get service I went through a very curt and impatient cashier who was little help. Lost business before I could give it. read more

This is the best kind of service center, where it's clean and the vibe is friendly, and you get to talk to the mechanic who is actually working on your car. I came here for the first time recently, bringing my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for much needed maintenance after it had been sitting unused in my driveway for almost a year. I knew it needed a new battery and oil change, but wasn't sure what else. Within a short period of time, Matt, the mechanic who was working on the car, called to say it also needed a new air filter and both front and back brakes should be replaced for safety, as the pads were worn down to 2mm. He mentioned they should be 12mm, and offered to send me photos. My previous mechanic, who retired a few months ago, was rarely that specific, and I did appreciate it. The work was done in a few hours, taking less time than I expected, and the cost was less than the estimate provided over the phone. Matt was great, I called to bug him with a couple of questions and he was absolutely nice. They vacuumed my car, and so it was cleaner when I picked it up than when I dropped it off. Dan, the cashier, was also pleasant and professional. I can't imagine how my experience could have been better. I'm thrilled to have found this gem of a service center, because I live within walking distance. My family will be bringing all our cars here in the future. FYI, I went to the Greenwood location. read more

I have been using Salmon's for years. I am on a first name basis with Marty who is my favorite technician and greets me and my son by name whenever we need his opinion on one of our Audi vehicles. Very honest, very thorough and the entire team has done a great job of only doing what is necessary rather than pushing my bill up! The difference in price and service compared to the local dealership is what brings me back to Salmon's. Marty is fantastic. read more

Cheap, fast, and patched my tire on a Sunday morning! Not many places are available then.

Don't take your car anywhere else ever again. Alex is a mechanic-wizard and literally just saved me thousands of dollars on unnecessary repairs quoted by another mechanic in the area. the best part is, this is not the first, second, or even third time they have saved me money and done an EXCELLENT job repairing my car, doing preventative maintenance, or explaining to me every issue (immediate or not) going on with my car and helping me put a timeline to repairing things. I have been taking my cars to them (somewhat inconsistently) since i got my first one 11 years ago, and i will drive far and wide to make sure i continue to take every single car i own to Salmon's. it's also worth noting that about a year ago i took my increasingly-impossible-to-fix Honda CR-V to Marty, who was able to quickly diagnose, repair, and VERY fairly charge me for an issue i had been battling for 2 years, and 5 other mechanics could not figure out. turns out ... the issue had been that before i owned it, a new timing belt had been wrongly installed at the DEALERSHIP. what?! anyway, take your car to salmon's, you'll be glad you did. They will no longer be saving me from badly-quoted or misrepresented repair lists, because i will not be wasting my time taking my car to any other mechanic. period. read more

I have been having my car serviced at this Salmon's Service Center for over 2 decades with Marty and Alex. As a senior citizen it is a great relief to know I can trust my mechanic. Most recently, the steering went out in my VW Jetta. Alex was able to identify the problem, order used parts to keep costs down and took it to VW to have my car reprogrammed. He called me to keep me updated on the status of the repairs and in the end, the cost was lower than expected. You gotta love these guys. I get all my gas at this station and feel like they are part of my community. I will never take my car anywhere else. read more

One of the few places open on a Sunday for tire repairs. Quick and cheap at $17.50. Martin rocks!

DISHONEST!! After replacing my broken upper radiator hose, I decided to replace the lower one as well and bought one online. But I didn't want coolant to spill into the street (toxic to pets) so decided to go to Jiffy Lube. Jiffy Lube said that although it was an easy repair, their insurance didn't cover maintenance work, so they were unable to do it. So I stumbled into Salmon's Service Center and asked how much it would run. The mechanic on duty said, "That's an hour's worth of work, ma'am. You're looking at $110." I thought he must be confused about which hose I meant, so I popped the hood and showed him. "It's messy in there," he said. Yeah, it's messy in there; it's a car engine. "It fastens here and here," I explained, wondering how this would take anyone with a pulse more than ten minutes to do. I finally told him that I would do it myself, that it would take FAR LESS THAN ONE HOUR, THANK YOU. Although this place is conveniently located for me, I will not be back. read more

Three reasons why I like Salmon's - 1) they're open on Sunday 2) they're organized and do what they say they're going to do 3) they work on Saabs. What more could you ask for. I called on Sunday morning to see whether they could look at the check engine light on my 98 Saab 900s which had appeared the day before. First of all, they're one of the only Seattle-area mechanics open on Sunday. Believe me, I looked. Second, when I got there Marty was ready for me with pen in hand - paperwork all filled out, all I had to do was add my name & phone and leave the key. Later that day I found out they had to order a part and would do the work the next morning, so Sherman (my Saab) stayed overnight. Marty estimated that they'd be finished between 9 and 10, and he called me back at 9:30 the next day to say it was done. The whole place is run very efficiently. Huge points in my book. Third - hey, I finally found a good mechanic to work on Sherman. Thanks Salmon's! read more

