This restaurant is very loud and seems to be dirty everywhere. The service is the worst!!! You have to get out of your chair and get a staff member to help you. And they hear the first sentence you say and then they run off without letting you finish your order and requests. It is so very chaotic in the dining room... they need management and staff organization and training. One waiter passed by and spilled boiling water on one of our guests.... waiter did not stop or apologize. I used to come here when it was China Village and came in hoping for dim sum but they stop serving it by 2pm so we ordered the cumin lamb and a mixed seafood w/hot sauce in clay pot instead. Both were just ok for me. The clay pot was very mild and I was hoping for a stronger flavor from the cumin lamb as I've had at other Chinese restaurants. Service was also ok, and was kind of expected. We were served roasted/salted peanuts and tea right away. After that, you don't have a dedicated server, and you just need to flag anyone down. There are plenty of tables and it's good for large parties but it can get noisy. I'll have to come back during dim sum hours but probably won't be back otherwise. read more

Tried on multiple occasions. Employees are unfriendly, food is mediocre at best. The outside of the building is as drab and dreary as the inside, with the coldness and lack of professionalism from the counter staff to match. As we finally get our food delivered after 45 minutes, we get to spend the rest of our meal listening to 2 employees behind us slurp and smack their mouths while they ate dinner, shouting agressively to each other loud enough to hear from the Train Station nearby. Don't get duck thigh if you are ordering bbq combo platter. I got bbq combo platter with Roast duck, pork and duck thigh. Normally with 3 meat combo the meat would've been several pieces each type, but the duck thigh is just one single duck thigh similar to the size of 2 piece of regular duck meat, and it's extra $1.5. It looks very sad. Doesn't count as one meat at all. Also I got Egg Plant and Fish with Garlic sauce in clay pot and the dish I got had nothing to do with fish. It was just a plate of egg plant. When I called to confirm the dish, it's also very hard to communicate with the person. It seems like the only language they speak is Cantonese. I have been eating Chinese food as a Chinese American, esp noodles, for decades on the Bay Area and the dishes have to be among the worse or possibly the worst! Second visit after I realized that they were taken over by someone else. I brought my senior friend in for a birthday lunch. Made sure there was no shrimp as she is allergic. Had to ask for a manager, no one speaks English. (Which were used to these days when we go out. That's not a problem.) Someone different brought each entrée. We were waiting a few minutes to get our check and get packed up to go. I asked for some help and the waitress did not send anyone or help us for that matter. I had to get up and get my own boxes twice, get my own bags to pack it to go. And then of course, walked myself up to get my own check. Paid the check and then went to the restroom. As my friend and I are in actually using the restroom, a waitress walked in. I have no idea what she was saying the first five words and then I heard 'no tip'. I of course I explained that no one helped us do anything while we were having lunch. I've been coming here for 40 years and that has never happened to me before. This review is for dinner and not dim sum. Avoid at all cost. Not sure how this location can be so different from Bel-Mateo. Short staff on a Tuesday and the food was awe full. How does a Cantonese style restaurant mess up on salt and pepper pork chops. This is a canto staple. It was as thin as a piece of paper and dry. They used old pork that has become beef jerky. Sesame chicken was a disgrace. It basically sweet and sour chicken which is just disgusting. Please close for dinner if you can get your act together. The smallest plates for $5.99 and majority of the orders are starting from medium. Definitely adds up. But then again, it's in Belmont. The custard buns are the best in town and so are chicken feet! Friendly but super busy waiters. A typical neighborhood Chinese dim sum restaurant that is pricier than others. Parking lot was bigger but the food was merely OK. Service was low to medium in terms of quality. Food was acceptable, and the ambiance can improve but was acceptable. This place needs an infusion of young wait staff who knows how to smile while wearing a KN95 mask, and serving plates of food. Super underwhelmed by Cheung Hing. We came at 12:15pm on a Wednesday and waited about 30 minutes for our table. This would have been fine, but when we were finally seated, we saw that the restaurant was easily 1/3 empty. Since we had time to look at the menu while waiting, we placed our order immediately upon sitting down. Still, it took 10 minutes (and following up) for us to receive our tea and almost 30 minutes for the first plate to be served. After that, it took another 20 minutes for the food to come out (and in complete disorder, aka our dessert arrived well before the rest of the meal). Food itself was very mediocre. Dumpling wrappers were thick, our noodles were soggy and flavorless, and everything was lacking. As for service, I'm not one to complain about service, particularly at local Asian establishments, but this was really bad. We had to aggressively flag multiple waiters down just to get some soy sauce and chili oil. Several staff members clearly heard us but chose to ignore us and keep walking. We also has several incorrect dishes placed on our table and then taken back. The restaurant itself is pretty old, and the tables, chairs, and carpet all reflect this. Unfortunately can't recommend them, especially given many other, better dim sum places in the Bay. read more

