Stopped for a morning sweet. Ended up with the cherry danish which was huge. The icing was super sweet - I took a bite of fruit and icing together which made the best combination. Everyone coming in ordered their donuts which looked amazing. This place has been around since 1963 so they must be doing something right. It gives off the feel of an old time bakery. I was in search of a local bakery near work and found a few, but none were open early enough to help me on my quest for donuts @ 6 am for work. So, I decided to pop in Chester's and see what they had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised to see an array of donuts that looked really good in the display cases. It was hard for me to choose some of the options bc there were plenty. I asked for 2 dozen and the kind young lady who greeted me held my hand as she walked me through the options. There were Boston Cream, Chocolate Glazed, Regular Glazed, Chocolate Frosted Cinnamon Bun, Apple Filled, Jelly Filled, Vanilla with Sprinkles, Chocolate with Sprinkles, Cinnamon, etc. I tried to get as many as I could. The young lady rang me up and taped the boxes. I paid $50 and left a tip. She was happy and so was I. Off to work I went with my donuts. When I arrived, people almost ran me over to grab donuts from the boxes. Everyone was happy with the choices. This is a spot that locals enjoy. It's this small, non pretentious spot and feels very homey as if the donuts were made fresh by a grandma. I honestly found the donut tastes to be ok - more like 3 stars but the service was honestly phenomenal because they were just so friendly and helpful trying to figure out what you like and there were high school aged kids working the counter which thoroughly surprised me. It was also towards the end of the day so I want to give this spot a try again during the morning. I heard other treats are very good here - I'll try this again next time I'm in town. read more

I've been a customer of C P P for longer than I can remember. My goto special treat was always the cream filled donuts, they never disappointed until now. Not only do they seem more oily but the cream filling is lacking. Hopefully this was an off batch, I'll give them another try. Tonight on a phone call with my 84-year old mother we were discussing local pastries around my place where I live. She mentioned stopping at Chester's two weeks ago to purchase day-old goods at a discount. She loves a bargain, so day-old works for her. Growing up in OC, we were somewhat regular customers throughout the years. When mom asked the older woman behind the counter if there was any day-old goods that day she said she received a terse, dismissive reply from the woman, who seemed perturbed she had even been asked. I can say this is a situation where I am glad for everyone I wasn't present. How dare this woman disrespect a Senior, especially my mother. After reading through the reviews below I see two other reviews mentioning a rude, older woman who ruined their experience. I would imagine this would be the same older woman since she seemed (according to mom) to be in charge of the younger workers at the counter. Is this woman the owner? Chester's has been historically great. However, the past few times I have been there, I found the donuts lacking. I love jelly donuts but the jelly was very watery and leaked out all over. The glazed donuts were mushy and smashed in the box. The texture was different. Frankly all the donuts seemed lacking. Prices are increasing and quality is decreasing. Very bad Blueberry pie, too sweet and tasteless at the same time. The one I got at shoprite was cheaper and better. I do not like to leave negative reviews but it is justified at this point. Also the convenience fee for using credit or debit cards is another negative. Don't offer as a payment method if you have to pass the charges back to the customer. Sorry but this is an honest review. I am so upset, I am down in Margate for July. I needed a really pretty birthday cake for a special friend. I called this bakery based on a freinds recommendation. I called and told the woman exactly whatI wanted based off their instagram. There was an EXACT picture. I just picked up the cake and it's awful!!! It doesn't look like the picture at all!!!! Come for the cannoli! What an unexpected little gem. The building it self is, shall we say "unassuming". But I didn't come for the ambiance, I came for the pastry. I called ahead to check and see if they had cannoli, and she let me know she would make me some fresh ones when I got there, and they were beautiful, and delicious. The gal had just pulled fresh sugar cookies out of the oven and my 3 year old was thrilled. The prices were great too. The big cannolis were around $2.50 each. It was raining, and as tourists, I was grateful there were tables inside the shop we could eat at- it sure beat trying to contain messy cannoli in our rental car. I'd give them zero stars if it were an option. My wife and I ordered 5 dozen cinnamon buns for my mother and her friends(all house bound during the pandemic as a valentine's Day treat from us). We ordered on February 5. The owner said shipping was going to be $60.00 for Fedex overnight, since she would only ship them that way to maintain freshness of the product. When my wife called up to get tracking info on February 9th, the owner the owner said she never promised to use Fedex and had shipped them via U.S.P.S. $60 for USPS shipping is ridiculous. She basically called my wife a liar. The tracking info states today, February 13th that they are still somewhere in transit. With no idea of where they were. So much for freshness, so much for honest business dealings The owner is dishonest and a liar. Be cautious and ask lots of questions from this unscrupulous business person.