Just at the start of all of the virus insanity, I was at a trade show in Vancouver Canada. I had to drive the 1200 miles back to the center of California. On the trip back it seemed like something just was not right with my Chevy Traverse. Then about 10 miles North of Seattle I started having some issues and knew that I needed to do something. I got off of the highway and found a service station that recommended as it was a Saturday night that I check with Salmon's for service on the following week. I drove to the station on North 65th street and talked to the clerk (who btw has the coolest car) and he told me to get back as early as I could on Sunday morning to get set up with the mechanic for the following week. He helped me track down a hotel and a place to eat that was open and available. The hotel was perfect and close and the restaurant was great. I came in first thing in the morning and told the mechanic what was going on, told him that we were pretty much stranded 800 miles or more from home and just needed to make sure that we did not break down up in the mountains on the way home. Marty had me leave the car, he took it as his first one as everyone else was scheduled, the great night guy was just getting off shift and he drove me back to my hotel (in that really nice car) without blinking an eye. We got the call that afternoon that the car was ready, Marty explained everything that he did, told me that he thought it would be fine to drive home in it. Remember folks this was all on a Sunday for an out of town person. The charges were more than reasonable, we drove it all the way home and had no further issues. I cannot recommend this great place enough, truly great people with great service and ethics! My only regret is that I did not get to writing this review for a few months after getting back, I hope they realize how much I appreciate the service and understanding that they supplied to us at an incredibly stressful time for us and for them. There are not enough words to thank these excellent people for everything that they did! Thanks to all of you, keep up the good work! Mark Allen read more

Great service! Someone is always available to help even when they're working on many cars at once. I come in more often then not to get flat tires repaired! They always find the leak even when it's hiding on the inside of the tire! Great customer service, always friendly and great price! read more

My review is in regards to their service station at 1424 NE 125th St. I was having one of those days where everything was going wrong, and I mean everything, and as I hopped in my car to try and remedy the situation, my tire pressure warning light comes on. I'll be honest, I have no idea what to do with that. I pulled into the Chevron hoping someone would take pity on me and help me and the nicest man came out. He checked all of my tires, found the low pressure one, filled it for no charge, and wished me well for the rest of the day. What could have been the straw that broke the camel's back turned out to be an act of kindness by someone that kept me going. read more

The guys that work here are great. Flat tires, messed up hoses...they've helped me fix several car problems over the years and they've always been friendly and prompt. I'm usually a little leery about corner repair-shops, but this one is great. read more

This place looks like the local corner gas station, convenience store and garage - and it is UNLESS you go get a flat fixed... I've lived two blocks away for the past year and was waiting for something to go wrong with my Jetta to try it. I felt like I was getting ripped off by the dealership, and it was in Ballard. They got me in a day later, and had the car done by 3pm or so. They have reasonable labor prices, and they we're right on with thier estimates. They seem to know their stuff about VW's and other germans - the lot is always full of VW's BMW's etc... Overall I was very happy to give them my money, and thought I got great service. I will definetly be bringing my car her for any future work I need on it. Would have been 5 stars If I'd had more experience with them - and previously they charged me $23 to fix a flat tire? Go to Discount Tire at Northgate for your tires - but here for your VW service. read more

No bueno ! We had our car towed here for a quick look at -- they said it needed a new engine! Really? We towed it to another shop -- just needed a timing belt! They kept pushing for us to bring them the "title" to the car and they would get rid of it -- What? That's wierd first of all and second -- how stupid do you think we are to not get a second opinion? They told us this over the phone, guess it was hard to keep a straight face in person! Good thing we have smart sons that said don't believe them! They will hear about this in person too ! I've been here 2 times for service on my Chevy Malibu. Both times they explained what was wrong in terms I could understand and tried to find the least expensive solution for the problem. I took my car in recently in the late morning and all the work was done before 5pm. It's right on the bus line, which makes dropping off the car and then heading to work much easier. Because the gas station is attached you can also pick up your car and pay later than the mechanics work, which means no having to take time off work. Great service!! read more

I used to buy gas from them almost exclusively but after they got their new gas pumps a little more than a year ago, their gas is sometimes a bit expensive. However, I still use them for tire work. Their workmanship is good as far as balancing the tires right and putting them on right. This may seem simple but I've seen some other places install wheels and tires using bad habits. read more

They continue to be dependable, quick, and not too expensive! I've had a slow leak in one of my tires for a while.. finally got around to getting it fixed.