Good value and taste. We arrived around 11:30am on Sunday and it was pretty busy. We ended up sitting in the back room (away from the main area). Service was nice and attentive on the day we were here. We marked numerous plates on the menu to order and they came out promptly about 10-15 minutes later. I recommend getting the rice noodles with XO sauce and shrimp rice noodles if you are fans of rice noodles. The baked bbq pork buns and Portuguese egg tarts are also winners here. Bland. We ordered 1. Wonton Soup, 2. Salt and Pepper Prawn, 3. Salt and Pepper Squid, 4. Bitter melon beef, 5. Orange Chicken, 6. Garlic Eggplant, 7. Malaysian-style Chowfun This was for take-out, on a Sunday, at 5:25PM 1. Wonton Soup: This was the absolute WORST wonton soup I have ever had in my life. Clearly, whoever was cooking added water to make the soup broth go further. The only time I've had watery soup was when I was cooking for myself on a college student budget. The wontons themselves were okay. The bokchoy wasn't even cut I had to separate the leaves with scissors at home. Which is fine, but really? It just shows there was no care put into preparing the food. 2. Salt and Pepper Prawn: Um. Bland? It was just so disappointing because I just had salt and pepper prawn at a different Chinese place last week that was DELICIOUS. If I added salt it was passable. 3. Salt and Pepper Squid: This dish is obviously deep fried so I kept munching on it. Yes, it was bland, but sometimes I got lucky and had a flavorful piece. I liked that there was some spicy pepper so I was more OK with the dish being bland. We ordered take-out and they did cut a ventilation hole in the take-out box so it was sort of crunchy, but not the best. I don't like the batter mix as much as other places, because sometimes I would get a bite full of mushy stuff. 4. Bitter melon beef: Alright. I ordered this just to antagonize my husband. But this ended up being the best dish of the night. The bitter melon soaked up the flavors of the dish, and this time it wasn't bland. 5. Orange Chicken: Panda Express makes better orange chicken. At least I could taste the orange in this dish. However, the chicken pieces were soggy and it made for an unpleasant texture experience. There was more flavor in this dish compared to the eggplant and chowfun, but again, the sauce was super watery. Maybe if I didn't have the wonton soup I would have said, "Maybe it's supposed to be like this". 6. Garlic Eggplant: It was O.K. It was bland too. The garlic flavor was minimal. So disappointing. They should just call this Onion Eggplant. 7. Malaysian-style Chofun: I LOVE the wide flat noodles. I was hoping this was going to be amazing. It wasn't. Very tumericy and bland. Again. In summary: I'm convinced the kitchen is functioning on a low budget at the moment. And if that's what they want to do, fine. But I ain't coming back. If I add salt to my food, it is passable. The flavors however aren't amazing. The food is edible and the portion size is good. If you're on a budget or maybe you have hypertension and you need a low-sodium diet, then this might be the place for you! The food is oily though - so maybe not the healthiest option. I'm giving this place 3 stars, which is what I would rate an average Panda Express. EDIT: I just saw someone else's wonton soup from last month. Rating for here is more like a 3.5 to be accurate. This is only for the experience eating here for dinner as I haven't tried this Cheung Hing for dim sum yet. It is odd that there are two Cheung Hings so close to each other as there is another in San Mateo, but this specific location specializes in seafood and dim sum. Service is outstanding, but the food was hit or miss. We ordered Soy Sauce Prawns, Peking Spareribs, String Beans & Eggplant with Garlic, Yang Zhou fried rice, Custard Layered Cake, and their soup of the day which was a type of chicken and fungus soup. I will say that the Peking Sparerib was my least favorite item and it looked nothing like the pictures on the menu. I felt like I got catfished. Regardless, the flavor was overwhelmingly sweet like it was a dessert and there were no garnishes like the menu pictures showed while having a completely different color. It was tender at least, but the lack of savory flavors and sweetness was disappointing. Everything else tasted solid though and I enjoyed the eggplant with green beans and garlic the most. It complimented the Yang Zhou fried rice very well. Soy sauce prawns were good. I'm just too lazy to peel the shells. Custard layered cake was insanely sweet and wouldn't get again personally. Our server was nice and gave complimentary almond jelly which tasted refreshing and I enjoyed. Overall I think this Cheung Hing wasn't my favorite experience dinner wise, but I might have a better experience with their dim sum. I had dim sum lunch here few weeks ago from the recommendation of my realtor. Belmont is not in my neck of the woods, so I took her suggestion and was not disappointed. It's not a fancy restaurant, but also not a hole in the wall. The main dining area is fairly spacious, very bright with lots of seating area and comfortable. The dishes offered are traditional dim sum we all love. All we ordered and ate were delicious and flavorful! I should have taken pictures, but slipped my mind since I was talking and eating. Having loved the other Cheung Hings in the Bay, I decided to give this one a try since I was in the area. The entrance kind of reminded me of some episodes of Kitchen Nightmares where it just didn't look like the entrance to a restaurant as it was dirty and felt like it was used partly as storage. No worries I thought, that's how some Chinese restaurants are. Well, in true tradition, I was more or less ignored for a couple minutes as I was getting takeout. The food then took forever to come out, or so I thought. Apparently it was done and the employees just sort of left it on a table, so by the time I got the food and brought it home, it was lukewarm.
